Jorinda and Joringel

Rate this book
Once upon a time, deep in the middle of a forest, stood an old castle. An ancient witch lived in the castle, and she had powerful magic. She cast a spell on any young man who came within one hundred steps of the castle—freezing him to the spot so he could not move or speak until the witch set him free. If a young girl wandered too near the castle walls, the witch turned her into a bird, and locked her in a cage inside the castle. But true love triumphs over evil enchantment in this story of one young couple, the beautiful Jorinda and Jorindel, the shepherd boy who loves her.

I am giving Jorinda and Jorindel five out of five stars.

Genre

Jorinda and Jorindel is a classic children’s faerie tale from the Brothers Grimm.

About the Book

This is a story about a young girl being stolen away, and her lover’s adventure to get her back.

Why did I choose this book to read?

I have an app on my phone with all the Brothers Grimm stories on it and it was 1am, and I couldn’t sleep. Coming along this app made me remember how much I had wanted to read the Brothers Grimm stories and to finally catch up on them like I have been trying for years, and I finally decided to start reading them.

Pricing

Unknown. Read on a free app from the Apple Store.

What did I think of it?

I think this was really sweet. I normally hate romantic children’s books; in my opinion, there’s too much emphasis on romance these days – but I really enjoyed this. It was adorably cute, and it really showed just how much people

Did I have any qualms with it?

I found no qualms in this story that stuck out to me.

Would I recommend it and who to?

I’d recommend this to anyone who enjoys classics, children’s stories, and definitely as a story for parents to read to their children.

Overall opinion

I think this was a really good story. It was very sweet, romantic, but not overly, and it showed how well love comes over hate. I thoroughly enjoyed this one and read it twice, and I would definitely recommend this one and I would definitely read it again.

Though the two are foolish not to realise that they are near a giant castle this story was interesting and it is always the same in that the heros of the story always seem to find theb precise tools that they need to complete the task and that in the end they will always get they want if the try hard enough for it and conquer their fears.

JORINDA AND JORINDEL: Jorinda and Jorindel is story about a shape-changing fairy that likes her privacy and takes the two betrothed lovers Jorinda and Jorindel captive for crossing into her territory. Jorinda is changed into a bird and Jorindel is eventually released and must find a way to save his beloved betrothed. This was cute story but not at all the best. It was suitable for children though not too exciting. MORAL: True love waits. True love overcomes. Do not trespass. Good conquers evil. Everything will work itself out. [RATING: 2.5 STAR]

*The version I read actually uses the spelling Jorindel for the male character, so I used that spelling version for this review.

I'm not sure I got the moral from this story, first because I didn't understand why did the fairy put the maidens in cages, and after Jorindel set them free what happened to her?

Jacob Grimm, alongside his brother Wilhelm, is renowned for compiling "Grimm's Fairy Tales," a collection of German folktales. This book is a captivating journey into the heart of folklore, presenting a mixture of enchanting and sometimes dark stories that have fascinated readers for generations. Grimm's work is not just a mere collection of tales; it's a profound exploration of the human condition, morals, and the cultural heritage of Germany. Each story is a masterpiece of fantasy, imbued with timeless themes and moral lessons, making this book a valuable treasure for both young and adult readers. Jacob Grimm's contribution through this compilation has left an indelible mark on literature and continues to inspire the imagination of readers worldwide.

I loved this fairy tale a lot. It was so heart wrenching and at the same time it had just the right touchy of whimsy and fantasy in it too.

I loved how Joringel saved Jorinda and he managed to rescue all of the other maidens as well.

I highly recommend for everyone to include this rare fairy tale in their reading list!
