This second action-packed middle grade novel features Maisie Lockwood on all-new adventures along with everyone’s favorite dinosaurs from Jurassic World Dominion!
This second original hardcover novel tells the all-new adventures of Maisie Lockwood as she navigates a world filled with dinosaurs both ferocious and friendly.
When Maisie, Owen, and Claire track Blue to Yosemite, they find her tracker in the park, but the dinosaur is nowhere to be found. Owen and Claire decide they should stay for until they locate Blue, and that means Maisie has to go on her most exciting adventure yet—school! She’s nervous, but quickly makes new friends but also discovers there are six dinosaurs that need their protection. Unfortunately, there’s also a predator hunting in the area. Is it Blue, or is there a more dangerous carnivore on the loose? Maisie will need all of her skills and bravery to save her new friends and the Yosemite Six.

Born in a mountain cabin to a punk rocker mother, Tess Sharpe grew up in rural California. She lives deep in the backwoods with a pack of dogs and a growing cabal of slightly feral cats.
I absolutely love the jurassic park/world franchise and any book I find is a bonus (always open for more recommendations in this area) I just can't get enough! These are such fun afternoon reads and engaging for all ages with the right amount of dinosaurs, humour and danger. The dinosaurs are loose and the battle between hunter and hunted goes on, but Maisie, Owen, and Claire are fighting to save the dinosaurs from each other, and from poachers. For the first time in her life, Maisie must attend school but she gets plenty of undercover dino info and a few surprises along the way. Blue is such a loveable character and the series wouldn't be the same without these guys, this was in my opinion even more enjoyable than book one and I can't wait for the next!.
Every bit as precious as the first volume, if not more so. Here are a bunch of things I loved (possible mild spoilers ahead):
* It takes 4 pages before Owen presses a kiss to Claire's knuckles "as if he were a knight in a fairytale," making Maisie (and me) giggle with delight.
* They have so many handholds actually
* Family hiking & camping trip!
* Sometimes on horseback!!
* Claire running into the daughter of someone she worked with on Isla Nublar, and identifying herself via code phrase as part of the underground dino lib movement, thus making friends with the local park rangers instead of getting arrested for trespassing in the restricted section
* Maisie enrolls in school! Unrealistic? Yes. But cute. Also, her new friend Fallon is instantly more likeable and vibrant as a character than the kids she met last time.
* There's an Ankylosaurus who is very dumb and cuddles with boulders because she thinks they're dinosaurs. I love her. She is named Smash because she likes to smash things with her club of a tail and is so so cute about it.
* Claire and Owen talking about putting down roots for Maisie's sake, on more than one occasion, because they can't be continually moving AND off the grid ("We could build a home somewhere, you know," Owen said. "You and Maisie and Blue and me. It just needs to be remote enough." / "Are you thinking of that cabin of yours?" / "It crossed my mind." )
* Peak favorite: Claire & Owen set off on horseback toward the title group of dinos shortly before a snowstorm. The conversation alone makes me happy. Then peril ensues, first when the horses run off and seemingly strand them, and again when it turns out they may be in the sights of a non-Blue carnivore. Hands are clasped, fear enters voices, mild but blood-drawing injury ensues, I make the little beaming-with-a-blushing-smile emoji face throughout. 😊😊😊
So, I know that I'm not the target audience for this book, but still I read it cause I'm both a huge dino-nerd, and a huge Jurassic Park nerd. This book is a prequel to Dominion, and from what I gather it tells how they finally managed to locate Blue in the Sierra Nevada mountains. But, it is also close to where it tells how Owen, Claire, and Maisie managed to build a cabin for themselves. Which I'm guessing won't be until the next book. I highly recommend this book to any Jurassic Park fans.
Thank you Penguin Random House Audio for the free audiobook. Wondering how Maisie, Claire, and Owen wrangled Blue and landed on that snowy ranch? Tess Sharpe's middle grade novels fill in the gap between Fallen Kingdom and Dominion, with the chipper clone exuding strong dinosaur girl energy. Narrator Rachel Jacobs strikes the perfect note of excitement with just a little trepidation.
I found this book underwhelming. I know I'm an adult and it's a middle grade book (I bought it for my grandson), but I've found other middle grade books quite excellent. Perhaps I was jaded early on when the book talked about the effort to reintroduce wolves to Yosemite. In fact, that was Yellowstone, not Yosemite. There are no wolves in Yosemite.
Who was your favorite character: Owen Because he saved the people from the allosaurus!
What surprised you: when Maise did not die when the allosaurus tried to attack
Would you change the ending: No because at the end the allosaurus attack and there was tons of action and my heart accually got suprised reading the end.
Such a fun series! The second book seemed a little rushed compared to the first- but the kids and I are really enjoying this series following Owen, Claire, and Maisie that takes place between the Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World Dominion movies.
*3.5 stars* (but again i am not target audience so boosted to 4) i read the last 100 pages in one go, it really picked up in the second half. the clawen crumbs are everything <3 maisie is such a badass go off queen
It really bugs me that no one acknowledges that Maisie has an English accent. Especially since they’re trying to pass her off as the daughter of Owen and Claire, two Americans.
