Impulse at library because Pilkey. Omg, just precious. Perfect early reader. I love the concept, execution, design... and especially the body language of the person. She's a saint.
Highly recommended to anyone who has or wants a dog, or, for that matter, doesn't but wants to know why so many others do.

I didn't love this story. You could see the exhaustion of the dogs' owner throughout the book (and it ends with her clothing still dirty while she lays on the recliner and the dogs are all clean and ready for another walk). I feel bad for the dog owner in this story and thought that the big dog had pretty gross behavior (I have never seen a dog eat mud before).

Big Dog and Little Dog go on a walk with their owner and do dog like things. I enjoyed how the writer kept the story about the dogs while there was some interaction with the owner. Interesting activities for young children to do at the end of the book. I give it a 4 out of 5 because of the included activities.

Liked this book, especially playing it out with her own big dog and little dog stuffies. Wanted to read again and again. Will definitely check out more from this series. Didn't know Pilkey did board books!

Don't miss the Canine Comedy in the back of the book! Here's a good joke: What do you say when your dog does something great? Pawsome!

I got a copy of this for a baby shower - and LOVED it! I think I gave my kids copy to my sister, but I need to buy one for my brother's daughter.

L (6) really enjoys this book because she can read it almost entirely on her own, and because she loves dogs. It's such a simple early reader, but I gotta say, I really love Big Dog. What a goof!

Another great one from this series. Could so identify with the exhausted dog Mama at the end.

September 24, 2024I loved how simple and repetitive the text is. It's also a cute story, if ending a bit abruptly.

Read this story on my grand Dav Pilkey book quest after falling in love with Dog Man.
Dav Pilkey’s Big Dog And Little Dog Going for a Walk is the second installment of the Big Dog and Little Dog book series and is just as cute and simple as the first. Best suited for children under the age of five. It tells the story of two dogs, one big and one small, enjoying a walk in their own unique ways. Sweet, short, and enjoyable.

I really, really enjoyed meeting Big Dog and Little Dog in the first book in the series. So I was excited to see there are many books in this series including the title I'm reviewing today: Big Dog and Little Dog Going for A Walk.
In this early reader, Big Dog and Little Dog go for a walk with their owner. They leave the house nice and clean, but, will they return home that way?! Probably not since Big Dog and Little Dog like mud. Can you guess the FIRST thing they want to do once their owner gives them a bath?!
I enjoyed this one very much. Perhaps even more than the first book in the series. I loved it because it was funny and charming and simple. The storytelling was great, in my opinion. Simple does not mean boring.
I love the text. I love the illustrations. This one is oh-so-easy to recommend.
Like the first book, this one has end-of-the-book activities.

This book is incredibly simple -- Big Dog and Little Dog go out for a walk, during which time they get covered with mud. They come home for a bath, and as soon as they are clean and dry and their human friend gets to sit down (still mud-splattered from their antics) and put up her feet, they're ready for another walk. The illustrations have a lovely fuzzy edge, and we don't see very much of the human's expressions, but just enough to know exactly how she's feeling about her lovely messy dogs.

The big dog, little dog series are wonderful for my rising first grader. She can read them on her own and feel like a "big girl."

I would recommend this book and any book from the series to anyone learning to read. The illustrations are really cute - having a puppy, I can totally relate to the woman walking these dogs.
