Giuseppe Dell'Anno won hearts the world over when he was crowned winner of the Great British Baking Show in 2021. In Giuseppe's Italian Bakes, his first cookbook, Giuseppe shares his skill, knowledge and love of baking through over 60 new sweet and savory recipes.
Growing up in Italy and learning to cook at the side of his beloved chef-father, Giuseppe has mastered everything from focaccia to florentines, each with his own signature twist on the classics of Italian baking.
Through his step-by-step recipes, Giuseppe guides you through making focaccia, pannacotta, tiramisù, rum baba, piadine, Sicilian cannoli and, of course, pizza, among many other delectable treats. With gorgeous color photos throughout and tips and tricks from the master of the technical challenge, bring a taste of the Italian bakery to your home with Giuseppe's Italian Bakes.
The only bake that I had heard of in this book was tiramisu, lol. I like that it had so many new-to-me recipes. This is full of unique ideas that I am sure bakers will enjoy making.
What a treat to read such a lovely cookbook! If you enjoyed getting to know Giuseppe in the 2022 season of the Great British Bake Off, then you're going to want to give this one a try. Giuseppe writes a gorgeous personal introducion, as well as including a paragraph or two about each and every bake.
To be completely honest, there are very few of these recipes that I would actually bake myself. Luckily for me I live in New York and have several marvelous Italian bakeries near my home... but if your corner bakery doesn't make lush baba au rhum or savory focaccia, you should definitely add this one to your collection.
I also think it was super clever how Giuseppe adds QR codes after some of the more challenging procedures so you can scan and watch him do it in person.
Excellent instructions, bright and beautiful photography mixes well with Giuseppe’s personal Tone and Style in this baking cookbook. Good index, preface, and equipment and ingredient information. Not for the beginner baker but someone wanting a challenge. Many of the ingredients are European and exotic to the average American baker but I did make note of a few recipes for when I feel brave and want something deliciously Italian.
I have made a lot of recipes out of this book, and I loved every single one. Every single one is a showstopper, and I’ve recieved compliments on every one.
I think my Italian grandparents are very proud of me :)
I've copied a few recipes for the times when I really want to bake. Bake when there are multiple steps and lots of waiting, and even lamination (with yeast dough! Who knew?). Maybe this isn't anything new, but there are qr codes that take you to videos demonstrating the process and giving you a chance to enjoy Giuseppes lilting Italian-accented English.
4.5- Giuseppe was one of my favorites on the GBBS. His cookbook is an interesting blend of baking jargon and Italian history/culture in a conversational way. Not many photos. Each recipe begins with a brief description of the bake and why it's in the book (the book focuses on traditional Italian bakes). The top of the recipe notes if it's nut-free, dairy-free, vegan, etc. and there's a section at the end that shares ideas of how to tweak the recipe to be sweeter, savory, alcoholic, more ____ friendly, have a more modern twist, alternative way to bake it... Also, the more complex recipes have QR codes to videos of Giuseppe actually doing the technique.
Although I have not officially read this book, (it comes out in October, already pre-ordered!!!) I’ve absolutely LOVED Giuseppe’s recipes from the Bake Off website and I have full faith this cookbook will be absolutely incredible. So excited
4.5 Giuseppe's excitement for baking is evident in this terrific cookbook that includes many recipes typically not seen in baking books. I can't wait to make Tarallini, something I love yet I have never seen a recipe for it.
Amazing recipes that cook up well and, I really enjoy how Giuseppe comes across on the page. Minor quibble is the formatting, I find the splitting of the ingredients and method with a chunk of description in bold jarring.
Enticing read, even if I’ll never make one thing. Giuseppe too is easy on the eyes and I was charmed by his endearing turn on GBB. Makes me want to travel to Italy!
Detailed and clear, and as authentic as regional Italian cuisine can get. A really varied selection of recipes, some of which could be considered more advanced, though most of them are for bakers of intermediate level. Both Giuseppe's personality and his expertise shine through his writing.
I am a big fan of the Great British Baking Show and after seeing Giuseppe win in 2021 I couldn't wait for him to come out with a cookbook. Giuseppe's Italian Bakes has a wonderful selection of different types of Italian classic bakes, from mouth watering desserts to pizza. I already have multiple recipes bookmarked to try! Definitely a must read if you love Italian food.
