Secrets and lies. With the admissions of the previous volumes, secrets are now aired and lies rescinded from the origin of Levi through to the true legacy of Historia! Some of the characterisations are shockingly juvenile but the multiple mystery sub-plots and overarching reality keep me deeply inside this story. A Three Star, 7 out of 12 instalment. :)

“I was jealous. I felt useless because I couldn’t be like you or Captain Levi. But neither you nor the Captain can fight by yourselves. Which is why we all need to find our own roles. Great power comes from joining ourselves together. I guess humans are so different from each other because of times like this.”

This has to be my favorite part of the story thus far.

After the more political turn that the previous section took, getting to dive more into this ideological pit of thought was a very seamless and gripping turn of events. And I definitely love the consequences.

Mostly, we see the deconstruction and reconstruction of Eren's beliefs and morals in a very intense sequence of events. While this whole time we have had a very simplistic character, moved by instincts, now we get a more mature look into someone that has been exposed to hardships of war and growing up.

Really, the same could be said about all the young characters in the story at this point.

While I was not the biggest fan of Eren as a character up till now, with these new developments I am most definitely on his side and cheering him up now.

“When I see someone crying, saying no one needs them, I want to tell them it’s not true. No matter who! No matter where! I’ll come to the rescue!”

While Eren's growth is probably my favorite featured in these volumes I can not forget that Historia gets a lot of development of her own, and even Levi takes a slice of it all.

Seeing all the ways that Eren and Historia became foils of each other's stories was one of the most interesting things happening. After all, having someone to mirror experiences on can often highlight all the differences and make them all the more contrasting and eye-catching.

I started this set of volumes not really understanding Historia's character and ended it with a deep appreciation for it. She is not your happy-go-lucky, cookie-cutter-sweet person but so real and raw and flawed that it makes her incredibly appealing and interesting; even if she will never raise to be one of my favorite characters in the series, I can never lose the immense respect I have for her.

Kenny, on the other hand, was just incredibly interesting and a great way to expose some of the ideas that needed to come to light and give Levi some intriguing new angles. He was, very much, his own person, and I want to know more and more about him, but narratively he served his purpose without fault.

The way Isayama always finds the time and care to develop all his characters so much will never stop impressing me.

“I can do it. No. We can do it. Because from the day we were born, there was something special about all of us. We’re free.”

Ironically, with the way things stand right now, with where things are inevitably heading, the end of the story seems to be approaching, as we're coming full circle both thematically and plot-wise.

Long awaited and desired, what already seems like a very intense arc is beginning, and we're back at the beginning, as it were.

Taking into account all the things that we have learned, all the things that have been accomplished, and all the ways the Eren and his friends have grown it looks like this new arc is going to be a lot of fun and deeply intense.

All the questions await us.

“We’re both getting the battle we’ve been hoping for. Let’s put an end to this here. Humanity, or those damned titans. One of us will survive, and the other will die.”

I guess I'm halfway through ... so the big question is should I keep going or throw in the towel now?

For most of this one, I was pretty sure I'd reached the end of my rope ... and then, I guess I shouldn't be terribly surprised ... but, towards the end, it got interesting again.

Life is long, and it makes sense to never say never, blah, blah, blah ... I guess time will tell if I pick up the next installment ... or not.

The end of the "actually kind of nice!" arc and the beginning of the "OH HELL NO" arc. We love to see it.

For me, one of the real selling points of Attack on Titan is how Isayama manages to keep raising the steaks and ending on cliffhangers without it ever feeling stale. Constant high stakes can feel the same as no stakes. Not this! Back to the book store I go!

I can't believe it ended that way, It was a big fight and then bam it stop there. I really loved the story line anyway.I loved the hilarious business with Sasha Blouse and Historia Reiss. I have a crush on Riener Bruan and Jean Kirstain I loved the plot twist in the end of the book. How can I imagine the story without the titans I bet it would be uninteresting to read but I love the concept of the wall and how to save humanity.

Book: Attack on Titan, Omnibus Vol. 6
Author: Hajime Isayama
Rating: 5 Out of 5 Stars

I am still in my slow reread of Attack on Titan and I am loving it. The second time around I am able to pick up on clues that I missed in the first read-through.

I am going to try to keep the review as spoiler-free as possible, but since this volume contains volumes sixteen, seventeen, and eighteen, there may be spoilers for earlier volumes.

After being captured by Rod Reiss, the true heir to the throne, Krista and Eren regain their lost memories. What happened to Eren, and what crime did his father commit? As the Survey Corps intensifies their search for Eren, they also struggle to solidify their military coup. With tensions escalating inside the walls, the mysteries surrounding the Titans and the world they inhabit are on the verge of being unravelled.

The brilliant blend of high-stakes action, deeply human moments, and an ever-developing storyline that refuses to pull any punches. With each volume, the series escalates the complexity of its world, offering a unique mix of heart-pounding battles and intimate character moments. Volumes 16-18 stand as some of the most gripping instalments, maintaining the series' signature tension while expanding the mysteries behind the Titans and the true history of the world.

One of the most remarkable aspects of this series is its ability to balance grand, world-altering conflicts with deeply personal character arcs. The struggles faced by Eren, Mikasa, Armin, and their comrades resonate on a profound emotional level. Even in a world ravaged by despair and uncertainty, their resilience and unwavering desire to keep fighting — despite overwhelming odds — inject a powerful sense of hope into the narrative. Every character is tested in ways that feel painfully real, and it’s in these moments of vulnerability, sacrifice, and determination that truly shines. The emotional stakes are as high as the physical ones, and it’s this duality that keeps readers invested.

The foreshadowing in these volumes is masterful. Each piece of information feels like a carefully laid puzzle, and while answers are hard-earned, the way they’re doled out keeps the intrigue at a fever pitch. The story is carefully crafted, with each revelation adding to the larger picture while raising new questions. This careful pacing ensures that the mystery behind the Titans and the true history of the world remains tantalizing and suspenseful, all while creating the perfect backdrop for the characters' emotional journeys.
These volumes deliver some of its most intense and well-choreographed battles yet. The stakes are high, the pacing relentless, and the battles themselves are as strategic as they are visceral. The violence and chaos of the world are portrayed with an unflinching realism, but the series never loses sight of the human cost of every fight. Amidst the action, there are moments of tenderness and quiet reflection that remind us that these warriors are not just cogs in a machine but people with dreams, fears, and personal motivations. This contrast between brutal action and poignant character moments adds a deep emotional resonance to the series.
At its core, this is about more than just survival — it’s about finding meaning in a world that seems to offer none. The story continually reinforces the idea that even in the darkest moments, there is always a reason to fight, and there is always hope, no matter how small. The sheer determination of the characters, and the strength they find in each other, serve as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.

In short, this continues to build on everything that makes the series exceptional: compelling characters, an intricate plot, and the perfect balance of action and emotional depth. Whether you’re here for the thrilling action sequences, the complex world-building, or the profound human moments, this series proves time and time again that it is a story worth experiencing — and one that will stick with you long after you’ve turned the last page.

Attack on Titan Omnibus 6 (Volumes 16-18) is an intense, high-stakes entry in Hajime Isayama’s legendary manga series, packed with revelations and power plays that push the story into even darker territory. This volume picks up with Eren and Historia (Krista) captured by Rod Reiss, the true king within the walls, as they uncover shocking truths about Eren’s father, Grisha, and the origins of the Titans. These chapters hit hard, blending emotional gut punches with jaw-dropping world-building that’ll leave your head spinning.

One of the standout aspects of this omnibus is the deep dive into the history of the Titans and the mysterious founding power. Eren’s memories finally come into focus, unraveling the crime his father committed—and trust me, it changes everything. At the same time, the Survey Corps is scrambling to rescue Eren while trying to legitimize their military coup, creating some seriously tense moments. The political drama within the walls hits its peak here, adding layers of complexity to the fight for freedom.

The action? Absolutely brutal, as always. From Levi’s jaw-dropping encounters with Kenny’s squad to the intense Titan transformations, the visuals are as gritty and chaotic as ever. Isayama’s art style perfectly captures the desperation and fear of these moments, while the larger format of the omnibus lets you soak in every horrifying detail.

Volume 16
This volume is so good!! We're finally getting some answers and the story is starting to make a lot more sense. I'm still waiting for the story to get back around to Annie's storyline though... It's been quite some time since that cliffhanger with her.

Volume 17
Historia's transformation into her new role in the series was done so well. She's really growing on me and she's slowly becoming one of my favorite characters. That ending though... Why'd they had to leave the story on a cliffhanger like that??

Volume 18
Hooooly shit that cliffhanger.
It is seriously getting harder and harder to wait a whole effing month for the next chapter to come out. Especially when every damn chapter ends on a cliffhanger.
This felt like just a lot of strategy and filler scenes until that final chapter when things started to get intense

3.5 stars, (7/10). That cliffhanger?!

I think i’ve reached a point of confusion where I should watch the show up to these volumes to have a better idea of WTF happened at the beginning/middle of this omnibus. I was left scratching my head a fair-amount throughout this.

Let the war begin.

Also, where did all the little Titans come from there at the end? No one is living on this side of the wall. Did they bring their people over to turn into mindless Titans?
