Join Gilbert the Goblin in his third book (following Unicorns & Dragons) as he sets out to prove that Yetis are, in fact, THE WORST!
Armed with his Polaroid camera, Gilbert trudges up the snowy mountain, intending to find a Yeti and take its photo, proving that there’s nothing mysterious and interesting about them.
Hilarity ensues as Gilbert mistakenly takes photographs of shrubbery, and ice-carving bunny, a polar bear getting a makeover, a meditating mountain goat, and a snowboarding unicorn wearing a puffy coat (all while Yetis observe him in the background).
Love this series, and I am really looking forward to book 4, Elves are the Worst.

Yetis are shy and quiet, but there is a goblin who is going to prove to you that they are the worst creatures out there. They just must find them first. This book is tongue in cheek. It is so much fun and not only are the illustrations great, but the cover of the book also has both scratchy and fluffy textures. It’s the little things that count, and this book was a little joy to read.

This was a great winter installment in the series. The map was a really great addition to the book. We had a lot of fun seeing where the yetis popped up behind Gilbert while he was none the wiser. This book quickly became a favorite to read on snowy days. I love the color palette used for the illustrations in this one.

This is another Show Me nominee for next year. I can already hear the younger students laughing. Not sure how much it will appeal to my fourth graders. It appears I was wrong. It's a universal hit!

November 15, 2022YETIS ARE THE WORST! is an absolutely delightful picture book that follows Gilbert the Goblin on his quest to find some yetis and prove to everyone that they are not so mysterious and cool. Gilbert sets out on the mountain with his camera only to discover that the things he is snapping photos of are, in fact, not yetis, but instead are shrubbery, a unicorn on skis, a bunny carving an ice sculpture, and more. What he does not notice is that the yetis are all around him. So when he yells and starts an avalanche, he falls into a secret yeti lair - only to realize that yetis are just shy.
What I loved: This is such a fun and clever book. Children will absolutely adore poor Gilbert, who just wants everyone to know how cool goblins are and forget about those mysterious yetis. The snafus with the pictures he takes turning out to be different things with a yeti profile only add to the all the giggles - as do the yetis right behind him as he heads up the mountain unbeknownst to him. Children love feeling like they are in on the joke, and this book is full of simple and cute silliness that they will love to see.
The illustrations are lush and full of great details as well as adorable characters. There is plenty for children to visually explore on each page. The endpages are really cute too, expanding on the story with Gilbert and the yetis in the form of pictures taken. The text is clear and easy to read aloud on each page, told from the perspective of Gilbert. The pages can turn quickly, which works well for a wide range of ages. My preschooler has had us read this book probably about a million times - so it's a very quick favorite and one that we can all giggle about!
What left me wanting more: As a very small thing, the time after meeting the yetis felt very brief, and it would have been cool to have a bit more conversation with them, but the major points are conveyed and children won't mind.
Final verdict: Adorable silliness abounds in YETIS ARE THE WORST! Highly recommend for children who love adorable characters, laughing, and a search for the unknown.

These pages prove how sneaky, giggle-worthy, and determined a yeti hunt can be.
Gilbert the Goblin is at it again, trying to prove to the reader that yetis aren't nearly as mysterious as people make them out to be. Wielding a polaroid camera, he marches off through mountains and snow. Of course, it doesn't quite work out the way he hopes it will.
This is the third book in a series, each which stands perfectly well on its own. Gilbert is his usual, concerned self and is out to prove that another mystical creatures, this time yetis, aren't nearly as awesome as people make them out to be...so, in other words, his envy shines through in an, actually, very subtle manner. Readers will pick up on it and realize he's being ridiculous, but it's most definitely the humor that drives this read. And quiet yetis.
The illustrations carry the humor, while the text lets Gilbert's more serious thoughts, flow. Each scene will have listeners giggling as the yetis appear. The illustrations are cheerful, oh-so-snowy, and make the yetis and Gilbert very approachable.
The other books in the series carry much the same scheme as this new one, but it's still a lot of fun to explore the various mythical creatures from the simple humor end as it pokes a bit of fun at the stories surrounding each one. Plus, Gilbert's jealousy makes it interesting to see what he'll try next...and how it always ends.
I do see this one as a very fun read-aloud in a group setting and for smaller book cuddling as well. I received a DRC and loved the guaranteed laughs kids have.

Sarcastic, that’s the word that I would use to describe this book. Gilbert is a goblin and he’s bound and determined to prove that Yeti’s are the worse. Gilbert thinks that his species (goblins) are basically underrated and that the Yeti is overrated. Why are the Yeti’s overrated? Because no one has actually seen one so everyone is intrigued by them. Gilbert is now on a mission to find a Yeti so he can prove to the readers of this book that they aren’t as great as goblins, in fact, they are worse.
The problem is, that while Gilbert is on his mission to find a Yeti, he finds other things that look like a Yeti. This problem frustrates Gilbert making him get angry and upset. What Gilbert doesn’t see if what is happening behind him. It isn’t until a weather emergency causes Gilbert to take quick action that he realizes what a Yeti really is.
An entertaining book that kids will certainly love as the illustrations are comical and Gilbert’s comments are witty and amusing. Some of the pages in this book are set up in graphic novel fashion which aids in the flow of the story and adds depth to the storyline. A bright new book from the children's author/illustrator who brought us Unicorns Are the Worst! and Dragons Are the Worst!, Yetis Are the Worst! shines the brightest of all.
Gilbert the Goblin is out to prove Yetis exist and that they're not so mysterious nor as cool as everyone thinks. He sets off with his camera, climbing a mountain of snow to get the perfect photo of a yeti. Little does Gilbert know the yetis are everywhere around him, but he can't seem to see them. Young readers are sure to point out the "hidden" yetis and laugh as Gilbert attempts to locate even one yeti.
When an avalanche comes roaring down the mountain, Gilbert falls into the yetis' secret hideout where he discovers yetis are just like you and me. They cook, they play music, and they even sit down to go to the bathroom!
The yetis are fascinated by Gilbert and his camera and they happily take pictures. It turns out, as Gilbert says, "Yetis aren't so mysterious...they're just a little shy..."
Adorable illustrations of the yetis fill each page and Gilbert's expressions and feelings captivate the reader.
Highly, highly recommended ages 3 and up.

I was so excited when I first purchased this book for story time, but when I opened it, I wasn't sure if the kids would like and understand all of the jokes. At the last minute, I was going to select my backup book, but ended up sticking with my original anyway.
Boy, let me tell you that I am extremely glad that I didn't swap it out.
The kids at story time were CRACKING up, and it was so nice to see! They were laughing at how many times the goblin didn't see the yetis that kept multiplying every time he would move and take a new photo!
I had one girl yell out, "Miss Aimee, the yeti is right there! Behind the trees!" And even seeing the older kids laughing at the goblin and his reactions were hilarious. I highly suggest this book even for adults... cause I was cracking up as well!

Yetis are the Worst! By Alex Willian is the newest installment in a series of books about a goblin who has a bad attitude about some other magical creatures. In his last book he discovered that unicorns, contrary to his belief, are not the worst but actually throw the best tea parties and that dragons make delicious ice cream! This time around Gilbert is determined to abide by the fact that yetis are the worst. They are too mysterious and sneaky. Gilbert is determined to find the very secretive creatures and when he does he discovers a lot of good things about them he never knew before. Another hit for Willian. My youngest kids love his books!

Gilbert the Goblin is on the search for Yetis to prove they are not so mysterious. As he climbs the snowy mountain scape, he mistakes many frosty figures for the elusive creature. As children read the book, they will be shouting at Gilbert to just turn around as the Yeti surround him. When he accidentally stumbles into their secret hideout, he witnesses them as they perform their routine daily tasks. Finally, he gets the photo he wants, a Yeti selfie. Fun bright drawings fill the pages of this book and bring the Yeti to life.

From the glitter on the cover to the end pages of this book, I was hooked! Alex Willan is a master of bringing joy to my students with his silliness, his creativity, the use of speech bubbles (which my heavily graphic novel reading students love), and his quirky characters. Gilbert the goblin is searching for a Yeti to photograph and readers will see the Yeti along this search to much hilarity. The fun is of course the extremely silly circumstance that brings him face to face with a Yeti. His explanation of why there are no pictures of them is that they are shy. Of course! Who knew?

I really enjoy Willans ... Are the Worst! series. The books are funny and goblin is always OK with changing his opinion after he actually gets to know the creatures that he believes are not that great.
And besides - who wouldn't want to see a picture of a yeti on a toilet?
The graphic novel format will also be a big draw for kids.

A goblin's focus is to climb a mountain and locate a Yeti. The goblin climbs and passes many as they watch him photograph the shrubbery and they blend into the snow. The goblin takes photos of polar bears, mountain goats, and other animals and the Yeti finally gets up close to a goblin. Funny illustrations showing what the goblin misses as he searches. Great read aloud as the children point out what the goblin misses.

What kind of apron does a yeti wear when he or she is making flapjacks? One that says "Snow Place Like Home," of course.
This is cute and has a bit of suspense. There's a small illustration of a yeti sitting on a toilet, which didn't bother me at all but could cause kids in a classroom setting to act up. (Toilets are funny, though!)

In this glitter-covered follow up to Unicorns Are The Worst and Dragons Are The Worst, we get another visit from Gilbert the goblin trying to prove the banality of another mythological creature. This silly tale has lots of side notes from the main narrative that make it perfect for beginning readers, and an opportunity to shout and cause an avalanche… of laughs.

So many funny pictures in this book. I like the one of Gilbert in the crane game machine, and the one of the yetis playing the piano and cello. I like the story of how he's looking for the yetis and even though there's plenty of them behind him, he doesn't find them until he falls into their secret hide out. I also love how he ends up liking the creatures at the end.

Gilbert the Goblin is on a mission - he's going to get a picture of a yeti to prove that they actually aren't all that great just because they are mysterious. Kids will enjoy how obtuse he is as yetis are hiding in the background while he's taking pictures of what turns out to be random snow-covered stuff. A fun, silly book that can be used for a yeti, snow, goblin, or monster themed story time.

These books are always so cute but definitely wouldn't work for a preschool or younger storytime. Maybe for an elementary school visit or even with teens or preteens for a fun themed event of some sort.

Perhaps I have a false memory of the others but this one just didn't seem as fun. That being said the illustrations are still cute and I do think kids would enjoy it which is why I am giving it 4 stars.

After realizing he was wrong about unicorns, and dragons, Gilbert the Goblin has returned and is out to prove once and for all that Yeti's are the worst, and not so cool and mysterious as everyone makes them out to be. All Gilbert needs is a photo of one to prove his theory.

The goblin doesn't think Yetis are all that amazing and wants to prove it to everybody else. He figures they're only mysterious because no one has ever seen one, so he heads into the mountains to take a picture of one. The art is cute.

A fun and exciting read about a goblin looking for Yetis because why are they so mysterious instead of goblins. Great illustrations with lots of visual appeal. The story is working on thinking and reasoning skills. Great ending with understanding and knowledge.

Goblin makes a case for yetis not being the most mysterious creatures. To prove goblins are more mysterious he decides to capture one on film. His attempts don’t work (though readers can giggle at the yetis he misses). That is until an avalanche solves the case. Hilarious. Fun structure too.

This was funny - a little elf goes to find Yetis and prove that they are not shy or hard to find. The Yetis are super obvious, and the poor little elf CANNOT find them for the life of him. The illustrations were very entertaining.
