Lottery King #1

Lottery King

Rate this book
I never imagined I’d win this big playing the lottery.

Then I bought a ticket that would change my life forever, and it’s not only riches I’m rolling in now.

I’ve won the right to rule as king of the entire paranormal world that’s been hidden right before my eyes. And the perks just keep piling up: Money, cars, mansions, the finest cuisine, the most exotic beauties I’ve ever laid eyes on… you name it.

I’m even expected to marry multiple paranormal women.

But being the first human king of the Eternal Realm comes with its own challenges, and there’s plenty of species who’d like to see my head on a spike.

It’s time to show my subjects exactly what kind of king I intend to be, because there’s no way I’m giving up the rich life now that I’ve finally gotten a taste of it.

Great start !

Hopefully this story goes far. I am looking forward to seeing more character development. What kind of change would a human do to a mystical world sitting next to ours.

This book was another disappointment for me from this author. It's another interesting concept that was wasted on a shallow harem story. I wouldn't mind so much if the author was better at writing harem/romance/adult stories, but that part of the story is always really weak because the character work is so shallow, and the adult elements are so formulaic.

I liked the concept of someone winning a kingship of a magical kingdom from a lottery, and I think there's a lot of potential in the storyline of a non-magical human using the managerial skills of a human workplace in managing a magical kingdom where his subjects feel he doesn't belong. It's an intriguing premise filled with conflict, and it felt utterly wasted here.

Overall, I'd give this one a 2 out of 5, but I'm going to award it one extra star because clearly, I have some biases around this author and the way he writes stories that are getting in the way of my objectivity.

Normally I like Eric’s novels but I just could not finish this and it was simply for the main reason of the setting: Orlando.

While not a native Floridian I’ve been here for most of my life and lived in Orlando since ‘96, so when I noticed the use of the setting I was excited. Until I started seeing things that just felt like someone who just wrote a non-Florida setting and decided to say it took place in FL.

I know it seems to be a small thing, but with the amount of fiction that takes place in a city I enjoy living in can be counted on a couple of fingers (that I want to read at least) it really is a downer when the author didn’t really do the research to make it feel like it took place in the setting. And yeah I know in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t matter but if that is the case, just put it in a setting you know better.

Love the sorry. I just wish — oh how I wish — that the author didn’t use so many and’s! Every other sentence had an “and” in it! I drove through the city and I took a right on front street. “… I said, and I stepped back …”. “I walked up the steps, and I took a seat …” Seriously, it’s not needed! Truthfully, if the story wasn’t so damn good I never would have gotten through it. If he only cleared it up it would be a solid 5 stars. Instead, its 3.5 stars (4 since goodreads won’t let me do 1/2 stars and it really is a great story). I am totally wanting to read the next one, its just incredibly difficult to get through the story at times.

Not very good. This book was a slow read with the protagonist being a thick skulled fool who had to have every single thing repeated over and over to him. Then he still refused to believe even when shown undeniable proof. I hate stupid main characters in stories!
This book read like a young adult story, except it was filled with gratuitous foul language and gross, vulgar sex scenes. That were written like a horny 12 year old boy wrote them. I will NOT be reading any more of this series. The only reason I gave this book 2 stars is because it was a great idea for a story. To bad the author failed to do it any justice with this terrible mess of a book.

This is pretty much what you would expect. Writing is competent, story is interesting enough and the MC isn't a douchebag. A bit more than that would earn a 5th star, but for me it doesn't have that extra bit that would push it past a 4.

Grabbed my attention and my imagination

Was struggling through another of Eric’s series when I thought I would try this series. I found this story much more to my liking, and read through it quickly. I liked the characters and the build up to the relationships you can see coming. A couple of sex scenes were included in this book which is common for Eric’s books, but were in line with the story and didn’t seem forced. This feels more world building and gave me a vague vibe of the Japanese story and anime of “how a realist rebuilt the kingdom”. I think that style of world building would be a rather good way for this story to go. Lots of intrigue, assassination attempts etc. keeps the action going. A fun read.

Pretty good!!

I was impressed by this book by Eric Vall. I do not normally enjoy his books, but this one was good. The only annoying thing was the amount of f bombs that drop in the first half or so. It seems a little excessive, and does not really fit in, except to try to show how strong/edgy the MC is. It is a little lazy, when good writing could communicate strength much better. I don’t normally mind it when a character curses a lot, but they did not seem to fit the character or instances, and had me feeling like someone was trying too hard. They seem to stop mostly for the 2nd half, which fit much better.

this was sooooo good!

My first book by Vall and i was shocked at how good this book was! My oh my it was amazingly good! Simply superb. I loved the intrigue, politics and power plays of the Eternal Realm. Michael was a boss!!! A true King! I loved every second of this book! Also i cant say how much I instantly loved Poppy and Helena… but im curious about Nyxx 🤔. Will she somehow be on the menu? Lol he had a reaction when he met her so im curious about what will come of that. After all her species is apart of the realm haha.

Surprisingly Great

Eric Call is hit or miss with me. Most of his books are a 3 out of 5 or less. Vall's writing rings of harem cash grabs most of the time. I never read the back of a book because I don't like spoilers. I go off of title and cover. This book sounded really dumb at first, but I am really glad I gave it a try. This book is a very slow burn with awesome characters and amazing character & world building. Very good job Eric.

Not bad

Another example of how easy it is to get into a new story. A slow start that took off fast and kept getting better. The security system has to be the best of all that I have read about, I wish it was mine. The idea that he has so many good cars and no speed issues to worry about just would make my day. A well written story line that is easy to stay interested in and easy to follow. The characters are top-notch and well written.

Winner Winner!

This new series promises to be a very enjoyable one. The vast array of characters as well as the layering of the worlds promises to create an environment that should be both familiar and completely alien at the same time. I really look forward to seeing where The story goes.

Best new storyline

I thoroughly enjoyed the concept of the lottery as the manner in which this book began. The introduction of him being a Mirror Mage allows the reader to realize that he can survive and flourish in this strange new world he suddenly finds himself in. I will definitely refer my friends to read the Lottery King.

Well, this series is off to a good start. There's no major world-ending crisis, but our MC has to quickly establish himself as the new king since not everyone in the paranormal world is thrilled with the idea of a human king. This is another series where I have a hard time quantifying why it's a much fun as it is, but I really enjoyed it and looking forward to more.

Amazing

Just when you thought by looking at the Title what this new series from Eric Vall would be about, you read it and it’s totally not what you thought. This book is amazing! Fascinating characters, an MC who is a great balance of strength and compassion. Mystery and action all in one. Can’t wait for book 2!

great start

A great start to a “the unseen world is hiding in plain sight” series. Good setup of the mechanics of how that works without going overboard and the main character does a good fish out of water need everything explained yet still manages to gather himself to be effective. Interesting cast.

Reads like a stand alone....

Though it says that there will be more books forthcoming, the book reads more like a stand alone novel. I don't get the feeling of more driving this story.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great story and I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I don't see how it moves forward

Excellent story

I am very interested in finding out more of the story. I did subtract a star due to editing issues. The last one I noticed was using your when you're was the appropriate word. Like I said, minor. If half-stars were a thing my review would be 4.5 stars. I am looking forward to reading Lottery King 2.

wow a total surprise.

So I’m not to surprised that it was a good good. All of Eric ball books are amazing. But the cover is deceiving not that it’s bad or anything but the book is sooo much better than what the cover shows. I know this can be one of his best and I hope we get to see it come too.

Good and different story but...

The story is engaging and has a similar but different vibe as those "another world"(forgot the Japanese word for it) books out there however the only notable flaw is the same common one that plagues the OELN community and that is that the sex scenes playout too much like unnatural and boring American porn making them hard to get past

Fun Series!

This is a very intriguing take on the displaced human in the supernatural universe. As a frequent lotto player it caught my attention then held it with well crafted characters, fast action, good dialogue and spice! I'm looking forward to the next book!

Wonderful

This was a wonderful take on the supernatural being real and hidden behind a veil. It's been done before, but this was refreshing honestly. Highly Recommend, can't wait for book 2.

Loved it

I'm a bit late to the party but I loved this book. The pacing, the cast of characters, the premise, everything about it hooked me from the jump. Really hope this one sells well and we get a nice sized series. Keep up the amazing work EV

Best this Decade

I am a habitual reader, I've read many of your books and this is the start of something terrific. I lived in Orlando and worked in Winter Park back in the '70s your locations have added a smile to the tale. Can't wait for the next publication.😆

Unexpected

I actually was going to bypass this book based on the title until I read a review that said it was not what the reader expected. It is a really good story and one you read it, you will understand the title.
