Revenge when you least expect it…

Nikki Garcia, a private investigator, escapes to Spain with Eduardo, her fiancé, after a death threat on her last assignment. She puts the past behind her and turns the trip to Barcelona into their destination wedding.

A few days after their wedding, Nikki and the love of her life find themselves caught up in a terrorist attack at one of the city’s major tourist attractions. As events unravel, Nikki discovers she is being stalked. Worse yet, she may have been the target of the deadly bombing.

Will she be able to locate the would-be assassin and outsmart him before it’s too late?

The novel is deftly plotted and masterfully written.

A mad dash and the clicking of heels all the way from Mexico to the streets of Barcelona.

Revenge in Barcelona is the third in the Nikki Garcia Series. Never you mind. I started with this one and have already grabbed the first two books. Kathryn Lane fills in a bit of background as we settle into this action-packed escapade into one of Spain's most beautiful cities.

Nikki and her fiance, Eduardo Duarte, are about to land in Barcelona. Nikki's a private investigator in Mexico and also works out of Florida. She and Eduardo have left behind a harrowing experience in which Nikki was responsible for putting away some of Mexico's most hardened criminals.

It's now the time to look forward to a rooftop wedding for Nikki and Eduardo. They visit Nikki's Aunt Carmen who is delighted to see them. Carmen's own daughter, Paula, will be wed the following week to her fiance, Fado. But there's a noticeable distance between the mother and daughter. Paula works as a mediator for recent immigrants into Spain. Her job seems to be causing quite a lot of stress for the bride-to-be. Nikki believes it's far more than that.

Then Kathryn Lane switches gears and takes us to Morocco. Two brothers, originally from Nigeria, are locked in a heated discussion. There's a tragedy on the horizon here. One of the occupants of that little abode will be slipping into Spain with another in pursuit. Paths will be crossing and Nikki and Eduardo may be at the receiving end of the line.

Kathryn Lane has created quite a panorama of the outstanding visuals, culture, and cuisine of this city. She's done her research and we're drawn tightly in. But Revenge in Barcelona is not just a travelogue. Lane has injected murder, mayhem, terrorist plots, and unseemingly bad guy characters into this one. The writing is fast-paced and high interest. Will be picking up the first two in this series and looking forward to see where Nikki will venture next. Check this series out.

I won this book in a goodreads drawing.

Nikki Garcia and her fiancee go to Barcelona to get married, and attend the marriages of some of her relatives. Pages of wedding plans and talking about paella before anything even happens.

I didn't much like it.

“Revenge in Barcelona” by Kathryn Lane is a novel spanning the genres of mystery, thriller, and sleuthing. The main characters are private investigator Nikki Garcia, and her fiancé, Eduardo Duarte. Nikki Garcia works in Mexico as an international fraud auditor, but recently she's received death threats, and has decided to reside in another country due to these threats.

Nikki doesn't know who or where the threats are emanating from, as her vocation often puts her in danger with many enemies. A fraud auditor is a dangerous job, especially when your main duty involves, "where's the money." Nikki and her fiancé decide to relocate Barcelona, Spain, a long way from Mexico! After their arrival, Nikki realizes that she hasn't escaped the dangers. The person(s) threatening her life has a long arm! Who is trying to harm her? Why?

“Revenge in Barcelona” is a super sleuth/suspense novel. What I essentially mean by super is that everything was clearly well-researched by the author prior to writing the book. For one to write this type of novel takes a great amount of time so that all the locations, sentences, and plots "match" the storyline. She just didn't write the book, but brilliantly plotted a great cast and smooth plots. (I researched her research)!

The plot is stupendous with elegant, well-written prose, and the flow is upbeat. There is no back flipping with this book, meaning you won't have to return to a previous page to remind you of what you already read. Now, what's extremely savvy and smart about, “Revenge in Barcelona” is this: because this novel is set as an international thriller, spanning exotic locales, the author has added a map and glossary to the story!

The glossary is smartly provided. Anything stated that the reader isn't familiar with is made plain....brilliant move. And with the detailed map provided, not only can you visualize the various cities and countries, but you'll feel like you're there. “Revenge in Barcelona” is part of the Nikki Garcia thriller series by Kathryn Lane. Lane smartly gives enough information to keep the flow going in the series and it also holds its own as a standalone mystery. I highly recommend “Revenge in Barcelona.” A thrilling story with a well-researched plot - it’s easily 5 Big Stars.

Not only was this book hard to put down, but it felt like I was experiencing all of the city sites as well as tasting all of the food. The descriptions are marvelous. This is the third in the series and I worried about Nikki’s safety throughout all three of them. In this book, it was interesting to know more about how these terrorists work and how scary they are! The characters in the book are well developed and it’s easy to relate to each of them. I recommend reading all three!

Revenge in Barcelona is a fast-moving international mystery that blends personal stakes with global danger, placing love, survival, and investigation on a collision course. Kathryn Lane delivers a story that opens with romance and celebration, only to fracture it abruptly with violence, an effective narrative turn that keeps tension high from the outset.

What stands out most is the use of contrast. Barcelona’s beauty, history, and allure as a wedding destination intensify the shock of the terrorist attack that shatters Nikki Garcia’s sense of safety. The setting is not merely decorative; it heightens vulnerability and disorientation, especially as Nikki realizes that the chaos may not have been random at all.

Nikki is a compelling protagonist precisely because she is not a passive victim. As a private investigator, she is trained to notice patterns and threats, yet the story smartly undermines any illusion of control. Being stalked in a foreign country, while grieving, newly married, and recovering from trauma, forces Nikki to rely on both instinct and restraint, creating sustained psychological tension.

The novel is tightly plotted, with revelations unfolding at a deliberate pace. Suspicion shifts organically, and the question of whether Nikki was the intended target drives the narrative forward without resorting to gimmicks. The emotional core, the relationship between Nikki and Eduardo, adds urgency rather than distraction, grounding the suspense in something deeply personal.

Lane’s writing balances momentum with clarity, making the story especially well-suited to audio format. The stakes remain consistently high, and the threat feels credible, contemporary, and disturbingly plausible.

Revenge in Barcelona will strongly appeal to readers and listeners who enjoy international mysteries, female-led thrillers, and suspense novels where romance and danger are inseparably linked.

Book Three of the Nikki Garcia Thriller series finds the investigator and her fiance Eduardo in Barcelona on a much-deserved vacation. It doesn't take long before they realize that someone is stalking them, and won't stop short of eliminating them.

Like the other books in Lane's series, Revenge is filled with picturesque snippets of the city that is its namesake. But don't be fooled, this is more than a travel journal. When they realize their lives are in the sites of a hired killer, the plot takes a turn. Nikki and Eduardo must be smart and think fast, faster than their pursuer.

While part of a series, it's not necessary to have read the other two - Revenge in Barcelona makes a good standalone - I haven't read the others in the series, yet enjoyed this one. Fast-paced, filled with twists, what really intrigued me is that early on we see a man who might be after them, and get a front-row seat to just how savage he can be. It keeps you turning the pages to the very last one.

Nikki and Eduardo Duarte newly wed are caught in horrifying Spanish murder of family member.

Nikki and Eduardo go to Spain and find the perfect place to get married and have family help make arrangements then they honeymoon until her cousins wedding a week latter. The under ground Muslim blow the wedding up and kill the bride, groom, pasture, grooms mother, brides uncle, and others. The only reason more weren’t killed is Eduardo tackled the man with the phone detonator and stopped him. They were right in the middle of the investigation from the start to finish. It was messy and deadly.

This was my first experience reading this author and boy, what a treat. While you might read the first few chapters and wonder where you were going with it - then bang. Those first chapters are essential to the whole story and the excitement and intrigue is fascinating. A great plot, with characters that you'll love, a few not so much, but they are all critical to the story. This author is great and I'll definitely look at reading more from her.

Wow. That’s the state of mind I’m in. While a bit confusing at first with all the characters, Kathryn Lane weaves together roughly 17 main figures in under 300 pages. By the end, the whole plot line connects, characters are all together, and it blows your mind. Kept me guessing and engaged!

This is my first time reading Lane but I’m thinking it won’t be the last. I hope you read and enjoy it too!

Revenge is in the air in this novel coming from every direction across the globe! Nikki and her fiance are on vacation and plan to marry where they first met as children in Barcelona. This is really supposed to be a pleasure trip but it certainly does not end up being that! There is non stop action throughout which will keep you guessing--will everyone get the revenge they seek? But don't worry--the ending befits all the crimes!

I felt more or less the same about this one as I did about #2: great writing all around, a very absorbing read; Nikki is generally an enjoyable character but occasionally strangely annoying, which is most of the reason for the -1 star. Still, these are great books to pick up if you want to become completely oblivious to the passage of time in the real world.

Great book, if you’re planning your wedding and/or honeymoon In Barcelona. Beautiful descriptions of churches, museums and recommendations of restaurants.
But the book takes almost 30-40% to get into the plot and in the end of the story I am still confused of the many intriguing characters.
Sorry, not what I was looking for.

Ideally, I'd give this 2 1/2 stars. The story line was ok, but the travelogue approach to Barcelona (a city I lived in for 4 years and which I love) was pedantic. I also has issues with things the author left in and things she didn't address at all. Needless to say, I never need to read another of her books.

I am enjoying this series! In this one, Nikki and Eduardo have gone to Barcelona and plan to marry there. But someone from their past is after them and when a terrorist attack at LA Sagrada has links to them, the plot thickens. Having been to this beautiful city, it was fun reading a book that takes place there.

I truly enjoyed following Nikki Garcia’s adventures in Spain. This book is carefully researched and tightly constructed. All loose ends are tied. In fact, thanks to this book I am now planning my first trip to Barcelona. I enjoyed the first two book in this series but this one was the best.

A great read with many twists

I enjoyed this novel very much. I thought it started slow, with a lot of detail I thought was extraneous. But then it started moving and had me in its grasp to the very end. Thanks for a great time reading.
