Warrior Mates of Zivon #2

Protected by the Alien Commander

Rate this book
Gorgeous alien commanders don’t fall for Earth girls with criminal records. Do they?

I’ve got a list of regrets a mile long, starting with the time I went to jail and ending with the fact that not long after I got out, I was abducted by alien smugglers. As if that isn’t bad enough, a split-second decision when their ship crashes nearly costs me my life.

And when I wake up after the crash, everything has changed.

I’m no longer being held captive by brutal space pirates. Instead, I’ve been rescued by a group of alien warriors called Zivonians. Their leader, Ryven, claims he wants to help me, offering me safe haven on their massive ship.

I know how the universe works, though. You never get something for nothing, so there has to be a catch somewhere. Despite the temptation to trust this powerful, handsome warrior, I know I can’t afford to open up my heart.

But when I make a mistake and have to face the consequences of my actions, the only one willing to stand up for me… is Ryven.

Everyone I knew back on Earth saw me as nothing but the sum total of my screw-ups, but Ryven looks at me differently.

He looks at me like someone worth protecting. Someone worth fighting for. Someone worth loving.

Will he still feel that way when he finds out about my past?

Protected by the Alien Commander is a full-length standalone sci-fi romance featuring a heroine with a troubled past and a battle-hardened alien commander with a soft spot for his fierce human mate.

If you like sexy aliens, sweeping adventure, and steamy romance, you’ll love this series. No cheating, no cliffhanger, and a happily ever after guaranteed!

Note: each book in the series can be read as a standalone, but for maximum enjoyment, it’s recommended that the series be read in order.

I love reading romance, baking (well... eating) cookies, and binge-watching sci fi shows with my husband. I'm a sucker for a dirty talking alpha with a heart of gold, and I write stories about fierce aliens and the strong Earth women they fall in love with.

Good, but standard alien romance!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤❤️💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: ☺️😊🙃😋🥰
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Kate - she wakes up in some kind of pod, with males looking at her and talking, but she can’t understand them. They kind of look human but also not. They have chameleon-like skin that changes color from green to tan. She sees her sister, who died, and she feels a lot of guilt about her death. She tried to take care of her sick sister Rebecca; Kate had to steal and do small crimes to pay the bills, but she couldn’t save her sister. After Rebecca died, she lost her apartment and ended up in a cheap motel where she was abducted by aliens. When they crash landed, she was impaled by something.

The Hero: Ryven - He is attracted to Kate from the start. He keeps telling her that she is safe, but he can tell that she can’t understand him. Her inner ear was damaged in the crash, so despite having a translator implanted, she is unable to hear or understand him. He feels protective of her, and it bothers him because he usually only feels protective of the Zivonian people that he is in charge of as commander of his ship and highest ranking Zivonian left alive.

The story: Ryven never wanted to be the leader of the last of his people, but when the Kruul attacked and laid waste to Zivon, he was the highest ranking official alive who managed to make it onto the Oasis and he now takes his duty seriously and will do anything to keep his people safe. The Krull now outnumber the Zivonians and he wants to seek out other Zivonians that may be out there as well as keep his people fed and alive.

I liked this book. It was pretty standard alien romance. The alien species was basically decimated and not many of their women are left, and they come across some human women and find they can be mates. It was definitely not original, but I like alien romance and I am pretty used to this storyline. This was better than some, not as good as others. I do like it when a bit more originality is brought to the mix. I didn’t exactly like at the beginning how Kate was feeling sorry for herself because her sister died and she had to turn to crime to pay the hospital bills. When she was traveling with a race of people who lost most of their population and their planet in a terrible war and were still being hunted. You would think she would see that as a “others have it worse than me” moment.

This audiobook was narrated in dual points of view via dual narration. Stephanie Kay and C.J. Grey narrated the audiobook and do a nice job. C.J. Grey has a deep, gravelly voice and speaks in a slow tempo which works well for an alien romance. Stephanie Kay has a youthful sounding voice, and sounds very natural, not like she is reading. She is great at sounding anxious.

Just okay. Her other books are so much better. And the first in this series was great. But I scrolled through a lot of this because it was repetitive. Really repetitive.

Enjoyable but I didn't connect with Kate and Ryven as much as Tara/Rok in the previous book. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I will say, Presley Hall does write some nice spicy scenes though 😏🔥

Preferred this to the first one.
Learnt that the marking doesnt need sex to show up.
And finally their was acknowledgement of babymaking if if it was weird for them suddenly talking about starting a family when there was no mention previously of condoms or the like and therefore theyd been babymaking the entire time. Almost expected for their to be a pregnancy result when she was in the pod towards the end but whatever.
Glad theyve finally decided to find a planet and i hope its the same human females as mates planet that other alien series in this universe are based on. Not only for the women but for the aliens to have others with the same issues of protecting their families and raising half humans and they should also be able to interbreed like second generation wise add in that the alien dudes who arent hunted by the krull could do the off world stuff so the zivonians arent recognised would be another benefit. Anyhoo while kate was okay i actually really preferred ryven i got kates martyr personality and even her desire to be secretive about her past and shit but she couldve chilled with the other girls and not spoken about earth stuff. The savya? Dude fucked me off though being so aggressive and purposefully nasty. Oh and finally we have a interaction no matter how brief a mention with a zivonian female i want to know how theyre different to the females if theyre warriors too basically anything more about their culture. If they stick to themselves or like the human females if they have children which i mean they should so where are they what do people do who arent soldiers all day like whats their hobbies or duties. Im assuming someones cooking the food their eating like idk i feel like their world building cultural stuff is lacking af. And i woulsve thought wed be introduced to it bu the commanders story since he oversees everything but we got fuck all. Like i got the frst book being like that given the whole crime lord situ and hiding and him thinking he may be the last etc but now theyre all on the ship its dumb. Like give me some world building and im not a fan of spaceship setring so hopefully they find their planet home in the next book or ill get cabin fever i mean theres only so much you can do on a ship. And most of its done already and usually the same template. Anyway enjoying the series need there to be babies kids and culture but otherwise eh.

Another book with a completely unlikeable FMC

This is the second book in the Warrior Mates of Zivon series. Near the end of book 1 a group of human women were discovered in the cargo hold of a ship that was pursuing our main couple; Rok and Tara. This book is the story of the Zivon ship’s commander, Ryven and his human mate, Kate. Kate has a million walls up and trusts no one. Sure, she’s had a shitty life on earth, is there any FMC in any of these alien romance books that hasn’t? But I digress . . . Commander Ryven has his work cut out for him because now that he knows Kate is his mate, he cannot imagine his life without her.

I’ll be honest. I usually like Presley Hall’s books, but for some reason, this series just hasn’t grabbed my attention. While I understand what the author was going for with our heroine’s character development, it just fell flat for me. Kate had a bad life . . . Dying sister she was extremely close with, no other relatives, had to steal to pay bills, finding herself homeless, no one to help her, no one to be able to count on, blah blah blah. But here’s the thing . . .none of that excuses being a bitch. Sure, she has all the reasons and no excuses. I couldn’t figure out why, bond or no bond, Ryven wanted her so badly. I found her unlikeable from the beginning and didn’t warm up to her even after accepting the bond. By that time, I wasn’t able to connect with her in any way so I didn’t give a shit.

There is a HEA ending for Ryven and Kate, and the epilogue sets up the next book. While these books may be able to be read independently, I’d still recommend that you read the books in order. There is an overarching storyline that is advanced a bit in each book. You won’t be lost, but it would be better if you read the other books. As I said I usually really like this author, so I’ll continue with the next book and cross my fingers that we have a more likeable heroine.

I received an advance review copy of the book: “Protected by the Alien Commander”. Despite that, this is my honest review of the book.

This is an amazing second book in the “Zivonian Mate” series by Kate Rudolph. The setting is the Zivonian ship called, The Oasis, led by the Commander Ryven.

A red-haired Terran called Kate was critically injured when the smuggler’s ship she was in, along with many other Terran women, crashed into the landing deck of the ship “The Oasis”. She is treated in the ship’s medical suite as she was impaled by a weapon just below her ribs during the crash, puncturing a lung, and there are injuries from debris as well as trauma to her head. She has to be in a healing pod for several days as a result.

Commander Ryven is inexplicably drawn to Kate and watches over her care while she is in the healing pod. He attempts to continue caring for her healing body after she exits the pod, but Kate distrusts not just the Zivonian aliens but also her fellow abducted Terrans.

Ryven and Kate share a similar past involving a family member. Sharing those events helps to bring them closer. Over the course of the story, there are twists and turns that keep you engaged, while world building the Zivonian milieu.

A great HEA with strong leads in Ryven and Kate. I definitely can’t wait until the third book is released!

This new series continued pretty good! Kate’s guard is going to be difficult for Ryven to tear down with her history of mistrust. It was intriguing to witness for her walls break and come crashing down.

But, it’s so great to read hesitation last a little longer than normal, especially with her background and his as well. Granted sex was involved, she never allowed that to interfere with her hesitancy. But, it was also intense once she finally decided to accept the bond.

The intensity of their chemistry at that moment of the bond finally “clicking” for her was a pivotal moment in the story! I had chills and tears all at once!! Amazing continuation of such an exciting adventure!!

But, I absolutely loved the second book of the series! The excitement of the fight with Kruuls to the overcoming their past obstacles of risk taking experiences! Kate was such a strong, stubborn woman struggling with trusting others while Ryven struggles with day to day tasks of putting his people first, especially since he never had a choice of becoming Commander. I was on edge the entire fight scene, especially when Kate sacrificed herself to protect everyone else. She showed her natural fighter instinct at that moment. I cannot wait to see Cassidy and Nyx!!

I loved this story. I really enjoyed this new series from the first book, and this one caught my interest from the very beginning. Kate is a Terran female who was kidnapped by alien smugglers along with other Terran women, but they were rescued when their ship crashed into The Oasis. Kate was very badly injured, but was healed over several days in a medical pod. The ship's captain was very kind and courteous, but she was still wary and distrustful. If there's anything she's learned is that there's a price for everything. Ryven is the captain of The Oasis. He welcomes all the Terran woman aboard his ship and has them under his and his crew's protection. Ryven is Zivonian warrior- whose people were all killed save the few on his ship. But there is still hope there might be some survivors somewhere out there. He is powerfully drawn to Kate, but a mate is the last thing he needs on top of the responsibilities on his shoulders. Kate is also very drawn to Ryven and can see he is kind, but keeps her walls up, wary of trusting aliens after what she's already been through. Wonderful characters. Great world building. An excellent sequel. I highly recommend picking up this book- as well as the first if you haven't read it. A wonderful new series. 5 stars.

Human Kate Had made some life choices that meant she has been to prison but then after she was released she was abducted by aliens. The ship she was a prisoner on crashed into another alien ship called the Oasis and then she made a split-second decision with almost cost her life. When she wakes up she is no longer a captive and the aliens whose ship she crashed landed on (the Zivonians) has rescued her and their leader Ryven says he wants to help and has offered her a safe haven on their ship. Her first thought is what is the catch in that arrangement and so she guards her heart and her trust with them carefully. But when she makes a mistake she has to face the consequences and the only person willing to stand up for her is their commander Ryven who looks like she is worth protecting - but will he feel that way when he discovers her past?

I was torn by this story. On the one hand, I enjoyed the tale of what she did at the point of the crash and how they were both starting to feel for each other, and part of me was really irritated with the way that she was dogged in her determination to not trust the aliens and treat them poorly as a result even though there was a fellow human who could help her understand about them. Easy to read. Contains explicit sexual content.

Prickly Terran meets Patient Commander.

Kate is a heartsore woman abducted from Earth by slavers, at a low point in her life. Ryven by necessity, is a commander of a large vessel floating through space, housing the last of his race to avoid enemy detection. They first meet after Ryvan finds Kate impaled, after saving another woman after the ship they were abducted on, crashes into the Zivonian spaceship.

I appreciated Ryvan’s supportive and protective persona and how his bond with Kate allowed her to bloom as an individual. I liked reading about her journey of self-acceptance and trust. Kate’s prickly personality at times was extremely frustrating, however her inability to trust and open her heart freely was conveyed well. I honestly loved their interactions and the desire and intimacy between the two was delivered well.

I gave this book 4 stars. There was a bit too many sex scene vs plot, when I felt there could have been more action (this is a personal preference). However, the book felt more of a journey about self-discovery and acceptance, which was quite nice to read. Congratulations on another wonderful book. I keenly look forward to the next in the series.

Love means hope

Kate lost her sister to cancer and herself as she stole to pay her medical expenses. She's abducted and imprisoned with other Terran women on the alien ship which crashes into the Oasis, the Zivonian ship commanded by Ryven. Kate doesn't trust her fellow humans much less Ryven or his fellow aliens. Ryven offers the Terrans sanctuary. After sparing Kate from a harsh punishment, he confines her to his quarters. Their time together culminates in the appearance of the soul mark showing they are mates. Ryven's actions allow Kate to feel hope and loved. Ryven realizes Kate also gives him hope and the importance of not just surviving but living. Zivonians are passionate and energetic lovers as well as formidable warriors - Ryven is no exception. Another solid entry in this spinoff series.

I have to admit that at first I really wasn't a fan of Kate but the longer I read, the more I came to like and understand her. Ryven, on the other hand, I liked from the first meeting. This book brought me all of the feels. It really does have it all..action, romance, drama, a few giggles, sexy times and a HEA. This series is quickly becoming a favorite and I know I will be waiting impatiently for each new book.  Presley Hall is a first rate writer who draws you into her world so tightly that you never want to leave. She has away of writing the characters and world the you believe them and want to stay a visit awhile. Definitely worth reading.

I was given an ARC of this book for a fair and honest review

Protected by the Alien Commander

Ryvan notices Kate right away, not just because she has serious injuries. They have both suffered from losses but she has also been abandoned and ignored. She saved one of the other Terran women in the hold on the slave ship almost at her own peril. She and Ryvan discovered they are mates and with much encouragement she accepts the mate bond. The Divine and fight off an attack with the Kruul, helped by Kate causing an explosion, killing many of them and saving the women almost dying from the blast. After she heals Ryvan makes an announcement that they are done running from the Kruul and will begin searching for a planet to settle down on. They've not found her yet but they have picked up a stow away

Skimmed a lot, repeat of world building as the main characters didn't interact with or learn from the secondary characters experience.

Not a complex storyline. He wants her, she doesn't want to trust anyone, for reasons (previous fmc had same issue), she is a thief (previous fmc was a thief). This was one big deja vu, it didn't build on the knowledge from the previous book and there was no exploration of all the new characters introduced.

They got together and it would be look a door let's f*@k, look a bed let's f*@k, look eating let's f*@k, empty room let's f*@k, you growled let's f*@k, you made a speech let's f*@k, you're on deaths door let's f*@k etc. It wasn't even very imaginative f*@king!

The story stayed with me after reading this. The FMC was frustrating at the start, making me want to stop reading the book but I kept on reading and glad that I did so. The story progresses and describes how our FMC changed. I am glad that the Kate at the start is not the Kate at the end of the story. She has grown a lot throughout the story and i'ts all because of our dear Alien Commander.

But of course, the story is not fully a romantic story. There is danger, action, a bit of suspense and it will make you feel their loss, their grief, their anger and their happiness and hope.

I loved the similarity of this book, but really enjoyed the difference of it. Ryvan has spent so many years taking care of everyone else. I loved how he would put everyone else first, and finally to his exhaustion. I enjoyed how their story had so many same things happen to each other, just in different ways. Their story was different, but really showed their growths. They both were able to change, and grow more into the people they wanted to be, not just stay static. Presley is a spot on author. She knows how to connect us to a world we know nothing about, letting us feel we can part of it to!

So, what can happen when two broken souls happen to meet for the first time? Oh, I don't know instant attraction? So, Commander Ryven can't keep his eyes off of Kate. He's soul instantly recognizes her as his fated mate. He's people are being hunted by the Kruul and will do anything to get to them. But, they will not stand down without a fight. Anyways, there is trouble a foot, Kate came to the shipped hurt along with some other women. Kate doesn't know if she deserves to be with this group since the memories of her past. Can Commander Ryven and Kate work together to bridge their past hurts to work as a team? Will Kate learn to trust others?

Protected By The Alien Commander

This is the story of Ryven and Kate. The romance storyline is good. The characters were developed well. All in all your typical alien and earth girl story. Earth girl is kidnapped to be sold later on. Kidnappers crash into Zivonian spaceship. Zivonians rescue earth girls and invite them onto their spaceship. Alien and earth girl fall in love. Of course there is other action onboard. But, the storyline is getting a bit old. There is romance in the story. There are sexual scenes that may offend some readers.

This was a nice second installment to the series. Kate struggles with her past and feeling connected to any group. Ryven wants to lead his people but realizes that life isn’t worth living as it stands. The romance was sweet and the bedroom scenes were delightfully steamy but, Kate isn’t my favorite character. I don’t relate to her as much so not in my top five but, I did really like Ryven and enjoyed his perspective in this story.

Surviving versus Living

After looking forward to the release of Book 2 in the Warrior Mates of Zivon, it was disappointing, at least the first fifty percent was. The beginning of the book was boring. The heroine, Kate, was a whine, whine - I had to steal on earth to help my sister….
The second half of the book is much better. Kate transforms into a likable action heroine with plenty of adventures, hot sex, and better self esteem.

redemption

Loved the fact she was a convicted criminal and not wrongly in prison. Her character development was enriched in showing her progression.

Glad about change in the commanders thinking for his peoples future. Did not make sense to just drift. I would have contacted earth and tried to become their “protector in turn for opportunity to settle on earth, in a jungle like island, etc. sharing technology to help planet.

The newest Warrior Mates of Zivon romance by Presley Hall is a wonderful transition into the wider world of The Oasis! Ryven and Kate’s love story is a classic fated mates romance, and I enjoyed seeing both main characters evolve as they came to accept their bond and the challenges they encountered. Another sizzling success!
