He's gone, and the worst part is, I don't if he's dead or alive.
I dealt with the curse. I picked my side. The hellish nightmare that I woke up to when I discovered I was a Watcher should be over, but it's not. Weeks have passed with no sign of Gage and I can't seem to move on, but a war is brewing and wallowing is no longer an option. With the ruler of the Netherworld after me, my new mission not only affects one realm, but all of them.

I was a little bit disappointed by this book. I REALLY liked the first book. Then, for some reason, this book just started hitting me the wrong way. I don't know if I just didn't notice it in the first book, or if it wasn't as bad, but this book became SO high school "ish" that it really began to bother me.
I liked the female MC Tatum in the first book. Yes, I thought her "insta-love" crush on Gage was a bit much, but it didn't bother me that much. Now, in this book, it was like the female MC regressed and not only was her behaviour extremely immature, but she also became pretty impatient and started acting in ways that got the people around her hurt. The thoughts in her head of "oh my gosh, he said he's my boyfriend...." and "is he going to kiss me again?" (I'm paraphrasing, but you get the gist) just got more and more annoying.
She constantly left the safety of the compound and because of that, her friends (or team) ended up following her to make sure she didn't get hurt. Unfortunately, that just put them all in the bullseye for the demons that were trying to capture Tatum. There were times when I just wanted to smack my head against the wall because it really felt like she was trying to make things worse.
After rereading this, it sounds like I didn't like the book. The problem is that I did. I just didn't like it as much as the first book. But I am interested in what is going to happen next, so I think that is the most important thing.
First of all, I'd like to say that I really wanted to like this book. I enjoyed the first one, even though it was on the immature side for me, and I did get frustrated by some of the mc's choices, I was still able to finish it.
This book, however, I could not finish. There was no substance, no depth, no true conflict or character growth. The book was full of "telling" and little to no "showing." Don't just tell me the mc is worried or nervous, show me. Describe how the character is feeling. Are they shuffling their feet? Picking at their cuticles? Are their eyes bouncing around the room? Describe what's happening around them so that I can draw my own conclusions. I want to FEEL what the characters are feeling. Make me care so that I can root for them, cry with them, have my heart broken along side them; but no, this book was full of short-sighted sentences that kept me from being immersed in the story. I was bored. What little connection I was able to form with characters from the first book was completely severed in the first two chapters of this book.
And the plot holes, my goodness! So many questions! I kept asking Why? How? When? Where?
-Why was no one questioning any of Tatum's decisions? How could anyone be comfortable with a young girl camping out in the most sacred building on campus? And for no other reason than to wait around for a guy she has a crush on. I would think some people would believe it to be offensive and/or distasteful behavior. Also, there are guards stationed around the building 24/7 yet no one stopped her? Why? -How was everyone okay with Tatum running around and putting everyone in danger? On her first mission, a level 10 demon straight up tells her they walked into a trap, and the demon kills one of their team members, yet Tatum is free to leave campus with only 1 bodyguard, and she still goes on the next mission? No one draws the conclusion that maybe it would make more sense to keep her on campus where she'll be safer and she can continue her training? -And when did Tatum master her magic and fighting skills enough to be allowed to join teams who have been training their entire lives to fight demons in the first place? She had no idea demons even existed until a month ago, yet she somehow mastered her magic with no real in-depth training, and was able to wield weapons after only a month? Really? -Why would Aurelia, the most powerful Lumen before Tatum, (who's also in charge of the school? Really?), be comfortable with any of that in the first place? A kid DIED, and yet she didn't stop Tatum. How was she able to keep her leadership role after that? -How did Aurelia become the person in charge anyway? Where are the people who trained her? Did she have a mentor? -Who's in charge when Aurelia goes off on her own missions? How does she have time for it anyway? How can you run an entire school, have a family, go off on missions and somehow have time to personally train another student? Does the woman sleep at all? -How could a school created by angels centuries ago, meant to train and produce soldiers to protect earth from demons, not have military policies and/or procedures already in place? Why are they sending out the students who are still taking classes? Where are their task forces? Where are the rest of the students parents? Why aren't they fighting the demons too?
I just don't understand, and I'm frustrated because I truly wanted to like this story. There's a lot of potential here, but the writing is subpar at best. I won't be continuing this series.

This book picks up two weeks after the end of book one. Gage is still missing through the portal, and Tatum is waiting around for him to come back. A lot gets uncovered in this book, and it is pretty much non-stop action, but damn are the MC's decisions annoying! She'll get a prophetic person warn her not to do something, she'd do it anyway, then be all “woe is me, how could I possibly know this would happen? I would have made a different decision if I knew.” And like... she did? Literally gets told someone will die if she tries to contact her mum but doesn't believe them and just kind of says 'oh well'. Then they give a speech about the person dying for a good cause... and it was basically a phone call where nothing important or lifesaving is revealed. It just didn't make any sense. It's still written very young, despite the more adult themes. Lots of telling and overuse of exclamation points, which I find tends to make everything seem like it's for a younger audience. This time it doesn't end on a cliff hanger, but does still have big end reveals.
“I took care of the bodies,” was all she said, and Gage nodded. Friendship goals.
Gage you worried me sick. You worry me still. My heart can’t handle this. You go make it right Tatum. You make this OK because I. Can’t. Handle. This. That father of yours needs to be taught a lesson. 🤬 And talking about Tate. Her growth was just the best! She’s always been a super badäss heroine but this book was hers to shine. Ghosts and all 😜 I’m still totally partial to Dash and Indigo is still my fave of the supporting cast… what can I say, I like all things dark 👀 This one sure didn’t suffer from Book 2 syndrome, with its fast pace and awesome action keeping me on my toes!! And my heart skipping way too many beats. Let’s go free some souls 😎 YA. 4.5 stars ⭐️
BASIC INFORMATION: Pages: 380 My rating: 3.5 rounded up to 4 Genre: urban fantasy, Not RH Themes: Angels, Demons, Shades, Lumen, the good fighting against the bad Protagonist Ages: FMC 18 Pacing: Medium Plot: rating: 3.5 stars, story is plot driven
This is one of the series, where I would say, if you like Leia Stone’s Series, you will like this series. It is a quick read and entertaining. I enjoyed reading it and I will read the last book after finishing this review.
The Characters: Names and descriptions of the persons
Oh no! The man I barely know but somehow love with all my heart for some reason that I can’t explain is probably hurt so I’ll draw him out by doing something incredibly dangerous so he reveals himself while hurt so he can possibly get hurt some more because of my self centered nature and pig headed need to disregard common sense.
What the ever loving…I wanted to like this series. I was almost rooting for it. But this? This is tedious. The melodrama. The characters are not likable. I guess a pre-teen might squee about this book and giggle. But cmon. Even a preteen would have more brains than to be so big of an idiot. Sure. Let’s get more people slaughtered by demons. Mmm kay.
This story gave me the feels. Tatum seems so lost without Gage and finally her wish too see him comes true. Tatum and the gang have one mission too rescue her mom and of course their is hiccups along the way. This story & characters will definitely have you glued too your kindle. Can’t wait too read what happens next.
Shadow Angel: Book Two by Leia Stone and Julie Hall Rating: 4.5/5
This epic story continues after that crazy cliffhanger from Book One! You definitely should read the first book in the series because it's awesome and this story picks up right where Book One left off. This author duo is great at action and high stakes suspense. They aren't afraid to break our hearts and then give them back.
First, the cover is gorgeous (as always) and deserves to be seen in person (I will be ordering the special hardback when available). What book cover lover won't want the special edition? ;)
Second, the story continues with a new character that is amazing and powerful and I want to know more! Yes, I'm talking about Aurum and you'll be talking about Aurum too.
Third, the sweet love story between the main characters continues to make readers swoon and sigh in awe. There are definitely some very romantic moments in the midst of all the action.
Fourth, that ending! I won't say more but come on! You'll just have to read the series to find out.
I cannot wait to read what comes next and am excited to delve into this fantastic world again.
PG-13 content - some swear words.
Highly recommend if you enjoy stories about light and dark and the characters who fall in love against all odds.
My thanks to the authors for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.
I wasn’t expecting this to go the way it did, and I feel like it didn’t hit as well as the first. I still enjoyed the story, and the plot is great, but I feel like there was something missing.
Tatum for some reason also just annoyed me most of the book and I really wanted to reach in and shake her or something cause my lord was she driving me crazy. I was curious to see the direction the authors were going with Gage also and I still don’t fully get the full picture yet or at least I’m hoping its not the full picture and we are going to get a twist in the next book where he is concerned. Otherwise, I’m enjoying the story its just not as great as the first book.
I’m enjoying the world we are in and learning and discovering more about it but otherwise that’s where my excitement ends. I’m really hoping that book 3 delivers more excitement and adventure as well as something shocking. I hope the series ends with a bang because this book wasn’t as good as the first. Still a good read don’t get me wrong, but I just found it lacking compared to the first as well as the pet peeves the main character had me focused on.
This book left me wanting to get to the next book as quickly as possible. I listened to this book on audible.
This book was actually gifted to me when I basically ranted to everyone I know about how much I loved the first book. This book was just as amazing as the first.
There are new challenges arising for Tatum and she learns something detrimental to her mission has happened and now she has to find a way to fix it, but then she realizes even more that she had never known, and her task is larger than she thought as an all out war between demons lumins and shades breaks out.
I'm enjoying the series but this book felt different than the first one. In book one she was all about choosing Lumen to help people but in book two she is selfish.
The part when her mom tells her not to break the chains or Apollyon would be unstoppable, but she does it anyway because "I just wanted my mother back". I was like WHY DON'T YOU THINK?? Your mother sacrificed herself for 18 years just for you to set the bad guy free because you wanted your mommy???

(4.5/5) im acc eating this shit up so fast oml. GAGE AND TATE #1 COUPLE TO EVER EXIST. but that ending was just a load of bs. u cant hurt me like this come on😔😔
— I’m just so disappointed. The main character went into a complete character UNdevelopment. Her immaturity started to truly get to me and normally I expect a bit from this type of mcs but it started to truly annoy me. Where’s the girl who worked and took care of her grandmother and could think rationally? Tate started to ignore warnings and be pretty self-absorbed in critical moments.
— It truly disappointed me how she acted around Gage to a point where I questioned why did he even liked her! He has been through the most traumatic experiences throughout this whole book, like TRULY traumatic and every time he would slightly open up Tate would just stay quiet bc she “didn’t know what to say,” and she legit just said “I’m beat” so they didn’t have to talk about it anymore. Girl…. And when she would fight him because of their romantic relationship for the most immature reasons at times when everyone was in danger and legit she had NO right to act that way. . . .
SPOILERS✨✨
Gage killed his father to save her and she had the audacity to YELL at him that he ripped his father throat like a beast. Like omg? Don’t you love this man? She’s upset then that he doesn’t open up about things when the dude grew up alone and doesn’t even know how to and needs time to process that 1. His dad tried to kill him 2. He went to Avalon and they removed his powers and now from the most powerful Shade he became a human 3. He tried to save her and got bitten by a hell hound and might become one permanently 4. Kills his father after he YET again stabbed him and wants him dead. And this girl truly just cares about him being a good boyfriend for her. I’m just…….. I can’t.
I read book 1 and thought okay...not bad then I read book 2 and I lost all hope. Tatum's personality just became progressively worse. Her immaturity and insensitivity was the reason I almost stopped reading so many times. The worse scene of all....having a relationship argument in the the middle of the Netherworld while on a mission to save your mom and oh let's not forget that fact that your friends are lost in the Netherworld as well. And yet she chose that moment to argue? Also her mom told her repeatedly that she couldn't leave the Netherworld to keep Apollyon weakened and she still took her mom.. I just don't get it. She could've easily just done what the Archangel told her to do and killed him yet she decided to use all her power to cut her moms chains intead??? Make it make sense. Immature at its finest Ugh I'm almost depressed to even read the 3rd book 🤦🏾♀️
More Reveals and Shocks Await!😇💥 Shadow Angel: Book Two
I devoured book #1 and thoroughly enjoyed it, I didn't get as swept away by book #2 unfortunately!
I found Tatum to be pretty self centered and self absorbed throughout this entire book. I didn't like reading about her with those characteristics! So although there was a lot of character growth for Gage and Dash as well as huge changes for Skye and Indigo, I couldn't immerse myself fully because I was too busy being annoyed by Tatum.😕
There genuinely is a good amount of story & character growth with superb twists, shocks and reveals included. The world expands further, which was interesting! I can't help wishing it was Drea that got a lot of these powers though, I feel like she'd grateful and be a complete bad@ss!🌟
I can't really say why I didn't care for this book. Just that I kept putting it down and reading other books. Almost a DNF, I did finish. It ends with lots of intrigue, I guess the characters are too immature for me and that clouded the enjoyment of an academy book.
I always feel like the 1st book is Leia Stones books are really good. Book 2 always feels like it's written by a completely different person. It's so weird. I know there are two authors sometimes so maybe that's how it goes to crap.
What happened? Liked the first book and then the 2nd tanked and I felt like I was reading a tween book. The main character turned very immature in this book. No thanks.
Wow. Talk about a non-stop action ride! My mind is still reeling from all the events that happened in this book, along with all the info that we just learned. #mindblown I must admit I was a bit reluctant to start this sequel since, even though I did want to find out how things kept going after that cliffhanger, starting a book with main characters/couple separated is one of my least favorite parts. Still, I'm glad it didn't take long for Gage to make his (re) appearance, though it was clear things weren't going to be as easy peasy as we (and Tatum) would like them to be (when are things easy in these books? Ha). Anyway, there are some shocking deaths, some fun and intriguing additions, newly revealed or more fully developed powers for Tatum (#ghosts #England), and some really tough decisions to make, all while having the best support group/found family/gang one could ever wish for (I loved understanding more of Dash's background).
Vanessa continues to nail pretty much every single character and every single shred of emotion each of them goes through. Seriously, from shock to wanting to strangle someone, to being worried, to fear, to husky tones, and everything in between, her performance is really, really good.
Overall, a fast-paced, action-packed, swoony sequel that will both satisfy readers and leave them wanting the next installment as soon as they finish this one. ~ 4.5 stars
Content: Sex: None. There are a handful of steamy kisses with tongues mentioned but nothing further. There's also mention of male characters without shirts on, and a scene where one girl is ogling a guy's backside and another agrees with her. Language: yes. Mostly d*mns, and b*st*rd. Violence: yes (it's Paranormal Urban Fantasy). Other: mentions different realms, where one of them is Purgatory.
SYNOPSIS (of Trilogy): The FC is a waitress in a diner when she starts to see things, demons. She then discovers that she is an angel Guardian and at the age of 18 such guardians must choose between light and shadow. Usually those who will be guardians know from birth but the FC only finds out a week before she must make the choice. The confusion over her choice is compounded by discovering that her grandmother had been cursed by the shades in order to force her to choose shade over light. It further transpires that the FC is the daughter of the fallen angel that created the shades and who has been battling the light for hundreds of years. He wants to take her so that she can free him from hell where he has been forced to remain. The story arc covers the development of the FC’s relationship with the MC, a tortured shade guardian and how she grows into her new powers in order to save the world from the dark and her father.
Heat Level: 🌶️🌶️/🍆🍆 The heat picks up in the later books but is low level, well written but does not take over the story. It is all pretty vanilla but hot.
The trilogy is well written and the story is enjoyable with sufficient action and drama to keep it moving ahead and retaining the reader’s interest. There’s some violence (not graphic or OTT), drama and angst with plenty of fight scenes an action.
The FC is strong and kick ass with a likeable dark, angst driven MC. If you can get over the insta love from the FC’s side in respect of the MC (they spent maybe 24 hours together and apparently the FC was suddenly deeply in love) there was a good relationship building between the FC/MC as the story got going. The worldbuilding is strong and detailed with good development of the secondary characters and each of their relationships. They added good depth to the story.
The fact that the MC seemed to always be getting hurt or something happening to him was a bit frustrating and the friendships were a bit “insta friend” especially when it came to Indy who the FC met for all of 5 minutes but immediately became besties with. Each book ends on a cliffhanger of sorts which are resolved in the following book.
Overall an enjoyable read with plenty of action and a bit of heat.
Highly anticipated sequel to a great young adult series. Book 1 is spectacular, but Book 2 is phenomenal. Action, suspense, and angst driven plot with a wonderous imaginative world filled with demons and angels. The lumens and shades. No matter how dark you see yourself, there is always time to change. Book 2 starts where Book 1 left us. If that wasn't traumatic enough, tradegy struck right there in the first few chapters, creating a tone for the rest of the story. A feeling of deep anxiety stays with you. A wonderful roller coaster of emotions keeps you teethering on the precipice. Angel Gang has a warm, loving, supportive dynamic that gives you enough light heartness to endure the trail and turbulation of our main characters' experience. Tatum and Gage is one of my new favourite power couples. Yes, these wonderful authors put this reader through the ringer. I found this book unputdownable and already preordered book 3. It's been a hard fight so far, and I know we are in for even harsher twist and turns. Cliffhanger ending, do prepare as you are going to scream and curse at this book. Highly recommended. A must read.
