In this 2nd book in the 'Grilled Cheese Mysteries' series, restaurateur/amateur sleuth Carly Hale investigates the murder of a fellow restaurant owner.

*****

When thirtysomething Carly Hale's husband died in a tragic accident, she moved back to her hometown of Balsam Dell, Vermont and opened Carly's Grilled Cheese Eatery.

Carly's restaurant has become quite popular, and she now employs part-time server Suzanne Rivers.....

....... and grill cook/aspiring chef Grant Robinson.

Up until now Grant has also been working part-time at Sub-a-Dub-Sub, owned by Ferris Menard, but Grant recently reported Menard to the Board of Health and quit.

Grant is a creative cook, and he's helping Carly design her eatery's entry for the town's annual 'Halloween Scary-Licious Smorgasbord' competition, which is happening in two days. It's Carly's first time competing for the $500 cash prize, and her major rival is Ferris Menard, who's won for the past three years.

Unfortunately, Ferris Menard, who has a terrible temper, blames Carly for Grant's defection from Sub-a-Dub-Sub. Thus Menard storms into the Grilled Cheese Eatery, and booms, "Carly Hale. I heard about your little sabotage ploy. Well, it won't work - do you hear me?" Ferris goes on to suggest Carly knows nothing about cheese and yells, "You're a fraud, and I'm going to prove it."

Carly's boyfriend Ari Mitchell is present when Menard makes his threats, and Ari escorts the furious blustering man from the premises.

Following this brouhaha there's a glitch in the 'Halloween Scary-Licious Smorgasbord' contest, after which Menard is found dead his restaurant, with a boot print on his shirt and a knife in his chest.

Police Chief Fred Holloway leads the investigation into Menard's murder, and the clues point to Ari Mitchell as the perpetrator. Carly is determined to prove her beau is innocent, so she launches her own inquiries......though she knows it may be dangerous.

Menard was a difficult man with a reputation for mean tricks, so there are a number of suspects for his murder. These include:

Holly Dalrymple - Menard's biological daughter, who only recently met her dad....and might be an heir.

Tyler Huling - a hardware store manager who's rumored to be dating Holly.

Chip Foster - an employee of Balsam Dell Compost who was a victim of Menard's cruel prank in high school.

Steve Perlman - a teacher who was Menard's schoolmate as a teen, and has bad memories of the time.

Portia Fletcher - Menard's estranged wife, who's not mourning her husband's death.

In addition to investigating the homicide, Carly gets advice from her best friend Gina; visits with her mother Rhonda; meets her sister Norah's new boyfriend, who's dressed as a clown; shares Chinese food with her boyfriend Ari; chats with Grant about his future - which seems to be a toss-up between being a professional chef and a professional musician; walks her cute dog Havarti; and more.

This is a typical cozy mystery, where the amateur sleuth thinks the police can't catch the killer, but she can. Since Carly has no forensics (no fingerprints, no DNA, no phone records, no clues of any kind), all she does is go around asking questions, thinking she'll sniff out the killer.

At the climax, Carly does snag the murderer.....with some help from her friends.

I thought some plot points were unrealistic, but I like the story's setting, characters, and food. Some of the yummy sandwiches served at Carly's restaurant are Sweddar Weather (grilled swiss and cheddar on marble rye); Brie-ing on the Apples, Granny (brie and sliced apples with cherry relish); and Alvin's Panco Perfection (panko-and-parmesan coated tomatoes and cheddar).

This is a Cozy Mystery, and this is the second book in the Grilled Cheese Mysteries series. I have read and reviewed the first book in this series before picking this book up. I really love the characters in this book series, and this is a really good cozy mystery series. This book kept me guessing, and it also kept me wanting more. The ending was great, and I really enjoyed being with these characters again. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Poisoned Pen Press) or author (Linda Reilly) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

When Ferris Menard - owner of Sub-a-Dub-Sub in Balsam Dell, Vermont - stormed into Carly Hale's Grilled Cheese Eatery, full of abuse about Grant quitting his job, blaming Carly for enticing Grant to her shop, she was shocked. Her customers were embarrassed for Carly. Ferris' daughter Holly was mortified at her father. But when the Halloween food competition two days later, was concluded and there was an issue with the votes, Carly was puzzled. They'd never had a problem before.

Carly, Grant and Suzanne worked tirelessly in the eatery and when Suzanne twisted her ankle and needed time off, Carly and Grant tried to keep up with the rush. It wasn't long before they heard of Ferris' murder, found by Holly in the kitchen of his shop. When Carly's significant other, Ari, was taken in for questioning, Carly knew she and her best friend Gina needed to do some sleuth work. And even with the Chief ordering Carly to desist, she continued. Would the police find the killer or would Carly put herself in danger once again?

No Parm No Foul is the 2nd in the Grilled Cheese Mysteries by Linda Reilly and once again I thoroughly enjoyed it. Fun and entertaining, the elderly Evelyn Fitch was a wonderful character, the recipes are delightful and I'm looking forward to #3. Recommended.

With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.

It’s now autumn in Balsam Dell, Vermont, and Carly Hale’s grilled cheese business is booming. No Parm No Foulis the second book in Linda Reilly’s Grilled Cheese mystery series, and like the first book, Up to No Gouda, the culinary action is not the only excitement presented in this cozy mystery. If you read the series opener, you know that Carly has recently moved back to her hometown after a tragic accident took the life of her husband. Now she’s following her dream; she’s opened her own restaurant in a quaint former ice cream parlor space. She has two employees – Grant Robinson, a twenty-year-old with a magic touch when it comes to creating and preparing food. He’s helped come up with some of Carly’s Grilled Cheese Eatery’s most popular sandwiches, such as Sandwiches: Sweddar Weather (Swiss and Cheddar on marble rye), Farmhouse Cheddar Sleeps With Fishes (tuna melt on ciabatta), and Brie-no on the Apples, Granny. Grant’s ambition is to go to culinary school, but his parents will only pay for school if he studies music. He is a very talented cellist, and both parents are musicians. The career topic is causing friction between him and his dad.

The other employee is Suzanne Rivers, who is an excellent server. Unfortunately, Suzanne sprains her ankle just before the Halloween Scary-Licious Smorgasbord competition, which leaves Grant and Carly scrambling like mad. The author keeps things interesting while describing the preparations, costumes, and various townsfolk and acquaintances who stop by to chat. Since the first book, Ari Mitchell, an electrician who’d been frequenting the eatery, has now become Carly’s boyfriend. He becomes a central figure in this story. Carly’s business is new in town, so this is her first time entering the competition, and she’s eager to make a good impression. If she wins, it could really boost her business. She has an arch nemesis, unfortunately. Ferris Menard, owner of a sub shop, has a grievance against Carly, blaming her for something that is entirely not her fault. This leads to all sorts of “unfortunate” events. As readers of Gouda know, Carly cares about her customers and loved ones, and Carly cannot leave well enough alone when it comes to helping those she cares about.

Once again, Linda Reilly has cooked up one gooey, tasty story! It’s a cozy, but it’s well written, entertaining, and it kept me guessing until the final chapters. I found myself caring about the characters and scratching my head over who could possibly be responsible for the crime, while at the same time hoping that one or another didn’t do it! Sorry, my lips are sealed!

And I can’t wait to read the next one, Cheddar Late Than Dead.

No Parm No Foul was a good read.
I couldn't put it down, I had a great time keeping guessing who is the murderer.

We are back at the little village of Balsam Dell following Carly's new adventure.
The day after the Halloween culinary competition Carly's formidable opponent is murdered, when all the evidence points to someone near her she begins her own investigation to find the real culprit.

Linda Reilly wrote a well plotted mystery, the story is well paced, and every character is developped and not a mere appearance.

Take a chance and read this impromptu sleuth story, you will only regret it if you begin this book on an empty stomach because Carly's grilled cheese sandwiches are mouth watering.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for kindly giving me an advanced copy of this book to read.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Autumn in Vermont is perfect for a cup of soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. Carly Hale has a bit of competition, though, not just for her food but for an employee too. Ferris Menard gets on his high horse when he decides that Carly is the bain of his existence. One of his employees that had been working part-time for both Menard’s Sub-a-Dub-Sub Shop and Carly’s Grilled Cheese Eatery has decided to work full time for just Carly. He went so far as to publicly accuse Carly of sabotaging his business during the Halloween Scary-Licious Smorgasbord food competition.

When Menard’s daughter finds her father’s dead body the next morning in his shop’s kitchen with a steak knife plunged into his heart Carly knows she will be on the list of suspects, along with someone she cares about. It should be a long list though, the man had made plenty of enemies over the years but she can’t take any chances. Carly’s going to do her best to flip the real killer and fry them up in a pan before she sends them off to jail.

Carly has settled into her new life well. Her eatery has really taken off and she has great friends and employees that support her in everything she does. She is a strong protagonist but she may need to fine-tune her investigation techniques. One person tells her, “You know Carly, you’re about as subtle as a coronary.” Another tells her, “a careful driver like you is easy to tail.” But her heart is always in the right place she will do anything she can to help anyone. I love the direction her relationship with Ari is taking. And Havarti, Carly’s lovable Morkie always makes me smile.

Carly’s supporting cast is great too. Grant and Suzanne are wonderful employees that truly have become friends. Suzanne has a little accident in this story that put her out of commission for a while but that made for some interesting temporary employees. I will say my favorite character in No Parm, No Foul was retired teacher, Evelyn Fitch. She is a regular at Carly’s Eatery and she really is a special lady who plays a major role in the mystery.

The mystery had as many tangles as a Halloween cobweb with a lot of evidence pointed in one direction. It is clearly a frame-up. Carly gets clues from some unusual sources. One who uses poetry to help her get on the right track. She does get frustrated but doesn’t give up. I was totally engaged following along with her step by step. There were some really nice twists and that meant my jaw dropped when the killer was outed during a scary and exciting reveal.

This second Grilled Cheese Mystery, No Parm, No Foul, is an excellent addition to this series. I do suggest having a cup of tomato soup and a grilled cheese handy as your start reading because the cravings start almost immediately. There are a couple of recipes at the end of the book you are going to want to try too.

Engaging characters, a fun mystery, and a cheesy-filled story will have you coming back for more. Cheddar Late Than Dead will be released on January 31, 2023.

“No Parm No Foul” is the 2nd instalment in A Grilled Cheese Mystery series by Linda Reilly set in the town of Balsam Dell, Vermont. What a great follow up to book one! This is definitely one of my favourite series.

I like the Protagonist Carly, and her co-workers Grant and Suzanne they have such a tight bond and really care about each other. The characters are well developed and I look forward to seeing how Carly’s relationship with Ari progresses as well as other relationships in the book. I liked getting to know Evelyn Fitch the retired school teacher and one of Carly’s regulars as well.

The mystery was interesting and there are plenty of red herrings, and twists to keep you wanting to find out what will happen next.

I read the book in one day it was that good, You will crave a grilled cheese and tomato soup while reading the book. Luckily there are recipes at the back, I'm dying to try the Alvin’s Panko Perfection!

I cant wait for the third instalment. I highly recommend this to cozy lovers.

NO PARM, NO FOUL is the second book in the Grilled Cheese Mysteries by Linda Reilly. With the delectable setting of the Grilled Cheese Eatery during Halloween, the reader’s senses are in for a treat! Scrumptious food—check. Close-knit friends—check. A Scary-Licious food competition—check. A dead competitor that bodes ill for protagonist, Carly, and her friends—check. A missing vampire cape that might be a clue—check. Ms. Reilly weaves together a tale worthy of Halloween with characters and clues alike lending spirit to the holiday.

Despite the murder mystery genre, the author creates kind and caring core characters, particularly Carly. She’s one of those people you’d love to count as a friend with her trusting nature and her loyalty to those she cares about. Despite the short time that she’s been in Balsam Dell, Vermont, following the death of her husband, she’s managed to fit right in and her grilled cheese restaurant has developed quite the following amongst the young and the old alike. And, of course, who can resist her little Morkie, aptly named Havarti? The sweet dog has such a delightful personality that complements Carly’s character.

With clues surrounding the murder pointing to Carly’s love interest, Ari, being the culprit, Carly can’t help but get involved trying to figure out who wanted her restaurant’s competitor dead. I loved how the author uses one of Carly’s elderly regulars as a source for clues via the former teacher’s unique poetry. As someone who loves to learn, I appreciated the inclusion of the poetry and was even more impressed with the author’s skill at writing it to fit the needs of the mystery. As the pressure mounts to clear Ari’s name, there are many suspects who pop up. I was kept guessing as the clues unfolded and at the surprising reveal the pieces fell into place with a highly satisfying conclusion.

With a variety of grilled cheese sandwiches being served throughout the story, I’d suggest having one on hand every time you pick up the book. Ms. Reilly includes a couple of recipes at the back of the book and they sound fantastic.

I was provided with an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Carly Hale is excited to be able to participate in the Balsam Dell fall food festival for the first time. However, one of her other contestants is throwing a wet blanket on things. Ferris Menard owns a sub shop across the village square, and he has turned his temper on Carly. The festival ends with him creating a public scene. However, the next day, he is found dead in his shop. A clue at the scene points of Carly’s boyfriend. Can she find the truth?

I enjoyed meeting this cast of characters in the first book, and they were just as charming and fun to be with here. The plot was strong. I thought I had it figured out early, but I quickly realized I was wrong. There was one element that wasn’t really resolved, but I still understood the killer and motive just fine. I enjoyed the fall setting and could feel the crispness in the air. I also appreciated the cheesy puns, especially in the sandwiches that Carly serves in her restaurant. Speaking of which, we get recipes for two of them at the end. I already have the next in the series pre-ordered, and I’m looking forward to reading it.

Would it surprise anyone if I tell you that I simply had to have a grilled cheese sandwich while reading this one? Didn't think so. Any excuse for a grilled cheese for us grilled cheese fans works. In any case, between bites, I found the story intriguing if a bit bemusing at times. The red herrings seemed to come at us fast and furiously, pointing main character Carly and the rest to different suspects at different times. And, who knew a Halloween costume choice might place you directly on the police's radar for murder? Or that a local, seemingly frivolous competition between businesses for the right to call themselves the best eats could be so cut-throat? Fakes ballots? Confrontations? Anger? All for a plaque and prize that some felt they'd donate on to charity? Yep, that's right.

The morning after the festive gathering and competition, one of the competitors, the winner of the past three years, is found murdered. What does a partial footprint have to do with anything? When did Ari last see his boots and the generic Dracula cape? Could the figurine clutched in the victim's hand be a clue? Why didn't Carly report the vandalism to her vehicle? Should Carly be worried that the dead man's daughter wants to work for her temporarily? Why is the school board's efforts to cut its budget have to do with anything? Who'd harm sweet Evelyn? Why are the police watching Carly's home? Why.... oh, so many questions. Nope, not telling. You'll have to read the book for the answers to these and more, not to mention to find out what's in the future for talented musician/chef-wannabe Grant.

Thanks to #NetGalley and #PoisonedPenPress for inviting me over for a grilled cheese. It was fun to hang out with Carly and fun dog Havarti for awhile. Looking forward to more of their adventures. And keep those recipes coming!

This is the most delightful series. Reilly has created the perfect characters and setting to go along with plots that twist and turn and keep me guessing until the last page. No Parm No Foul is a cheesy mystery that you can sink your teeth into. When an obnoxious sub shop owner publicly berates Carly and soon after is found dead Carly's boyfriend becomes the #1 suspect. Carly is sure he has been set up and starts asking questions which quickly gets her in trouble too.

There are lots of suspects that will keep you guessing throughout the story but the feel-good ending was my favorite part. Thanks to Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for an ARC. The opinions expressed are my own.

This is such a cute and yummy series. Carly’s Grilled Cheese Eatery sounds like a place that I would go to quite often. In addition to her dog, Havarti, she is surrounded by a great group of supporting characters. The descriptions of the various grilled cheese sandwiches will absolutely make your mouth water. Carly can’t help but investigate when another murder takes place in Balsam Dell, especially when her beau Ari is being framed. As with the first book, I found it really enjoyable and hard to put down. I highly recommend checking out this series and can’t wait for the next book.

No Parm, No Foul is the 2nd book in the Grilled Cheese Cozy Mystery series by Linda Reilly.
This is such a great book and set during Halloween, this was so awesome fall being my favorite season.

I LOVED the first book in the series Up to No Gouda and was so excited to read this book.

I live in New England so it was fun to see Vermont as a setting.

Carly Hale, the protagonist is a well written, fun character, who is relatable and likeable.

The murder mystery was perfectly paced and plotted with no shortage of suspects.

I was surprised when the killer was revealed.

You will definitely want to eat a grilled cheese after reading this fantastic cozy mystery.

Can't wait for the next book int he series.

Foodies, especially cheese lovers, will enjoy this series. I love the protagonist Carly, and her co-workers Grant and Suzanne. Carly's relationship with Ari as well as other relationships in the book promise to be fascinating. This book is so good that I read it in a day. You will crave grilled cheese and tomato soup while you read it. For me, Halloween food competitions are perfect cozy mysteries.

I look forward to seeing the series continue and reading the next book. Throughout the book, I wasn't able to guess who the murderer was--and that kept me hooked, because the book kept me on edge. I am grateful for the advance reader copy of this book provided by Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley.

No Parm, No Foul is the second book in this cozy mystery series set in Vermont. Carly’s Grilled Cheese Eatery is still fairly new in town but has become quite popular. I really enjoyed the first book in this series, but I found this one a bit less engaging. Perhaps I’ve just grown a bit tired of the typical female amateur sleuth, who puts herself in danger by being way too nosy?

The owner of a nearby sub sandwich shop comes into Carly’s restaurant and loudly accuses her of encouraging her valued part-time helper, Grant, to quit his work at the sub shop. He becomes quite abusive and when he is found murdered, Carly seems to be an initial suspect. But then her love interest, Ari, falls under suspicion and Carly decides to put her sleuthing into high gear. (This reason for investigating is quite similar to her reason in the first book, when an employee was the police’s main suspect.) In this book, Carly seems a bit abrasive, a bit too direct in questioning all the people she considers as suspects. She is even warned by her friends to let the police handle the investigation.

I did still really like the setting and the restaurant, with its creative grilled cheese options (grilled cheese is one of my favorite foods), as well as the recurring side characters, such as Grant and her friend Gina. We get to know Ari a bit more in this book too. The mystery was pretty good, including a related but separate mystery revolving around some ballot stuffing for a local food contest.

I’d like to see where this series goes - will Carly find a different reason to play detective in the future?

Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the opportunity to read an advance readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed this story because the town and its residents are so loveable; it's a truly cozy setting. The mystery definitely kept me guessing until the very end and the writing is easy to read and flows well. Where this story lost points is in the way Carly badgers the suspects. I get that she was feeling the pressure of clearing her boyfriend's name but she was so abrasive and unlikeable that it was a real chore to get through these sections. Also, we're all adults, even if it is a cozy mystery, you don't have to spell out derogatory words; it seemed a little childish and it's hard to take a sleuth who's investigating murder seriously if you can't deal with a little language. Otherwise, this was an entertaining story and I look forward to the next.

Carly Hale has returned to her hometown of Balsam Dell, Vermont and has opened Carly's Grilled Cheese Eatery. She is doing well selling her cheesy treats and the Halloween food competition is on the horizon bringing with it more opportunities. Ferris Menard owns Sub-a-Dub-Sub, a sandwich shop and one of Carly's employees worked for Ferris then quit. When Ferris is found dead, having been stabbed with a steak knife, Carly's boyfriend Abi is the prime suspect.

The continuation in a new series by Linda Reilly, this second instalment, No Parm No Foul follows "Up to No Gouda" and it has twists and turns to hold my interest. The storyline moves along swiftly and the characters are colourful. The star of the show is the scruffy beige young dog, Havarti. I look forward to getting to know Carly et al. better in the upcoming books. The next one in this series is Cheddar Late Than Dead.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Poisoned Pen Press via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

I have such a hankering for an 'exotic' grilled cheese sandwich now! Just like the first novel, the scrumptious descriptions of Carly's (and Grant's) unique recipes have beguiled me. The cozy aspects in this story are just as intriguing as the mystery. And the way the two mesh together...hmmmm, perfection!

I enjoyed Mia Gaskin's performance as narrator. Definitely a series I will continue with in audio format now.

The second volume in the Grilled Cheese Mysteries series is just as fun as the first! Carly Hale is eager for the town of Balsam Dell's autumn food competition. Life is pretty good. Her restaurant has brisk business, and her romance with local election Ari has a positive zing to it. But when a cranky nearby restauranteur with a major grudge against Carly ends up dead, Ari is set up to be the main suspect. Carly goes into full-meddlesome mode to delve into past and present town drama to uncover who is truly at fault.

I love cheese, so the central conceit of the book delights me to no end. The mystery is good, too, loaded with twists and turns. The book has a great cozy vibe--no major violence, no cursing, just a mild romance. Balsam Dell is such a good murder village. I thought I had guessed the identity of the murderer, but I was wrong--and I love that, because the book kept me in suspense all the way through.

This was a good mystery that really keep me guessing. And while I LOVE the characters of Grant, Gina and Suzanne, Carly gets on my nerves. When she gets into sleuth mode and starts questioning those folks she perceives as suspects, she can get down right rude! And while she will sometimes apologize, she will then turn around and question another suspect in the exact same manner. Hopefully she will tone it down a bit in the next book. Which I am looking forward to reading since the plots in the first two books were very well done and kept my interest. What I do love about her character is the author actually has her WORKING in her place of business.. restaurant! A lot of the time. Moreso than in other cozy mysteries where the main character is ALWAYS out sleuthing and leaves others to pick up the slack at the store/bakery/restaurant etc. That was refreshing. And last but not least, I am in love with the loyal and wonderful furry sidekick Havarti! This series, of course, makes me want to hop off the couch and make a grilled cheese sandwich(with pickles and tomato/basil soup on the side)! Which leaves me feeling comfy cozy.

I really enjoyed this Halloween time visit to Vermont and Carly's grilled cheese eatery. I wish that place was real! I'm not much on fancy grilled cheeses, but I bet she still would make an awesome regular one! I loved sweet Evelyn's character and how she played a part in Carly figuring out whodunit. I'm happy that in the first book Carly reconciled with Gina and now they were the best of buddies especially when it came to sharing sleuthing secrets or tossing around case ideas.

There were a lot of possible suspects and I wasn't sure until one clue stuck out then more started coming. The showdown was pretty exciting and help came from a super unlikely source, wait'll you read about that, it's pretty cool.

I'm really happy with where Carly and Ari are in their relationship especially at the end of the book! That makes me wish another book wasn't a year away, but I guess I'll appreciate it a lot more if I have to wait. I've really come to think of these characters as old friends now and once again I'm so happy that a main character actually has a good relationship with her mom and the mom is equally nice to her daughter. Even Carly's stepdad's a sweetie! Till next time, Carly and Crew!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by Poisoned Pen Press via NetGalley, and my opinions are my own.

No Parm No Foul is the first book I've personally read in Linda Reilly's Grilled Cheese Mystery series, and I ended up loving it. I was appreciative that it pretty much reads like a stand alone, and that I didn't feel like I was truly missing out on anything by not having read the first title before this one.

I thought the plot and mystery were both well done and original, and there's a plethora of suspects that keep our protagonist Carly guessing over the course of the story. There's a touch of romance that I really enjoyed, and plenty of warm fuzzy moments with Carly's many family and friends, and other secondary characters like the regular customers who visit her grilled cheese eatery on a regular basis.

I really enjoyed the quick witted writing style, and I never found that the story dragged or grew uninteresting throughout the development of the mystery. Perhaps my favorite part of all was honestly the setting though. I tend to love cozy mysteries that are set during the fall or winter, as I think it adds another element to the ambience, and the fact that this one takes place over the time period surrounding Halloween just made it that much more atmospheric. I also loved how the setting is Carly's grilled cheese eatery, and I found my mouth watering over the amazing descriptive passages about the sandwiches she serves her customers.

The only downfall with this one for me personally was that I had figured out the majority of the mystery quite awhile before the final reveal. However, I think that was more just a lucky guess on my behalf, and I don't feel that the author wrote it in a way that was too easy to figure out what was going on.

Overall, I feel that I've now found a new favorite cozy mystery series and this is right up there with ones from Krista Davis, Barbara Ross, and Julie Anne Lindsey. I can't wait to go back and read the first book in the series, and to read future books to come.

Final Rating: 5/5.

I can't recommend this one enough!

This is the second book in this yummy, cozy mystery series about Carly Hale, her gourmet grilled cheese restaurant, Grilled Cheese Eatery, and Balsam Dell. When Suzanne, one of her employees has an accident and needs to take time off work, Carly is left in the lurch. Luckily for her, Grant has come on full time after quitting his job at the sub shop. Carly is going up against Ferris Menard, the owner of Sub-a-Dub Sub Shop in the Hallowe'en Food Contest, so he is furious that she poached his employee. He storms into her shop verbally abusing her, and embarrassing both Carly and his daughter Holly. Two days later at the competition, the ballots are questioned and the vote left up in the air. Who won the competition? The next morning, Holly finds Ferris dead in the sub shop with a footprint on his back, his heart medication on the floor just out of reach and a steak knife in his body. When Carly's beau, Ari, becomes the main suspect, she shifts into investigator mode to solve the crime and free Ari of suspicion.

I really enjoyed this cozy mystery with all it's talk of food, murder and friendship. The characters are wonderful in this story and there is a great mix of personal life and mystery. Evelyn Fitch, an elderly retired teacher was a great addition to this story. She was a regular customer, but was around much more this time around. She wrote daily poems to Carly praising her food and restaurant, that turn out to be clues to the murder. She is a sweet lady, who I hope will be around in other books. As the investigation unfolds, there are many suspects, several red herrings and clues that only point to the culprit when they are all put together. The mystery is well written and the plot moved along at a great pace. I am enjoying how Carly's and Ari's relationship is moving forward, and how they are always there to support one another. Grant's storyline with his father is further explored in this book and I look forward to seeing how it plays out in future installments in the series. No Parm No Foul is a fun, entertaining story with some great recipes at the end. I definitely recommend you read this book when you aren't hungry, but definitely pick this one up. I need to try the recipes included in these books, yum.

No Parm No Foul by Linda Reilly is a great culinary cozy mystery that is the second book in the adorable Grilled Cheese Mysteries series.

I really enjoyed the first book, Up To No Gouda, so of course I wanted to read the second one. I really like Carly Hale as the main character. She is realistic, likable, and has a cute and quaint shop.

I especially love the Vermont backdrop and the fall/Halloween theme and season. Anything that includes my favorite holiday is usually a win for me. I enjoyed its incorporation into the murder/mystery plot and the entire story kept me interested and engaged throughout. Plenty of suspects kept it fresh and intriguing, and I looked forward to finding out the culprit right along with Carly.

The Panko Perfection recipe sounds right up my alley!

I am looking forward to the next installment for sure.
