I didn't ask to be abducted by aliens, but the Hyperboreans took me anyway. Now, they've left me on the dying planet of Myste, indentured to the warden of a prison in the clouds.
And my captor? That's Calder, a former Skoll Warrior and the devil himself.
Calder is cold, cruel, and cranky, trapped on Myste by a curse laid on him centuries ago. He's made it clear that we aren't going to get along, but I see the hungry way his eyes roam over my curves, like he would love to devour me. And I can't say the feeling isn't mutual, as his hard muscles and broad shoulders don't go unnoticed.
I ache for his touch, but I won't let him break me down. I'm going to escape from this castle, whether he likes it or not.
CALDER
From the moment I saw her, I had to have her.
The headstrong, stubborn human enrages me, even as she leaves me hungry for her touch. I thought my heart had gone cold after centuries trapped on this planet, but she warms my skin until I burn.
Her touch is the only thing that eases the pain of my curse, and my desire for her grows stronger every day.
I know that she hates me, but I can feel the desire that tethers us to one another. I will have her, if it's the last thing I do.
WARLORD AND THE WAIF is an alien abduction romance. Fans of possessive, alpha heroes and headstrong heroines will love this steamy science fiction fairy tale.

This is a syfy retelling of Beauty and the Beast. It's a tale as old as time...lonely, desolate, cursed man gets revived, brought back to life, and set free by knowing and loving a stubborn, feisty woman.
Calder, is a Skoll warrior who's been cursed not only to stay and lord over Myste, unable to fight and raid, but also to suffer physical pain as the curse burns and cuts into his body. Getting worse and more excruciatingly painful as each year passes without the curse being broken. Then one day a new indentured servant being sold at the auction catches his eye. Calder doesn't know why but he's inextricably drawn to this fiery haired beauty who laughs at her captors. So he buys her contract.
Ella, a red haired fighter with the temper to match, is on her way to protest the Vietnam war when she wakes up on Myste about to be sold at an alien auction. She's overwhelmed by what's happening and how she got here, but she knows one thing: She's not going down without a fight.
I loved Ella and Calder's interplay. She's stubborn to the point of having no sense of self preservation sometimes, and yet her fight and fire breathes new life into Calder. Waking him up from the gloom his life of pain under the yoke of terrible masters had become. At the same time when Ella is near, she eases the unending pain he's been living with for centuries allowing him to feel other things again. Calder's drawn to her rebellious spirit, reminding him of the spirit of the Skoll warrior he used to be and yearns to be again.
This was steamy and sweet. Ella's fits of temper and stubbornness turns Calder on like nothing has ever before. She can't help being drawn to him by his magnetism and his honor. The fact that he doesn't force her allows her to trust him enough to submit willingly. As they grow closer, Ella and Calder fight to save the other from the sinister intentions of Myste's masters, and they fight with everything on the line for the chance at an HEA.
I enjoyed this one. There were times when I thought Ella's temper and smart mouth were about to get her straight up murdered lol. In this one, Calder "the beast" was showing more restraint then Ella. I did like the fact that as an alien with horns, Calder actually used his horns in 'interesting ways' which was a nice change of pace. I also loved the secondary characters. I can't wait to read Jack's story next.
Even though this is an ARC review, I will always shoot you straight. I received an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Great story, plenty of action to keep you invested in what happens to the characters. The storyline jumped on occasion, but I think the author was trying to stop the story from bogging down with too much information that wasn’t needed.
This is the first book in the Alpha Worlds series and features Ella and Calder. Ella is human and has been kidnapped by an alien race called the Hyperboreans. Left on the planet called Myste she finds herself the new servant of a former Skoll Warrior named Calder. While she may be a servant to Calder, he is also in servitude to a curse that has left him and his team stuck on Myste for centuries.
In such a predicament, Calder has become cold and grumpy as hell. He pretends he doesn't care for Ella, her touch doesn't soothe the pain he always feels and her fiery nature and busy mouth that has no filter doesn't make him want her to the point of distraction. Ella pretends that she wants nothing more than to leave Calder's dreadful castle and that she is not attracted to the hardened warrior.
Ella and Calder go toe-to-toe and it's only a matter of time before their brewing sexual tension brings both of them to their knees. Can Ella be the one to break Calder's curse and the chains that bind them? With so much at stake, will Ella and Calder get their happily ever after?
Beauty and the Beast is my favorite fairy tale and because of that, I don't read a lot of retellings. It took me about 25% in before I really got into it but Warlord and the Waif was surprisingly very good with a fresh twist on the classic story. I really liked Ella...she was resilient and strong and took no crap. I liked Calder a lot too and his interactions with Ella were so satisfying. The steam in here was on point and I appreciate that Parker set the stage for the next story. Overall, a solid Sci-Fi read with just the right amount of steam and adventure.
This was such a fabulous story! The world building was fantastic and the storyline super fast paced. I loved the salty, scarred hero and how he just couldn't help himself when it came to the heroine. I loved how the heroine, even though she was attracted to the hero, she definitely made him work for it and wouldn't compromise on her beliefs. Emotional growth for both of them which was awesome to see. The chemistry between the two of them was 🔥🔥🔥! Super excited to see more from this author!
I received an advanced copy of this book. I am freely and honestly reviewing it. I received no compensation.
This is so flawlessly done. The characters are completely believable. Fleshed out. Alive. The world Chloe built is richly described and I could imagine what it looked like. Parker completely wrapped me up in her creation. I'm sad and it will take me a little while to shake it off.
Calder is one of the top SFR males that I've read. And I'm a super reader. Ella is fabulous. She is fiery, feisty, sweet, and just insecure enough.
This is the first of Chloe Parker's works that I've read, and it is definitely not going to be the last. She's now on my 'stop what you're reading and devour this' list.
Oh to be an indentured waif to a massive, horned, alien warlord who has a consent fetish.
Hot and steamy the warlord does not disappoint. It’s been a while since I’ve read an easy erotica. Honestly sometimes you just need something where everything falls into place. I’m all for a slow burn, but the way these two fell on each other was delightful. The plot surrounding these two was very engaging and I’m excited to learn more about the world they live in. The Empire that seems to control the galaxy and the crew members I quickly fell in love with.
This galactic tale of love echoes of a story as old as time, "Beauty and the Beast",only the Beast is a space pirate and the beauty is a unsuspecting earth woman who is whisked away to a galaxy far far away where nothing is as it seems. Truly a unforgettable drama with equally memorable characters. Definitely a must read!
Some narrators should not try to emulate a voice of the opposite sex. This man sounded like your cousin Bob mocking the way you talk to his friends. I cannot take a story seriously when one person sounds like a petulant bully.
More than just a moment The author did a fantastic job of combining SciFi and Fairytale in this book! I don't usually read the storybook retelling stories, but when I do Beauty and the Beast has always been one of my favorites. I think it is the library. And what a library this story has, but then there are also pirates, aliens, cyborgs, enemy races, and of course, a fearsome beast who is really no more then a gorgeous enslaved man. I love how the characters mindsets changed throughout the story, especially when a certain waif had a midnight epiphany. The author kept the intensity high with the danger, action and of course those heated moments we love so much. This was a fantastic weekend read and I highly recommend that you grab a copy for yourself. I can't wait to see what excitement the author sends my way next.
Warlord and the Waif is a unique and interesting take on the Beauty and the Beast trope with a unique sci-fi/steampunky twist
***** Rating: 4 stars Steam: 3 flames Genre: Sci-fi / Alien Romance ***** What do you get when you have an abducted human female, an alpha Warlord with a curse, and sexual tension that is off the charts? Warlord and the Waif... that's what!
Calder and his crew of space pirates have been trapped on the planet Myste for centuries, carrying out missions for the evil Hyperboreans in the hopes of discovering a cure for the terrible curse placed upon him. He is a growly, dominant, angry space pirate who yearns for the day when he can leave Myste behind and experience the freedom of space again.
Ella has been abducted by the Hyperborean’s and transported to Myste to be used and sold the highest bidder. She is on the auction block when Lucien, Calder’s butler, makes a bid no one else can top. Looks like Calder’s castle is going to get another servant. Ella is obstinate and opinionated and instantly gets under Calder’s skin. Sometimes you can’t tell if Calder and Ella are fighting or if it's just their form of foreplay.
Warlord and the Waif is a steamy, easy to read, engaging story with great world building and characters. Even though I knew this was a twist on Beauty and the Beast, it was filled with interesting twists on a tale as old as time. (see what I did there?)
After reading Warlord and Waif, I am now anxiously awaiting Jack’s book, Galactic Tides. I am so glad I gave a “new to me” author a chance and Chloe Parker has found a new fan in me! Warlord and the Waif get’s my recommendation!
A well executed re-telling of beauty and the beast.... Chole the author made sure she got all the important parts of the tale put down with in this novel...which made it a delight to read. Some parts i felt were not clear enough to me what was going on, but it does not matter in the slightest. Liked the characters as well as the plot "which is as old as time".
This book was beauty and the beast done wrong. This was a mashup of sci-fi, fantasy, steampunk erotica. The dialogue was juvenile and characters unlikable.
I didn’t like her. She’s supposed to be fiery and feisty, but I only saw a very rude and willful woman without an ounce of empathy. She never stopped to think what her actions would cause, not only for her, but for the people around her. She was very selfish. There was no chemistry, mostly because the moments where we should have seen the supposed “passion” were narrated to us instead of shown. There’s a time jump of two to three weeks (I think, the exact amount of time seems to vary within chapters), where we’re told they banter, and argue, and yell at each other (why yelling and arguing could be romantic is beyond me), about what, you ask? We’re not privy to that. Another thing was that time seemed to change between chapters. Not only the time jump of two, maybe three weeks seemed to change, the amount of time Calder had been cursed changed between 500 years when Portia mentions it to Ella at the beginning, to 400 when Ella is later reflecting on it, to 600 when Calder thinks about it. There are other minor inconsistencies as well. The end felt very rushed, plans seemed to change at the drop of a hat, but everyone knew about the changes as if that had been the plan from the beginning. The bad guys suddenly have psychic powers we weren’t told about before (this at 70-something percent), and yet they’re incredibly easy to defeat. Finally, the world felt underpopulated. For the majority of the story, there’s only Calder, Lucien, Portia and Ella (though most of the time it's just Calder and Ella). Supposedly, there are 60 Hyper-something in the delegation of bad guys, but we only see one. And suddenly there are hundreds of people fighting to get off the planet. Which still felt underpopulated, since this is supposedly a thriving mining operation, and having slaves (sorry, indentured) they would also need guards to keep the people in line, plus the minimum people necessary to keep a city running. Plus the new indentured we’re told arrive on a regular basis. We see none of that, it’s just mentioned in passing, but we never see any other people beyond the ones I mentioned, until the end when we meet Jack (the next book), a person we didn’t even know existed before, and the faceless, nameless, crew. Of whom we never even get an exact number, either. Some of them died during the final battle, I think (some anonymous characters die, but I couldn’t tell if they were crew or just random people), yet those deaths have no impact because nobody seemed to care.
A autora fez a escolha perfeita!
⚔️ “You are mine, Ella… And you may not believe it, but I will soon have you begging me to bed you.” ~~~ Ella is one feisty, stubborn, curious and fiery woman. She’s willing to fight for her beliefs even before her abduction. Now, she’ll fight with everything she has for her freedom, too. And like a true Beauty, she has a strong love for books and knowledge. I just loved this warrior queen!
Calder is possessive, dominant, arrogant and angry - a true Beast! But he’s also protective, smart and thoughtful. He’s in a great amount of pain and the only thing that can ease his misery is Ella. And he will stop at nothing to have her. I loved his determination and I loved everything about him!
I adored the development of their relationship - from the denial and clashes, through the acceptance and undeniable attraction, to the scorching hot passion and true love. I loved how both characters grew throughout the story, how their views changed and their chemistry was so great. I really liked the marriage rite, too - quite an interesting custom.
Overall, the story is a magnificent Beauty and the Beast retelling, filled with action, danger, evil and powerful overlords, drama, strong emotions, curses, steam and wonderful characters.
I absolutely loved it and cannot wait for more stories from the Alpha Worlds!
I received an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Release Day Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Warlord and the Waif by Chloe Parker 🐝 One fine day on earth Ella got abducted, now aliens dropped her on a planet and left her in the care of a warden, Calder a formed Skoll Warrior. He is cold, and cruel and cranky, but just as trapped as her on this horrid planet by a curse laid upon him centuries ago. Their chemistry is instant, their desire for each other burn bright against the chains biding them prisoners. As they get to know each other, they both know that they need to escape, and doing it together might be their only hope. 🐝 This book was everything I wanted in an alien alpha romance! Calder was the ultimate grumpy and angsty alien. The story was such a beautiful Beauty and the Beast retelling. I loved how the book started out with the curse and then jumped right in to the action! Chloe has a wonderful way of describing the world our characters are experiencing without feeling like info-dumping, instead we feel enveloped and amazed by all the details this new world. I loved how Caden slowly became more vulnerable with Chloe, how they opened to each other was so sweet. I loved how passionate and all-consuming their bond was. When you pick this book up, be sure to keep an eye open for all the Beauty and the Beast easter eggs and puns. 🐝 Thank you so much @chloesinspace for gifting me and trusting me with this wonderful book! As always all thoughts and opinions are honest and my own! 🐝
“Something about you…it calls to me. I wanted to have you for myself, to ravish you until you begged for more, but I find that it is in fact I who have fallen under your spell.”
🥀 Alien Viking Hero 🥀 Beauty and the Beast 🥀 Fated Mates
Thoughts: This was a fresh take on a beauty and the beast retelling. Though this storyline was pretty close to the original, it was unique and incorporated a multitude of new aspects, which made this story exciting and engaging.
I’d consider this a comforting read because of the familiarity found in many elements of this story, but thankfully it wasn’t completely predictable due to all the new plot points and character traits.
Though I enjoyed this book, I wish there was a little more world-building and more detailed backstories for many of the characters because there were a few minor details that were unclear to me.
Overall, I really enjoyed this and look forward to reading more from this author!
This was a wonderful re-imagining of the beauty and the beast fairytale. First I have to say that beauty and the beast happens to be my very favorite of all fairytales and that this one combined my love of that with my love of science fiction makes this one an awesome read. Ella was 25 and living in the early 70's when she was abducted by aliens and put in deep freeze. She was taken out of stasis about 100 years later and she ends up on a prison planet as an indentured servant . She's pissed! Calder is a reddish copper Viking like warrior with a magnificent set of horns! He's under a curse that keeps him in pain constantly. He's spent the last 400 or more years trying to break the curse. The days he sees Ella and has his hunter by her contract his whole world changes. He loves her defiance but wants to dominate her at the same time. She brings back the fire inside him that he thought had long ave been extinguished! Together the fight, argue and their passions run hot. What starts out as bickering and lust turns into something so much stronger love and devotion! A great read with just enough twists to make it a fresh take on a classic tale. I'll be reading more from this author in the future. Totally recommend 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
My Rating : 3.75/5 🌟🌟🌟 ✨ . Thank you so much for the gifted arc @chloesinspace ! . Okay, I love Alien romances. If it has a sassy, headstrong heroine trying to bring the alien down but ends up liking him? I love it even more. This book had everything. The main characters were really good, had amazing chemistry, I loved all the comebacks, the sassy dialogues, the tension, the secret escape route findings, and that ending. The writing style really complimented the story and made me binge it in one day. You want to know why I loved that ending? Because of a particular bond between one main character and a certain other character. I really liked the character development and how the story flowed. It's been a long time since I read an Alien Romance I enjoyed, and I'm so glad I read this now!! This book just makes me want to binge a whole lot of them now. If you are looking for some otherworldly adventure with some sass, fight, banter, angst, heartbreak and an epic ending involving eye contacts, pick this up!! . I can't wait to read the next book by you @chloesinspace !!!! And Thank you for sending me an arc for this book ❤️ . Kindle / Arc/ June 2021/ Book 148
Really enjoyed this story! Fun & Spicy. ▪ SciFi Alien Romance ▪ Beauty & the Beast retelling ▪ Steamy! Loved this take on the fairytale and the world setting in this book! Very creative and even some steampunk vibes for the city. Fantastic. The characters were great and loved reading about all the different alien races introduced here and there. Ella and Calder's chemistry was nice, especially at the end. Though he was definitely a bit insta lovey in the beginning. The story kept my attention & was fast paced. I do wish the book was a smidge longer though. There were definitely some scenes/instances I wished had just a bit more, something to flesh it out and connect more with scenario being played out. The ending was great! Page turner. Loved the battle action, gave me some great visuals!
AND THAT EPILOGUE!!! Oh my word... Loved it. Her dress sounded gorgeous, and the Whew.. I approve. ^.^ lol.
Overall a solid read! Loved this take on beauty and the beast and will gladly read more about the alpha worlds in this series. Jack sounds like a fun character!
2.5⭐️ As a person who descends from a people who were thriving in their homeland country then were kidnapped and enslaved and told to be grateful… this book was historically triggering and found it incredibly unsexy from the beginning. The colonization shit… pissed me clear tf off. I tucked away my own triggers to listen to this book without it, and here’s my opinion. This book, the MMC, is gross. He admitted to having a history of being a r*pist in his own POV then backtracked it when he was verbally sexually harassing his ward. This book wants so bad to be Beauty and The Beast and I waited patiently for him to be redeemable but he was just sleazy to me. The voice actor in the audiobook gave me the ick and overall I just wasn’t feeling it. Ella bitch ass folded with NO pressure. She was indignant about being a slave for 2 chapters and went from researching in order to fight against oppression to getting eaten out by her oppressor in a chapter flat. Far too much fucking not nearly enough fighting. It didn’t start getting good until the 80% mark and thats only after 2 very confusing chapters.
I am always ready for a Beauty and the Beast retelling, and this one was pretty good. I felt like there were some inconsistencies whenever the number of years were mentioned, but that could just because there were so many different hundreds of years thrown around throughout. Ella also made me a little crazy for the first 50-60%. I couldn't decide if she had a death wish, or was just too impulsive and didn't use logic and reasoning in her decision making. But Calder was interesting, so he made up for her. Lol!
[] Audiobook [X] Kindle [] Physical book
Main characters: Male: Calder (Skoll/cursed space pirate/Warden) Female: Ella (human indentured servant/curse breaker)
Interesting features: Calder has antlers and a ridged c0ck
World-building Highlights: * Hyperboreans rule the galaxy and they are a-holes who basically force their culture and force every other species into se form of servitude. * Elixir is something that's harvested and processed and extends life as long as you keep taking it. * Oddi (the planet they're trapped on) is where Elixir comes from
What is up with female characters lately? They're so unbelievably unlikable it's hard to overlook.
For instance, Ella knows that MMC is cursed and the tattoos have him in constant unbearable pain. So what does she do? She taunts him, uses his attraction to her against him, and then AFTER getting him to sate her lust walks away — leaving him miserable and aching for more.
It's here that the reader is supposed to feel some sort of kinship with Ella in her plight against male lusts, as if the woman isn't using the guy! He's in constant pain that has him doubling over sometimes for hours in the fetal position, but God forbid that when Ella comes to him to give her orgasm after orgasm he succum to his irritations over her always leaving him.
It's not like she doesn't make an ass of herself and him by defying everything he asks and in front of the delegation that he saved her from. The level of stupidity is astounding.
I didn't walk into this one expecting my Beaty/Beast itch to be scratched, but my oh my it was scratched so good I don't think it'll itch for a good long while.

Ella was abrasive; not the shy, bow down to survive FMC that you might expect when hearing that she woke up on an alien planet a century after blacking out on her way to a protest. She was ready to fight any and every person who seemed like they might get in her way. Caldor, a cursed and ancient space Viking with antlers/horns and scars from tip to toe, found this particular fiery femme entirely too intriguing to let her slip through his grasp.
Tale as old as time. Cursed beast, beautiful babe, and evil overlord with insane magical powers that helps keep everyone under thumb. Twist? Vikings in space, Star Wars vibes, and angeringly well-written spice.
Warlord and the Waif by Chloe Parker is an entertaining and imaginative read following the trials and tribulations of one Earth female Ella who’s been abducted from early seventies Earth by alien slavers. I liked the authors using this timeline versus present day and enjoyed the references to Star Trek with Ella’s visual perception of the various alternate alien races she encounters. Subsequently sold to the alien Warlord Calder, Warden of Oddí, there soon follows a story filled with action, intrigue and some really steamy romantic encounters between the two. Throw in a witches curse previously placed on Caldor and we have a definite cauldron of trouble brewing. Good writing and a creative story make for an immersive, enjoyable read. HEA
