Sick and tired of their city being destroyed, the citizens of Tokyo rise up and… kidding. No, only Kuroe has the kaiju-hones (it’s early, sorry) to take on the mystery monster threatening the city and her friends. But how much power can a heartbroken monster girl possibly muster?
I’m a big softy, so I am easily swayed by the endless travails of poor Kuroe trying to find love in a lonely world. This story has all the subtlety of a punch in the teeth, except I always wind up smiling.
First, however, it’s time for a big old kaiju smackdown and, while it’s not quite as smooth as the one I just read in Kaiju No.8, it does a great job conveying the scale of the fight and the size of all the participants relative to one another. In their author note, Spica Aoki says that this volume is what they always wanted this series to be and it feels like it.
And, yes, it all leads up to a dramatic reconciliation and the possible repurposing of Kuroe as Tokyo’s defender, which would be a really cute turn (she turns pink!). While Minami is still a bit of bland, he does step up when it counts and that matters after he was a bit of a butt last time.
Partly this is from his chance encounter with Daichi the man-boy, who mercifully has very, very little page time in this volume. He does what he needs to and then gets sidelined, so this is already a big improvement on last volume.
The payoff for this is pure cheese and absolutely perfect in its cheese. After Kuroe has a harrowing ‘it was all a dream… or was it!?‘ moment that’s incredibly melancholy, and terribly sweet, the reader is really in a position for this to all work out and, oh, does it ever.
Ongoing manga don’t always do full arcs well, but this volume has a strong start, a solid middle, and the delivers all the goods at the ending (possibly too many of them in one hilariously good joke). Kuroe earns every one of those silly hearts in her eyes - her expressiveness is possibly part of why her character is so good.
And we get some big reveals, ending with an even bigger reveal, that should really make for some altered character dynamics. Yeah, I wish Minami hadn’t been such an ass to begin with, but he just about makes up for it here.
4 stars - this story really likes pancakes, I don’t know what else you need in life, frankly.
gods i love these characters so much it's just so damn cathartic that everything is finally out in the open and OF COURSE minami-kun still loves her because he's just the absolute goodest boy and ugh i love this so much.

I've been Kaiju obsessed since I was a kid growing up with Godzilla movies with my dad. So this series was a must for me.
I was so excited to see a manga with a girl who transforms into a Kaiju it's such a unique idea and I had to start it. I loved every moment of Kuroe's story she's just adorable even when she's trying to hide her Kaiju side and be a normal teenager. I think her love interest is perfect for her, and she has some great friends that she's making.
The Artwork is beautifully done to match a captivating story. I've devoured the first 6 and have the 7th on pre-order as I can't wait to continue this series.
Highly recommend this series if your into monsters and romance.
More of a 3.5 star rating; There was a surprising amount of action and drama in this volume which I wasn’t exactly expecting. I’m glad Minami cleared up the issues him and Kuroe had, although I’m concerned with how reckless he was being in this volume. I also liked Minami’s dynamic with Daichi, and am curious to see if their supposed rivalry actively goes anywhere; since Daichi is an actual middle schooler. I’m especially curious to see what happens in the next volume(s) with Kuroe’s unexpected reveal to her friends and how their relationships with her can change going forward.
Ho ufficialmente dimenticato tutto quanto è successo nei volumi precedenti. E ho avuto qualche problema, almeno all'inizio, a ricordarmi chi era chi.
3.5? This was probably my least favorite volume thus far. By no means was it bad but not much happened. We got a fight among Kaiju’s and our main lead found out what we already know. I did go into this thinking this was the final volume and I am thrilled that it is not because there’s so much unknown yet!
This installment features a turn for the series with an introduction of full on epic levels of action. The author even makes a point to say this was the story they wanted to tell, with scenes reminicant of Godzilla: King of the Monsters or Rampage. This is a must read for anyone who is a fan of giant monsters and I cannot wait for the next volume of the series to be released.
GGAAAHHH now that I'm all caught up it's going to feel like forever until volume 7 comes out.
Kaiju Girl is such an exciting ride with a well-developed cast of characters. Secrets are finally coming to light. I'm sad it's probably going to be a long time before we read about Kuroe's friend's reactions and more on what her mother is hiding from Kuroe.
I'm not usually one for battles that last for an entire volume, but I'll make an exception for this one. There's just so much emotion going on here, mostly from Kuroe. Minami makes a great showing here, finally stepping up to be the interesting love interest Kuroe deserves. And very little Daichi, thankfully.
What a great reveal! I'm so excited and nervous about the Kaiju knowledge coming out! The only downside to this volume for me, was not getting to know the motives of Kuroe's "little sister" (I was also hoping for a Human-Form reveal). Arata has come back around and proved himself, their relationship feels like it's hit a real turning point, and I am giddy!
sooooo cute!!! kuroe has her first major fight as a kaiju, saves Tokyo, and makes up with Minami - who realizes he was wrong and does some major moves to make up for it. their climactic embrace was mega adorable. I can't wait for the next volume!!
