✨The vibe of Braxton Steele: I am a sex god but I’m going to worship YOU.✨

All I’m gonna say is that I would do very questionable things in order to obtain 1. Braxton Steele. Just kidding I’ll say more but that’s where my head’s at right now I cannot tell a lie. This was beautiful and sexy and I really want to get my hands on the deleted scenes because I want MORE.

This book is very odd (in a good way) (just kissing the line of slightly unhinged lol). The recovering the Declaration of Independence plot is very very minimal, someone got axed, and their relationship is at the forefront. I can’t say that I’m extremely bothered by any of this because I do love the main couple to just be happy and getting it on for the entire book.

I just think the summary is a bit off the mark or the pacing is. Basically they don’t start this heist until 40-50% through and he starts the book being like hey let me sex you up out of the gate (I do not mind this just being clear). So there’s not a lot of pining and they’re together together pretty early on. So that coupled with the delayed heist is just kinda odd all together but it still works?

I felt sad and kind of adrift after finishing the book, as I wanted to just spend more time with Braxton and Raven. And I basically got the entire book of them just being together! So while the plot wasn’t necessarily what I expected, I’m not disappointed. It was pretty low angst with the end of the heist being perfectly satisfying but not drawn out. We love revenge yes we DO!

Their relationship was just so peaceful and easy and I loved it. There’s a major spoiling kink and my god please I want it. And we got a good girlllllll. He gave her so many things: dresses, bath salts, love, orgasms. She had worked herself hard over the years and he was like NOPE not on my watch and I don’t know it was just really well done here. And really hot. Sex god status unlocked. Also the reading scenes melted by soul.

As for the sex, foreplay was real giver here too. One of the first couple scenes he was like round two let’s go and it was so hot. I love when that happens in books because I’m just assuming the scene is done and we’re moving on but nope! I can’t remember which book recently did it (was it Diana Quincy’s? Lorraine Heath’s? Edit: it was Harper St. George’s thank the lord I take horny notes.) where he was cleaning her up and then just decided to get her off again and wow my love language is suddenly acts of service!

The beep beep sex itself was relatively lackluster because most of it was vague or summarized but I was there for the atmosphere of it all and can’t really complain about it. He was a tailor which is just very sexy in and of itself, but he was also obsessed with her undressing herself for him. (There was also a really hot moment where he was like lift up your skirt for me this is why I bought it for you.) We got enough of the sex god and pampering that I was adequately seduced.

We also got these two lines and really, how much more can I ask for: “May I have some cock now please?” and “Would you like a quick orgasm before breakfast?”

I loved the mother/daughter father/son relationships we were gifted here. I love seeing healthy and happy parental relationships and I especially loved seeing the secondary love story unfold. Also Dorrie was a great addition to both the story and the romance. Predicting Brax and Raven’s marriage was the cherry on top of their forced proximity. They were both side-eying each other like…”well you are hot…” Her family members in general were a bunch of really bad ass con artists and I’m absolutely here for it.

Overall, if you want to feel all warm and fuzzy over a fictional relationship, this is the book for you! This is my second romance by Beverly Jenkins and it obviously won’t be my last. For starters, I’m going to go back and read the first two books in the series. I will also be hoping that Lottie gets her own book in a new series!

Read this when it came out, but have been holding off reviews for HarperCollins imprints for the duration of the strike.

That said, it's a Beverly Jenkins book so you could just fill in a massive squee without needing me to type it, I don't know why I bother. :P Here we have a grifter heroine from an entire family of Black con artists, who are also fiercely dedicated to giving each other a leg up to increase the family's chances. I would like at least six more books about the family please. The hero is a more proper character from up North who comes to realise his relative privilege, and they must both go undercover in a confederate type household to retrieve a stolen copy of the Declaration of Independence (this is the Platonic ideal of US historical pulp-adventure plotting and I love it) plus foiling the Pinkerton who has blackmailed Raven. Enormous fun.

This book has all the hallmarks of a top tier Beverly Jenkins historical romance: a swoony hero, a fiercely independent heroine, a cozy writing style that feels warm and inviting no matter what is happening with the plot, and beautifully spare writing.

Raven is one of my favorite heroines of Bev's. She is a lifelong swindler and she's now teamed up with Braxton to try and get the stolen Declaration of Independence back.

This book had equal parts swoon and intrigue and I can not get over what a great hero Braxton was. They were a great team and I LOVE a fake relationship.

This romance was perfect and I loved it so much!

I really wanted to love this. The heroine is a spy and is forced to work with the hero as a married couple to uncover a stolen copy of the Declaration of Independence. I really liked how the heroine didn't like the hero when they met and how she is very stubborn. But I feel like that tension resolved too quickly and they decided they liked each other too early in the book. Because of that, I was a bit bored by the romance. When it came to the spy plot line, I also felt a bit underwhelmed. Not a whole lot happened on that front until about halfway through the book when they finally go undercover in the household. Even then, they were just sneaking around and that was really it. I was expecting a more exciting mission and I was left a bit disappointed not hat front. I still enjoyed being in another Beverly Jenkins historical and how much history was in this book, but the romance and enticing plot were a bit lacking for me.

I wound up not enjoying this book like I wanted to. Unfortunately, this book reminds me of my fortune hunter chauffeur I had when I was in college Robbie who unfortunately loved my money. I love everything else about this book which is why I am rating this book three stars. The romance is very good and spicy 🌶. I love the two main characters and not surprisingly one of them was the chauffeur. I love the heroine who had a huge wonderful family full of con artists which is no surprise because I love the TNT show Leverage and Henry James novels and Miss Havisham.

What a sensational audiobook!! I was captivated right from the beginning! Mrs. Bev writes in such a way that I CRAVE her words. The research. The history. The authors note at the end—chefs kiss 💋. This is why she is the GOAT!!

Braxton & Raven = Hot, hot, HOT! The banter. The sass from Raven. The way Braxton wanted to teach her a listen and give her dessert. I highly recommend this book.

To Catch a Raven is the 3rd and last book in the Women Who Dare series. I have loved this series so much, honestly everything Beverly Jenkins writes I will read. I always love the history and insights I learn while reading one of her books and of course the romance was superb as well. l loved this book from beginning until end. I didn't want it to end. It doesn’t matter how I read her books in their series, it doesn’t matter because they are so very good. I really enjoyed the premise of this story. A swindler and a law abiding man forced to pretend marriage to get back a stolen copy of the Declaration of Independence. Highly recommend.

Another fantastic book from Ms. Bev! Combining sexy romance with real history and a spy story, To Catch a Raven was a lot of fun. Raven and Braxton are forced to go undercover to find a document (one that really exists!) in the home of an old woman who is disturbingly racist and treats them as if slavery is still occurring. There is plenty of tension and the two of them have great chemistry. My only real complaint is that the ending felt rushed. A lot happened and was just sort of glossed over.

I cannot believe it has taken me this long to read a book by the Grand Dame of romance herself, Beverly Jenkins!

Maybe it's the bodice-ripping covers and the historical fiction (I generally read contemporary romance with the cartoon covers because I love the ~aesthetic~), but I'm kicking myself for not reading anything by her sooner. And of course I start at book 3 of a trilogy, because why not?

Many romance trilogies are stand-alones with interconnected characters, and this one was no different.

I loved Raven, who was a con-woman and grifter, and her family of New Orleans confidence folk who were setting aside their earnings to increase their generational wealth and pass down money for their future. I also liked Braxton, who had to realize that a lot of the privilege he'd grown up with in Boston was not what the rest of the Black communities in the United States had to deal with.

And the plot was fun too—taking back a rare copy of the Declaration of Independence that had been stolen by a former Confederate soldier!

I'm definitely going to read more of Jenkins' extensive backlist!

Series: Women Who Dare #3
Pages: 368

It never fails when I get the chance to read a Beverly Jenkins novel that I totally fall in love with her writing. She is one of my favorite authors and it doesn’t matter how I read her books in their series, it doesn’t matter because they are so very good.

“To Catch a Raven” is the third book in the series. Raven Moreaux is from a family of grifters and Braxton Steele is a tailor in Boston whose father has turned over his life as an expert forger of art. The two families collide when his father and her mother use to lovers in the past. In order to prevent jail time for members of their families, Braxton and Raven are forced to help the Pinkertons by going undercover as husband and wife to retrieve a stolen copy of the Declaration of Independence. Both Braxton and Raven must play the part, however they have an alternative motive with revenging the Pinkertons for blackmailing them into the roles they now play.

Both characters were very likeable for me…especially Braxton that exuded sexiness on the pages. I too enjoy they way the author writes the love that both the hero/heroine have for one another and taking care to develop their relationship towards one of love. The heat and steamy between the characters (totally look for in my historical romances) was the right amount for my taste. Not having read the others in this series, it is my goal to do so as this was such a wonderful historical romance that was thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommend this book.

Book #3 in the Women Who Dare series.

Delightful and stunning!!! 💕🤩 What a perfect ending to this series!!! This had all the bells and whistles I can only hope to find in a great HEA and more. It’s the story of New Orleans born ⛲️🎺🦐 Raven Moreaux who comes from a proud family of top-notch grifters 🏴‍☠️ and Braxton Steele who hails out of Boston ⚓️☕️.

Raven and Braxton are brought together under alarming circumstances by a government 🇺🇸 official looking to further her own career by securing a name for herself in the history books. The woman seems shady 👤 and you can just bet Ravens family will oust her in the end if she is. Their story takes us to Charleston 🌊🦀 on an undercover 👩🏽‍🍳💍🤵🏽 quest to find The Declaration of Independence 📜, and if UN-successful.. they’ll be arrested and jailed 👮🏻‍♂️. Yes you heard that right, both imprisoned for years including his father!

Braxton 🙋🏽‍♂️ is completely besotted 💘 over Raven, and can be boldly affectionate and a total swoon fest when it comes to Raven.. he’s most definitely a cinnamon roll hero! (Raven herself can’t stop eyeballing 👀 him when he’s not looking 🙃😉)

Neither had ever planned on finding a love match 🫶🏻, but these two 👩🏽‍❤️‍👨🏽 behave like bees 🐝 to honey 🍯 when alone. So you know there’s more going on under the surface.. the heart ♥️ knows what it wants. And there’s that one annoying thought on each mind.. what happens once they find the document and must go their separate ways..❓

I fell head over heels for this fun, fast-paced tale that unites two family’s, has action and adventure, trickery and espionage, and a frisky banter that had me blushing from cheek to cheek 🤭, this is sooo good it’s not to be missed!!! Plus it can be read as a standalone (but why miss the first two when they’re just as amazing!) ❥

First Impressions
To Catch a Raven is the finale in the "Women Who Dare" trilogy. This is also the last book that most likely we will receive from this author as I believe the author released Avon would no longer be publishing historical's for her (and they are doing this to many authors currently) So it was truly bitter sweet knowing this would probably be my last book by this author that is recently published. To Catch a Raven I was kinda on the fence on, I wasn't a fan of the cover change that much, although I found the original cover that they have----Isn't it SO much better and actually matches the rest of the series and her books? The story was very solid though. I still think the first book is my favorite though from this trilogy. But this one has the similar setting of sorts and some unique dynamics.
First Line

The Main Protagonists
The Hero: Braxton
The Heroine: Raven

Summary
Braxton and Raven are both blackmailed to do a fake relationship with each other to recover the declaration of Independence which has been stolen and it needs to be recovered. They have no choice in the matter, as the Pinkerton's have a lot of Government power and will ruin both of their families if they don't fall in line with what they choose for them. Raven is a known grifter and thief of sorts, and Braxton has very little trust in her as they have had interactions previously. My heart went out to Braxton though. He is a man of honor and good intentions and makes the best of a bad situation. Raven hasn't had the best life, but a good life surrounded by her family and has a heart of gold despite her past. Raven and Braxton find a love unexpected, but Raven will have to face some challenges to embrace what loving Braxton would mean for her future.

What I Loved
To Catch a Raven was such a powerful story. I found the story to be so engaging and I just had a entertaining time with Braxton and Raven and seeing their interactions in play here. We see a prologue of their first interaction where Raven attempts to deceive Braxton and Braxton sees through it lol So they definitely don't care for each other in that way. I did find a fascinating though with them seeing how they work on slowly resolving their issues and the chemistry that builds between them. As they are posing as husband and wife, there are situations where they have such a close connection to one another.

I loved the forced proximity and some scenarios where they are forced to share a bed. I did wish that there were more intimate moments when they were forced in that situation. The romance truly doesn't blossom until after their undercover adventure. It did leave some solid breadcrumbs and we see how well these two just click for each other. I found it interesting how the story was developed a bit though. I honestly didn't know about the Declaration of Independence and so fascinating to see how rich the historic aspects of the story are relayed. I was intrigued to see how things would fare for Braxton and Raven once their "job" was over. The actual mission they are on isn't the whole story. We still have the conflict of their relationship to resolve as Braxton is from a different state from Raven and a different type of life as he is in high society and she isn't. So we get to see how she has to face up to that challenge and learn what she is capable of. The romance does have its swoony moments and I loved how all in the hero was in the relationship once he fell for Raven.

What I Struggled With
While this story had some fabulous moments and the romance was very well done, I felt like there was just something missing from it. Their connection wasn't as deep as the previous books and I felt like their relationship felt a bit sluggish at times and not enough focus in certain areas of the story. I also would have liked to see Raven show a bit more investment in the relationship. Its portrayed as Braxton doing most of the leg work and I would have liked to see Raven show more heart into it like what Braxton was willing to give to her.

Narration
Very powerfully done. I feel like the narrator really knows the writing style of this author and was able to really portray the emotion and the heart just right and the historical aspects were well focused on.

Overall View
To Catch a Raven was a splendid historical romance that really takes it deep into the era of reconstruction in the America's, how both white and blacks were effected, and how they worked together in unique ways to rebuilt. We see a love tale that builds on deep connections, conflict and resolutions. If you love this authors pen style, get ready for a thrilling adventure to make your toes curl.

Steam/Spice Explanations

Simmering cup of tea---soft warm touches and light intimacy
Warmin' by the fire- a medium level of sexual tension, a balance of sexual and emotional intimacy, lighter on the details in the sexual moments.
Steamin' up the room -the sexual content is more explicit in the language and tone, heavier amount of sexual scenes.
Blazing fire to the building-The prime focus is the sex scenes, scorching hot, and could burn one. Less focus on the emotional intimacy to the relationship.

This was such a good and well-written/ researched historical romance. The fmc Raven comes from a family that is in the grifting business. When she has to go undercover to get the stolen Declaration of Independence she partners with the mmc Brandon as they fake being married. Brandon and Raven are the definition of opposites attract, Brandon is from an affluent background and resides in Boston, and Raven is from New Orleans and grew up dropping out of school and having to clean to make money.

The romance was slow burn, but they had that chemistry and tension from the beginning. Once they got to know each other they developed a friendship and the mmc definitely fell first. There was some good slow-burn steam as well as a background love between their parents. There was also a detective that was out to get Raven so there was also some mystery and I liked how that got resolved.

Read for:
- Historical romance
- Only one bed
- Pretend marriage
- Forced proximity
- Black romance
- Opposites attracts
- Wealth mmc

Braxton and Raven definitely have a ton more chemistry than the previous book featuring… wow, I can’t even remember their names.

Anyway. I thought this was a really exciting story until the last 30%. The pacing seem to lose a lot of momentum after Brax and Raven retrieved the stolen document, escape the crazy white people they pretended to be working for and return safely to Boston. A lot of the conflict caused by the villain (the double-crossing lady detective) was resolved abruptly and felt rushed in my opinion. Again, by way of a whole load of telling instead of showing.

This is the second book I’ve read by Beverly Jenkins and I’m not sure how I feel about her writing style. It felt very emotionless and robotic, which is disappointing because the lead up in this story was promising. She’s a well-loved and respected Romance author but perhaps she’s just not quite my cup of tea.

I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this at my local indie bookstore, and I really enjoyed it! A blend of adventure and romance. This is definitely my favorite Beverly Jenkins series (so far!), and while I didn’t love this as much as Wild Rain (there was a bit too much “I’ll reward him for being nice with kisses and sex” for me, even though it was a joke and totally consensual) but still a good time. And I still hate the cover.

Before reading: This cover breaks my heart, especially since I saw on Instagram they HAD a cover that matched the design of the first two. Every romance novel doesn't need a damn Bridgerton cover! UGH!

Quick Notes

10 Stars!!!

I LOVED this book. It may be my favorite and that’s saying a lot. The historical references in this book are A+. Raven and family warmed my heart. Braxton and his father are diehard romantics. I do enjoy reading and learning about blacks who elevated as well as the struggles of others. We need a balance in our stories.

The awful treacherous Ms Welch and the Confederate loving Miss Helen both got what they deserved!

I highly recommend this book, series and the entire Brenda Jenkins catalog of exceptional work.

To Catch a Raven is the 3rd and last book in the Women Who Dare series. I have loved this series so much, honestly everything Beverly Jenkins writes I will read! I always love the history and insights I learn while reading one of her books and of course the romance was superb as well. This story is a fearless grifter who goes undercover to reclaim the stolen Declaration of Independence!

Raven Moreaux comes from a long line of grifters and couldn’t be prouder…until she’s forced to help the government. Born into a family full of grifters, counterfeiters, gamblers, swindlers, imposters; Raven ends up posing as the housekeeper to the man suspected of stealing the Declaration of Independence and is tasked to try and get it back. She gets partnered up with Braxton Steel as her partner, he masquerades as the valet and driver, as well as Raven’s “husband”.

The first half of this book is learning the history and backgrounds of Raven and Braxton’s families, more so Raven’s extensive family. We learn that Braxton’s father was an art forger in the past and had once been in love with Hazel, Raven’s mother. They actually get their own little second chance romance in the story which was sweet to see. I did like all the time spent with Braxton and Raven getting to know one another before they head to the house to pose as fake spouses. The romance and steam was heavier in this book (which I loved) and I’d say the action of searching for the item was less the focus of the story, which I expected it to be more of the story with how the blurb is written. That said, I love Beverly Jenkins writing, her strong heroines and the heroes who worship them is always so fun to see!

Of course, Bev’s books more often than not have connections to other books she’s written and this book has no different. Ties to the LeVeq family, distant ties to Pilar’s family (Destiny’s Captive), and a character from Winds of the Storm.

3.5 stars/rounded up on GR. Thank you to the publisher (Avon Books) for an e-ARC via NetGalley. All thoughts in this review are my own. To Catch a Raven has a publish date of August 23, 2022.

My god. This book is truly just the most spectacular of them all. I ate this book up and it left no crumbs behind! Braxton is one of the best book boyfriends to ever exist in this lifetime and the fact that he impressed a lesbian so much should just speak for itself! But my god, Raven was just as equally as amazing! Their banter was EVERYTHING and I truly wanted them to be together and both were perfection on their own too! Loved loved loved this book!

Beverly Jenkins is one of those authors that everyone just has to read- she's not called the Queen of romance for no reason. To say she can weave a beautiful story is an understatement. The way Jenkins teaches the reader about history that is never taught in school, while also telling such a fun and romantic story is truly incredible. Seriously, To Catch A Raven is like National Treasure meets an old school Western romance. And I loved the fact that characters from Jenkins' other books popped up in this story- callbacks are my favorite! I so enjoyed this book and while I found it slow at points, overall, it didn't distract too much from the story. This review may be all over the place and that is because I'm still coming down from a book high. Beverly Jenkins is a lifelong auto-buy author for me and she should be for you as well.

ARC gifted to me by publisher. Thoughts are my own.

This third and final installment in the Women Who Dare series by Beverly Jenkins is a fun and innovative addition and conclusion. Each book in this series can be read as a standalone and at the heart of each novel in a strong and independent woman who knows how to work hard for what she wants and will challenge the man who wants to claim her heart. Jenkins writing is comfortable, plain and straight forward while building an intriguing heroine and a bold hero ready to fight for the woman he falls for. This last book in the series is entertaining, well paced and a charming ending to this group of books which leaves me craving to know what Jenkins will decide to explore next.

Raven is a grifter, and from a long line of grifters and she takes pride in the work that she does of bringing people in power (who do rather awful things) down a notch. But when she is called to help out the government she must pose as housekeeper and the wife of her partner, Braxton, who will masquerade as a valet/driver, in order to recover the stolen Declaration of Independence.

This novel starts out so fun with a glimpse into Raven's life as a grifter which immediately endears the reader to her. Then we take some time to develop and establish Raven and her family and Braxton and his family before we embark on the immediate plot of this story. Jenkins takes her time in establishing the past between Braxton's family and Raven's family to give the reader a deeper context of the mindsets of both the hero and heroine and this helps us to understand them on a different level. It is fun to watch Raven and Braxton, who are both determined not to fall for the other, slowly tumble into their attraction for the other. Jenkins builds their relationship slowly and carefully through interactions, stolen kisses, and the trust and understanding that comes with entering into a physical relationship. Family and their relationship are really at the forefront of this novel with the intrigue taking a bit of a back seat in my opinion, but I really liked this balance and thought is created a really nice and consistent pace for the novel.

I also know when I read a Jenkins I will be left with a happy and full heart, that I will be charmed and delighted in seeing how she will interconnect that novel with other novels in her backlist and be rooting for a strong heroine to find a man who can be strong and stand beside her and support her in the perfect way. Definitely do yourself a favor and pick up any Jenkins' romance, you will surely not be disappointed!

Thank you to Avon Books and NetGalley for an eARC, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

To Catch a Raven was such a fun and satisfying read! I loved the chemistry between Raven and Braxton, their connection felt so natural, and it was heartwarming to see how much he cared for her, always showing up for her without needing to be asked. I wish I could snatch Braxton out the book and keep him for myself 🥰 The heist subplot was a great touch that kept the story moving in an exciting way. My only critique is that one plot point felt rushed near the end. Still, this might be one of my favorites from Beverly Jenkins so far!

Loved this one, Braxton and Raven were such a well-matched opposites attract pair. A businessman and a conwoman go undercover together to retrieve a stolen object, it was lots of fun and very steamy.

It took a while for me to get into To Catch a Raven, but boy was it worth it.

I've been intimidated by Beverly Jenkins' backlist for a long time. She's such a giant in the genre and I was pretty sure I'd love her books, but it perversely took me ages to get around to reading something of hers. I eventually decided to just jump in with her most recent. I probably would have picked it up no matter what the summary said, but seeing the words "stolen Declaration of Independence" made me a special kind of delighted and sealed the deal.

The big winner in this book is the world-building. Jenkins is pulling many different threads from history together into this one novel. Somehow, she braids them together into one unified story. Instead of feeling like digressions, they serve as context--necessary context for the main characters' place in their world. The world is rich with sociological and racial dynamics, and the main relationship still comes out front-and-center. If this is what Beverly Jenkins does, then I'm getting an idea of why she's ~Beverly Jenkins~.

I think I'll need to read a handful more of this author's novels to fully get into her writing style. The direct, spare prose reminded me of some older romances I've read, and I was a little thrown off by it initially, especially in a new release. It started to flow for me more toward the end, so I think getting some more of this author's work under my belt will help.

I didn't like the pacing in this one, but that may be a bug of this novel in particular rather than a quality of Jenkins' style. I was anxious to get into the heist plotline, which doesn't truly begin until almost halfway through, and the relationship was stagnant for some long stretches.

Thank you to Avon/Harper Voyager for the advance review copy of this title. No money changed hands for this review and all opinions are my own.

This is my third Beverly Jenkins, and no one is more upset than me at the fact that I haven't loved a single one yet.

In this novel, I can see WHY Beverly Jenkins has become such a champion in the historical romance genre. I love that her books have such fun premises, and Beverly Jenkins does an excellent job bringing the historical landscape onto the page. There is so much research that goes into crafting these tales. She writes perfectly about the ways Black folks lived during these historical time periods. She doesn't shy away from depicting the negative aspects of this history, but she also focuses so much on strength, love, and resilience in a way that makes all her novels feel so light-hearted, fun, and cozy. Her heroines are always plucky, her heroes are always loveable and swoon-worthy, and her romances are just... so sweet and wholesome.

This book is no exception. I loved reading about the history of Raven's family, and her bond with Brax was just so lovely. Brax himself... WHAT A MAN. There were parts of this novel I really liked, and I couldn't help but root for the romance.

However, it has become clear after this third novel that I simply do not connect with Beverly Jenkins' writing style. She has a very spare and dialogue-heavy style. There's not much inner monologue, and the little that happens to be there is often overshadowed by plot. I was often frustrated in this book because Jenkins would start to dive more deeply into the dynamic between Brax and Raven, but their slow, meaningful character moments were overshadowed by things that were irrelevant. So much of the exposition also happens via the dialogue, which made it difficult to feel connected to the characters.

I was also frustrated by the romance. The "conflict" (such as it was) could have easily been solved if they had an honest conversation about their feelings from the start. It also felt a bit wishy-washy. Raven would think about all these reasons why she couldn't be with Brax, and then they would just fall into bed together. It was hard for me to see the progression of their feelings for each other. It just kind of happened.

I so wish I had loved this. Part of me is tempted to pick up some of her more beloved novels to see if I can get along better with the story, but it's unfortunately become clear to me that her writing style is simply not for me. However, I do certainly see why Beverly Jenkins has made such a name for herself in the genre and I would not hesitate to recommend her books!

6 Stars without question!!

Finished this book days ago and I am still thinking about it. Beverly Jenkins writes it, please know that I am going to read it. The pacing is always spot on and then add on the character dynamics. Raven Moreaux and Braxton Steele are paired together against their will Being paired against their will does not ruin the story in any way. Braxton stepped up to the challenges both spoken and unspoken. We're able to see our fierce independent Raven being pursued by savvy Brax. And my GOD I wanted to trade places with her! Their romance was perfect. No notes whatsoever.

Seeing big families that look out for each other ❤️ Along with Braxton being intrigued by Raven's family. I love Dorrie!! She is where she was meant to be.

I will be reading this again and adding it to my physical collection.

Review to come probably either tomorrow or Friday, but I loved this. Really enjoyed the cast of characters here, and even if you haven't read the other books in the series, this can stand alone well for the chemistry, dynamic, and dialogue between the leads. Probably going to give this 4.5 stars, but I need to think about it a little more before I give my final thoughts.
