Twelfth Night Novella #1

Silver Bells and Secrets

Rate this book
Grace plans to marry the host of their Christmas house party.
Ezra has only until it ends to convince her otherwise.

Lord Ezra Weston has done something incredibly stupid. Through a series of events he prefers not to consider too closely, he has begun a written correspondence with Miss Grace Stewart under the guise of being his own sister. She’s witty, considerate, and as much in need of a friend as he is. So, why not continue? That is, until Grace writes and says she’s set her cap at someone. In only a few words, Ezra realizes he hasn’t only made a friend these past many months, he’s fallen in love.

As an earl, Ezra can get himself invited to the Christmas house party hosted by Grace's would-be husband. But once there, how does he plead his case? Either he loses Grace’s trust and friendship, or he loses his one chance at happiness. But that seems only fitting, seeing as he’s already lost his heart.

The beginning of a new series by sweet historical romance author Laura Rollins, Silver Bells and Secrets will have you cuddling up by the fireplace and humming carols. This short and sweet Christmas story is packed with charming characters, hilarious capers, and a clean and wholesome romance, sure to light the Christmas spirit inside you all year round.

Laura Rollins has always loved a heart-melting happily ever after. It didn’t matter if the story took place in Regency England, or in a cobbler’s shop, if there was a sweet romance, she would read it.

Life has given her many of her own adventures. Currently she lives in the Rocky Mountains with her best-friend, who is also her husband, and their four beautiful children. She still loves to read books and more books; her favorite types of music are classical, Broadway, and country; she loves hiking in the mountains near her home; and she’s been known to debate with her oldest son about whether Infinity is better categorized as a number or an idea.

This was such a sweet, quick read!
It’s very short so I read it in just one evening but it made me smile and immerse myself in a House Party with sleigh rides, secrets, letters and love!

I loved Grace and Lord Weston! They were a perfect match.
I would have loved some more plot and fleshed out characters but seeing as this was just a novella of 110 pages, I thought it did very very well!

Now what I didn’t like… Lord Weston’s sister, Frances.
I wondered if she would be redeemed in any way but nope… Probably because it would take longer than 100 pages for her to grow into a better person and get you to like her 🤨

Anyway… this was my first sampling of Laura Rollins’ writing and I am very intrigued for more!

I can’t wait for Lady Augusta’s story next year!
It’s just so far away! 😩

This was just lovely:} A Christmas romance with some good misunderstandings! Completely believable and just well done. This novella felt like a full story:} Rollins writes an excellent novella romance. This was just sweet and a lot of how I pictured Darcy comes out in her leading man in this one.

Utterly and completely adorable!

This regency romance novella features a Christmas house party with yule logs and sleigh rides and secret admirers. The love story between Lord Weston and Grace is the melt-your-heart variety and will leave you sighing with happiness.

I was hooked from the first chapter and could not put it down until I found out how they would get their HEA. Trust me; this is one holiday story you need to read this year!

I received a complimentary copy of the book but a positive review was not required.

Laura Rollins is a new-to-me author, and the first book in the Twelfth Night Novellas was so enjoyable. Twelfth Night is the day before Epiphany and is the twelve days after Christmas. In England, there are many balls and parties that take part during Twelfth Night.

Lord Ezra Weston is seeking a wife during the Christmas holidays; when a friend of his sister, Lady Stewart, begins writing (and his sister has no interest in writing her back), Ezra pretends to be Frances writing Lady Stewart back. Thus begins a relationship between them, yet Grace has no knowledge that she's really writing Ezra. When the Twelfth Night parties and balls begin and they finally meet, will sparks fly and will Ezra be able to get himself out of trouble for the letters?

Very enjoyable novella, and I enjoyed finding out about the celebrations during Twelfth Night.

SILVER BELLS AND SECRETS by @LauraRollins

This was a delightful Christmas novella. Short and sweet!

🎄I like Ezra's vibe. He was a sweet brother and son. I found it relatable that he got anxious when surrounded by people. A giddy Ezra was so cute. I liked how Grace handled the whole situation. I felt her pain and confusion but she remained amicable. I wish this was longer, but it wrapped up nicely. I look forward to the next one.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Thank you to the author for the complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are my own.

A 3.5-star read for me, rounded up.

As I recall, I didn't check out the plot in the blurb before picking up this book. I stay on the lookout for novellas, and the cover and title of this Regency Christmas one caught my interest.

I found this to be entertaining reading. The conflict isn't too dramatic or angsty, and Grace and Ezra both have an easy quality, with simple but believable chemistry between them.

Now, I think the story sometimes states the obvious, and the writing is redundant here and there. I also felt a bit pulled out of the moment occasionally if a character's actions didn't quite seem to fit the setting. For instance, there's an evening musicale with ladies and gentlemen where I'd naturally picture the men with stiff coat collars and with cravats tied up around the high collars of their shirts, keeping their necks rather covered up.

The chin and neck of a man in Regency-era dress

So when "Ezra ran a hand over the back of his neck" in thought in the musicale scene, the action didn't mesh with the occasion, in my mind's eye.

Also, the epilogue features a minor character with pretty low spirits and problems to contemplate as a lead-in to the next book in the series. I think romances should focus on the central couple and end on a high note. So, disappointed by the downturn in the epilogue, I skipped much of it and wouldn't personally recommend romance fans to read it.

Nevertheless, the main story is one I do indeed recommend, as it nicely delivers on love blossoming at Christmastime.

Note:
• no violence
• no profanity
• no explicit sexual content

What a sweet and adorable Christmas romance!! Ezra Weston may be an Earl but that doesn't make it easier for him in social situations. It seems he never knows what to say or what he wants to say doesn't come out the way he intended so it's taken the wrong way. When his sister, Frances, receives a letter from Miss Grace Stewart and doesn't even open it, Ezra reads it, and pretending to be his sister starts a correspondence with Grace. Through the weeks long exchange of letters, Ezra starts to having feelings for Grace. Upon learning that Grace will be attending a Christmas house party at Lord Brown's, Ezra gets himself invited. It's one advantage to being an Earl. Now to get Grace to fall in love with him.

Oh Ezra what have you gotten yourself into?! The truth--horrid realization--was that Ezra was wholly, completely, unequivocally in love with a woman who didn't even know his face. I loved Ezra! It's not often that we have a hero that's shy, and feels somewhat inept in social situations. Eza was so kind and sweet and much more deserving of Grace than Lord Brown. I wanted him to tell Grace he was the letter writer before it got too late, because we all know something always happens when the hero/heroine is about to spill their secret. Of course it did--poor Ezra. My heart hurt for him and I could've Gibbs slapped Frances (and her friends) for being so cruel to Grace.

I liked Grace and felt so badly for her--being thrust into Society where titles and "breeding" mean far more than it should, rather than the kind of person you are. Grace is a kind person and deserves a true gentleman like Ezra. I loved this sweet Christmas romance.

Silver Bells and Secrets

I am living these Christmas novellas! Don’t let the “shortness” fool you, they are still packed with amazing story lines, deep characters, tons of emotion and romance, which all the warm and cozy sugar and spice that makes the holidays nice.

Laura’s new book, Silver Bells and Secrets is a story about mistaken identity based on a pen pal relationship. Except, one side of then relationship isn’t telling the whole truth.

What do you do when you find yourself falling for someone, but they have no idea who you are? Ezra finds himself falling for his sister’s corespondent, Miss Stewart; but Gracie thinks she writing to “her dearest friend” Lady Stanhope. “The truth—that horrid realization—Ezra was wholly, completely, unequivocally in love with a woman who didn’t even know his face.”

If you enjoyed Rebecca Connolly’s The Lady and the Gent, this book gives off similar vibes.

I cannot wait for book 2, Sugar Plums and Scandals, in this Twelfth Night Novella series.

Adorable, delightful, heart melting love story...I could go on. Can you tell that I adore this story? Laura Rollins puts together a beautiful love story wrapped around letter writting, the magic of the holiday, a classic regency Christmas house party and so much more.

How could one not fall for Lord Ezra Weston when reading this book. The down to earth, honest (you know except for those few secrets involving letters), kind and thoughtful earl is perfect and I cheered for him to find love from page one. He is has the charm of a true gentleman that just melts one's heart. And Grace, who's season doesn't go as planned puts herself out there to aquaintances through letter which takes courage. She is exactly that- courageous walking into the lions den of society when it comes to the women of this era. Her honestly and genuine approach to life is what pulls men to her...and there's just the right amount of tension when it comes to men to keep this story interesting throughout.

If you want a beautiful regency Christmas novella in your life pick this one up. It is perfect for the holiday season (or any time of year because who doesn't want a little Christmas cheer in July?). I loved this book from cover to cover and highly recommend it!

This Christmas novella was delightful and just the perfect start to the season. I love regency romance stories and Ezra and Grace’s story is up at the top of my list. Letters exchanged under the guise of his sister, Ezra has fallen head over heels for Grace who shares a lot of his feelings on things. When he finagles an invitation to the Christmas house party she is attending, the secret may just come out. How does he tell her and will she understand? Will she return his regard? Laura Rollins makes magic with this story and I read it quickly. I finished it in one sitting! A wonderful Christmas regency novella, Silver Bells and Secrets is an absolute delight! Recently, I was at an author chat where the author brought up the topic of writing letters and the lost art that it now is. Letters used to take time- both to write and to receive- and then treasured and kept to look back on. It made me think about the letters I used to write in school- notes back and forth to friends and to my current crush :). I kept them in a shoebox to look back on and loved remembering the dreams my friends and I would talk about, as well as, the fanciful way me and a boy I liked flirted :). This book reminded me of all of these things.
I thought this was such a heart warming story. Grace and Ezra were a sweet couple. I enjoy stories where characters get to know each other through letter writing and thought Ezra using his sister as a cover was an intriguing challenge for them. Watching how they grew to know and care for each other, and then how they reacted once they met in person was also delightful. There was a theme too I thought of kindness and the difference it makes in others lives, especially in the regency setting, when so much about interaction came down to social standing. You won't want to miss this lovely holiday regency romance!

I just adored this book. I loved the romance, and sweet story. I also really liked the two main characters. Though one was an Earl, and one had no real standing in society to compare, they were great characters, and easy to admire. A wonderful Christmas story. 5 stars.

This is a delightful Christmas novella! With an idyllic country house setting at Christmas, the hero and heroine take part in Christmassy events like a musicale, yule log hunt, and a romantic sleigh ride. The secret kept for much of the story as a major plot device worked well in this era and situation, making me eager for it to be revealed and the subsequent surprise of the story to impact the heroine. I was happy with the way it unfolded, because that's usually not my favorite device.

Oh! And the hero is a somewhat socially awkward EARL! AKA a beta hero who's more comfortable in a one-on-one conversation :) :) loved him.

I'm looking forward to the next novella in the series releasing next Christmas!

What a delightful Christmas romance with a secret identity plot! Ezra though an Earl has a difficult time in society. He’s shy and often says the wrong thing. Miss Grace Stewart feels the same way. When she must leave early during the Season, she writes to the various acquaintances she made including Ezra’s sister Frances hoping one of the young ladies will write her back.

Frances is a snob, to put it mildly, and doesn’t even give the letter a glance, but Ezra reads it and finds a kindred spirit. Men can’t write to women who aren’t their betrothed. So what does he do? He secretly writes back and signs it with his sister’s name. The two develop a great friendship through letters, but when Grace mentions that she is going to Lord Brown’s Christmas house party with hopeful intentions, Ezra decides he must go as well and make his growing feelings known to his friend.

This story was really enjoyable! I loved the way Ezra and Grace connected. With Ezra’s secret identity between them though, I was just waiting to find out what Grace’s reaction would be when she finds out the truth. There are a few twists in the story that threaten to upend all of Ezra’s plans, and it’s not clear until the end how things will get resolved. I also liked several of the side characters, especially Lady Augusta. Lady Frances is one of those spoiled mean girls whom you love to see get a set down.

All in all, I really liked this sweet Christmas novella and am looking forward to reading Lady Augusta’s story. I received an advanced copy from the author. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.

First, I have to say really quick that I love this cover especially for the context of this story. Now to the story; this was such an adorable and sweet Regency novella set around the Christmas season. Ezra honestly was THE sweetest. He is shy and falls in love with Grace through letters he's been secretly writing as his sister. When he finds out Grace may fall for another man, he shows up at a house party trying to win her over in real life. It was fun to watch him navigate knowing Grace while “not” knowing Grace since they hadn’t officially been introduced before and Grace had no idea that Ezra was her dear letter correspondent. A cute and unique novella, I highly enjoyed this sweet Regency romance.

Silver Bells and Secrets: a Regency Christmas romance
Twelfth Night #1
By Laura Rollins

Grace Stewart's season in London left her feeling alone, when it ended early, so she reaches out via letter to one of the young women she met there. But when his younger sister refuses to respond to this missive searching out friendship, Lord Ezra writes to Grace instead. Grace delights in this friendship while Ezra is struck by how perfectly he and Grace get along with there likes and enjoyments.

But when Grace writes about her hopes for the upcoming Christmas season and the possibility that she may make a marriage match, Ezra realizes the perfect muddle he has made of everything. He's fallen in love with Grace and she has no idea who he is. Determined to keep Grace from making a decision that will result in her marriage to someone else, Ezra does the only thing he can - he asks that he be added to the Christmas festivities.

When a stranger arrives at the Christmas House party, Grace is more than a little surprised when he can't take his eyes off of her. Has she created some some error, made a social gaffe? Surprised at Lord Ezra Weston's attentions, Grace is left with a quandary - does she encourage the attentions of Mr. Brown or Lord Weston? Her simple background and untitled parentage finds her beneath Ezra socially so why should he pursue her?

What follows is a delightful story of holiday romance. Could a letter written seeking out friendship end in something more? And when Grace discovers the true identity of her "friend" will she be mortified, outraged, or delighted? Ezra's time to win Grace's heart is short and factors are not in his favor.

Silver Bells and Secrets is an enjoyable story that you will want to enjoy when the hustle and bustle of holiday expectations start to get to you. Take a step back to a simpler, though not less stressful, time and allow yourself to be drawn into this quest to win the heart of his perfect match. This is a delightful way to start a series and I for one can't wait to discover the future pleasures and delights awaiting me next year in Sugar Plums and Scandal.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Absolutely adorable! This novella was the perfect start to the winter season. It's cute, cozy, and just the perfect amount of romance! The characters and the story drew me in from the start.

Ezra Weston, a shy earl, has a difficult time in society. Often saying the wrong in front of others, Ezra finds a kindred spirit in Miss Grace Stewart. When Grace has to leave early in the season, she writes to some acquaintances, hoping to nurture a friendship with one of them. She strikes a friendship through correspondence with Ezra, thinking it's Frances, his sister. A close friendship develops and when Grace mentions a visit to Lord Brown's Christmas house party, Ezra decided he must go and make his feelings known.

I really loved this story! I enjoyed the way Ezra and Grace connected through letters. Writing letters has become a lost art over time. But there is something beautiful about writing letters to loved ones and friends! And the anticipation of receiving an answer, it's a lovely feeling. This book reminded me of how much I enjoyed exchanging letters with my best friends and receiving their responses. Texting is faster, yes, but letter writing is just so much more personal.

This was such a heartwarming story! Ezra using his sister's identity to strike a friendship with Grace was a challenge for the couple to overcome. As a shy and introverted person, I really appreciated the personalities of Ezra and Grace. I deeply understood Grace's feeling of loneliness and her desire to make a connection with someone. There was an underlying theme of kindness and the difference (and confidence) a friendship can bring in a person.

This was a wonderful Christmas regency romance! The book ends with a teaser for the next book and I can't wait for Lady Augusta's story!

Cute quick read

I enjoyed this novella and particularly the character of Lord Weston. As an introvert, I feel somewhat shy in social situations as well, so my heart went out to his character. He was adorably awkward, and I loved the way that the author was able to unfurl the relationship between Him and Grace. I almost didn't read this based on others who wrote reviews about what Grace thought of his attentions, but I was able to relate to their initial meeting and thinking she'd committed some kind of social faux pas. The story didn't dwell on that as I would have expected based on the reviews, but the two progressed in every subsequent interaction. I think her thoughts were probably pretty accurate to what someone from her social time and setting would have thought, and I'm glad I didn't discount this read based on those reviews. Maybe other reviewers just don't understand how the mind of an introvert works. ;)

This was a quick read (I finished in under 2 hours), and it could have been developed into a novel rather than a short novella, but I didn't feel it was lacking in substance. Just that I wanted more. I did like that neither the hero nor heroine was given to extreme melodramatics, and I appreciate that in a romance, so I would have liked to see more of their interactions and maybe a bit more of their correspondence ahead of the party, particularly how his feelings developed over time. It was a pretty big time jump from the first letter to the party.

This is a clean read with chaste romance (only kissing), and no inappropriate language. The bulk of the novella took place during the Christmas season, but it wasn't particularly Christmasy other than that a few of the scenes took place in wintery settings.

Overall, I would recommend this novella to anyone who enjoys sweet regency romances.

Synopsis:
Ezra – Lord Weston – continues a letter correspondence with an untitled lady – Miss Grace Stewart – when his sister spurns the attempt at a continued acquaintance. When Lord Weston requests to attend the same Christmas house party that Grace will be in attendance at, can he break the news that he is the author of the letters without breaking her heart??

Review:
I loved all the tropes in this book – mistaken identity, house party, titled/untitled – they were all so good!! This book was so fun and I was waiting and waiting for how he was going to break the news to her. If you love any of these tropes, along with Christmas time and some fun traditions thrown in, I’m pretty sure you will enjoy this book as well.

I also really enjoyed the aspect of Grace being shy. I am super shy myself (this is obviously Meg) so I love reading about shy women who can still catch the eye of amazing men who seek them out and love them anyway.

Thank you to the author for an advanced copy of this book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. All thoughts and opinions are my own, and unbiased.

This story was delightful! An entirely sweet novella!

Letters! A wonderful way to get to know someone… especially if you are pretending to be someone else.

Ezra Weston sees a truly kindred spirit in Miss Grace Stewart and decides to write her back after his sister deems Grace’s letter beneath her notice. One response turns into months of correspondence, rendering Ezra completely besotted. When an opportunity arises to meet Grace in person, he goes out of his comfort zone to go to a house party to see her and eventually tell her the truth.

Grace, thinking she had been corresponding with her very great friend Lady Frances, is intrigued when her brother Lord Weston arrives at the house party. He watches Grace often and seems to be most relaxed in her company. As their friendship grows it becomes more and more apparent that she is falling for the Earl.

Letters, sleigh rides, stolen moments, surprises, and revelations all combine and lead us to a lovely happily ever after. I very much enjoyed this story.

I received an advanced copy of this novella. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Sweet

This is a sweet, sad, and lovely romantic story. Grace and Ezra are meant to be together.
As an earl, Ezra can get himself invited to the Christmas house party lo by Grace's would-be husband. But once there, how does he plead his case? Either he loses Grace’s trust and friendship, or he loses his one chance at happiness. But that seems only fitting, seeing as he’s already lost his heart.
I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited. This in no way affects my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

This was a very cute little regency romance novella! A super quick read, but it had all the things!

Lord Ezra Weston is a socially awkward Earl who doesn’t like the big crowds of London and always seems to mess up his interactions with the women of the ton. He finds himself writing a letter back to Grace, who is essentially a nobody, but shares common feelings about London society. The two bond, but he’s been writing her under the pretense of his sister! Fast forward to the Christmas house party where they actually meet in person and Ezra has to rein in all his feelings and get her to fall for him. It’s so precious! I loooove it when a man falls first!

The development of a relationship between the two main characters was precious and you could feel them growing to love each other.

The ending was expected but wonderful. I’m very excited for Lady Augusta’s story in the next book!
