After being forced to kill an FBI agent gone rogue in self-defense while working in the violent crimes unit for the Investigative Services Branch, ranger Madison Thorn is comfortable with her move to the fraud and cyber division. At least numbers don't lie. So she's less than thrilled when a white-collar crime investigation in Natchez, Mississippi, turns violent. She could also do without being forced to work with former-childhood-enemy-turned-infuriatingly-handsome park ranger Clayton Bradshaw.

When a woman who looks just like Madison is attacked on the same night Madison's grandfather is shot, it becomes clear that there is something much bigger going on here and that Madison herself is in danger. Madison and Clayton will have to work together--and suppress their growing feelings for one another--if they are to discover the truth before it's too late.

USA Today bestselling and award-winning author Patricia Bradley closes out her popular Natchez Trace Park Rangers series with this complex story of family secrets, mixed motives, and learning to trust.

Characters: Clayton and Madison were both sympathetic characters. Clayton was determined to treat Madison right and not repeat his womanizing past. Madison was also a great character. She went through many hard things in this book, and her reactions were so realistic. Some of the suspense books I've read skimp a little on character development, but the characters were developed so well in Deception.

Language: Clean.

Moral/theme: Dealing with grief and relying on God to overcome addiction were a couple of themes in this book.

Plot: Talk about suspenseful! This book had plenty of action scenes and high stakes to make me want to keep reading. And the villains were quite plentiful.

Romance: Clean. Just kissing. Madison and Clayton worked well together.

Writing: Patricia Bradley's smooth, clear writing style worked great for this book. I'm excited to read her next release!

Overall: Deception was an exciting read that I'd recommend to those who enjoy Christian fiction and romantic suspense.

Disclosure: I received this book free from Revell through Interviews & Reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own, and I was not required to write a positive review. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

Intense page turner that didn’t let me put it down for a minute! We have two women who look alike, who are both in high risk jobs, and either might be a target. Who’s just tried to kill one in cold blood and shot the grandfather of the other? Clearly one of them has poked the wrong bad dude. Both are in Natchez on a couple different errands, one from Arkansas and the other from Louisiana. Who knew either was coming and wants to get rid of them?

It’s a super complex storyline with a nicely layered plot. Plenty of suspects and possibilities are waiting for solving and a pleasant romance is there for Clay and Madison as well.

“To hold on to unforgiveness is like a cancer to your soul.”
Patricia Bradley has penned another outstanding offering in her Natchez Trace Park Rangers series.
Madison has so many questions plaguing her when she goes back to Natchez to work on a cyber crime investigation. Things go from bad to worse when she gets stopped for speeding along the Trace by childhood friend Clayton, a fellow Park Service Ranger. When they are paired to look into a recent shooting, things get decidedly more complicated. The excitement does not let up as this layered story unfolds. And just when all seems be resolved, another twist comes into play.
Although flawed, Clayton is a charming hero, but he knows Christ can help him overcome his difficulties. He gives solid support to his friends and family. Madison is a bit shaky in her faith, for she has been through a lot in her life and keeps getting thrown surprises. She gains strength from her grandfather and friendship from his godly housekeeper. And they both learn that forgiveness can be healing.
If you are looking for an intricate plot, lots of thrills and a pinch of romance, try this book on for size.

So originally, I was going to take a break from reading romantic suspense novels. I tried…for two weeks. Patricia Bradley drew me back into the genre with Deception, the final novel of her “Natchez Trace Park Rangers” series. I have followed this series from beginning to end, and this one does not disappoint! Madison and Clayton make a believable pair whose relationship seems to naturally transition. There is no force. A dash of romance, a sprinkling of suspense, and a pinch of mystery all combine to make a fantastic story that leaves readers guessing until the final page.

Deception by Patricia Bradley is everything a Christian romantic suspense novel should be. Madison and Clayton are both imperfect, and there is no doubt, they are different people. But their differences make for a great partnership between them as they seek to unwrap a compelling mystery with lives on the line. And to think, Madison only came to town to investigate a white-collar crime case with the FBI. She did not expect to plunge back into the violent crime investigations that she left behind four years ago. And Clayton definitely didn’t think he would ever see Madison again.

It took me two weeks to read one hundred pages of a different novel before I plunged into Deception by Patricia Bradley. Deception? It took me maybe five hours to finished, split into two days. For the first time in a long time, I experienced a novel that could have kept me up at night, had I read Deception in bed. That is saying something, because it is actually rather hard to achieve. Bradley’s newest book has the thrill you need to take breaths away and the humor necessary to break up tension. If I had to choose, Deception may be my favorite of the entire “Natchez Trace Park Rangers” series.

Deception by Patricia Bradley stands as its own novel; there is no need to read the others in the series to understand its context. The plot is complex and well thought-out but not so much that it is confusing. You may need to remind yourself of some character names as you go along (I did), but outside of that? Deception is an easy, fast, and very exciting read. It’ll keep you guessing, as it did me. If you give it a shot, you won’t regret it!

Patricia Bradley is well known for her intriguing romantic suspense novels. This book, the conclusion to the Natchez Trace Park Ranger series, continues her excellent suspense writing. From start to finish, there are twists, turns, and unexpected revelations. I suspected there were several people involved, but never could quite pin down who they were. The relationship between the various law enforcement agencies and how well they worked together was interesting to watch. Madison Thorn was a great heroine to follow through all her experiences: strong, courageous, and brave, not much threw her. Clay Bradshaw was a perfect match to work with Madison, and it was wonderful to watch their slowly developing relationship. I also appreciated that this played somewhat in the background and did not overwhelm the suspense theme of the story.

Once again, another wonderful series from Patricia Bradley. I look forward to Bradley's next amazing suspense series.

I do love a good mystery with some heart-pounding suspense. Deception by Patricia Bradley is full of mystery and suspense both--there are more than a few unanswered questions that the reader has while reading this book.

ISB Ranger Madison Thorn is back in her home town of Natchez to investigate a white-collar crime. It has been a few years since she investigated violent crimes and she isn't anxious to work in that area again. Unfortunately, she is forced to investigate a violent crime--and it is personal one--in more ways than one. However, a former childhood friend, Clayton Bradshaw, comes alongside her to help with the investigation.

Deception was an intriguing book from start to finish. I really didn't want to put it down. I was amazed at how Bradley wove several mysteries together to create an amazing tapestry of both deception to the characters in the book and clues that build up to an exciting conclusion for the reader. I liked Madison and Clayton and their budding relationship seems realistic. Bradley doesn't shy away from wrestling with some of the hard things within her characters that many people face in the world today. The spiritual aspect is also well-woven into the plot This is a complicated story but I did keep all of the characters straight as she paced each introduction well. I figured out a few things but there were also some that I didn't know until the end. Deception was a great read for the mystery and suspense reader who likes a bit of romance alongside of a fast-paced plot.

This book had wonderful twisted plots and exciting parts. I enjoyed the entire book and couldn’t guess all that was going on—until the end. I called the finale, which was fun.

As with the other books in this series, I loved that this was set in Mississippi. It was less involved in the actual Natchez Trace than the other books in the series, but still enjoyable.

There was a good Christian theme threaded throughout the book. I especially liked the lessons Clayton learned throughout the book. It was also really neat how Madison saw a clear picture of Christian love in others.

I thoroughly enjoyed this series! It will probably go on my re-read list.

Well if you enjoy suspense then this is definitely the book for you! This is my first book by this author and boy it won't be the last. This book definitely has you in pins and needles from the very beginning and does not let you lose interest at all. It definitely is a page turner and you will not want to stop reading at all. It is fast paced and felt like a quick read.

The characters were very like-able. Clay and Madison were definitely easy to connect with and their relationship seemed very realistic. The author did a great job at giving you a true portrayal of someone overcoming addiction. She didn't make it seem like it was rainbows and ponies but rather a true thing that is difficult and takes time. It is a daily struggle. We as Christians struggle daily even when we have a close walk with the Lord.

I know this is part of a series and typical me started a series in the end of it all so I am sure that although I had no trouble following the story, I think it would have been even better if I would've started from the beginning so I could get to know some of the characters even better.

Overall I thought the story was great and really enjoyed it. I can't wait to explore more of this authors books.

"Deception" is a Christian romantic suspense. This is the fourth book in a series, but it worked as a standalone novel. The main characters were engaging, complex, and reacted in realistic ways to events. The suspense came from the attacks on Madison and a woman who looks just like her--which one is the target? It was a complex mess to sort out. Madison and Clayton asked questions, followed up on leads, and worked well together.

However, Madison thought about some clues (so the reader can guess the identity of a suspect from a past case) yet she somehow didn't put the clues together at that time. There was another suspect where she seemed surprisingly willing to accept his assurances. On the other hand, she previously fell in love with someone willing to kill her, so it's consistent that she tended to see the best in people but was good at spotting discrepancies in paperwork and crime scenes.

Clayton trusted Madison's ability to analyze crime scenes. They worked as a team and supported each other. Clayton struggled to resist his addiction to gambling and to forgive his sister's husband for his addiction. He felt God telling him to support the other in resisting his addictions rather than condemning him, even if it was hard to trust that he really had changed. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this suspenseful novel.

Wow, this book had me on the tip of my toes with a lot of twists and turns and a few possible suspects.

Clay and Madison were easy to like and connect with. Their relationship development also felt realistic. Both had a past struggles, Madison with her adoptive parents not having the best relationship and Clay with his past addiction. I appreciate that the author showed that an addiction can be overcome, but not with temptation to return when things get difficult. Sometimes authors can edge on the line of characters overcoming struggles with no issues, which for me is a bit…fictional. Real people, even Christians with a close relationship with God, has daily struggles and temptations to overcome.

The suspense plot was intriguing and fast paced. And with multiple scenarios and suspects, it was easy to be kept guessing, though there were a few hints I put together faster than the characters and I did wonder why the characters did make the connections sooner. This however did not take away any of my enjoyment reading this story.

4.5 ⭐Christian suspense romance readers will enjoy it. The main characters were engaging, complex, and reacted in realistic ways to events. an intriguing, twisty-turning, fast-paced suspense-filled thrill ride. The story is about family, broken relationships, new relationships, and forgiveness.

Madison has recently transferred from her Texas violent crimes posting with the National Parks Service, a former childhood friend park ranger Clayton comes alongside her to help with the investigation. Madison remembers Clayton as her childhood tormentor, but the Clayton she sees now is strong, dependable, and smart.

He and Madison team up to solve the mysteries and the murder of a relative close to Madison. I liked how the characters were realistically portrayed. And how They learn to work together and support each other through all the drama that unfolds. There is a substantial faith element, which I liked.

Deception is the second book I’ve read by Patricia Bradley. Even though romantic suspense is not one of my most preferred genres, my interest continues to grow. I love the fast pace, quick read, and most of all the spiritual thread that ties this story together.

It is easy to connect to both Madison and Clayton (love the names!) They have issues to work through and show wonderful growth. It’s easy to empathize and root for them.

The story starts with plenty of action, and it never lost my interest. I turned pages until I finished the book in one sit. I love a fast, well written, attention capturing story!

Deception is the thrilling conclusion to this suspense-filled series by Patricia Bradley. Although it is Book #4, it could very well be read as a stand alone.
After shooting a fellow rogue agent in self-defense, Madison, the main character, left her position in the violent crimes division to be a park ranger and fight white collar crimes. She is surprised when she is called back to solve a murder case.
Is it a coincidence when a woman looking much like Madison is shot the same evening Madison's grandfather is shot?
Madison is drawn into her own past history, and the twists and turns this story takes are truly incredible.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to read a good suspense or mystery novel.

Deception is the fourth book in the Natchez Trace Park Rangers series, but can easily stand alone. The series is connected more by location than characters.

There are a lot of moving parts to this story. Madison and Clay are likable characters. Their relationship is not forced or rushed. They end up being work colleagues, working on some very intense cases. I feel like there is not much more I can say without giving spoilers.

An epic story with family secrets, things not being as they appear, learning to trust, and surprising revelations.

ISB Ranger Madison Thorn left her work in violent crimes after a traumatizing incident. Now she works white collar crimes and heads to Natchez for an assignment. Officer Clayton Bradshaw is investigating a shooting and Madison gets pulled into the investigation. She has to balance her own investigation and the unfolding drama with her own family and her adoptive past.

Madison struggles to trust men after what happened and Clayton made a promise when he came to follow Christ. They learn to work together and support each other through all the drama that unfolds.

This is book four in the series, I've not read the others, but I had no problems reading it as a stand alone. Christian suspense readers will enjoy it.

Deception by Patricia Bradley is the fourth book in her Natchez Park Rangers series. Even though it is the fourth in the series this book could be read as a stand-alone novel. Book started out suspenseful with Madison protecting herself from an evil man. Characters from previous books are mentioned in the book but they don't have any roles in this book. Like the previous books in this series there were several different storylines going. Someone wants Madison Thorn dead and you have to wonder who wants her dead. There are some surprises in the book that I will not reveal as it will spoil it for the reader. I loved reading alone as Madison discovered secrets from her birth that she was not aware of. Loved the relationship with Clayton and some other people who came into her life.

Highly recommended for those who love romantic/suspense/thriller type of books.

This is a multi-layered story about family, broken relationships, new relationships and forgiveness. Madison Thorne is an ISB Ranger and returns to her home town of Natchez to investigate a white-collar crime. Once there, she is caught up in a vortex of cases, including murder and human trafficking. There are so many characters pretending to be what they are not that it was hard to keep up with all of their secrets and lies, but what a high entertainment factor! The action did not stop from the shooting on the Trace until the very end. The plot was definitely fast-paced and intriguing since I never knew what new twist would be added next. Madison was a sympathetic character with a flagging faith and loss of her ability to trust people, especially men. Clayton, the Ranger who patrols the Trace and an old nemesis of Madison’s, is a character with sin in his past that he is still trying to overcome. He and Madison team up to solve the mysteries and the murder of a relative close to Madison. I liked how the characters were realistically portrayed, with weaknesses that were difficult for them to overcome, but they kept trying. There were definitely some unlikable characters, like Madison’s father who seemed to be controlling and manipulative without caring about his daughter’s feelings at all. My favorite character was a secondary one named Nadine, the housekeeper for Madison’s grandfather, and a wonderful woman who dispensed wisdom just at the right moments. With danger closing in, Madison and Clayton have to solve the cases before they end up being victims, too. This was a race to the finish and had a spark of romance added that was a welcome addition to the story. Fans of romantic suspense will enjoy the trip to Mississippi and the unraveling of the story of deception and discovering the truth.

What an intense page-turner! Finished it in one day because there was no way I could pull myself away. I've really loved this Natchez Trace Park Rangers series -- such a unique backdrop for a suspense story. Rich layers in both plot and character kept me reeling and needing to know more asap. So many intricate twists and turns to the suspense -- Bradley is a master at crafting seemingly unrelated tidbits that pull together by the end so pay attention...everything is important. My mind was whirling with all the possibilities as I tried (somewhat successfully...sorta) to put all the pieces together.

And I loved the dynamics between Clayton and Madison. Their meet-cute is hysterical and then they're plunged into a dangerous mystery which complicates any hope of romance. And they both have interesting back stories that play into how they react to each other which really fleshes them out and makes them real.

Also appreciate the faith elements in this romantic suspense. Forgiveness and hope. Learning to trust God in all the hard places of your life. It really helped to 'soften' the harsher aspects of the story.

Loved that I chose an unputdownable novel for my first read of the year!

Deception is an entertaining, fast paced read. I am a growing fan of Patricia Bradley. Her romantic suspense novels are well written, suspenseful, full of twists and turns, and contain plenty of characters to keep readers guessing on who the perpetrator is. I had read book 1 of the series and thought it was excellent, so when I came across this one (I know, I skipped over 2 books!), I knew I wanted to read it. I was not disappointed. The characters were relatable and realistic, and the plot line developed well. I’d like to read the other two books in the series but think that these novels could be read as stand alone stories if needed. This book also contains a spoiler for her next series. Definitely intending to read that one as well.

This series has been fantastic, and this final novel is a perfect ending! You do not have to read the stories in order, as this novel stands well on its own, but as someone who devoured the first three books in the series, it was great to return to Natchez, Mississippi. I really like Madison and Clayton individually and I really loved them together. Their relationship is not forced but develops naturally and realistically. The suspense is fantastic! The action starts immediately, continues without lagging in the middle, and finishes strong. I had a hard time putting the book down! I also thought the author did a great job of incorporating spiritual truths among the pages. I greatly enjoyed the story and highly recommend this book!

This was a nice conclusion to the Natchez Trace Park Rangers series. Though this is book 4 in the series, the story stands alone and you don't need to read the other books prior to reading this one. The heroine from book 1 shows up as a side character in this one and it was nice to "catch up" with her, but you don't need to know her history to make sense of this novel. This book follows Madison Thorn, an Investigative Services Branch ranger, who has come to Natchez to help with a white collar crime. She left the violent crimes division behind several years prior when she'd had to shoot her partner in self defense and enjoys the lower risk of the white collar investigations. When she unexpectedly gets thrust back in to violent crimes and finds some unexpected answers to her past, she's grateful that ranger Clayton Bradshaw has her back.

While the romance felt a bit rushed and sometimes "cheesy" to me, I'll be the first to admit that I typically do enjoy my suspense with little to no romance, so this one will likely better appeal to those who enjoy a good dose of romance with their suspense and find it satisfying when the characters fall in love quickly. Outside of the romance though, this book hit the ground running and kept me turning pages to see what was going to happen next. I didn't know "whodunit" till the very end, and the mystery was enjoyable. There was a solid faith thread as Clayton relied on God through his temptations and Madison sought answers. And there was a common thread of forgiveness for all of the main characters. I enjoyed the overall story arc and the character growth and development. Overall this was an enjoyable read and one I'd recommend to fans of inspirational romantic suspense.

Special thanks to Revell Publishers and NetGalley for an advance e-copy of this novel. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.

From the opening pages, this book grabbed me!
Madison had to face a difficult situation with the man she thought she loved and the man who betrayed her. It cost her a lot.

Madison was an incredibly strong woman but yet she struggled with the past mistakes and played it safe. Until she was forced to face the ugly lies that come to light in the worst way.

We've seen Clayton Bradshaw in all of the books in this series and often times he was a very unlikeable, but Clayton has gotten his life straightened, but he's not perfect, he shows the reality of addiction.

The story itself was really good. The plot was interesting and fast paced. Some of the things I figured out before the end, but not everything which made the story even more interesting for me.

This is another winning book by Patricia Bradley! Although it is a book 4 you really don't have to read books 1 -3 to enjoy this story.

"I know we only met today, I gave you a warning ticket for speeding, but . . . . I hope you'll let me be the person who stands in the gap for you like when we were kids.".

Madison Thorn desperately needs someone to stand in the gap on her behalf while life appears to be spiraling out of control, but she just isn't sure that the tall handsome park ranger, Clayton Bradshaw, is the right person for the job. It's so hard for her to trust anyone, especially men, they have deceived her before. But now? The one man she has loved and depended on and trusted above all others? His life hangs in the balance. And what's even more unnerving . . . . someone who looks just like her was brutally attacked on the same evening. Madison had dared to think that her violent crime days were over.

This story! It has more twists and turns than a gigantic pretzel. Back and forth, and up and down, and all around . . . fascinating in places and infuriating in others . . . . how much can one person possibly endure? But endure she does, and what Madison gains is worth far more than what she loses.

If you are looking for a story that has action, suspense, identical twins and an edge of your seat adventure, look no further. The author gives us a thriller that takes us into the world where deceit and murder reigns among the people involved. I loved the story within the story where Madison’s grandfather has kept a secret that will have lasting consequences. The dynamics of Madison’s upbringing can be described like an onion that is peeled off one at a time. There are so many mysteries in her life that I was hoping something good would finally show up for her.

Clayton is a great character and steps up to help Madison out. There is a little tension from them at first but as the story continues they are able to talk honestly with each other. I’m glad their romance wasn’t the main focus and directed our attention to Madison that has someone out to kill her. Adding to the mystery is a woman who could be Madison’s twin. Clayton is shaken when he thinks the woman in the hospital with a bullet in her is Madison. I loved the tension as these two women meet for the first time.

With the unexpected death of her grandfather, Madison is desperate for answers. She knows her grandfather would never kill himself so who murdered him and why? I was trying to figure out how all this would tie together and couldn’t wait to see how the author would put the pieces together. As the ending draws near, I find myself shocked at the secrets that were revealed and the pain so many had endured at the hands of two unexpected people. Madison must face the realization of what has happened to her and the people close to her that deceived her.

The book is one that I can highly recommend as the author delivers a story filled with everything you would expect from a gifted writer who threads together pieces that end with answers and a feeling of a chapter closed. The theme of forgiveness is illustrated in the story and shows us that even though it may be hard to forgive, we must in order to move ahead with our lives.

I received a copy of this book from Revell Blogger Program. The review is my own opinion.

You know how your English teacher says the way to read your story is to have a good hook. Well, how about this one? “Today was not a good day to die.” This sure had my attention and the opening scene was not only exciting, but also surprising and wanting to read more.

Secrets, corruption, murder, and action had Madison, Clayton, and me all trying to untangle the web of deceit that Madison had been completely unaware of even existed. That is, until someone totally unexpected comes crashing into her life and turns everything upside down. With twists and turns and several false leads, you are sure to want to read this book.

Deception is this fourth book in the Natchez Trace Park Rangers series, but can be read as a standalone. I have read the other three books, but there are only cameo appearances from other characters in the series and they are only there to provide assistance and support to Madison and Clayton.

I received this book through Net Galley and the publisher, Revell, and was not required to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.
