Introducing Uni the Unicorn EN ESPAÑOL! In this Spanish edition of the Step 2 reader, Uni and friends go on a magical, fun-filled sleepover.
Join Uni the Unicorn in this Spanish edition of Uni's Step into Reading adventure! In this Step 2 book, it's Uni's very first sleepover! The other unicorns have been to sleepovers before, and have learned LOTS of magical games. Uni struggles with game after game, and by bedtime, Uni isn't having a very good time. Will Uni find a way to contribute to the fun?
LEYENDO A PASOS is a line from Step into Reading offering leveled readers in Spanish. Step 2 readers use basic vocabulary and short sentences to tell simple stories. They are perfect for children who recognize familiar words and can sound out new words with help.
Amy Krouse Rosenthal was a person who liked to make things. Some things she liked to make include:
Children's books. (Little Pea, Spoon, DuckRabbit) Grown-up books. (Textbook Amy Krouse Rosenthal, Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life) Short films. (The Beckoning of Lovely, The Money Tree) Guided journals. (The Belly Book) Something out of nothing. (see above)
A longtime contributor to WBEZ and to the TED conference, Amy lived with her family in Chicago and online at whoisamy.com.
I thought it was a good story about overcoming being disappointed. However, the five year old was surprisingly mad that there were only unicorns in the story. She wanted the little girl too.
Uni is going to her first sleepover. She is having fun, until she fails at every single activity the others suggest. She goes to bed upset, but in the middle of the night Uni discovers something she is good at.
More than just a cute sleepover story, this has a good message for readers that you don't have to be good at everything your friends are good at, everyone has different talents. I know some die-hard Uni the Unicorn friends who will be super excited to get their hands on another Uni story. This will be super popular in our elementary library. Recommended to any kid for the message, but unicorn lovers will especially love this.
I was not a fan of Uni the Unicorn or Uni the Unicorn and the Dream Come True , but I think for what it is, a "Step into Reading" book, Uni's First Sleepover succeeds on that level and on the story level, as limited that is and can be for a "step" book.
Uni's First Sleepover is the best of the three I've read.
Uni stops having fun at a sleepover when she realizes she can't do any of the special things the other unicorns can do. Until she realizes that she has courage and can help all the others by being brave.
Uni attends her first sleepover, but she's bad at all the sleepover games. She thinks she's not having fun, but then she finds something she's good at: telling stories! A cute little story full of cute little unicorns.
Uni the Unicorn participates in her first sleepover in this early reader, joining her friends Goldie, Pinkie and Silky on Sunny Hill for some fun. Although eventually cast down by the fact that she isn't any good at the things the others like to do—playing sparkle ball, making colors when she runs, skipping rocks—Uni is reassured when it turns out she does have a talent. Namely, she is a wonderful storyteller...
Having enjoyed all three picture books about Uni the Unicorn—the first two written by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, and then after her death, the third written by her daughter Paris—I have recently been seeking out other books featuring the character, including board books and now, early readers. Uni's First Sleepover is one of a growing number of the latter, and is part of Random House's Step Into Reading collection, Step 2. I was pleased to see that although the original author and illustrator (Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Brigette Barrager) are credited on the cover, no doubt to keep consistency, the actual author and illustrator (Candice Random and Lisa Marlin) are credited on the colophon, as I know that this isn't always done, in franchise titles following on from popular originals. In any case, although there isn't much here for the adult reader, I think the simple text and bright artwork will please young fans of this character, as well as beginning readers who love unicorns in general.
This book is about Uni's first sleepover with friends. This book is about how Uni's friends have all had sleepovers but this is Uni's first. Uni struggles to fit in and struggles at the games. Later in the book, Uni late at night finds what she is good at. I enjoyed this book but it was not my favorite book to read. I would recommend this book to little girls who are interested in unicorns and want to find ways to understand it is okay to not be like everyone. This book is not very diverse but is based on a unicorn.
Like most early reader books, “Uni’s First Sleepover” is entertaining for kids, but for adults? “Not much,” as my daughter would say. Worse, the cover and title page say, “An Amy Krouse Rosenthal book” with “Pictures based on art by Brigette Barrager.” The names of the two people who actually created this book are practically hidden amongst the rest of the text on the indicia, something I’d expect from Disney or Warner Brothers, not a series created by two creatives.
Uni goes to her first sleepover. They play Sparkle Ball and Uni gets out, but she doesn't mind. They try making colors when they run, but Uni only makes dark clouds. She doesn't mind. But when they try to kick rocks across a pond, Uni isn't good at that either, and she does mind not being good at anything. When the unicorns all get scared in the night, Uni finally finds something she's good at. A nice story, even if it is about unicorns...
This was a cute, quick read. I think readers who love unicorns would enjoy it, especially young kids just starting to read as this is very accessible. I liked the plot and how even though she kept losing Uni still had fun for the most part. I like that she did find something she was really good at in the end that her friends were really excited about. Cute and I would recommend this to kids.
Uni the Unicorn Uni's First Sleepover by Amy Krouse Rosenthal Uni is going on her first sleepover in this Step 2 book. Uni is nervous about her sleepover but really wants to go. The other unicorns have all been to sleepovers before. When they start playing games it doesn't make Uni feel any better until something happens. This is a great book for any child going on her first sleepover.
Uni struggles to do well at things and eventually that gets her down and she isn’t having fun. Maddie definitely related to this. Hopefully the message that she found what she was good at and remembered to enjoy herself will hit home.
Meh. it has a unicorn, so it would circulate and circulate and circulate. Not really compelling to a 49 year old, but I suppose I'm not the audience, lol.
I thought that this was an ok book. Defiantly a book for those who love unicorns. This is a book for younger readers. This is also an AR book for anyone who might want to know.
