Gordon James Ramsay is a British celebrity chef, restaurateur, television presenter, and writer. His restaurant group, Gordon Ramsay Restaurants, was founded in 1997 and has been awarded 17 Michelin stars overall and currently holds eight. His signature restaurant, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea, London, has held three Michelin stars since 2001. After rising to fame on the British television miniseries Boiling Point in 1999, Ramsay became one of the best-known and most influential chefs in the world. Ramsay's TV persona is defined by his fiery temper, aggressive behaviour, strict demeanour, and frequent use of profanity, while making blunt, critical, and controversial comments, including insults and sardonic wisecracks about contestants and their cooking abilities. He combines activities in the television, film, hospitality and food industries, and has promoted and hired various chefs who have apprenticed under his wing. He is known for presenting television programmes about competitive cookery and food, such as the British series Hell's Kitchen (2004), Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares (2004–2009, 2014), and The F Word (2005–2010), with Kitchen Nightmares winning the 2005 British Academy Television Award for Best Feature, and the American versions of Hell's Kitchen (2005–present), Kitchen Nightmares (2007–present), MasterChef (2010–present), and MasterChef Junior (2013–present), as well as Hotel Hell (2012–2016), Gordon Behind Bars (2012), Gordon Ramsay's 24 Hours to Hell and Back (2018–2020), and Next Level Chef (2022–present). Ramsay was appointed an OBE by Queen Elizabeth II in the 2006 New Year Honours list for services to the hospitality industry. He was named the top chef in the UK at the 2000 Catey Awards, and in July 2006 he won the Catey for Independent Restaurateur of the Year, becoming the third person to win three Catey Awards. Forbes listed his 2020 earnings at US $70 million and ranked him at No.19 on its list of the highest-earning celebrities.
I started cooking a dish in Ramsay in 10 called Warung-style fried noodles on 11/23/2021. I honestly didn’t prepare well when I wanted to cook this dish. I was at the supermarket and wanted to eat noodles but I didn’t have a copy of the recipe with me so I couldn’t buy all of the ingredients. I bought what I could remember from reading the recipe previously. So in this dish on my first attempt, I missed ground coriander, ginger and garlic paste. I did use fresh garlic though. I substituted shrimp for bacon and sweet potatoes starch noodles instead of flat rice noodles as well as mung bean sprouts instead of bean sprouts. Oh! And leek instead of scallions. Despite missing a few ingredients, I enjoyed the meal a lot. I planned to cook this dish again soon! I cooked a big portion so it didn’t meet 10 minutes mark. But I had second helpings! The recipe was easy to follow. If you have an oriental market nearby, you can find all ingredients in there I believe. I got the noodles, bok choy, leek, and sprouts at a Korean supermarket near my house.
On 12/11/2021 I tried cooking Blackened steak with kimchi fried rice. I skipped the pickled radish portion of this dish. The only missing ingredient in this dish was the chopped chili. I didn’t want it spicy in case my kids eat it. One mistake I made was my misunderstanding of the recipe. I didn’t know to cook the flank steak as a whole piece or cut up. I cut it out before cooking so it came out well done instead of medium. I loved this meal. It was definitely quick to cook. Again, I visited a Korean supermarket for kimchi but you could buy it at Costco. This cookbook introduced me to flank steak. It’s my first time eating it. I have eaten prime rib eye, filet mignon, t-bone, but not this.
The title of this book says Ramsay in 10 is a promise that every dish in this book will take 10 minutes to prepare and 10 minutes to cook. But of course, that’s only for chefs, chef Gordon explains it as well in his introduction page that it will take us longer when we cook it at home only because we don’t know the recipe well. That doesn’t mean the servings are for just one or two. I see there are many dishes meant for four people too. This cookbook opens up to a table of contents. There are pictures of the chef, Gordon Ramsay cooking with his family throughout the book. Next, an introduction page, introduces readers that this cookbook was inspired by his YouTube channel. I rarely watch YouTube because I’m racing to read as many books as I can because I’m a book reviewer so I don’t know Gordon Ramsay and his cooking channel. My mom likes to cook so she knows him and watches his YouTube channel. I know him now because I have his cookbook on my shelf and I’m reading about him!
There’s a page to give readers an overview of the cookbook. There are recipes for Fast Food, Great Food, Clever Short Cuts, etc and explanations to symbols such as V for Vegetarian dishes and VG for Vegan dishes. Another page chef Gordon wants and it’s for readers to follow a few rules to guarantee cooking good food fast. Those are to buy good fresh ingredients, to buy chopped ready cooked ingredients, to read recipes before you cook, to get organized, and more. Reading through this page taught me about grill pan. Looks like I need one!
I like reading through the explanations of different pastes under the page chef Gordon called Quick-fix flavors. I love that this cookbook uses pastes from Middle Eastern, Japan, Korean, Indonesia, etc because that means that there are recipes to meet everyone’s taste. To me, I’m excited to try other countries’ foods! I’m not sure about trying anchovy paste though! I probably won’t use the short-cut ingredients because I like fresh foods if I can find it. From the list, I see ginger/garlic paste are among them. I guess it was fine that I used fresh garlic in the warung-style noodles. I like the advice on using unsalted butter to cook. But how can I tell my lemons is unwaxed?
Ramsay in 10 cookbook is organized in this order: Eggs & Cheese, Pasta, Rice & Noodles, Chicken & Duck, Beef, Lamb & Pork, Fish & Seafood, Vegetarian & Vegan, and Desserts which were all listed under table of contents.
I love this cookbook. There are so many dishes I want to eat! I recently watched a little bit of Ramsay’s Uncharted on Disney+ when he traveled to Laos to experience their cooking and fishing. He swears a lot but TV bleeps it out lol.
Thanks to Grand Central Publishing for sending me this book, I really liked it.
Gordon Ramsay has written a cookbook with recipes that can be done in 10 minutes. That’s pretty ambitious but I think he’s pulled it off. The recipes are easy and still delicious, without sacrificing flavor. I’m going to make/have already made the following:
- Spiced Spatchcock Chicken with Green Goddess Dressing. This was delicious, although the chicken took 15 minutes to cook. - Balsamic Lamb Chops with Tomato Salad and Anchovy Dressing. This was so good, and very easy. - Fish and Chips - Shrimp Scampi with Angel Hair Pasta - Rhubarb and Marzipan Tarts with Orange Mascarpone and Toasted Almonds - Mini Cinnamon Doughnuts with Chili Chocolate Dipping Sauce
All in all this is a good, well written cookbook. 4 stars.
I read a lot of cookbooks and do a lot of cooking, and I have watched some of Gordon Ramsay's cooking shows (i.e "Cooking Nightmares," "Hotel Hell," and "Hell's Kitchen") so I'm familiar with his personality and style. This book revealed a kinder, gentler Ramsay, I'm happy to report. The recipes in this book were easy to follow, and the concept of being able to prepare them in 10 minutes(!) was too good to pass up. Even if it takes you longer than 10 minutes, it's still going to be less than a half hour. Who doesn't want dinner on the table "in a flash"? (That's the book's tag line). Additionally, these recipes promised to be full of flavor and they weren't the same dishes you see in every other "fast cooking" cookbook.
Another intriguing aspect was that the book evolved from the pandemic lockdown. Ramsay says in the introduction, "Then in March 2020 the world went into lockdown, and instead of sending a camera crew round to Gino D'Acampo's house, I ended up challenging myself while staying at home in Cornwall in the UK. My daughters were in charge of lighting and filming, and the dishes were our family favourites, all made with the ingredients we could get hold of locally."
Each recipe is accompanied by a full color photo, shot by professional photographer Jamie Orlando Smith, and there were several I marked that I'd like to make. One thing about the book that I enjoyed was the use of British/European terms and words - with translations for Americans. (i.e. rocket instead of arugula, heritage instead of heirloom veggies). And he adds little shortcuts and helpful "chef's tips" throughout that make you feel like he's really thinking about the reader.
This is a cookbook that will inspire you again or for the first time, and would also make a great gift.
This was interesting, it was not my favorite cookbook. Not any comfort food or great meals it was more a snack cookbook. It had no recipes that I wanted to try. The Mary Reader received this book from the publisher for review. A favorable review was not required and all views expressed are our own.
Between work, running errands, and all the extraneous activities that come with the holidays, it can be nearly impossible to find the time to cook at home. Over the last couple of weeks, I've fallen victim to ordering out more than I'd like to admit. Convenience has become more important than cooking something healthy. Worse, eating out for meals is much more expensive than cooking at home. Here's where celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay comes in to save the day. His publisher recently sent me a copy of his newest cookbook Ramsay in 10, a collection of recipes that promises delicious and healthy meals with a cook time of around ten minutes. Is that too good to be true? The only way to know for sure was to try out one of the recipes for myself.
In the introduction to the book, Ramsay concedes that recipes promising a meal in 30 minutes typically take an average home cook around 40-50 minutes altogether. He was inspired to try to beat that time. With his years of experience as a professional chef, Ramsay was able to cook most of the recipes in this collection within the timeframe allotted. That being said, he states that most home cooks will probably achieve the same meals in about 15-20 minutes. That's still not a bad trade-off! As the world shut down due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Chef Ramsay began challenging himself to produce a take on classic recipes as quickly as possible. He documented this undertaking on his YouTube channel and began to inspire viewers across the world to cook.
Browsing through the recipes, I was instantly drawn to the coconut chicken with sweet peanut dipping sauce. Even better, I already had most of the ingredients in my kitchen. Because Ramsay developed the recipes from lockdown, many of the ingredients are staples. I even had some coconut palm sugar in my panty, though most of the uncommon ingredients listed provide several options for substitutions. Armed with everything I needed (minus the tamarind paste that is listed as an optional add-in), I began to prep and cook the meal.
I was a bit skeptical of the promised cook time, but Ramsay really delivered a recipe that was quick to put together, easy enough to cook, and most importantly delicious. With the complete prep time, cook time, and plenty of pauses to capture photos of my progress for Instagram, it took me about 20 minutes to completely cook the meal. Perusing through the rest of the book, I already have my eye on several others to test out in the near future. My only gripe with the concept of Ramsay in 10 is that it doesn't really offer a complete meal. Yes, the entre is simple and tasty, but it isn't really enough food to make a full meal out of. I supplemented the coconut chicken with some steamed rice and sesame green beans. This gave me plenty to eat for my dinner and to have lunch out of the next day. All in all, Ramsay in 10 offers a variety of recipes that will appeal to cooks of all experience levels. Even better, each recipe is quick and accessible, allowing for healthy meals to be prepared at home in a short amount of time.
Super Green Pasta with Rocket, Almonds, and Lemon Warong-Style Fried Noodles Steak Sandwich Cornflake Chicken Sliders with Gochujang Mayonnaise* Chicken and Butternut Squash Curry Coconut Chicken with Sweet Peanut Dipping Sauce Treacle-glazed Gammon Steaks with Grilled Pineapple and Gunpowder Potatoes Lamb Chops with Smoked Chipotle Vinaigrette, Creamy Mashed Peas and Caramelized Potatoes Pork Tenderloin with Grilled Corn Salsa and Crispy Prosciutto Minced Beef Stir-Fry with Fried Rice Sausages and Mash with Caramelized Onion Gravy
And lots of great vegetarian options to try: Rainbow Salad California-Style Streetcorn Chowder Shrimp Scampi with Angel Hair Pasta
Desserts: American-Style Fluffy Pancakes with Flambed Pineapple Rhubarb and Marzipan Tarts with Orange Mascarpone and Toasted Almonds Croissant French Toast with Butterscotch Apples and Sesame Brittle Microwave Sticky Toffee Pudding Mini Cinnamon Doughnuts with Chili Chocolate Dipping Sauce
The book is exactly what it says on the cover, and it's done really well! Step by step clear instructions, simple ingredients (mostly, not just potatoes and bread but also no unicorn balls expected in the fridge), he knows his audience.
Looking at the recipes, I know for sure I won't be able to do them in ten minutes but that's okay, they are still very limited in complexity and so would suit anyone who's only starting to cook.
I'd say it aims to teach you to self organise in order to have the meal preparation easy and quick and not stretched into hours of slaving in the kitchen.

We are big fans of Ramsay’s food, on our trips to Vegas we try to eat at one of his restaurants every time and they are all fantastic. When I saw this book arrived I was beyond excited and my family is anxiously waiting for me to start making some recipes, I’ll let you know how it goes.
Thank you Grand Central Publishing and Gordon Ramsay for this gifted copy.
I love this recipe book! The recipes are bursting with flavor.
2-4 servings in each recipe, most are easy to double. Beautiful pictures for each recipe. Some Gluten free recipes—including a dessert, Eton mess, that will impress anyone! Some vegan/vegetarian recipes—the chowder is incredible. A scale is nice to have for most recipes, but guessing is ok too. It is not so kid friendly—only if the kids are adventurous. How accurate is the 10 minutes of prep work and 10 minutes cook time for the nonprofessional? For us, it has been more like 30-45 minutes. Gordon Ramsay even says some are over his goal time limit too. But for how incredible each dish is, it’s worth every minute.
Here are some of the dishes we’ve tried and enjoyed: -Lamb chops with smoked chipotle vinaigrette, creamy mashed peas and caramelised potatoes -super green pasta with rocket, almonds and lemon -Treacle-glazed gammon steaks with grilled pineapple and gunpowder potatoes
I’m genuinely surprised the average rating for this isn’t higher because of how incredible the recipes are. But then I read through some of the reviews, and most raters haven’t even tried a recipe.
Gordon knihu rozdelil na kapitoly: • Vajcia a syr • Cestoviny, ryža a rezance • Kurča a kačica • Hovädzie, jahňacie a bravčové • Ryby a plody mora • Vegetariánske a vegánske • Dezerty
V knihe Stačí 10 minút nájdete 100 chutných receptov inšpirovaných internetovým hitom Ramsay in 10, ktorú som si zvykol pozrieť občas aj ja...a musím povedať, že v telke ma baví viac ako v knihe:-)
This cookbook is based on Ramsey 's 10-minute cooking adventures on YouTube that started during the pandemic. All the recipes are designed to be prepped in 10 minutes and cooked in 10 minutes (though he admits some are a stretch).
There are some great recipes in here, and most of them even a kitchen clutz like me feels comfortable tackling. Many of the recipes feel more British or European in nature - just not things that are within our normal repertoire, which just makes it feel more difficult to adopt.
The photos are gorgeous and it definitely is a product of pandemic times with Ramsay cooking with his family in a home environment.
Recipes I'm excited to try include quick mushroom lasagna, cheese and chorizo torta, grilled salmon niçoise, and smoked salmon omelette.
Looking for quick meals? Give this one a try!
Thanks to @grandcentralpub for my copy of this book!
I adore Gordon Ramsay. He's got such an easy going way about him and you can tell he truly is the ultimate family man. That said, I really don't feel like 90% of the recipes in this book are ones that you'd make for a family for any occasion, let alone simply weeknight meals. While the ingredients might be easy to find and use, they're pretty exotic when factoring young palettes into the mix.
The pictures are stunning and the instructions are well laid out. Many of the recipes also look delicious. But I simply can't sign off on this book being one that's going to get much use in every day life.
** I was granted an ARC of this book from Grand Central Publishing in exchange for my honest opinion of the content. **
This is my first Gordon Ramsay cookbook and it may be my last... I found the 10 minute rule a bit dishonest. The majority of the recipes serve only 2, so, not family friendly. Prep time for most recipes for most home cooks would be close to 1o minutes alone! I only flagged 4 recipes in the entire book, so this doesn't merit buying it for me, I checked it out of the library. The photos are attractive and the organization of the book is straightforward. Several ingredients are kind of exotic and lots of recipes are strongly based on Asian and Middle Eastern flavors. This book did remind me that I have lots of cookbooks whose recipes I need to explore further. I haven't made anything from this book, and am uncertain if I'll make the ones I flagged.
Gordon Ramsay challenged himself to come up with recipes that could be made in 10 minutes or less, or at least no more than 10 minutes of prep work and 10 minutes of cook time. These recipes are perfect for people who have little to no time to be in the kitchen but love to cook, people like me!
I really appreciate the diversity of recipes in this cookbook and how the ingredients would, for the most part, be easy to find in almost any grocery store. I can't wait to start cooking through this book!
Thank you so much to Grand Central Publishing for the complimentary copy!
This is the 1st cookbook by Gordon Ramsay I’ve ever read and, to quote one of the best movies of all time (10 Things I Hate About You):
Chastity: I know you can be overwhelmed, and you can be underwhelmed, but can you ever just be whelmed?
Bianca: I think you can in Europe.
I applaud Chef for producing a cookbook during 2020/2021, but much like the other cookbook that have come out during the panini (Pioneer Woman’s and Rachael Ray’s both spring to mind), they all feel lacking in something and I can’t quite put my finger on what it is.
I would describe this book as proof that really amazing food can be cooked in a really short amount of time. After all, Gordon Ramsay is the GOAT. But, it’s not the kind of cookbook that would be terribly useful for me if I only had 10 min to cook. It’s smaller portions than I’d need, a lot of ingredients I wouldn’t just have without careful planning, etc. The food looks great though.
I love Gordon Ramsay. He's a great character and I'm sure a great chef. I swear by his YouTube "How to Cook a Steak" video. But there's not one recipe in this book I would make. It would take more than 10 minutes to even find half of the exotic ingredients he uses.
First, all those 10 minute recipes would definitely take me at least an hour. Second, I am an adventurous cook, but many of these recipes call for ingredients not to be found in my local markets and Third, he lost me at beetroot falafel wraps.
Good recipes, but I don't feel like very many of these recipes are a meal per say. I also think that the majority of these recipes are not really created with family in mind.
Just read this book and copied some of the recipes so I can make some of this food. I would remand it. I love Gordon Ramsay and the show Master Chef and Master Chef JR.
I have not seen the YouTube show these recipes are based on, but it has piqued my interest after "reading" this cookbook. I like that you can make all these recipes pretty quick, but many of them seem like ingredients I would have to shop for (ie: not having on hand). As always, I love the images in Gordon Ramsay's cookbooks. I am looking forward to at least trying a few recipes.
***I received a complimentary copy of this hardcover from the publisher. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.***
