Stephen McCraine's Space Boy volumes 4-6 in one book! To Amy, everyone has a flavor. Well, almost everyone...Just as Amy is finally feeling that she's made a true connection with the mysterious, flavorless Oliver, their entire relationship is rattled--possibly forever. After a crushing confrontation, Amy hunts for a way to reconnect with Oliver, but each new lead to his identity leaves her with more questions than answers and rising tension with her friends. As relationships shift, Amy learns that even if she can't fix everything for her friends, it still means something to be there with them. And an extra credit project might just help Amy discover answers to some of the mysteries surrounding Oliver. A sci-fi drama of a high school aged girl who belongs in a different time, a boy possessed by emptiness as deep as space, an alien artifact, mysterious murder, and a love that crosses light years. Collects Stephen McCranie's Space Boy volumes 4-6.

I know I'm not really the target audience for this...but I cannot express how much I love Space Boy!!! I am so glad I stumbled across it on Webtoon. I've fallen in love with each and every character (especially Oliver 😜) and I'm so invested in their story now....I can't wait to continue their adventures!!
Another great one! The quote on the back says, “If you’re into unique and unusual sci-fi stories that are character-driven…I highly recommend you check out space boy.” Couldn’t agree more! This second omnibus continues with the same impressive quality as the first. This one brought a lot of new developments, some I’d been hoping for and envisioning, and some that caught me off guard in a good way. There’s clearly a lot of depth of plot and each character has their own arc going on; I’m pleased to report each thread is holding my interest. I admire how the bigger/sinister plot point clues are sprinkled sparingly into the background. You have to gather them up to keep track, otherwise you’ll get lost in all the people stories. Also, as an added bonus, we even get a little ‘feet’ exposition! There’s so much story to tell; I’m really excited to see where it’s all going from here.
I used to read comic books all the time as a young kid. I find myself drawn back to the new form of graphic novels; the stories are so great and the art work is also excellent. Stephen McCranie's Space Boy Omnibus Volume 2 is the 2nd Omnibus collection of this series. It features Books 4 - 6 in the series.
This collection continues to advance Amy's story. In Omnibus 1, Amy and her family have to move from the space station where she grew up when her father's job was cancelled. After a 30 year journey back to Earth, she begins her new life in Kokomo City. In this 2nd Omnibus, Amy now has new friends and is adjusting to school life. A strange new friend is Oliver, a mysterious blonde boy who is in her classes. Slowly, he warms up to Amy (I mean who wouldn't as she's a wonderful character, filled with joy at her new experiences.)
We learn more about her new friends too, their relationships and the difficulties in them. We still don't know much about Oliver (is that his name?) and as Amy gets closer to him, her life is threatened by some mysterious organization that seems to control Oliver's life.
So there is great artwork (even if Amy doesn't have feet.. 😀), the characters getting richer all the time, and this hidden mystery. Teen angst, friendships, school life, neat technology, all form a rich part of this excellent YA graphic novel. But who the heck is Oliver!!!! (4.5 stars)
Okay, two things! One: Why can I not put down this comic until I read it front to back? It’s gripping and so relatable in a way I can’t explain. Like it’s telling my life story through these characters. Two: I just loved how the author explained the absence of Amy’s feet…one of the first details I ever noticed abt the comic! Got used to it though, Lol. That makes so much sense! Poor guy!
This is a great way to read this series, as the individual issues are relatively short and flow together. There's no down time between the volumes that makes an obvious break (end of term, summer, etc.). The series is a little slow to get to the titular part of the story; each issue is busy with day-to-day high school stuff.
An interesting end note by the author on the themes, motifs, and shapes used to build these illustrations.
This volume does not complete the story, so there's more to come.
I actually read these all separately (up to 8 so far), but they each only took me 20-30 minutes to read, so I'm just counting the first 6 volumes as 2 books.
I love character driven stories. I love the ins and outs of characters trying to piece together a mystery. And I really do love the warm and cozy nature of this comic. I'm currently on a mission to collect all the omnibus's.
Still interesting, still cute but I enjoyed the 2nd omnibus slight less than the first. there were a few stray ideas that made the previous a little better in my opinion. Overall though I have no regrets reading it and will continue to read wherever the story picks up.
I just love this series so much. Its curious and light hearted but whimsical and deep. It makes me feel all the feelings and I'm so curious about what's going on. I can't wait to read more!
