"No matter how you were born you can only be yourself. You are the only one who can ever become 'you.'"
I'll be honest and say that I cried quite a few times reading this final volume and not even sure I can get all my feelings written down even if I wanted to. I feel I could reread this volume again and still catch things I might have missed in the waves of emotions I felt at a variety of moments when reading the first time.
Truthfully, this was an incredible story that inspired and challenged me as well as made me laugh and cry with these wonderful characters. I expected to get a romance that was different than anything else I read, and yes, I did get that. However, this story brings so so so much more! I feel this is the kind of series you can share with others and tell them how shojo manga is not just romance. This final conclusion breaks down all the barriers that each volume had been slowly chipping away at, but also has an important and big message of loving yourself. For embracing you, flaws and all. It was extremely powerful and definitely made me cry. <3
I LOVED the bonus chapters and THAT COLORED PAGE! :o :o :o I had no idea that was even a thing in this series, so that was fun! While I cried before that, those chapters were lighthearted and made me laugh. It made this series such an amazing reading experience and one that challenges you to love those around you and yourself.
Overall, maybe this review really didn't say much, but the one thing I can say is that I am so grateful I read this series. I have loved these characters and the adventures they have taken me on. I very much look forward to the anime and having another chance to revisit these characters again but on screen.
Highly recommend if you like slow burn romance, characters who grow and change, politics, and powerful themes that challenge and inspire you to want to change too. <3
Simple story with well-developed characters it was quite an intriguing read with different kinds of plot twists except for the pacing of the story for me it felt a bit draggy otherwise it sure is a good manga.
This series was pretty average. It didn't do anything to piss me off but it also didn't do anything to grab me. The relationship between Sari and the beast king happened so fast, in the first volume! I think it would have been much better to slowly establish the relationship, I really dislike when mangaka make their characters fall in love in the first volume, why the rush? You could develop the relationship over several volumes and make it feel more organic. Other than that the story got quite repetitive and always involved Sari saving someone or changing their mind so that they like humans. The conflicts and story arcs always felt very convenient both in their happening and their solving.
A really strong series overall. I loved the art, characters, and worldbuilding. I just think it ended too soon and after 14 volumes depicting the deep hatred between the species, it was all resolved a little too neatly and cutely. I would've liked to have seen further political stuff, like diplomatic talks between the humans and beasts. Or more of the OTP's married life. But for what we got it's decent enough.
I did screech loudly when Leonhart cut his long luscious human locks. Thank god I only had to stare at it for a single volume. Lol.
Guilty pleasure for me. I had to make an effort to ignore the endless problematic things in this story. And since the ending was clear from the first volume, there wasn't much anticipation or excitement. I just wanted to finish it so I could let it go.
I still enjoyed the fluffiness and weightlessness of the story.
Full 15-volume series review Review of volume 1 here
This was a fun series that surprised me with its ability to sustain the story over many volumes. The premise is simple--a girl chosen as a human sacrifice to the beast king, discovers the king actually lets the human sacrifices escape, but with no family or human ties to return to, she asks to stay with him--and initially the story goes very fast, which I assumed was to hook readers (in its original format as monthly published chapters). Once that foundation has been established, the story has time to slow down, explore the characters and their feelings, as well as the world it's set in.
I wrote in my review of the first volume that the sacrifice/titular "princess" Sariphi has a good deal of nihilism she keeps mostly hidden under a veneer of carefree gaiety, which sets her apart a bit from the expected type of heroine in a "Beauty and the Beast"-type situation like this. Sariphi doesn't stay out of a sense of duty to humans or honor, but because she has literally no ties to the humans anymore--nothing matters, so she might as well see if she can stay. Because she has no fear of death--both because she believes the king is a good man, and because, again with the nihilism thing, she really didn't care if she died--she is free to express her natural curiosity and good humor despite the disapproval of other court figures.
As the series goes on, we see Sariphi move to a state of actual caring. It's not a huge change, because it's there in her personality all along, but the first time she realizes she doesn't want to die--not because she feels she owes something to the king, but because she just doesn't want to die, she wants to live--is a turning point.
There's a good number of additional characters, which enliven the story and flesh out the setting of this beast kingdom that neighbors a human kingdom. One of the reasons this is a fun read is that the focus sometimes takes a break from Sariphi and the king to follow her friend/lady-in-waiting, a reptilian princess, or the captain of the guard, or the king's highest advisor. The story easily could've been a bit longer to hold more secondary character-specific chapters.
Despite its length, the story as a whole had room for more. There's a good amount here that was shown or discussed briefly, but had the potential for longer story arcs by themselves: the history of the beast and human kingdoms individually and together; the mixing of humans and beasts on a personal level despite prohibitions against doing so by both kingdoms; the existence of the miasma that gives beastfolk powers; the history, personality and current work of people like the judge, the captain of the guard, and other court officials...I was fine with it because it's a story for teens and not an adult-level historical/political fantasy, but there was definitely room for at least an entire additional volume, if not two, split into smaller arcs.
With his secret exposed as he is displayed before his people in his human form Leonhart is at the mercy of the mad usurper Set whose views of species supremacy have already caused chaos among many of the beast kingdom. Those that are loyal will rise up against tyranny as each person does their part to reach for the happy ending they deserve and I demand (I mean just look at that cover.)
As the last book of the series everything ties up nicely leaving enough space for future adventures if wanted but not requiring them. Along with the fate of Set we see Leonhart finally discovers the truth of his past and how the kingdoms will react at the news that their king is not a pure blooded beast. Of course as you can guess by the cover no matter what happens the love between Sariphi and Leonhart does not suffer regardless of the hardships they have shared on this journey of discovery and acceptance with some glimpses of what is yet to come as they walk side by side into the future. Be sure to stick to the end though because there are additional short stories and the final chapter of "The Beast Princess and the Regular King" I won't spoil the additional stories but I can tell you all that some of my favorite parts of them are Sariphi related as we see she has glasses in one of them and we get a glimpse of her years late grown into a fine queen.
Honestly I had to put the book down a few times as the joy of what I felt as I read this momentous volume was making me tear up a bit and it was getting a little hard to read. I am glad I got a chance to not only experience this series with its many interesting characters but got to see how it ended considering it has long since become one of my favorites that I would be willing to suggest to anyone that enjoys stories about finding love regardless of the odds and diversity. :)
While the arc & villain that this finale/final volume is not as strong as previous arcs in this series (especially compared to the arc & villain that just came before this one), my minor nitpicks with these two things(believe me, my nitpicks are truly and utterly minor) do not ruin the series and this finale/final volume for me <3 When it came to the emotional storytelling/emotional beats & moments/art for this final volume, it hits it out of the park and succeeds tremendously <3! This series didn't go for too long, it didn't make itself too complicated or too simple, it is the perfect classic manga series that deserves to be remembered by the manga community for years to come <3 I am so glad that it is getting an anime adaption and that it was able to end on a high note (an ending/note that it truly deserves), thus cementing as my second favorite manga series of all time <3 Do yourself a favor and read this precious, wonderful series <3 It will not regret it <3
A really great way to end the series as we finally get to see everyone recognize Sariphi and finally Leonhart feels accepted by his own people and even learns about his own past. I do like how this story set ups and resolved the idea of birthright vs choice and it does a good job developing that ideas as all of the major villains from Fenrir and Set and does a good job of exploring the ideas that people should not be judged on things they can't change like race but instead judged on how they are as a person which is a lesson that sadly is still debated to this day. All of the characters are memorable and I do like that Sariphi's kindness is repaid in this volume as we see past characters return to make a stand with her. Sariphi in general is a great character who shows kindness and compassion can come from anywhere and that it is not a sign of weakness but of strength.
I initially started reading this after seeing it’s similarity to The Ancient Magus’ Bride and while it was a bit slow in the beginning, I’m glad I kept reading since I ended up really enjoying this series. I adored watching Leonhart and Sariphi’s journey together and seeing their relationship flourish despite some of the hardships they faced. Princess Amit and Lanteveldt were such loveable secondary characters, and even Anubis gradually became a fond character. I heard that there’s a sequel manga in the works that focuses on Leonhart and Sariphi’s son, as well as an anime adaptation coming sometime next year, so I’m excited to see more from this series.
My goodness! I just experienced a roller coaster of emotions because of this stupid book and these stupid characters! In fact, I think I would rank this up there with my favorite romance manga/anime or all time, “Snow White with the Red Hair.” While I didn’t get the squirmy butterfly feelings that happen when reading about Shirayuki and Zen, I still fell in love with the way these characters showed their beliefs and love. Love for oneself and their subjects….
However, Set can go f-off because he sucks (big time).
Finally had time to sit and finish this manga series and oh boy. I love love love a good political conflict in my romance storyline even though I can’t stand politics in real life.
The end of this series was super satisfying in both the romance and the ongoing race and political issues the characters were trying to mend. Definitely recommend if you enjoy a good cuddly fantasy with a pinch of social injustice to deal with.
Sad because I've been reading this series since 2019 and now it's completed. It's done. The story has ended, and it's always sad whenever you finish the movie.
Happy because it ended on a good note. And also because given the anime adaptation news, more interest has been drawn to the story, which is amazing because it's so good. It's a really good series.
That was a nice ending! Altho I was laughing a bit when the king tried to be like “maybe I shouldn’t be king anymore” and all of the people were like “hell no!! we all just risked our lives getting the crown back for you and also you’re getting rid of the racism. we really really want you to keep being king.” 😂

This series is not the most overwhelming one I've read, but it's very sweet. The message is clear and it's nice to see all of the good deeds pay off. This is a perfect book for those looking for a fantasy setting romance without PG 13 material.
I almost cried at the end! More than a year to have the final volume, but it was so worthy! Arigatou gozaimasu Tomofuji-sensei! The end was perfect, and the epilogue sweet. I did buy this one, it's a most! I fell in love with this manga, and I can't wait to have more news on the anime.
3.5 Stars. While the series had a few hiccups for me, it was an imaginative and sweet story that I mostly enjoyed and I was glad for the complete happy ending. May binge re-read the full series someday to experience the full emotional effect.
I can’t believe it is over. This was an almost perfect series for me. I am content with the end. I heard that a sequel is coming out about the little Prince. To be honest I’d be happy with a whole new story from this mangaka as well. They are talented in so many ways.
Loved this whole series. The ending was very predictable from volume 1, but I still had so much fun going on this journey and meeting so many interesting characters. I wish the heroine would have been a bit older, as she was definitely too wise in my eyes for a 15 year old :D
The perfect book to start off my new year! This is a manga series that I will promote at work, and re-read as I please. I cannot put my love for this series into words! You just have to read it to know this feeling! <3
It’s hard to believe this series is already over. It’s been such a pleasure to get to follow these characters, each lovable in their own way. One of the funnest, best beauty and the beast series I’ve ever read.
