THIS SERIES TRULY GETS BETTER WITH EACH VOLUME!!

Yona and the gang are currently in the Fire Tribe area, and politically things are heating up a lot. We have betrayals afoot as well, so this new arc of the story is going to be a hard one I think.

It doesn't change the fact that the story is lush, and engaging, and I can't help but hurry and finish the volumes as soon as they are in my possession.

VIDEO REVIEW HERE: https://youtu.be/iT5HciwzgJw

"People are constantly asking me whether I want vengeance. Is it really that strange to NOT seek revenge? . . . I just follow my heart. I want to help the people I meet. If I can help make them happy that's what matters to me."

I had such a blast reading this volume and wish the humor and "lightheartedness" was as strong and prevalent throughout the series as it is this one! Granted, that's not to say they're isn't humor in the series (because there is), but I think the only thing stopping me from calling this series a "favorite" is the intensity of the events leading up to the battles and the battles themselves which are usually heavy and mentally taxing for me. That's not to say that I dislike this story because I definitely don't (and have at times enjoyed some of the battles depending on the intensity of it)! I truly enjoyed what I've been reading and totally treasure these characters. (I don't know what I'm going to do when I'm officially caught up on this series...) I just have a strong preference for lighter fiction and this volume only clarified to me how true that is for me personally.

Anyway, ramble aside, I laughed SO hard for much of this volume and LOVE seeing Tae-jun shine on page! I officially need merch of him because he is such a fun character and thoroughly enjoyed him once again! Probably even more so because his brother had soooo many shenanigans in this one alongside him! LOL!! That one scene near the beginning that involves all the Dragons, but specifically Gija was so hilarious!

And speaking of Gija, he had some really great moments in this volume and made me really happy because he is my second favorite dragon! It was nice to see him shine and what made this volume all the more better is because some Gija pins I ordered came in the mail today! <3 I have loved seeing him mature and grow from the young man we met at the very beginning. He is so so so wonderful! *happy sobs*

I really really loved meeting a new character in this one! I know she is a minor character, but her influence is strong and truly hope we meet her again!

Going back to that quote I shared above, that is so beautifully worded by Yona. Maybe beautiful isn't the right word, but I can't help but respect her more for voicing it. I don't think anyone was unaffected in that room and really admire her more then I already have. I don't know what I want her outcome to be when it comes to the throne, but I'll gladly continue to follow her adventures to see how her story unfolds. <3

I do NOT like that advisor. I don't think I've ever liked him, but the more I see of him, the more I dislike him. Su-won may get hate, but I honestly feel this guy deserves it more because I think if anything happens in future volumes to Yona, its going to be because of him, NOT Su-won. Just my speculation and could be totally wrong, but this guy is excellent as his position and unlike Su-won, is not dictated(?) by his emotions or previous relationship to do what needs to be done to keep him (Su-won) on the throne.

Ughhhhh to those last few pages though! Just UGHHHHHH! I'm going to have some confidence in this character, but man, if things go south (or maybe north), any kind of respect I had for him will go out the window...

Lastly, because this wouldn't be a real review if I didn't mention Sinha with fangirling, this is me mentioning that he continues to be coolest and adore his character so much. The way he cares for his friends and fights for them is everything! Plus, "Anyone who gives her food can't be a bad person." Sinha, you are so pure! *sobs*

“If you do not honor your saviors, no one will come to save you in kind.”

Unrest swells in the Fire Tribe and bad omens manifest.

There really was no need to further complicate things but, of course, that would be way too easy and we need to cause as much strife as it is possible. All of it, so naturally had and continuing the string of events that have been occurring.

Lady Iguni was not someone I was expecting to get so late in the game but I really liked her quiet strength and wise presence; she might seem cold but she has a heart of gold. And the new mysteries that she introduces us to, new avenues of thought that had previously been left alone, are as appealing and intriguing as all of them have been.

My heart nearly left my chest on more than one occasion, but that is more than expected at this point.

“Everyone keeps asking whether I want revenge. Is it so strange for me not to get revenge? What would I even do after striking him down? Stay on the run forever? Seat myself on the throne? Of course I can’t. I can never forget the day my father died, and I do not intend to forgive him. I just love the same country that my father loved. I just want to follow where my heart guides and help the people I meet along the way. And if I achieve happiness that way, then that’s fine.”

Leer Yona siempre es una experiencia. En esta ocasión, se ha tratado de un tomo más de transición, preparando lo que está por venir, pero ha servido para presentar y desarrollar personajes secundarios cuyo papel será muy importante.

This cover is so PRETTY!!!! Just look at how gorgeous it is! 😍😍😍😍

I gotta say, the Happy Hungry Bunch does nothing but get into the weirdest trouble ever. And it’s totally HILARIOUS! 🤣 These guys dig themselves into the strangest holes then do the most absurd things to get out of said holes. These characters are such dorks and throw Tae-Jun in the mix and it just gets funnier and funnier the deeper and deeper they dig themselves.

All humor aside, these characters have grown SO MUCH, which I know I say A LOT but it’s so, so true and amazing to see how and in what ways—some drastic, some much more subtle—these characters have grown into one big, happy family I love to pieces. Like at one point Gija defends his brothers and it’s so emotional at how he has gone from just wanting to protect Yona to extending that protectiveness to everyone. Hak is similar and even Yona won’t let them go without her because she loves them so much, and they’re her family now. *brb while I go cry over my precious babies* It’s so, so beautiful. 😭🥰

Adviser Keishuk we can kill anytime now. I hate that guy—he’s SO ANNOYING, and I don’t trust him one bit. And Yona’s speech on not taking revenge—SO GOOD and POWERFUL, oh my goodness she’s so wise and wonderful and I just love her so, so much. She is such an inspiration. And why are Yona and Hak always interrupted when they’re about to tell each other something important?!? It’s both frustrating and funny.

And the way it ended…no, don’t go with him!!!! It’s a trap! #starwarsquote 😜

Content: some people grab Yona and Gija’s arms and won’t let go when told too, a child is nearly trampled by a horse (she’s rescued), mild swearing, the guys go to a hot bath and all we see are their bare chests and legs, it’s mentioned a covered man is naked (nothing is shown), someone is slammed on the head and knocked unconscious (with an IMPRESSIVE bump, I might add 😂), Hak and Yona are put in a room with a bedroom clearly meant for…er, seducing (nothing happens and both Yona and Hak are shocked/mortified when they first discover it), Yona is also given a perfume that’s meant to “seduce men” (she doesn’t know it at first)—this whole scene is written as funny/embarrassing for the characters not sexy, violence and blood (nothing over PG-13)

Princess Yona is the pampered daughter of her kingdom's king. Isolated and doted on she has two childhood friends, Hak, a general who also protects her and her cousin, Suwon who helped her mourn her mother's passing and who she is crushing on big time. On her 16th birthday her entire world implodes to to a crippling betrayal... She must decide if she will fall in line or rise up and take back her kingdom.

We build on the events happening in the fire tribe with this volume and get a stronger sense of what’s going down. There were many funny moments in this volume that made me cackle out loud. We meet a new character in the fire tribe and I was as excited as Yona to hear what she had to say.

Advisor Keishuk becomes a big player in this volume. He makes a great villain to hate on as he is the type to take out anyone who stands in his way, even good guys. It felt a touch repetitive how he decides to attack our dragon gang but it makes sense as he knows more than he should at this point.

I’m really excited for the next step as Hak and some of the dragons mobilize to fight off an invasion. Yona of the Dawn is a wild ride with royalty, dragons, friendship, humor and a slow burn romance for the ages.

Covers Chapters 158-163

We’re back in Saika in this arc. The Fire Tribe is standing with Yona and the bunch. The advisor of Su-Won isn’t too thrilled about it. And Ogi what’re you about to do?? asdfghjkl I can see next volume being a hot mess of things lol

4.75/5 stars

I was worried this wouldn't be as funny the second time around, but there was no need! Not sure what it says about me, that I find that whole debacle so funny to the point where I am crying and my husband is checking up on me, but there is something extra special about seeing your most loathsome character making the stupidest faces.

4.75/5 stars

After fighting alongside the Fire Tribe, Yona and crew spend some time in Saika castle, but unfortunately Advisor Kye-sook is causing our heroes grief, and Gobi continues to be a problem.

I owe this volume a higher rating than I’ve given most others because this is the first time a volume has made me cry. That gag involving Kyo-ga had me laughing so hard I was finding it difficult to breathe, and I literally laughed until I cried. One of the reasons I love this series so much it because of how funny I find it.

Not too much plot progression happens in this volume, but we do get more world building, as it is brought home just how much the Fire Tribe worships the dragon gods. Of course this isn’t necessarily a good thing, and if it’s Kusanagi’s goal to make me fear for the safety of the dragons because of how much the general populace obsesses over their power, then she is very much succeeding. I would greatly appreciate it if people could keep their hands to themselves when it comes to our heroes, and after that last story arc it’s clear this has become a source of anxiety for the dragons as well.

We also get to spend more time with Advisor Kye-sook in this volume, and he’s really awful. He's an interesting character in that he’s super cold and calculating while still ultimately wanting what is best for Kohka, but oh how I dislike him. Tae-jun and Kyo-ga’s mother was also an interesting addition to the cast, and I really appreciated hearing a bit about Yona’s mother. They’re wearing the same earrings so I assume Yona’s mom gave them to her.

As for that ending, I really don’t like the direction this arc is heading in because kidnapping plots are never my favourite.

Some of my thoughts while reading:

Len máloktorý autor dokáže takto bravúrne skombinovať fantasy a romantickú linku, aby sa čitateľ nikdy nenudil a zakaždým otáčal ďalšiu stranu.

This was an alright volume. I already know what’s going to happen so I’m dreading continuing.

RECAP: Yona and gang are in fire country, Taejun is housing them in secret. Shenanigans. Unrest. Advisor shows up and is a dick. Everyone else is chilling. They ask the four beasts to fight. Hak decided to fight with Gija and Sinha and the rest go with Ogi somewhere.

So, it was uneventful, more build up than anything. The Taejun confront Hak about what he told them back in the palace was hilarious though. Hak is just so casual about his love for Yona, I love it.

The first 3 chapters in this volume are fucking hilarious!!! I missed this gang just being the chaotic bunch that they are, post-battle. This time with Kang Tae-Jun in the mix, someone who's slowly warming up to Hak, and it seems to me as well.

The tension in the final scenes in this is so palpable, I almost don't want to pick up the next volume. I just know the coming chapters and volumes are gonna break my heart 🥺

Volume 28
158. "Rumors"
159. "Tae-jun's Carelessness"
160. "Keishuk from Above"
161. "Lady Igni Is Not Amused"
162. "A Bargain"
163. "Lend Me a Hand"

Hak confidently and casually proclaims his love for Yona to Taejun is so cute.

Advisor Kye-sook's growing feelings of threat for Yona intensify as his plans with Suwoon come closer to fruition. Advisor Kye-sook has a punchable face. I hate him more than General Judo.

This volume was so awkwardly hilarious, while at the same time having a few interesting developments in the plot. I have to say, I don't like the advisor dude in the slightest (can't remember his name 😅), and the way people like him act around Zeno is despicable. Poor Zeno... 🥺

Ugh, the ending! I didn't need a cliffhanger like that!
