Ilona Andrews is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.)
Gordon and Ilona currently reside in Oregon with their two children, three dogs and a cat. They have co-authored two series, the bestselling urban fantasy of Kate Daniels and romantic urban fantasy of The Edge.
This is the backstory to how Rogan requested the little girl to help with the storm. The dialogue was a little stilted, but it was an interesting read.
Rogan's POV how he went to visit the weather Marge family in Austin. I just put it here to leave the link to Ilona Andrew's webpage: https://ilona-andrews.com/blog/rogan-...
It seems like there was supposed to be a Part 2 to this which is what a desperately need. My heart sings at the thought of seeing Rohan’s POV during Nevada’s date.
This didn't really add anything, except to say that Rogan has another friend...? Which it doesn't make any sense for him to have, as the series has basically already established that he doesn't have friends. The further we get into the series, the less he feels like he could have EVER been the man he was in the first book in this series. They are smoothing the rough edges, retrospectively, and it feels weird. Also, once again, it feels like the authors might have pulled from things that happen after THIS to write it. So the timeline feels messed up.
Strum didn't say he was going to blame this on Rogan until AFTER Rogan came back from this trip, but in this story, Rogan says it's already happened. Whatever. Read it. Skip it. Not a big loss either way. It's short and adds nothing of significance, even possibly confusing existing facts and timelines. Read it if you feel like it, but I am not recommending it.
I loved going back to that time in Connor and Nevada's relationship and seeing a scene from his POV trying to get help from the weather primes while stewing over her date.
Series: Hidden Legacy #3.1 Rating: 3 stars - I liked it
A short scene about Rogan's visit to the Adé-Afẹ́fẹ́ house for assistance. It was interesting to see his anger and thought process about Nevada's date. Hopefully we will get his pov of that scene as well.
A free short story, 3.1 in the Hidden Legacy magical realism fantasy series, revolving around Nevada Baylor and Connor “Mad” Rogan in an alternative Houston, Texas.
My Take This particular scene involves Rogan’s trip to Austin seeking help from House Adé-Afẹ́fẹ́, and we finally find out what happened in this interview, the request for help.
As the title suggests, ahem, it’s Rogan’s perspective in first person protagonist point-of-view, and it appears that Prime Rogan has not completely grasped Prime politics. He does not present his argument to Adépérò Adé-Afẹ́fẹ́ very well.
Hmm, Connor remembers Táyọ̀ Adé-Afẹ́fẹ́ as a bully boy in sixth grade. He’s also wondering if his and Nevada’s relationship has a chance, and he’s determined not to influence her. Now that’s true love when you only want what’s best for the other.
The only real action is getting to Austin and walking in and out of Ilé Mọ̀lẹ́bí. As in the previous “Rogan POV”s, it’s primarily Rogan’s thoughts we hear with some chat between Táyọ̀ and Adépérò, which reveals some of House Rogan’s and House Adé-Afẹ́fẹ́’s past history. It also reveals the moral character of the Adé-Afẹ́fẹ́s. Nice.
The Story Rogan is desperate for aid from a weather Prime to counter Alexander Strum’s threat to destroy Houston.
The Characters Connor “Mad” Rogan, head of House Rogan, is a billionaire off-the-charts Prime, both telepathic and telekinetic.
Nevada Baylor, a private detective and co-owner of the Baylor Investigative Agency, has been revealed as a Prime Truthseeker, establishing House Baylor.
Garen Shaffer, a Prime Truthseeker of House Shaffer, is interested in Nevada now that’s she’s been revealed as a Prime Truthseeker.
Dr Táyọ̀ Adé-Afẹ́fẹ́ (Climate Sciences) is the youngest son of House Adé-Afẹ́fẹ́ — Crowned by the Wind in their native Yorùbá tongue. Their power is weather. His father, Adépérò Adé-Afẹ́fẹ́, calls Táyọ̀ Arákùnrin. Ọmọ́tọ́lá “Tọ́lá” Ogidan is Táyọ̀’s cousin.
Alexander Strum, a weather Prime and head of House Strum, intends to destroy Houston.
The Cover and Title The cover uses an image from the Ilona Andrews website depicting an aerial view of the Adé-Afẹ́fẹ́ home, Ilé Mọ̀lẹ́bí, high atop the cliffs overlooking the forested lake the Adé-Afẹ́fẹ́s saved all those years ago. I used white for all the text from the title at the top to the info on the book in which it takes place and the series info. The author’s name is at the bottom.
The title is accurate enough for it is Rogan’s POV #3 from Wildfire.
When I first saw Adeafefe in the book 3 I was like no way, has to be a coincidence that it's a weather clan and that afefe means wind in my language. Though Ade is a very common prefix to yoruba names (I have two names starting with Ade) so I was already doubting myself 😅.
In the end, I bookmarked the page with Omotola in it coz, why not 😁😁, it was just giving me joy mehn.
Then I came to read this Rohan's 3rd POV and it was like double joy man, I can't even explain why. I'm so happy Authors that you guys used my people and that Mad Rogan of few friends considered one of us (well, fictional us) his friend. It's always nice to see something cool and positive associated with my country Nigeria. Love it when they slipped our coat of arms into the story and even used tonal marks. I'm yoruba but even I don't use those... I don't know how 😅 so I definitely applaud your thoroughness in capturing the culture. Well done and thank you.
This short takes place during Wildfire when Rogan goes to meet Ade-Afefe in hopes of gaining the weather mage's assistance in preventing Houston's destruction. At the same time, Nevada is gearing up to meet with House Schaffer, and that clearly does not settle well even as Rogan tries to keep himself in check and be practical. At least if nothing else, he is aware of his own emotions in this part. It seems he might have a oddly friendly relationship with the weather mages as well, which is surprising given his reputation and usual demeanor.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Rogan's POV #3 takes place during Wildfire and helps explain what weather mages can do and how they alter weather conditions. While I thoroughly enjoy getting glimpses into the Hidden Legacy world through other character's eyes, this one was rather dull. Rogan's POV #3 can be found here... https://ilona-andrews.com/2017/rogan-...
This extra is a short scene from Wildfire from Ronan's perspective.
This is not necessary to understand the book, and now that we know about who Rogan is, these asides are less interesting, although we get to see something he was doing that was not obvious in the book. For readers of the series, this is a nice little add-on.
I highly enjoyed reading this small bit. I really wanted to know what happened in this meeting when it was briefly mentioned in Wildfire and with the guest appearance.
I have to say I REALLY want to know more about the Adé-Afẹ́fẹ́ family. They seem really interesting. I would totally read a series with them as the main characters.
This read more like Rogan's personality than the earlier POV chapters. It was fairly light-hearted and showed how negotiations work between different Houses. It was nice to see Rogan jealous for once too - especially given how many women throw themselves at him during the main series, which frustrates Nevada (AND ME).
This just made me want a series from Rogan's perspective. Which is not fair. They aren't even in the Stone Legacy series all that much it could easily be parallel with a little tiny bit of crossover.
Yeah, this is fine. It’s a good little extra bit - but I was, of course, hoping for a segment where he reveals some of his thinking around Nevada. I wanna witness his totally obsession for her. I’m gone for Rogan being gone for Nevada. Ha!
Probably more of a 3.5, but rounded up. Rogan tries to buy/win an ally during house politics threats of war, while also worrying about Nevada being propositioned by another man.
