It’s about you.”The Addiction Manifesto has been uniquely designed to provide you with a new perspective on recovery and will show you that anything is possible. In this deeply personal book, JR Weaver has crafted a raw insight into his life and how he’s been affected by substance abuse over the past 20 years. His realistic approach details his journey to try to have a normal life again. If you’re going through addiction recovery or want to help someone who is… This book allows you to gain a greater understanding of substance abuse and its many challenges.
In this excellent book, the author describes his own battle with addiction and how he hit bottom and rose back up again. He describes addiction itself and how it will rob you of everything dear in life, and then try to take your life as well. He outlines his process to recovery in order to help others that struggle with with this as well. The process is well explained and easy to understand. Most importantly, he talks of the continuing battle even after recovery. There are also true stories from others who have fought this fight and found their lives again.
The stories from the author and many others are heartbreaking, and tell of how addiction robbed them of everything and everyone they held dear, and how they finally broke the chain and began to live again. For anyone who struggles with addiction or knows someone who does, this will be a helpful and poignant read. This is also an important book for anyone who just wants to better understand those who have struggled with this.
I received a free copy of this book via Zooloo’s Book Tours. My review is voluntary.
The life journey of JR Weaver is an inspirational read for those who are looking for motivation to overcome their drug addiction. The author encompasses all his abusive, demonic thoughts during his twenty-seven years of drug addiction, and he narrates how he slew the demons to find himself while opening up a new avenue of his life. Of course, it is a challenging task, yet anyone can achieve it if they realize how drugs take over life. Weaver used a conversational writing style to convince the need of sobriety. As a recovering addict, he has covered all the issues that an addict faces during his battle with drugs. He has lost almost his life including his family, relationships, and everything. He is regaining his new life after being clean and sober. The writer has included a set of real-life stories to awake the readers and he gradually builds up confidence within the readers' minds showing the amazing results of sobriety. The book is amazing, and I was able to finish it within a day. I recommend this book to everyone as it will unveil the reality of addiction.
I am not an addict and I have no experience of being close to anyone who is, but I think this book should be read by everyone regardless of personal circumstance. It is aimed at helping addicts/recovering addicts to see that there is always hope. There is always help, and there is always a way forward to a better life, for those that want it. Such an inspirational man, who talks openly and honestly about his battle with addiction. He is dedicated to helping others and I take my hat off to him. For me it gave an insight into the life and mind of an addict I would otherwise have no clue about. I think I will be much more understanding of people in these situations moving forward. It is easy to think, “well, no one forced them to take drugs or drink themselves into oblivion”, but it goes so much deeper than that and we should all be more aware of the hell some people are living and what led them there. JR Weaver’s story and those of the other recovering addicts who share their stories with us are truly eye-opening and incredibly moving. I purchased The Addiction Manifesto in July 2021 after featuring the author, JR Weaver, on my blog.
Tried really hard to get into this book but only got around 1/3 through it and couldn’t read any more. Each chapter just felt like he was repeating himself over and over again. I note this is clearly a big hit for readers but definitely wasn’t for me unfortunately.
Wholeheartedly recommended. The book The Addiction Manifesto by army veteran Jerry Weaver is an excellent read. JR weaver is frank and straightforward in sharing his experiences and feelings as a drug addict for 20 years. He took help from various organisations like AA, NA, and CA, which helped to rebuild his life. Even Fitness workouts, Reiki, Recovery Yoga and Positive Thinking made a lot of difference. JR Weaver has written this book to show people that addiction is a serious disease. He hopes that his experiences will help fellow addicts regain their lives or help enlighten friends and family about what addicts have to deal with on a daily basis. He clearly says in the incidents of his life how one cannot control their actions when drugs or alcohol are involved. The author has no doubt that his book will benefit a very wide spectrum of people, especially people who suffer from addiction, but also anyone who is susceptible to mental health problems. This book helps to create acceptance and compassion for yourself and eventually frees you from the trauma of the past. It also provides practical steps someone can take to recover, like SMART recovery points, and the twelve steps of NA/AA. The book clearly explains how addiction works and provides ways to do something about it. Great stuff if you or someone you know has acknowledged the problem and is seeking to do something about it. Finally, the recovery stories give a lot of hope and inspire that recovery works and you can have a life which is free from addiction. Overall, it is a very positive book for anyone who wants to recover from drugs addiction. There is hope for all those who are having doubts about recovering from drug addiction.
I don’t even know where to start, this book was eye-opening. I am not in any means an addict, to anything (other than books! :)) However, I know the journey is long and very difficult with many obstacles.
I think it is admirable that JR Weaver has written about his journey, documented it for himself and others to see that although it seems impossible to change your life around… if you are persistent and determined, you will be able to do it.
I loved the personal touches of quotes from JR Weaver, pictures and the Recovery Stories from others who have fought hard to get where they are today.
I thought this was a great read, I read it in one sitting. It had me tearing up in places due to the stories told, JR Weavers fight.
I am so grateful to have been an opportunity to be on this book tour arranged by the lovely @zooloosbooktour. Thank you to jrweaver0 for allowing me a copy of this gem.
I have been following JR Weaver on twitter since sometime and I had already pre ordered his book, and I must say I could relate so much personally. I have an elder brother who had battled alcoholism and drug abuse, he was even caught during his college days selling it. Was the worst time for our family. But he went to the centre and discovered his own journey to his recovery and now is the most responsible and caring brother one could have. He recently got hitched too! I think in the end its about believing in yourself and the constant support of your loved ones. There were times he faltered but we were all there to help him through, and now he shares his story to young crowds to motivate them. For anyone who has ever battled addiction and emerged victorious, this is a definite must read. Thank you for this book and love from millions of people who understand and relate to your story.
Super-excellent book If you are hopeless, feeling and darkness every side, fearing to start over again, addicted to anything that is difficult to turn out, than the book “an addicted manifesto” should be I your hand now. This book, motivates you, tell you the power of your inner side, and recovers you from bad addiction towards the right one. Amazing book that narrates stories and gives the harsh realities of life by various. A huge congrats to writer, JR Weaver, who courageously shared his experience of life. A mind-blowing book for self-belief. I will give 10 stars and thumbs-up for the writer. In a nut shell, this book is “a hope for hopeless, and way to achieve destination through courage, commitment and determination. Highly recommended.
I couldn't have found a better book to read right now. This is a superb book. It is life changing for anybody, not just 'addicts'.
I can’t recommend this book enough it’s amazing I’m only on chapter 3 and it’s helping so much already, I don’t have an obvious addiction like drugs or alcohol but it works all the same and the book reads well too excellent excellent excellent
A joy to read and written with care and desire to help and make a difference to the reader.
I couldn’t find what I was looking for in this book. It focuses on a really important subject matter, but I felt a little lost because it wasn’t what I was expecting. Overall, there was a lot of repetition, which made it boring. It felt more like a diary with no literary value. The writing was poor in all respects. It’s good to be aware of people maintaining a healthy life, and I have sympathy for those who have suffered, but I couldn’t like the book in general.
Almost empty in content, used as a method by the writer to avoid relapsing, covering only a really small spectrum of addictions. The overly positive reviews are irrelevant to the content of the book, that is why I rated it so low, there is little to no rationale of judging a book positively so that not to emotionally affect its author.
It's not often I come across a book as enlightening and inspiring as "The Addiction Manifesto". This is so much more than a book about addiction and how to master it (though I'm convinced it carries all the tools to help you, or your loved ones, find the way through). It "flicked a few switches" in my brain and has actively changed my perspective on my own problems and setbacks. The recovery stories are nothing short of remarkable - as are the people those stories belong to. Everyone should read this book.
My thanks to the author. This review was written voluntarily and is entirely my own, unbiased, opinion.
If words have power then JR Weaver is the best addiction/recovery writer of the moment. I really enjoyed this book, the way he breaks down addiction and how to handle the situations that lead to relapse is easy to understand and will definitely help thousands of people beat their addiction. Kudos to JR Weaver for writing the book that freed the masses from the chains of addiction.
Are you tired of your addiction? Still doing everything possible to stay clean, but it doesn't seem to make a difference? If so, this book is for you.
The author describes his struggles and reveals his thought processes and motivations in an honest and open way. The author's honesty, openness, courage and determination in overcoming his addiction is an inspiration to those struggling with addictions.
This book will give you hope. The book is written in a very easy and informal style. Books like this are needed to bring understanding and courage to those struggling with addictions.
Be strong enough to stand alone, smart enough to know when you need help, and brave enough to ask for it.
The author personifies the recovery process, delivering an immersive experience to readers, as he writes about the trials and tribulations he faced during early recovery. JR Weaver aims to highlight the inherent powers of self-belief and how the personal desire to quit drug abuse remains the biggest obstacle to embracing a healthier, happier life. Published by Palmetto Publishing, The Addiction Manifesto initially started as a journal to help the author stay sober before he eventually decided to share his journey with the world as a self-help guide for people in recovery as well as their loved ones. The book contains easy-to-implement yet effective tips that will help readers to own their lives and become responsible members of the society. Recovery isn’t for those that need it. Recovery is for those that want it!
You’re always one decision away from totally different life.
The book gives a compelling look into the mind and motivation of an addict. Rather than attempt to paint a black and white portrait, the author paints a broad spectrum of an addict or a non addict life. The addict's journey is well documented, and provides many insights into addiction, and why it is so difficult to overcome. I highly recommend this book to anyone struggling with addictions, or who has a loved one struggling with addiction.
Firstly, congratulations to Jerry for all the time he has been sober! You’re smashing it! This is a raw and inspiring insight into Jerry’s battle with addiction and recovery. It gives us a real view into the struggles of a person battling with addiction – the trouble they’ll get themselves into for their next fix, and the guilt and shame that follows them later on. Jerry talks about his personal journey, relapses and how and when he made the decision to put everything into his recovery. He talks about the people he lost along the way, but is realistic in the fact that we can’t turn back time, only make amends and look to the future. As a person who hasn’t touched alcohol for nearly two years, some parts of this really resonated with me. I AM that person that can never have just one – one glass was always a bottle, and a night out would go on as long as I could make it. I stopped drinking because I knew my body needed a break and because of some of my drunken behaviour and decisions – and I know I can’t go back. And Jerry covers the reasons for this perfectly, This was a great reminder to me that I can’t slip back, and I”m just truly grateful that I’ve never touched drugs as I’m sure that could have turned into a slippery slope for me. There are a ton of inspirational quotes in here that will get you thinking, and the second half of the book is filled with others addiction and recovery stories. Some are truly heartbreaking but all are inspiring. It goes to show that, no matter the struggle, people CAN and WILL win against their addiction. I came away feeling super proud of Jerry and all those who are in recovery, If you know someone with an addiction, are a person with an addiction or just want a real insight into the reality of battling an addiction, then you really should check this out. Thank you Jerry, and the others, for sharing your stories with us. These will definitely help and inspire others in similar situations.
What a brilliant deep powerful book filled with a life story of addiction. It’s so honest, pure, real and inspirational and completely filled with quotes you can flip back to you when your in your most darkest times. It’s completely opened my eyes to the world of addiction and it’s allowed me to have a complete different perspective on whatever I thought about addiction before.
I loved that this offers reassurance to others that could find themselves on a difficult path of destruction. I love that it gives you the motivation of accepting where you find yourself at. It encourages you to understand yourself on a different level. Not everything can be resolved immediately and it’s okay to have stumbles from time to time.
From a psychological point of view, it highlights four steps to follow on the path of fighting addiction. To identify your triggers and to recognise your thoughts feelings and behaviours. The messages throughout are more than powerful they’re life changing. I adore that this book can help you help others close to you.
The recovery stories were really emotional and bought me close to tears. These wonderful people who have flipped their lives upside down. The realisation that not everyone can be saved from addiction you have to want to save yourself and save others. The before and after photos were unreal.
This author has handled writing about addiction in a thoughtful respective manner.
In this book the author wants to share not only his own battle against addiction, but he also wants to stress how hard it still sometimes is, after being clean. Addiction turns people into slaves and tries to keep them under its thumb for as long as possible after having taken everything from them.
Family and friends are turned away and a hit or a drink becomes the most import thing, much more important than children, work, etc.
Fighting against your own demons is a lot more engergy consuming than giving in. You really really have to be strong and without the help of people who love and support you around you, it's almost impossible to give up and start walking the long road to recovery. You have to want it for 100% or the devil will pull you under once again.
The author gives tips about what you can do to help you during your struggle and he cannot repeat enough how important it is and how wonderful life is once you claim it back and take control again.
There is also a part in the book where the author lets other winners tell us their devastating and heartbreaking stories. It are each and every one eye openers and please share this book with people around you. Show these stories to teenagers and I hope form the bottom of my heart it will keep them away from all this.
Thank you for sharing all this and for all your honesty.
I leave this review here for people who filtered for 1 star reviews as a warning about the writing style of this book before they buy it. Below are 4 quotes from the book. I am myself struggling with addiction, have the highest regard for people who beat addiction and manage to stay clean, but I can not manage to get through a book written in the style of the quotes below.
NO MORE!! Believe in yourself, look in the mirror and tell yourself that you can do this!
I’m going to say no, let me explain before u start throwing stones @ me.
You can find peace but you have to be ready to make some life changes!!! We might believe that it's a sign of weakness to ask for help, oh no it's not!!! It's a sign that you’re getting stronger, you want to get better but we both know we can't do this on our own so ask for help!! I did and it's the best move I have made in years!!!!
Most of us addicts believed we were smarter than everybody else, that we were hiding our addiction. *** NEWS FLASH*** Everybody knew we were addicts, and that we were using, but they were also hoping and praying that we could snap out
I wasnt sure what to expect going into this. What I got was a brutally open and honest account of the authors journey through addiction, how he got there and how he fought his way out again. This includes the loss of his baby daughter. Being a veteran, it is understandable when he expalains the reasons behind his addiction. At every point it is filled with positive reinforcement, I went through this, I know how hard it is, but this is something you can fight, and dont give up. I found that really powerful and despite not having suffered addiction, it made me look at certain areas of my life in a new light and maybe think differently. The book finishes off with quite a few stories of people who have also suffered from addiciton to various substances but have recovered. It told the story from the point of view of the addict and on various occasions from the view of the friends or family too. If you have suffered or are suffering from addiction, or know someone who does, I think this would be a wonderful book to gift them, and hope they read.
I really don't feel I can rate this book based on the very deeply personal nature of it. I was initially drawn to this book due to the subject matter and seeing a nearly unanimous 5 star review across the board. I will say, it's very clear there are many of fake reviews. That being said, it provides a good insight into the disease of addiction and the toll it takes and is a very personal story.. I did feel pretty disconnected from it at times but I can definitely see how it could be helpful to others.
This book is in my opinion what an addict wrestling with the idea of sobriety needs to read. Sobriety can be achieved but you need to want it and you need to work hard to get it. Sobriety does not fall into your lap it is hard work that you start again each and every morning. The good news is YOU can do it.
This book clearly explains the internal dilemma and dialogue between the real you and your addiction. Once you have experienced the euphoria of your chosen substance your addiction knows just how to convince you that you want that again and again whatever the cost. Your parents no longer matter, your husband or wife or partner no longer matter, the future that you planned and discussed no longer matters … all that matters is to repeat the experience. Before you know what has happened your body has adapted and you need more and more to reach the same high and now you would do anything; beg borrow or steal to get what you need.
I have just bought another copy of this book to share with those people I work with that we all have the answer if they want it and are willing to work hard enough to achieve it.
