Rate this book
Two families’ children were switched at birth. One of the families is a household that does business, and the other is a household of a marquis. There is a vast difference in status.

Unfortunately, Yu Xiang transmigrated as a person that was originally from a business household and was brought up in marquis’s residence. As soon as she arrived, the truth about her lineage was exposed, her legs were disabled, and she was still bearing the reputation of “the unlucky star”. In desperation, she had to hug her elder brother’s thigh firmly and attempt to live her days first. When the original daughter of the marquis’s family returns, Yu Xiang will return the position to her.

A few years later, the original daughter returned, Yu Xiang was prepared to leave, but she found that her technique of holding his thighs was too professional. Her older brother refused to let her go!

The marquis concealed his smile with the wine cup: How can his pampered wife, that grew up with him, leave whenever she wants?

Aieee okay let's get this over with.

The novel translation I found was trash - it was machine translated, which in theory I don't object to as long as its looked over for...well horrifying inaccuracies. The MTL confused pronouns a lot (almost all the women were given male pronouns and the men female pronouns... except even that was baffling as in the same setence the pronoun for the same character changed back and forth). Some names were translated literally while others were not. At one point I honestly thought they were talking about some peach buns when they meant the head maid!

Putting that aside I read the chapters of the manhua, Brother's Sick Love, available (which seemed to be just over 2/3rds of the novel covered) then switched to the novel so a few things were confusing (names, Yu Xiang's attitude - I'll talk more on that in a bit), but largely the novel made more sense thanks to the manhua first.

If anything the manhua underplayed just what a disaster star (Shen) Yu Miaoqi was. Or perhaps she got worse as her plans failed and the manhua didn't reach that part. As this is all another "girl mysteriously transmigrated to a novel" situation I do wonder the point of the novel since uh if Yu Xiang had not become the apple of Yu Pinyan's eye she would have not been a lucky star and (Shen) Yu Miaoqi was already born an unlucky star...was it meant to be a tragedy?

Anyhow.

Yu Pinyan is often at pains to remind himself, and by proxy the reader, that Yu Xiang is not his sister by blood and he does not view her that way. Which is good since otherwise this would be deeply uncomfortable to read. Or made more so. Yu Pinyan has some (for modern thinking) disturbing thoughts regarding his not yet marriage aged (15??) not sister. Anyhow putting that aside this is a fun, over the top dramatic book. Filled with many rivalries, intricate plots to take down your rival, schemes to live a better life, betrayals and a whole lot of the grandmother wondering how in the seven hells her daughter-in-law (Lady Lin) and biological granddaughter (Yu Miaoqi) are so much more useless and scandal bearing then a girl with no blood ties to the Yongle residence.

If I've learned nothing else from all these kinds of novels/comics, if the (formerly modern) young lady desires a lazy life she'll try and make that happen, but wind up too component.

While this doesn't hold a candle to some other's I've read, I did enjoy that some of the antagonistic, but not villainous characters likr Yu Siyu eventually realized they just needed to act honestly with Yu Xiang (and by extension Yu Pinyan and the Grandmother) to be treated well.

I've read this book more times than I've accidentally hit the snooze button in the morning. I don't know what it is about this book that keeps me coming back, but it's like a magnet, except instead of attracting metal, it attracts my eyeballs.

The Yandere Came During the Night is like a delicious stew of genres. It's got a pinch of fantasy, a dollop of romance, and a heaping spoonful of religious beliefs. And somehow, it all works together like a well-oiled machine. It's like putting a unicorn, a vampire, and a nun in a blender and coming out with a smoothie that tastes like rainbows.

I don't want to spoil anything, but let's just say that the yandere in question is more than just a little bit crazy. But hey, who doesn't love a little bit of craziness in their lives? It's like adding hot sauce to your pizza - it might make your eyes water a little bit, but it's totally worth it.

Overall, I highly recommend The Yandere Came During the Night. It's like a rollercoaster ride, except instead of going up and down, you're going from "what the heck" to "this is awesome" in a matter of seconds. So buckle up, hold on tight, and enjoy the ride!

Overall was okay. Got boring sometimes just like any old drawn out web novel but I pulled through and liked it. I liked the main character in this one (surprisingly) lol🤣

A transmigration story where the main character Yu Xiang dies in her modern day life and wakes up in the novel setting in the body of a girl with the same name. Because of the circumstances of her transmigration, she is blessed with amazing luck in this life and can be considered a blessing to everyone she helps.

In addition to the transmigration, identity swapping plays a key role in the story as well. The FL was accidentally swapped at birth with another baby girl who was born at the same time. The FL actually belongs to a family of merchants called Shen, but she was raised as a member of the noble Yu Marquis household. When she first wakes up in the story, she knows she needs to hug the thigh of her "older brother", the Marquis Yu Pinyan, who's the head of household and makes all the calls for the family, so that when the female lead / the actual daughter of the Yu family returns and the FL's identity gets revealed in the future, she'll still have a backer in the family.

I enjoyed this book for the most part. The beginning was okay, but I thought it really picked up when the OG female lead returns and introduces more conflict into the story. Then it was satisfying to follow along as Yu Xiang and the other members of the Yu family put the og female lead and her mother down. By the end, it's clear that they've really made a mess out of the household finances, to the point where even their guests get poisoned at a banquet they're hosting. Absolutely unbelievable.

Yu Xiang was a breath of fresh air in these historical Chinese novels. She's a smart girl and isn't afraid to say what's on her mind since she doesn't care about ruining her reputation. She'll call things out like she sees it and passionately defends her brother, regardless of the audience. Even when there was the awkward scene where her brother's childhood fiance tried to scheme her way into marrying the Marquis family by clinging onto the ML naked, the FL didn't bat an eye and scolded the girl until she was too ashamed to show her face.

The interactions between the two main leads were mostly sweet and it's nice to see a softer side to the ML. Their physical interactions did get a bit overly sexual as Yu Xiang got closer to the marriageable age. Because of her disability, Yu Pinyan spends a lot of time picking her up and carrying her around, so that was normal, but when you read about them touching noses or foreheads or sleeping for the night all tangled up together, that doesn't seem quite so much like normal sibling behavior. It was such a relief when the thin veneer of being "siblings" was torn down by the OG female lead and the ML could finally stop lusting after her in secret and was free to reveal his true feelings to the FL.

My biggest problem with the story are how all of the characters are painted in such black and white terms. The good characters are good, and the bad characters are bad, and that's it. There's one side character who gets better, but it was unbelievable how irredeemable the female lead and the mother are. Lin Shi gave birth to two kids, a son and a daughter, and it doesn't make any sense how she can completely disregard the son for all these years, but as soon as her real daughter comes back, she takes the side of the daughter for everything. It was too much.

And don't get me started on the OG female lead, Yu Miaoqi. She's a backstabbing scumbag and I'm glad the main characters all see right through her. It's really crazy to think that she's only 14 years old, the same age as Yu Xiang, but doesn't bat an eye when it comes to using others, even when it leads to their deaths. I was chuckling to myself because her cover is blown in front of the Yu family right from the beginning, when she lies to the grandmother and Yu Xiang about the paper prayer the grandmother gave her. It was satisfying to see all of her subsequent attempts to trip up Yu Xiang and ingratiate herself with everyone else fail either because of the ML or the FL.

By the end, the author had me rolling my eyes a bit when Yu Xiang decided to follow her brother to the war zone in her newly healed legs. But it's a fictional story so you can't expect everything to be perfect.

There's a lot that is objectionable about this novel, I can see why some people hate it.

To be honest, I hated the female lead at first. However, I think the author did a fairly good job of explaining how the outspoken but completely honest new FL is relatively better than the seemingly sweet but poisonous original FL. It's more about outlook on life. The original female lead acted as if the world owed her everything, and so anything she does to get it is fine. She treats her helpers the same as she would tools, without considering how compensating someone after they're dead doesn't matter a bit to that person, seeing as how they're dead. She looks after her friends and families only as an afterthought, and only if it's convenient for her. The new female lead behaves pretty badly as well, but at least she will genuinely try to help her friends and family, even if it ruins her own image. I don't think I'd ever want to meet a person like this in real life, but as a fictional character, she wasn't irredeemable.

For me, I loved the face-slapping, which there was plenty of. The part that I think might have gone too far was the 2nd extra - that extra made me feel rather bad for the original female lead.

I found it morbidly fascinating to read about the family dynamics, the political dynamics, the marriage politics.

I also liked how the female characters are actually quite strong - even the villains. Perhaps the only weak female is the mother, but I did find myself pitying her a bit. She was lost in grief, and then fell into the trap of trying to recoup the sunk cost of all the effort she put into her biological daughter rather than repair the damage her grief had inflicted on her biological son.

The major part I found objectionable is how the new FL was always "sweet" and sexualized. I know this is a trope, but there's no way that eating someone else's saliva (just writing this makes me puke a little) is sweet. Also, I've never tasted sweet beeswax chapstick, unless maybe the antique version doesn't separate the beeswax very well from the honey.

The below is my commentary/thoughts while reading.
So ... *blinks* I'm not MAD I read this book but also like ... man - if anyone ever wants a suggestion on a fucked up book ... *GESTURES WILDLY*
Although I think this is the first c-novel I've read that had premarital sex at least by the FL.

I really hope a lot of the cringe was due to not wonderful translation but ... I'm also pretty sure I can't say that.

It was interested one character was a lucky star, the other a jinx. Like I really hate this "fate" shit - but for the "jinx" like a lot of this was due to her own choices/selfishness.
<.< lowkey a not that mentioned part was how being spoiled will make a person The Worst.

I also had a bit of trouble with ... I'm definitely team FL but she honestly was an asshole too. Slightly torn - but she was absolutely loyal, and generally if you weren't shitty to her she wouldn't do anything to you unprovoked so there is that too. For someone who ... seriously how old was she - but she was very petty. I mean I'd love to be so willful and a mess though I think I'd get tired of it/I'm not so ... I couldn't. It'd be fun for a few months though.

I'd say this was probably ... solid C?

~*~*~*~

*scrunches face* uhhhhhh so ML & FL … think of each order as biological siblings? From the premise I thought that there was separation & they treated each other not BADLY but differently when they knew they weren’t related
Him growing up separately/in the palace helps but this whole c3 “she’s my biological sister even if we share no blood!” thing is making shit creepy. Like if this continues… I’ve gotta DNF 😬 at least FL initially thought he was her twin (so creepy) but then was like “oh no they’re different.” Still creepy they’re so similar though (at least in looks?)

C4 wow the mom is an utter POS & the ~half sister at only 12 is a poisonous bitch

C7 … I mean I’d like to think I’m not the type of person who wishes ill on others but tbh I’m a total petty bitch & I need horrible things to happen to those evil servants
😒 and tbh not great things to happen to everyone else in the family except for ML, his people, & FL’s 2 new servants

C11 😹😅☠️ I don’t know why but these changes from the original plot (which likely are good for FL!) are stressing me out like eek is it really good?

😒c19 first love rival appears sorry duke’s second daughter we hates you

C20 slightly mixed feelings on how immature FL is like sure she’s currently in the body of a 10 YO but pretty sure “real” her is in her 20s or even 30s? Most specifically the drawing her finger across her throat thing like… 🤷🏻‍♀️

😹😅☠️ I snortlaughed but am also deeply uncomfortable FL felt up ML’s chest like … you’re “ten” and he’s your “brother” you old lady. Also they need to stop calling his chest/pecs his “bosom” ☠️
(Can’t remember what chapter - thought I wrote it)

😱😱😱😱😱 c22 the whipping/having his 10 yo sister whipping people - also so … ML is def not blood/twin bother but another “ge/哥” in the romantic sense?!
Oh right & I wish I noted what chapter it started but him touching her lips… like when you’re still acting like siblings that’s so weird/wrong

C27 I’m sorry WTF the grandma handed over the management of the entire manor to an ELEVEN year old?!?! Like I get FL is mentally much older but still. Dude.

C31 😹☠️🙃🤷🏻‍♀️ guess I’m the dirty minded one cuz ML didn’t have pants feelings for FL until now/I’m pretty sure this is his first inkling of it

C36 goddamn the biological sister really is a jinx 😬😱☠️

C52 😱 the stupid mom & evil sister BURNED THE SPECIAL CHARM fucking idiots seriously I need them to meet their ends sooner rather than later 😒😡
The sister is RELENTLESSLY evil & the mom is even worse.

C55 tbh it’d be best if the grandma DID “smack [the mom] to death 😒 save them a lot of money & problems

C59 ok ML definitely has pants feelings for FL & is waiting for her to “wake up” and “discover” they aren’t related at which point he’ll pounce - but that also still/extra makes how he is NOW cringe creepy…

O.o 😱 ok so c80 was a flipped switch FL gets drunk, is almost 15, and all of a sudden ML has “sexy lips” & he’s all “you have to get married” & she’s all “I won’t marry anyone but big brother” … Which … so. Weird. Of course he’s like “ok yes” and I guess FL is the transmigrated woman but…
(Also dude how old IS she mentally & how is she tied to ML in her “real” world?!)
Also also the biological sister is RELENTLESSLY evil. And argh she better not become the crown princess seriously won’t she jinx the crown prince?! 😖 (well plus try to eliminate ML & FL…)
Oh right - and the kissing though *shudders*
I love FL’s biological brother just absolutely adores her from go…

C83 😹 seriously the good people in this book sold be fighting over FL this little lucky star ❤️ I’d be clinging to her like a fucking barnacle 😹💯

C84(?) *shudders* - I literally shuddered and am still shuddering
That leech thing is too utterly disgusting and insidious 😖😖😖🤮🤮🤮

Ugh c87 RELENTLESSLY EVIL sister I hope the crown prince crushes her 😡

Ugh c106 what calamity will the biological sister bring now & what evil will she join forces with (a prince obvs…)
At least ML & FL are ~together but what about the grandma…

Goddamn c113 😖 welp they were seen 😐
Not only is the sister her fucking maids are jinxes too 😒

C114 seriously though I’m annoyed how EVERYONE just… stopped being wary around the jinx
Also them being so obvious like duh reveal her identity so you can get married? Convince the grandma - what are y’all DOING 🤦🏻‍♀️

C115 well glad the parrot saved them the last chapter. And 😡 to the grandma.

C122 ok though the fact that they still call each other siblings is 😬 and the author’s descriptions (maybe if’s the translation?) of their kissing etc is 😖😖😖 so cringe

C123 ok seriously they’re so gross and cringe the “natural honey” = her mouth and licking mouths to drink medicine that way 😖😖😖

C125 I get the sentiment but I’m actually super irritated FL ruined all that food. I know her maids couldn’t stop her but… You’re literally in a fucking war right on/by a battleground and food is so precious you asshole.
At home, whatever. Ugh
(Also ML has a pardon from death token?) also why didn’t he show the questioning troops the tiger tally? 🤷🏻‍♀️

C136 ok so a big part of why it’s still creepy is he thinks of & calls her little girl though … wondering/hoping it’s a [poor] translation choice…

I really enjoyed it! It definitely had its faults like how the older brother was waiting for his 14 year old "sister" to reach the age of adulthood at 15 so he could eat her up which is honestly creepy if you dwell on it. But overall it was sweet, it was filled with face slapping and the main character was consistently pampered and spoiled. I also wouldn't call her yandere, she was just really straight forward with a sharp tongue that didn't allow anyone to keep their faces intact. That blurb was also misleading though because once the original bio sister comes into the home, the female lead doesn't try to leave at all so there was no opportunity for the older brother to be domineering and not allow her to go.

Summary: Yu Xiang was born not able to walk and her mother has her sacrifice her heart to her older brother. Older brother has monks give her five hundred years worth of luck in her next reincarnation and Yu Xiang gets reincarnated into a similarly disabled side character in a book she only read the first three chapters of. Yu Xiang is now in the body of the biological daughter of a Marquis and she just had her legs slashed while saving her older brother. Yu Xiang knows that she got switched at birth and the main lead of the story is the actual bio daughter so she decides she must form a strong relationship with her older brother so that when the main lead appears, she doesn't have a horrible fate. Yu Xiang succeeds in forming a relationship with her older brother and her grandmother, the servants, her sister, her mother and others all try to stir up trouble but Yu Xiang is spoiled, competent and lucky and love soon ensues.

Direitos humanos pra que né? China antiga galera. Amei a protagonista, amei a personalidade dela e as atitudes.

@Ch 74 - Webtoon
Given the premise, this one is surprisingly not as triggery and awkward as expected. In the end the youngness and age gap in the relationship are still upsetting. The grooming techniques and fear for her life make it sketchy--which worsens when you realize that she was placed into this book world as repayment for good deads. The isekai elements are barely there as she read two opening chapters and it only serves to explain her difference in values and capabilities compared with counterparts. The political in fighting and karma are interesting. That being said, this one becomes harder and harder to read as time goes on. The vanity of the FL and stupidity to leave known weaknesses in the hands of her enemies becomes overwhelming. Events do pick up again at the close and the story is resolved.

Out of all the historical transmigration webnovels I've read, this is by far my least favorite. Let's talk about what I liked. I still liked the fact that the FL is an ill-tempered, spoiled, vengeful lady. I loved the fact that she stands up for herself and for the people that are important to her. I specially like when the dressing down she gives other people when they cross her. I really like the revenge factor of transmigrations and rebirth stories.

For what I don't like, I guess it's the fact that they grew up for so many years as close siblings. I just feel off about that. Also, it was a bit rushed when it comes to the last few chapters.

Hmm~ story is so-so to pass the time. It's short so it's not draggy. Translation has a lot of typos and it wasn't that smooth, still, thanks for the translator to pick up this work.

Some characters in the story don't seem to have IQ and if you're looking for character growth, you are better off reading other novels. I want to give 3.5 but we don't have 0.5 rating in goodreads.

Happy ending, just in case it's not obvious enough from the story's summary.

i feel like i've been binging this ever since i started it.
this is the kind of trope i love to death and i'm all here for the face slapping.

there are some things that happened that i wasn't a fan of, but other than that, i thoroughly enjoyed the book from beginning to end. this is the kind of FL i love. not a pushover, and she will stand up for herself and for the ones that matter to her.

I want to love this one, but once the og FL arrived, was obviously such a scum character, yet nobody did anything, I started quickly skipping chapters. The author also didn't really give justification for the mother's obsession with daughter and neglect of her son. Characters are a little 2d for me.

The MC didn't act her age and the author is surely into weird kinks to conjure this plot. The title is misleading but a plus point is the author not dragging any event for too long. There is 1 antagonist and that is the dumb OGFL who uses 1 cell of her brain. The MC lowkey infuriated me and the ML was reduced to another lovesick fool during their interactions.

DNF. Summary didn't tag that the male lead is physically attracted to his 13-14yo sister and also the main pair are blood-related brother and sister (reincarnated to become non-blood-related) but it is still incest in the immediate family. Both I find hard to ignore so dnf for me.

Short for a chinese novel (thankfully!) so it was a pretty quick read. Kinda weird though because ML is FL's "brother" (though not blood related). A little more adult than average so wouldn't hand to my preteens to read.

Sometimes, you just wanna read a story with a strong female lead who gets her way. There’s a bit of schadenfreud, seeing how her enemies fail and how far they fall. I had a lot of fun

I had to get past the sibling couple relationship to really enjoy the novel. The transmigrator female main character is initially the only one who knows she has taken over the body of the sister who is not really the biological sibling. But, the entire empire believes the brother-sister pair is blood related, since they are raised together from birth. Eventually, everyone finds out about the birth swap. But, the extremely close sibling relationship (so close they sense each other’s pain) is awkward when it turns romantic until it is revealed they are not biologically related.

There were some slower parts in the story. This did not drag down the story too much. This was a fast read for me.
I typically don’t like the clingy yandere characters. But, the female lead is funny and domineering when putting the noble women in their places. It made reading this novel worth reading once.
