It's spooky season! Award-winning creators Frank Morrison and Connie Schofield-Morrison celebrate Halloween with their delightful series. It's October, and that means it's time to carve pumpkins, hang up spooky decorations, and host a big ghosty dance party! This girl hears the spooky spirit howling in the windy, misty gloom--SWOOM, SWOOP, SWOOSH! She dances with other ghouls and goblins--MONSTER MASH! She trades candy with her new spooky friend--CRACKLE CRUNCH! Halloween may only be one night, but she knows the spooky spirit will be back next year.In this exciting addition to the series including I Got the Rhythm, I Got the Christmas Spirit, and I Got the School Spirit, readers can explore the traditions of another fun holiday!
Connie Schofield-Morrison is a mother, author, and entrepreneur. She spent most of her childhood reading and writing poetry, songs, and fairy tales.
At the age of 19, Connie married her high school sweetheart Frank D. Morrison, a professional dancer. In 1999 Frank & Connie started their online art gallery, Morrison Graphics, which opened as a physical gallery in 2005 in the Old Fourth Ward of Atlanta, GA. Frank painted and illustrated, while Connie continued to take care of the business, their home, and their children, while writing children’s books in her spare time.
Her debut Bloomsbury Press title, I Got The Rhythm, is her first collaboration with husband and illustrator, Frank Morrison. The book is a rhythmic, soulful affirmation that a dream can become a reality, a belief that Connie has seen play out in her own life.
Loved the illustrations and I love having a fun holiday book with a Black protagonist! The text is a little stifled -- not as strong as early entries to this series.
It's time for Halloween and all things spooky! Let's carve some pumpkins and make some treats. Let's dance with our friends and trade candy! This adorable new entry in this delightful series is a must read during Halloween!
I received an ARC of this book for my honest opinion.
This cute book is all about the fun celebrations of Halloween. We have the excitement of costumes, Trick-or-Treating, and Halloween party in one fun, busy night. I loved the main character’s costume, adorable with cool purple hair. The text is jumpy and the illustrations are a cool oil paint with characters elongated to show action and excitement. A great book for any kid to start getting thrilled about Halloween.
This book takes a peek at a family and community that loves celebrating Halloween. The joy of picking the perfect pumpkin. The excitement found in dressing up and trick or treating. Plus the community gathering where there is dancing, bobbing for apples, and sorting through candy! This book is a good choice for a not scary Halloween book - it focuses on the fun. The illustrations in this book are great. And I love the main character dressed up with her fangs, crown, and witchy purple hair.
From the first page to the last, I was captivated with this exploration of a little girl celebrating Halloween in her neighborhood. I wanted some of those sour and sweet popsicles they were mixing in the kitchen! Loved all the kids in their costumes and all the fun activities! Recommended for everyone.
I loved the artwork, the colors are fantastic and the characters expressions are amazing. I didn't really care much for the actual writing of the book though I do like the emphasized words on each page. The images were more compelling than the story though.
A very cute and short children's picture book about enjoying and loving Halloween. As a lover of Halloween and everything spooky/scary, I really enjoyed this book and I will buy a physical copy to give to my nieces and nephews.
This is energetic and fun, and the illustrations are wonderfully detailed and atmospheric. This is a great choice for anyone who is looking for a picture book that focuses on fun Halloween activities and spooky vibes without actually being scary.
5 stars for the illustrations! The “story” was just more of a list of things to do on Halloween and was pretty repetitive with the spooky spirit line. Not much going on.
Nothing special. The artwork was fun and reminded me of the book "Fresh Cut." But the book itself just didn't do it for me. Maybe it would be more relatable to others.
A young girl gets into the festive Halloween mood as she carves pumpkins, bobs for apples and participates in other Halloween activities. Bright, colorful, fun illustrations!
