A great series starter featuring main character Ryan Scott, who attempts suicide as he feels everything he touches is taken away from him by "the Influence". Dr. Richard Logan, recognized just how important Ryan could be to medicine and uses Ryan's DNA to cure his niece Laura of MS. It then becomes a battle as Ryan and Laura try to evade big pharma who are threatened by what Ryan's DNA could do to their business.
“I couldn’t put this book down! The story grabs you from the first page with nonstop action, high stakes, and characters you genuinely care about. Ryan’s struggle with his curse and Laura’s transformation are written so vividly that you feel every moment of tension and triumph. The pacing is perfect, and the plot keeps you guessing until the very end. If you love thrilling, character-driven adventures with a hint of sci-fi, this is a must-read!”
This book covers many of my thoughts on the pharmaceutical companies which are only in business for profits and the possible extremes companies will go to to save the bottom line and industry. It really brings up very good points and does it in an enjoyable read.
Magnificent read, characters and storyline. Mutants trying to stop a mutant so they could really have more power. This is fascinating how it began and all the problems to follow. Definite must read
What a disappointment when half way through this story it crossed the line of "maybe believable" to just plain "hokey!" Properly developed, this could have been a success.
Extremely well written as if PD has an inside track to governments. I cannot put the book aside once I start it. It has romance, intrigue and enough scientific knowledge to make it believable!
Thoroughly gripping and clearly well researched. I loved the mystery elements, the thrill of the chase and cliffhanger chapter endings that compelled me to turn the page. Throw in the touching romance subplot and I was hopelessly hooked. Definitely recommended.
I enjoyed this book, it was well written and I felt I could visualize myself as the hero in the story. Good characters and plot. I'll be investing in book 2:)
A vaguely dystopian idea of total health control with wonder bio discovery. The wealthy guys chasing this ultra-healthy guy around the traps, as otherwise he'll 'infect' everybody with great health, thus "big pharma" will go bust! Not good writing, I'm afraid. The idea can be followed through several books, though I won't be reading them all..
