Reviewing the first volume in this series, I made a comparison to The Walking Dead (the TV series, at least), and I think that comparison still stands. The series seems to revolve around the characters finding a place that seems nice, but then turns out to be not nice at all. Oh no, let's quickly move on, hey- this place looks nice! Oh no.. And so on.

The pacing feels off: a problem is introduced, and then quickly solved. No slow burn, or any build really. Because things are solved quickly, they start to feel quite inconsequential.

It might've been a better idea to keep the POV on one group of characters. Now the series has to jump between two groups, which means less time to tell their stories, which leads to the weird pacing.

There's a new artist, and at first that did bug me a bit, but she actually does a good job

The story needs a bit more room to breathe, is all.

(Thanks to Vault Comics for providing me with an ARC through Edelweiss)

The premise and setting is very similar to The Walking Dead. Just instead of zombies, we have bouts of The Wave where everyone goes crazy violent while they are happening. The second half of this series feels rushed. Things are presented and resolved very quickly, especially the ending. The story would have been served better by stretching it out or just eliminating some of the elements completely. It's a shame though that the series has ended. I would have liked to see this continue as an ongoing series.

Review of the whole series: I enjoyed this series, though I liked the art of volume one more than two. The world-building is pretty scarce, and I did feel a bit like I'd been dropped into the middle of things at first. It took a bit to catch on to what was happening. But once I did, I liked where it went. I liked that we have a badass female amputee as a main character and a violent dystopian future in which finding one's calm is the means to survival. All in all, a winner.

I admit, I was so glad to find such a satisfying post-apocalyptic series that the 5 stars are not entirely deserved. Many things are left unanswered (pending a following volume, which doesn't seem likely), although the writers do make sure they leave no cliffhangers, which is quite common with such series. I wasn't really happy with the turn of events and reveal at the Spiral (no spoilers), because it felt really tropey and and a bit shallow.

However, comparisons with the Walking Dead (which I never liked, as zombies bore me to death and the series is morose in the extreme) cannot hold water. If you would compare it to anything, it is closer to Bird Cage or A Quiet Place, but still more satisfying as it doesn't succumb to the usual shortcuts or cop-outs.

The most important thing, one of my main requirements for any series, is that it sets down a specific problem in the beginning, and resolves it at the end. Though it does not concern the grand scheme of things, it is quite satisfying.

And the art is top notch to boot.

i enjoyed this slightly more than volume one (probably due to its faster pace). the art remains fantastic and i honestly think this could be an interesting show (a la TLOU or TWD). still, things wrapped up rather quickly. i wish we got to see paxton spend more time with the kids at the end, sort of as a reward for seeing them go through everything.

I thought this was a very unique version of a human dystopia. A future where people can resist their violent impulses, and maybe everyone has them🤷🏽

Art was okay story felt pretty original in idea, however the delivery felt very typical.

3.5⭐️✨⭐️ rounded up simply because i want to see more from this writer. Someone sponsor them! Get some more books out of them before they give up🙌🏾😊
