Monsieur Pamplemousse is looking forward to a well earned break in the South of France courtesy of his employer - all he has to do is collect an artwork for Le Guide's Director. But when his contact fails to show and a dismembered body is washed up outside the hotel the holiday mood evaporates. As Pamplemousse struggles with the case (and with modern technology) his ever-faithful bloodhound Pommes Frites is on hand offering proof of why, during his time with the Paris Surete, he was one of their top sniffer dogs. A production of West Side Story mounted by the mixed infants of a Russian school, undeniably close contact with their teacher's doudounes, serious threats from the Red Mafya...Monsieur Pamplemousse's thirteenth adventure could well prove to be his last.
Michael Bond, CBE was an English children's author. He was the creator of Paddington Bear and wrote about the adventures of a guinea pig named Olga da Polga, as well as the animated BBC TV series The Herbs. Bond also wrote culinary mystery stories for adults featuring Monsieur Pamplemousse and his faithful bloodhound, Pommes Frites.
Dnf - abandoned after a few chapters. MC is sort amusingly cynical caricature of a Frenchman, the travel writing is sort of interesting, but the narrative is meandering and so laid back it may as well be on holiday itself.
This was much more Clouseau farce than the others which at least had some kind of plot, this had so many threads that seemed unrelated and even the final summing up didn't satisfy...
I have followed the adventures of Monseuir Pamplemoose ever since Monseuir Pamplemoose and the Secret Mission. I love these delightful stories, especially for their light reading aspect, plus th make me laugh. I highly recommend these books if you're feeling a bit low, they will brighten your day.
