She lives in New England with her cherished husband and daughter.
This was a nice story. Rose the eldest MacVie and only girl. Lost her husband and 3 daughters at Berwick. She sailed out on a skiff, due to the sadness of the last 7 years. When caught in a storm. She is rescued by a passing boat. Where her life changes on meeting Tristan.
Shipwreck Leads to Love Between an English Captain and a Scot
This is the latest installment in the author’s “Scottish Outlaws” series. Set in Scotland in 1303, beginning in the Hebrides, this is the story of Rose MacVie, tragically widowed when the English massacred her husband and daughters. At 30, she wants a new life but despairs she will have one living with her brothers on the remote island. When her youngest brother offers her the position of quartermaster on his ship, she jumps at the chance, but alas, she never gets there.
Tristan Thatcher, an English merchant captain, has been betrothed by his father to a woman he does not like but one who will bring a title to the family. Tristan wants out and is persuaded by his quartermaster to pretend to have already wed before the betrothal message arrived, thus defeating his father’s plans. When Rose washes up next to their ship, floating on the wreckage of a small boat, he thinks she is just the one to save him.
Rose and Tristan launch their plan to pretend to be wed and then fall in love as they sail to France and England, his home. It’s an entertaining read with a hero who, as far as I could tell, is a flawless gentleman, accepting Rose’s past and her outlaw brothers without question. Rose is an adventurous type and a gifted healer.
Though it is part of a series and there are references to the other stories, it can easily be enjoyed as a stand alone.
The Scottish Outlaws series: Jack Quinn Rory Alec Rose
I was promised a fun, fast paced sexy ride and man did she ever deliver. I totally loved this book. It was so much FUN to read. I didn’t want it to end. I loved Rose and Tristian, their chemistry was perfect. She delivered a great story, good plot, and excitement. The characters were developed and you felt like you were a part of everything. I can see me using it as a go to book, when I want to read something fun. Rose has so much spunk, and never holds back, Tristian is her equal in that regard. You really must read this book, it is part of a series, but can be read as a standalone. OMG, READ THIS BOOK!
This is a good addition to the Highland Outlaw series, and I liked both Rose and Tristan. This book is my 2nd favorite of the series so far (Alec's story was my favorite). My rating is 4 stars.
I liked Rose, but did think her decision at the beginning was kind of stupid. She had to know it was dangerous to do what she did, but she did it anyway. I liked Tristan a lot -- he just seemed like a good, honorable man. They were good together.
This story didn't have a lot of danger like the other stories have had, but was more about Rose finding a way to be happy -- in spite of the terrible losses she had suffered. I liked that Tristan was able to help her with that. I also liked that Tristan's family got past their determination that Tristan marry the daughter of a Lord, and ended up adoring Rose.
I did think that Rose and Tristan fell in love a little too quickly to be believable, especially since Rose had such a tragic past.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
Rose is the oldest of the 6 MacVies and the only female. She was widowed 8 years ago when the English slaughtered everyone in Berwick including her parents, sister, husband and her 3 daughters. Now that 4 of her brothers have married her loneliness has taken over her. She sets sail to find her destiny and gets caught in a storm. Tristan, the Wealthy merchant and captain finds her afloat on the sea and rescues her. Their story is so heartwarming. Tristan is in a betrothal he does not want and asks Rose to pretend to be his wife to get out of the betrothal. That sets off a series of adventures, emotions and experiences that prove to be just what they both needed.
As with all of her books, Lily Baldwin did a masterful job bringing Rose’s story to life. Her characters are always so well developed and full of emotions that you find yourself laughing at the humorous dialogue between characters as well as dragging over your box of tissues as you feel like you are experiencing their sadness and heartbreak right along with the characters. I have really enjoyed reading this entire series, but looked forward to hearing about Rose finding her own destiny after all she had done for her brothers. If you love medieval romance with twists and turns of adventure and the unexpected, you should loving reading about Rose. I can easily recommend this lovely story.
Rose holds things together pretty well for having list her three daughters and her husband in the Berwick massacre. On the surface she smiles but underneath she hides an overwhelming sadness.
Tristan is a wealthy merchant and captain of his ship, one of many, when he finds Rose near death in the sea.
This book was a lot lighter than the last book but it still had danger and action enough to keep it interesting.
Rose by Lily Baldwin is a well written, funny, sad and happy book all in one. Rose is a strong woman of great courage and a living heart. Tristan is a sea captain kind, fair and loved by his men. I won't give spoilers but this book makes you smile at the humor. Sad for the loss and happy at the ending.
Rose McVie's family was killed, her husband and 3 daughters. Rose struggles and misses them, she wants the happiness that her brothers have. Rose is stranded at sea and saved by Tristan Thatcher, they fake being married to save Tristan from a betrothal his father has arranged! Loved the story, you will enjoy it.
I had been anxiously awaiting Rose's story. I was not disappointed. Once again, Lily Baldwin did an incredible job on the characters. Rose had that inner sadness and loneliness about her that took a special man to fix. Terrific story of fate and destiny.
Loved the latest installment of the Highland Outlaws! Rose was just as spunky as I knew she would be & the whole story just flowed together so smoothly! I absolutely can NOT wait to hear about the gentle giant, Ian:)
On it's own it would probably feel just like any ordinary story, but when you've read the first 4 books, this is a beautiful romantic story, a beautiful conclusion to the series (assuming its the conclision since its been many years and still no book for Ian).
Excellent addition to the outlaw brothers. I often wondered if Rose would have her own story. She finally does and it's a good one. Tristan is a perfect match. Authors need to know the difference between "though and through".
This a good book. It has been a while since I read the other books and I almost forgot about Rose, the eldest sister. I love Rose' s spirit. Tristan is a strong, kind man. Rose deserved to find her smile again. Now on to read Ian's story.
Rose and Triston are fantastic characters. I enjoyed becoming engaged in their great adventure and love story. I love the whole family and I am eager to rad the rest of their stories.
I so enjoyed this book!! There were many things I could relate to in Rose's story. I loved her strengths, her weaknesses, and her love of family, all while finding herself and the love of her life. The best book so far! One more to go!
I have read all the books now. Each is more enjoyable than the last. However this "Rose" is my favorite. So much loss ends in so much love and happiness. Loved Quarter Master Phillip. Would love a book about him, please.
This series was amazing, with lot's of adventure, drama, excitement and love the characters are exceptional and there was lot's of love.Thank you for sharing books books
Loved this book. Enjoyed the adventures of the seas. Rose and her Captain are truly a great match. You have to read the final book of the series to fully understand their love.
What a wonderful story! Rose and Tristan really came alive for me, and over all, I loved the way that they got over hurdles and prejudice. Outstanding!!
Rose's story was sweet. A delightful lovely love story. Tristan was just the right man for her. Lily Baldwin knows how to write very nice love stories.
