Starfighter Training Academy #2

Starfighter Command: Game 2

Rate this book
I'm obsessed with the game.

I spend so many hours playing that I dream about dangerous missions on other worlds...and my gorgeous, in-game training partner, Kassius. That is, until I win. I beat the Starfighter Training Academy.

But is it a game? Or alien software designed to recruit new, unsuspecting soldiers for a war in another star system? Because when my hot as heck alien shows up at my workplace demanding I leave Earth and travel to the Vega system? What? When he informs me it's my duty to fight Queen Raya and the Dark Fleet? Claims he wants me as much as I've craved him? Let's just say things get crazy.

Facing the truth is never easy, but when I arrive at the Elite Starfighter base I learn that Kassius cheated the system, hacked into the game, and lied to everyone on two worlds to make me his.

Now who's obsessed?

Starfighter Command is book 2 in the Starfighter Training Academy and I am totally hooked! A video game is used as a training tool to find warriors for an interstellar war. It's like Star Wars but with hot sex. My nerdy heart has died and I am in heaven.

So, Starfighter Command picks up where The First Starfighter left off, so you must read these in order. I loved that the author didn't rehash more than necessary and we dive right into the action. Mia is such an interesting character. Her Earth job is in special ops/spy stuff but something happened. Her coworkers don't trust her and she is a bit doubting of herself. Of course, Kass is perfect! Ok, well he isn't-I mean, he had to cheat and hack a few times, but he only does it for the good of his planet!

Now, listen, the Velarians are never gonna win this war because they have a serious problem with traitors! Oh my gosh. Also, I can't imagine being in Mia's position of having to trust someone whom you only just discovered was real. Oh, and in the middle of a space war in another galaxy. Talk about stress!

In light of all the Ice Planet Barbarian talk on TikTok, Starfighter Command is a delightful addition to your alien romance reads. If you want your aliens to be more humanoid, this series is perfect! I binged both books in 1 sitting and have no regrets.

Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon, Claimed by Evangeline Anderson, Under Different Stars by Amy Bartol...then you will probably like Starfighter Command!

After a little bit of a struggle with The First Starfighter, I found myself fully engaged in Mia and Kass’s romance. I loved their bad a$$ natures—Mia through her covert government operative work and Kass through his willingness to do anything to be a art of the Starfighter Academy and save Valerion.

The Starfighter Academy series is just heating up, and I can’t wait to see what happens between Lily and Darius in the final book, Elite Starfighter. ~ Missy, 4 stars

I love how clever Mina is. She seems to take the smallest bit of information and turn it into something that makes sense and that works. She's really good at it. I love watching those leaps of intuition that she comes up with.

Kass is a lot of fun. I might have a hard time with him if I had to spend a lot of time with him, just because that rebellious streak would probably drive me nuts occasionally, but overall, I really like him. I love how he has no problems with Mina being so clever and follows her lead and backs her up.

If only life was a video game

From coms to explosions, the author made this book a fast-paced, high intensity read that I didn’t want to put down! I love that these two are fighting on two fronts, and not until the very end was I sure that their was a HEA in their future. The characters were everything I hoped for after reading the first book, funny and intriguing and meant for each other. I can’t wait to see what book three will bring.

Amazing and out-of-this-world!

Book 2 picks up right where Book 1 left off. Mia and Lily have continued to play the online game, Starfighter Training Academy, but it’s been two weeks since their friend, Jamie, finished her final level and vanished completely. Mia Becker is a computer analyst working in cyber-intelligence for the German federal police (Bundeskriminalamt (BKA)) by day, who continues hacking in her leisure time by playing the Starfighter Mission Command Specialist (MCS) in the game at night.

Mia has been using her skills and connections to search for Jamie but has been unable to find her. Soon, she learns why, when she celebrates her own victory over completing the game and learns that her virtual training partner, Kassius Remeas of Velerion, is a real flesh and blood alien who has come to collect her and whisk her to the Vega star system.
I’d looked everywhere… on Earth. I wasn’t losing my touch at hacking and tracking. The best intelligence gathering systems in Europe had not failed. I had been looking in the wrong place. On the wrong planet.

Already obsessed with one another after months of flirting and lusting and emotional bonding during virtual training, Mia and Kass waste no time in getting physical from the moment he picks her up at her work place. They get physical A LOT. I mean, what’s a Mile High Club when you have the Two Star Systems Same Day Club? Trust me, these two! They can’t keep their hands off each other and they don’t care who knows it.

As the newest and only Starfighter MCS bond pair, Mia and Kassius are vital to Velerion’s war effort against the evil Queen Raya. Their job is to hack into systems and gather information that entire battle plans will drawn upon. Their elevation to the elite ranks of Velerion’s fighting force is not universally welcomed, however. An unscrupulous former supervisor and Kassius’ own hacking history lead to some potentially deadly internal conflicts. Will Mia be able to survive them? Will Jamie be there to help her friend?

I enjoyed every moment in reading this story. I felt Mia’s excitement as her calculating mind quickly grasped the reality of Kassius’ arrival. I was transfixed by their unrestrained passion for one another. (Did I mention there was a lot of that?) I bristled with indignation as Kass and Mia faced off with their nemesis. Grace Goodwin excels in transporting her reader into the sci-fi world of her imagination. This was another fabulous instalment in a gamer girl’s dream come true.

I was a total space hussy. And that made me smile.

LIVE TOGETHER. FIGHT TOGETHER. DIE TOGETHER

I loved the concept of this story, the characters, interaction, mystery, suspense, danger, angst, and then throw in a bonded mate and cue up the romance! What appears as an interactive Starfighter Training Academy game, played with other players and teams worldwide, might actually be much more in reality. Each player designs an alien to their specifications and let the games begin.

The story will have Mia Becker, Berlin, Germany, right behind Jamie completing Starfighter Training Academy. Using her computer specialty, hacking into the web, it is as if Jamie has disappeared from Earth. No credit card activity, no work attendance, nothing—entirely off the grid. When Mia completes the game, she accepts the pair bond with Kassius Remeas, the avatar from the competition.

“My avatar appeared, standing in a formal-looking room with high ceilings. Before mine and Kass’s avatars stood a stern-looking general. Kass held the Starfighter emblem in his palm and extended the offering toward me like it was an engagement ring. He asked if I—if my character in the game—would accept him and be his pair-bonded fighting partner for life.”

Kassius Remeas wanted to be part of the Starfighter Training Academy and find a pair bond; when his commanding officer refused, he hacked the system and added himself. Now, his gaming partner, Mia Becker, has completed the game and accepted his offer. He is off to Earth to bring her back to Velerion.

“Arrogant. Aggressive. Defiant. Disobedient. I was who I was. I would be a Starfighter MCS.”

“You accepted your role as a Starfighter MCS. You accepted our pair bond. As I have. The bond has been recorded in the Hall of Records on Velerion. You are mine, and I am yours. I have been waiting for you.”

The story has the good, the bad, and the evil of people. Mia uses her computer skills, and with Kass at her side, they conquered the game together—as a team. Kass may have entered himself into the system, but he was honest in his abilities, and Mia is his pair bond. Then, there is the evil of people or aliens, who are willing to sell out their own people for gain. But the fighting duo of Kass and Mia is more vital than a narcissistic commander.

“She was magnificent. Perfect. Mine. Bloodthirsty, I could work with.”

“Mia, you are mine, and I am yours. We work together, trained together, learned together. We fit one another in skills and temperament. We have common goals and shared work. Pair-bonded Velerion teams are stronger than those who struggle to work alone.”

I love the chemistry between Mia and Kassius and how she quickly learns that they are compatible while working, during dangerous encounters, especially as passion engulfs them. The story has life and death danger, and while someone is out to destroy them, arresting him with false accusations, a mission must still proceed. How far will a man go to protect what is his?

“Your pleasure is my pleasure, Mia. You are my life. My heart. You saved me.”

While the story includes romance and sex scenes, I like that it is more a story of survival and the unique pair-bonding that makes this story a page-turner. There are several sex scenes, mild power exchange, but it all has sizzling hot chemistry between the couple.

“We’d given everything to be together. We burned hot. We fought dirty. We claimed wild. We would never be tamed. Never be alone. Never walk away or betray one another. We were a pair bond. We were one.”

This story picks up right after the end of The First Starfighter. Kass is excited that he and his training partner, Mia, have completed their training program and now he gets to pick her up from Earth and start their time as bonded mates. Yes, she is pretty much all in once he shows up at her office. They are dropped immediately into the war. It doesn't take long before Kass's past comes rearing up and they have to fight wars on multiple fronts.

Let me get this out of the way, Kass cheated in order to be part of the training program. Honestly, it made me like him more than I would have otherwise. He doesn't have a ton of personality so the cheating gave him a bit of flair. Mia is more complex than Kass. Her background as an investigator makes her a great fit to solve the mystery in the story. On that note, this installment had a good bad guy (is that a strange sentence?). He is introduced very early in the story but the author slowly unrolls the reasons behind his actions. I feel like this story is less about the war against Queen Raya and more about the bad guy (I can't say more for fear of giving some of it away).

I did question how willing Mia is to leave everything behind. She works in the intelligence agency so I would assume her coworkers are going to do a little more than question her disappearance. I also scratched my head when Kass flew a spaceship to Earth instead of using the transporter from the first installment. The final thing that bugged me was timing. Like, Kass was supposed to take a mandatory 12-hour break at the start of the story but I can't figure out how that ever happened. Or how long does it take to fly from the flagship to the moon base, etc. My brain kept trying to calculate but I just couldn't seem to make it work consistently (there is a scene where they have one hour in their ship and that gets spelled out so the other instances were very noticeable).

This is a contemporary story set on Earth and in space. There are aliens but they look and act human. There is a war but it's more of a backdrop than the main story. I recommend this book if you are looking for a fast, easy-to-read book with a good love story.

Mia is about to discover the Starfighter Academy is more than just a game!

Rating: 4 stars

Kass has been trying to get into Starfighter training and continues to get denied because Captain Sponder doesn't like him…actually that is putting it mildly. These two have an epic grudge, one that may cost someone their life. When Kass can't get Captain Sponder to sign off on his application he decides to take matters into his own hands…or should I say fingertips and hacks to game.

Mia is in intelligence and a hacker and winning the game is going to be bittersweet as Kass is the only person she wants to interact with, and he isn't even real… or is he? When the newest bonded pair completes their training, Kass is on his way to claim Mia and boy does he claim her (wink wink).

The Velerion's are back and they are trying to figure out where the evil Queen Raya is getting her information, and where did she get Interplanetary ballistic missiles? Queen Raya has the ability to reach any planet, Velerion or Earth with these missiles. She must be stopped!

I simply adore Grace Goodwin and her writing. Strong heroines, strong heroes, great backstory, wonderful world building characters you bond with, and steam. The Starfighter series is proving to be an excellent edition to her catalog and I gobbled the book up in one night because I simply couldn't put it down! Mia and Kass's story is fantastic and the battle is heating up between the Velerion's and Queen Raya…what will happen when Jamie (book 1), Mia (book 2), and Lily (book 3???) team up with their bonded mates to take on Queen Raya? I CANNOT WAIT!

I enjoyed this book and recommend this series to all those alien, sci-fi romance lovers! You won't be disappointed!

Mia and her online friends are really enjoying the Starfighter command training game. Jane her friend beat the game and the disappeared. Mia has searched everywhere but has no luck in finding her. Mia is about to beat the game and she is determined to take the same steps that Jane did in hopes of finding her friend. So when she and her computer partner Kassius beat the game she accepts the title of star fighter and agrees to a pair bond. To her surprise a day or so later a man named Kassius apprears at her job demanding to see her. He tells her he is there to claim her and take her back to his planet to be a starfighter. Mia agrees because she is very attached to Kassius in the game and she wants to find Jane but this is all very overwhelming.

Kassius has a horrible commander who has refused to enter Kassius into the starfighter program. Kassius decides to hack in and enter himself. He is thrilled when Mia chooses him as a partner and that they are able to complete the training. He is ready to start a new life with her as starfighters but his old commander wants to see him punished for cheating. Will Mia still trust him when she finds out about the cheating?

This is book two in the star fighter series, and i have to say that, i enjoyed it more than the first if im being honest. I just really liked Mia Becker character. She in my books is a read bad ass with the computer and hacking skills she has. She can do and find anything
Mia has with her mate Kass as she has called him have completed the game, but back at work she is still looking for her friend who has disappeared. When Kass turns up to take her to Velerion. Despite been bondmates it seems that someone is trying to frame Kass and kill Mia and all the while a mission has to be completed.

This story is certainly action packed and i totally loved it, i certainly cant wait to read llillys story next.

Update 6/13/2021
After her friend completed the Starfighter Training Academy game and disappeared. Her friends have searched for her as they continue to work on completing the game.

Mia loves the missions and her training partner Kassius is hot. Now she's beat the game and Kassius has shown up at her job, to take her to the Elite Starfighter base.

The minute they arrive they have a mission to go on and Kass is being accused of hacking into the game and cheating to get into the Starfighter Training Academy.

I liked getting back into this world and getting to know these two. Mia and Kassius have great chemistry and waste no time strengthening their bond. And the action in this book is good too.

I recommend reading these books in order.

I found this book to be even better than the first one! I love the chemistry between Mia & Kass was fantastic which only complimented the action in the book as they worked out how their relationship is going to work. It was interesting learning more about this new world and seeing more happen in the overall arc of the books. There were some unexpected twists in this book that make me definitely want to read the 3rd book in this series coming out soon! I received a copy from Booksprout so I can leave an unbiased review.

This is another awesome book by this author and I really enjoyed the chemistry between Kass and Mia. Their story is filled with mystery, intrigue, suspense, and of course, a steamy romance. There is only supposed to be one more book to the series, but I have to say, I'm hoping we get a few more than that ;)

A great PNR story with great characters and an interesting storyline. Mina is playing a game or so she thinks.... little does she know that it's kind of a test made by an alien race to gather more soldiers. She fell in love with Kassius online... now the alien wants to make her his... no matter what 😉 Sweet, steamy, romantic with action and a HEA at the end😍😍😍

I didn't find it as good as the first book but I still enjoyed it. Kassius is a modern day Maverick in and out of the cockpit. Mia is amazing and talented. not as much action in this story and more talking but still engaging. can't wait for the next book.

Wow this book kept me captivated and glued to the pages and now that it’s finished I’m a little sad. The characters are amazing and the chemistry between Kassius and Mia is flaming hot right from the get go and the book just got better and better, and then they had the fight against the evil Queen Raya and the Dark fleet that has taken over the planet Xeron and in slaved the people but the biggest surprise was the attack that came from within and an arch nemesis that wanted to hurt them both. Captain Sponder has hated Kassius and has stopped every attempt he has made to be a starfighter so Kassius did want he did best he hacked the system in Sponders name and entered himself in the Starfighter Training Academy and that’s where he meet Mia his bond mate. How does it all turn out for this brave couple when the odds are stacking up against them, they fight. Come on book 3

Mia beats the Starfighter Training Academy - and cant believe it when she finds out that her training Partner, Kass, is real!
But Sponder is out to get Kass - and Mia may become collateral damage in a war that is happiong in the Vega system Is he really a cheat and a liar? Had Mia given her heart to the wrong guy? Loving this series!

Content notes:

Yes, I read another one of these books. Look, I’m just saying, if Garrus Vakarian knocked on my door and said he desperately needed my help to go fight the Reapers? I’d consider it! After listening to me summarize the entire plot of the last book in like two sentences, my friend picked up this one for me as well after she stopped laughing. And yes, it’s more of the same, though with hackers instead of fighter pilots. This book picks up directly after the events of the first, so they should be read in order.

Ever since her friend Jamie disappeared a few weeks ago after finishing the Starfighter Training Academy game, Mia’s been trying (and failing) to find her. And that’s saying something, considering her day job is working in cyberintelligence for a government agency in Germany. But when she finishes the game and an alien that looks exactly like her in-game partner shows up, claiming it’s time to go fight some bad guys with her friend Jamie, well, what can she do but go with him? Kassius, a former shuttle pilot and now Mia’s bondpartner, isn’t quite telling her everything. He was so sure he was underutilized in his old job that he hacked into the Starfighter Training program to submit his name as a possible match, as his commanding officer refused to approve him. That captain, however, refuses to let it go, even threatening to break up their partnership. With new threats from the enemy and within their own ranks, it will take all of Mia and Kassius’s skills to stay together – and alive.

“Believing aliens were real was no stretch for me. Accepting that Kassius had traveled here from another solar system to find me? Me? Well, that was the crazy bit.”

Unlike Jamie and Alex, Mia’s a Mission Control Specialist – basically, a hacker. And also unlike Jamie, she and Kassius are the only MCS pair the Velerions have, which means they’re desperately needed to find the source of the interplanetary bombs from the last book. Despite completing the game, Mia’s worried about her qualifications. At her previous job, bad information she got from an informant led to the deaths of two agents, and she’s afraid of making the same mistakes again. After all, now she’s got a whole planet relying on her. Mia’s pretty quick on her feet, though, and her confidence grows with each successful mission. Plus, she’s smart enough, at least, to text their remaining friend on Earth, Lily, to let her know the game is real and that her alien partner will be coming to pick her up once she beats it. But Kassius’s past actions catch up to them before long and throw Mia for a loop. Is her judgement as bad as she feared?

“I’d been with her on mission after mission, watched as she’d failed. As she’d succeeded. Learned. Grew. Because she’d done all that, I’d been able to enhance my flying skills, tie in my own computer abilities to hers. Every simulation and training session we each completed had to relived and completed by the other.”

Kassius describes himself as arrogant, defiant and disobedient, and I’m certainly not going to argue with him. In his defense, he does ‘fess up to having hacked himself into the program pretty much immediately, which is honestly something Mia admires. Other than that – and the insta-lust – he’s pretty much a one-note character, like the hero of the last book. There isn’t much more to the plot, either. What do the bad guys want? Why are they trying to blow up planets with bombs? Nobody knows. And also much like the last book, there’s another traitor in the ranks who they have to ferret out. The characters literally wonder out loud why that person turned traitor, and Mia’s brilliant answer? “Sometimes people don’t make sense.” Girl, sometimes the whole dang plot doesn’t make sense.

The consent is better in some ways in this book, though when Mia and Kassius first meet, she asks him to stop touching her and he doesn’t. (Also, bonking in a work conference room? Ew.) He does explain the whole cipher implant injection before randomly knocking her out, so point for him over Alexius in that, at least. There’s also a lot more emphasis on how they’ve technically known each other for months. While the training missions weren’t in real time, they were recorded, with Kassius having to replay his role after Mia had already won. It still feels a bit weird as Mia didn’t know he was a real person.

So while this book is utterly ridiculous, I still got a humongous kick out of it, and I’ll definitely be reading the next one.

Wow…..I am so blown away with Starfighter Command. I love all of the books written by Grace Goodwin and Starfighter Command is no different. The characters and the whole world 🗺 that Grace Goodwin created are a result of her awesome imagination. Grace’s books are all original and shows her creativity with the story she tells. I love the characters that are in her books and especially love how the stories all interconnect in a series. The Starfighter Training Academy is a fairly new series for Grace and I for one love this new series just as much as her Interstellar Bride Program and all of its related spin off series. If this is the first book 📖 you have read from Grace Goodwin I highly recommend you check out the first book in the series, The First Starfighter (Jamie and Alexius story) and then check out the Interstellar Bride Program. You won’t regret it. Just a word of caution with The Interstellar Bride Program is very hot 🔥🌡 and you definitely want to be interrupted and be prepared of wanting instant relief once you are done. Starfighter Command has a lot of heat but the Interstellar Bride Program is even hotter. As you can tell I love reading books written by Grace Goodwin and while her books can be read as a stand-alone you get more enjoyment from reading them in sequence. Back to The Starfighter Command, readers will enjoy reading all about the world 🗺 or should I say planet 🪐 that the story is based on with all of the wondrous people, customs, details, and including the main characters. The Starfighter Command is filled with surprises that come out of left field, twists, turns, ups, downs, emotions, things going sideways sideways, and lots and lots of heat 🌡🔥. Highly recommend The Starfighter Command and can’t wait for Elite Starfighter, Book 3 to be released. I am going to be waiting on pins and needles for it to be released. I have read all of Grace’s books already so more than likely I will read some of my favorites again. Actually, I will probably listen to them. As much as I love reading her books on audiobook they are even more enhanced and I love listening to them even more. I usually have all of the books and add the audiobook to my collection as they are released. 😊 Hope you enjoy reading The Starfighter Command as much as I do!! Have fun reading!!

Mia, the Next Starfighter . . .

Lieutenant Kassius Remeas, Planet Velerion, Eos Ground Station shuttle pilot, fingers racing over the keyboard, demanded a chance to become a pair-bonded Starfighter MCS. His commanding officer hated him and wouldn’t recommend him, so Kassius would hack the system and make it happen himself. His cipher implants allowed him to connect directly with the computer systems and he worked at it for hours until he finally logged in as Captain Sponder. Then he began entering his own data as a new recommended candidate for the Starfighter Training Academy.
Mia Becker, Berlin, Germany, was in the game. She had such a crush on her gorgeous, in-game training partner, Kassius, that she didn’t bother dating since no one she met could match Kass. But now concentrating on the game, she was closer than before to winning. She just might do that this time. The only bad thing was that she didn’t want to say goodbye to Kass. Her friends Jamie and Lily knew exactly what she meant. They once talked about purposely losing so they could keep their alien partners. Kass piloted them close and Mia guided the hacked shuttle inside. As they raced away, the screen flashed with the explosion of Queen Raya’s warship, her entire fleet caught in the fiery explosion. Mia and Kass had beaten the game and won!

But is it a game? What happens when her handsome alien shows up at her workplace in her real life demanding that she travels with him to the Vega system to fight Queen Raya and the Dark Fleet? She has not actually been “playing” a video game, but has been finishing up her training program to become a Starfighter, and it's her duty to see this through! Will she go with him? And will she find out that Kassius cheated the system, hacked into the game, and now intends to make her his own? Will she find out why Jamie disappeared after she had won?

The story line is well-paced and, though familiar, builds that world around you that keeps you cheering the players on. The characters are developed well and have qualities that will connect strongly with readers. Grab your copy and see where Mia’s adventure leads her!

I absolutely love this series! The first book in the Starfighter series introduced me to author Grace Goodwin, which I went and binged all her other books. The second in this series follow the second in the trio of female gamer friends, Mia. I couldn't wait to see what suspenseful sci-fi romance was kicked up with this next installment.

Starfighter Command: Game 2 follows Mia, who has finally finished the Starfighter Training Academy game, just like her friend Jamie. However Jaimie went dark after finishing the game and now Mia is in for a surprise. Kassius aka Kass is arrogant, a rule breaker but has his heart set on helping stop the Dark Fleet and Queen Raya at all costs. He works his tech magic to get into the Training Academy Program and meets his bond mate Mia. When she completes the Academy he brings her straight the Velerion and into the war to save their worlds. Together they fight against traitors, the Dark fleet and their hearts.

Mia is such a rock chick, she is gung ho and ready to battle as soon as Kass brings her to Velerion. She actually takes the reality that this game is not a game but real with ease. She is a tech genius and her smarts is what makes her good at what she does. She and Kass have this intense bond and of course neither can resist each other. Kass will do anything to protect Mia and save his planet and her, but he has to deal with the politics and higher ups that are gunning for him.

Overall this series is fully of action and suspense, just like the first, we are put straight into battle against the Dark Fleet and hope that our new couple can survive. The romance is off the charts sexy and Goodwin knows her romance, she make the pages sizzle with sexy. The past characters also have some moments which interconnect this series just like her others. I cant wait for the next book!

The writing and editing of the ARC version of the manuscript was clean, with no typos that I found and well constructed sentences. The world building of the moon base and Valerion was competent, though by no means a vibrant character in itself. The characterization was okay, with the hero and heroine being sympathetic individuals, if not especially nuanced. The development of the romantic relationship was okay. I did not really feel like these two had intense chemistry, even though the heat level in this novel was three chili peppers. They did not really have much internal OR external conflict keeping them apart. I also did not really get to see their relationship grow and change throughout the course of the book. The plot was really the strength of this novel. It was tight, action packed, and intricate. As a consequence, the pacing of the novel was really quick. There was a low amount of angst and high stakes throughout this novel, which tends to be one of my preferred narrative structures for a romance novel. This novel used the Intergalactic War trope and the Algorithm Matched Mate trope common in sci-fi romance. The world building was three stars. The plot and pacing were five stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship were both three stars. I therefore gave this novel a combined rating of four stars. This novel ended on a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger ending, so that was a big plus. I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy military sci-fi elements to their romances. I look forward to reading the next book in this series when it releases. I will not buy myself a keeper copy of this novel.

I received a free advance review copy of this book, and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Okay let's get this done.

If the first one was intriguing but hampered with repetitions that jarred me out of the narrative, this one was interesting but a failure of execution.

Mia just didn't convince me she was, in Earth, this computer hacking intelligence officer (in Germany). Conceptually her and Jamie acted very much the same. Mia got over her doubts about how "real" it all was quicker, but she replaced that with an almost unrelenting assumption that it would all go wrong shortly.

Jamie doubted Alex at one point, but she got over it real quick DESPITE the fact she was handed over to Queen Raya by him. Meanwhile Mia spends a solid chunk of time believing the jerk Captain Sponder's accusations against Kass - not because Sponder was all that trustable, but because Mia couldn't see how he could be wrong.

Never mind the fact SHE WAS THE ONE TRAINING WITH KASS in the simulation and this should have been able to tell if he was making things easier (or if she couldn't, Jamie or Lily could have told her since they were all working together).

The manufactured angst grated and did a superficial job trying to make it a big reveal that Sponder was a traitor. I'd love to know how he hid that treasonous personality, because every scene with him was him screaming about Kass and not being subtle about ignoring the chains of command.

Overall despite the promising start of Kass being this cocky but dedicated hacker type (he reminded me a bit of Kurtz from Full Metal Panic...just less of an openly perverted sort), it quickly became a chore to get through with inconsistent character actions and a bogged down "drama" that made Mia less likable.
