Brides of Bethany Springs #1

To Charm a Scarred Cowboy

Rate this book
Texas, 1889 - Daniel Honeycutt is no stranger to peril. The gruff cowboy is a man of honor. He’s never hesitated to risk his life and his scars bear the proof. The old wounds frighten most folks. His scarred face certainly scared off a fiancée a few years back.

Since then, he’s resolved to lead a solitary life. He spends his days tending his family’s vast herds of longhorns. It’s just him, his animals, and the rugged Texas range. Life’s a tad lonesome but there’s no one to judge him.

When his path crosses a woman on a runaway horse, Daniel forgets to hide his scars. The girl is in grave danger. His quick thinking saves Molly Collins, and the chance meeting draws Daniel out of seclusion.

Molly is unlike any girl he’s met. Headstrong. Impossible. Aggravatingly beautiful. To his surprise, Molly leads a quiet life with no intention of marriage. Instead, Molly vows to fulfill a promise.

She has no use for romance. But when Daniel learns of the danger that threatens Molly’s safety, he’ll stop at nothing to keep her safe. Even if it risks his stubborn heart.

Although it wasn't as good as I expected, it was a sweet read nonetheless.
The plot felt a bit meandering with not much happening, but if you like slow-paced stories, I guess you won't mind.
The romance was sweet, although once again, there wasn't a great deal happening.
Overall, a sweet story if you're looking to pass the time.

I liked this book. The way Daniel liked Molly so much, he would find any excuse just to be near her, it was adorable. Molly didn't want any man, she just wanted to take of her family but she couldn't resist Daniel. The moment he saw her he knew she was it

Confused

The book started beautifully but as it went forward, I could not make my mind who was the heroine was it Elsie or Molly & the story went off the two main characters.

Daniel was scarred and lost an eye when confronting a rustler as part of his job with the Brotherhood. His fiancée broke their engagement, and Daniel decided he'd never marry. As he is riding into Bethany Springs, a spooked horse with a young woman on her back is racing towards Daniel. That is his introduction to Molly. As he helps her and as her horse ruins his shirt, he feels something towards Molly, and she feels it back. But how is Daniel to find her when neither has asked the other's name? Find her he does as he goes to the miners' homes to let them know they owe no rent until the mine reopens following an accident at the mine. He also learns she is alone with a young girl in the house while the menfolk are away. Since there are thieves in the area, Daniel stays to protect them. Will their feelings come out for each other? What happens when the menfolk come home?

I loved this sweet story. Though Molly worked hard, I envied her as Daniel tried as much as he could to help her and protect her. He sometimes made mistakes, but he did it from love. I liked Elsie, the young girl. She could not shut her mouth for anything. Didn't matter the looks she got, she just kept going. I liked Amelia, Daniel's mother. She raised three boys on her own after her husband's death and kept them mostly under control. I also loved the compassion of Molly and Daniel towards Elsie and the thieves.

This was a marvelous story. I look forward to the rest of the series to see how Daniel's brothers fare.

What a wonderfully funny, sweet, clean story. Lots of diverse, likeable characters. I especially enjoyed JoJo and Amelia's conversation about secrets. Too funny! The mother and her friend, Sophie, are also an interesting pair.

“Why don't you come and visit your Aunt Sophie every so often? I miss seeing my boys. And by that I don't mean my own boys.”
She sighed dramatically. “They're more trouble than I can manage. I'm not sure where I went wrong. I'd rather spend a little time with some nicely behaved young men like the Honeycutt brood. Next time your mama wants to come for a visit, why not come along and bring your rascally brothers? I’ll make those tea cookies you’re fond of. Robert can smoke a brisket or two. I’d sure like to catch up.”
Catch up? Daniel doubted that very much. More likely, Miss Sophie wanted to give him a talk about settling down once and for all. She’d pester him about marriage, then she’d grumble about her own dastardly sons. The last thing he wanted was to catch up with Miss Sophie, especially if his mother joined in on the conversation. Together, the two ladies were formidable. He’d rather venture unawares into a hive of honeybees, a nest of water moccasins, or a thicket of mesquite. He coaxed his lips to a polite smile.
“Yes, ma'am.”

5 STARS, WESTERN ROMANCE DRAMA

This is a delightful old west romance with some drama surrounding the characters who are the main ones. A cowboy meets a girl who isn't repelled from his looks. He had been cut in the face & lost an eye from a criminal several years earlier and completely rejected by his fiance.

Molly is the daughter of a disabled miner who tries hard to keep it together for her father & two teenage brothers since the mine accident. She was impressed with Daniel when he saved her from her horse running wild, she just thought her life ahead was to take care of her father & brothers for the rest of her life making ends meet.

These two characters interact & that is where the action is to look toward too. Elsie, she has been abandoned by her Uncle who said he would be back; but he took everything, plus his new wife thinks she's A burden.

Delightful

Daniel is a scarred cowboy, a knife wound that cost him an eye & left a jagged scar across his cheek. He intends to look scary with his eyepatch and scowl. But Molly Anne doesn't even notice--she just notices a mighty handsome cowboy who rescued her when her temperamental horse ran away with her. Their paths cross again and as they say, the sparks flew upward. I like that each chapter had a heading and subheadings that told whose point of view would guide that chapter. Easy, fast read, and I'm ready to find out when & howthe other Honeycutt boys & the McCord boys will mature enough to find soul mates. Right now they are a bunch of rowdies. And then there's Elsie. And Will.

The idea of a good story was there. To me, though, it just wasn't executed properly. I felt like there was no real depth to Daniel and Molly's relationship. It was just sort of like, "I find you attractive. Let's get married." It felt more like lust or infatuation than actual love. Plus, it felt very farfetched that both were so determined that they weren't going to get married, but they changed their minds within almost no time at all.

This book, though, is clean. There's no swearing, violence, or sexual content. Kissing's about as graphic as the sexual content gets, and even that's nothing too descriptive.

Great story!

Daniel was son of Amelia, who owned a big ranch, a mine and other things. He took care of the ranch with his two brothers. When there was trouble, the three tried to find the culprits and make amends since there was no sheriff. In a tussle one day Daniel got his face sliced and lost an eye, so he wore an eye patch. Girls were sort of scared of him until he met Molly. Right of he fell for her. Molly made clothing. Her father worked the mines but got injured in an explosion. So many things were happening in the town. It took a while to straighten things out. It is a funny romantic story.

Molly was determined to follow her Step-mother's last wishes by taking care of her father and twin brothers. But, her life was about to chance. Her skills as a seamstress was recognized by everyone except the mercantile. With a chance meeting, her life would take a turn that would connect her with Daniel Honeycutt in ways she would've never imagined. Also, the young girl who seemed to be left to her own devices when her uncle left her behind after moving out of the area filled her heart with love and concern. With her father and brothers away, Daniel found he felt a need to protect her. Daniel never imagined she could love him with his scared face and eye patch, but how wrong he was.

This was a sweet story. I love the fact that Daniel find his true love in the same way as his father. He just knows when he meets her that she is the one he has been waiting on. He hasn’t wanted marriage till he lays eyes on Molly Anne.
Molly on the other hand doesn’t want a husband. She promised to watch over her father and brothers. That is a promise she made and is intent on keeping. That is until Daniel. Add in Elise and you have an incredible story. Elise rounds out their story for the better.

This is a Wonderful Western HEA!

There is so much good to be said about this book! Molly is caring, fearful yet brave. Daniel is good, mature and hurt but still caring. In fact, most of the adults actually act mature, real and I found myself invested in their story. You will want to read this book in spite of the few gossips and busybodies that liven the story. I can recommend, no I think teens and adults should read this book! This is a keeper and a shout out to Dearing for a great book.

Really easy read. Short chapters that kept you going in the story. Great characters and a great start to a series. Charlotte writes easy and enjoyable books. Bethany Springs is a great little town with folks you want to know more about and Daniel, firstborn son of a wealthy ranching and banking family is a hero for sure. Molly, whose father was injured in an accident at the mine Daniel's family owns is a real pleasure of a character. The fall for each other quickly and no sex scenes are involved at all. Ready for the stories of the Honeycutt boys and the rest of the characters here.

To Charm a Scarred Cowboy

Is a delightful clean romance set in Western setting.

Vixen, terrified by the crack of a bull whip is running in a flat gallop. Her young owner Mollie is hanging on for dear lie.

A cowboy, scarred, wearing an eye psych manages to get the mare stopped. He helps Mollie down. Then Vixen rips his shirt from collar to elbow.

Lucky for him, Mollie is a seamstress and has a new shirt with her.

It was love at first sight for both of them.

Perfect

Enough excitement and good story to keep you reading for hours. The characters are like new friends made in the town if Bethany Springs. Amelia, widow with three grown boys, has found a way to be prosperous and independent in a time when women were not allowed to do so. She owns a large ranch, a bank and now a mine that has suffered a terrible accident. How does she keep these minors around and safe?

Late 1800's in Texas where folks struggled to make a living mining or ranching, but living the best they can. After a mining accident, life changed in the area as the owners of the mine investigated why men were injured and died. The storyline is that of Molly who worked to keep her household together, earn money sewing and prayed her father recovered from his wounds. It is a good storyline and I felt it was close to the life those in that era lived, worked and died.

💞 Molly and Daniel 💞

What a sweet story! I loved the first scene of Molly meeting Daniel in that field....so romantic. Even though neither one had the foresight to ask each other their names!

I also loved the humor within this story. Some of the little quips had me chuckle out loud.

Very enjoyable read ❤️

A sweet story filled with heartwarming characters. The storyline was charming with a bit of suspense added in. Molly wanted nothing more than to open her own dress shop and to continue taking care of her father and brothers. Daniel rescues Molly when her horse runs off. The attraction is immediate, but they never exchanged names. Daniel is determined to find out who this mysterious girl is.

Scars Inside and Out

A cowboy with horrible scars to his face, never believing he'd find a wife, saves a young lady on a runaway horse. His family owns the mine where her father was injured. The more they get to know each other, their attraction grows. There are a number of people in the town who have nothing but distain for the miners and their families.

Sweet telling of Daniel & Molly's love story; including a larger-than-life, meddling mother, a sassy young girl, a protective father, and a mining accident. All these things together make for an enjoyable read. I downloaded book 2 immediately to continue the family saga. No spoilers here...read and enjoy!

She’s a widow with 3 grown sons. She owns a mine that had an explosion that caused a loss of jobs and trouble in the area. The oldest son visits the families left from the mine problem and meets a young woman that steals his heart. How they work through their differences and expectations make a lovely story.

Never

Read this author before. I enjoyed the story, as a one time experience. It was easy to read because it was pretty much the standard romance. Nothing happened that you weren't expecting. Different names, different town but pretty much the same as a lot of stories. It wasn't a hardship to read. But a one time only.

love can surprise you

Wow! I thought Molly a wonderful down to earth character. Daniel was a man who bore scars Elsie was such a sweet little girl. Tragedy hit Molly’s father in his work. He worried about his family since his wife died. He knew Molly took on too much. A story which wound its way onto you heart.

Bethany Springs

I loved this little tale of romance and days gone by. This story did jump around to different viewpoints but that was a good thing in this case. I loved Elsie and JoJo, they seemed as solid as the leads. Would like to have known more about Mr. Collins and Ingrid's romance. Nicely done.
