Julie Mulhern is the USA Today bestselling author of The Country Club Murders and the Poppy Fields Adventures.

She is a Kansas City native who grew up on a steady diet of Agatha Christie. She spends her spare time whipping up gourmet meals for her family, working out at the gym and finding new ways to keep her house spotlessly clean--and she's got an active imagination. Truth is--she's an expert at calling for take-out, she grumbles about walking the dog and the dust bunnies under the bed have grown into dust lions.

Julie Mulhern is my go-to author after I've finished another book that I have really enjoyed. Why? Because you die-hard book lovers will know that, once you've finished an amazing book, everything else seems to pale in comparison. The danger of slipping into a reading slump is very real! But, when I open a book by Julie Mulhern, I have absolute certainty that I'm in for another great reading experience. She is the master of compelling, comedic, can't-put-down fiction.

Fields' Guide to Smuggling is the seventh book in the Poppy Fields Adventure series. Each book is full of action and intrigue in the far corners of the world--and that touch of glamour, too! Poppy and Mark are on their way to a Grecian island for some much-needed downtime with only one another for company (well, and Consuela, of course). They just need to make one quick stop to pick up a package for Poppy's new stepfather. This is, of course, where all the trouble begins. (Russian oligarchs, what can you do?) Sun and sand quickly turn into storms and suspicions with deadly serious consequences.

Poppy's adventures are always some of my favorite stories. They are fun and fast-paced reads that never fail to leave me wanting more. (Also: what on Earth is in that box?!)

Poppy and Thor (aka Mark Stone) are off to Greece for a holiday and a bit of alone-time on the beautiful deserted island that Yurgi gave to Chariss as a wedding present – sun, sea and sand, and no paparazzi – what could possibly go wrong? Given that it is Poppy – everything!
What should have been a simple shopping spree for sandals in Athens (Poppy never goes shopping for a single item), is cut short by a run-in with sex-traffickers. And it all goes pear shaped from then on. Thankfully Thor is on side – but it is Consuela who out-does herself, shifting easily between attack dog /comfort dog / sniffer dog and decoy dog to save the day (and the young trafficked women).
As always, the writing is excellent and the plot fast paced, and exciting. Poppy has to not only deal with Russian gangsters and sex-traffickers, but also with some blatant sexism:
““We should talk. Later. I don’t want to bore Poppy.” Because I’d yawn if they discussed anything more challenging than the price of handbags? Johnny Soo didn’t carry a high opinion of women. …
“You must come again. I’ll give you a tour of the Empress.” He presented me with a business card. I studied the card in my hands. Creamy stock and gold lettering. Johnny Soo’s name and a phone number. Nothing else. “I’d like that.” “You too, Mark. We’ll let Poppy enjoy the spa and talk business.” Could the man be any more sexist?”

Of course, Poppy turns the sexism to her advantage, and proves that you should NEVER underestimate a determined woman – particularly one carrying a killer chihuahua.
Yet another superb Poppy Fields adventure – with some pertinent social comment – that I can highly recommend.

Fields' Guide to Smuggling is an incredible book. It is action packed, suspenseful and engaging. I could not put the book down. The characters are amazing and strong and talented. This book is so fun to read. I absolutely love this book and the whole series. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

I love this series. Poppy has such a good heart and amazing skills, even though she’s perpetually underestimated. Thor is perfect and Consuela is awesome (as she will be the first to tell you). I always pre-order the next book and snatch it up to read as soon as it releases and I’m never disappointed. The problem with that is having to wait for the next book! Hurry, Julie!

Fields' Guide book are fun cozy travelogue of adventures for this undercover agent and socialite, Poppy Fields.

Poppy & Mark head to Yurgi's private island in Greece for a much needed 2 week vacation. Yurgi's only request is that they stop and pick up a sealed package to take with them. The package seems to be in demand and Poppy is trailed in Corfu while shoe shopping. Poppy rescues a young woman escaping a human trafficker and meets a woman who runs a rescue mission to aid the victims.
On the island a life boat with 6 teenage girls in it, escaping Russian smugglers, washes ashore during a storm their first night. Poppy & Mark spend the rest if their vacation dodging bullets.

The world of human trafficking is not a pretty one and the sheer volume of it is mind boggling. Julie Mulhern has mixed this social issue with a cozy travelogue mystery that reminds us of the evil in this world while providing hope and a smile in Poppy's relationship with Mark aka Thor.

This book was definitely better than the last one in most aspects. FINALLY the relationship between Poppy and Thor aka Mark progressed!
https://giphy.com/clips/RobertEBlackm...

However, since this is Poppy, nothing goes easy ,NOTHING!! Going on vacation to cement the status of their relationship, first they run into bullets after running an errand for her new step father, and then have to solve the issue of human trafficking when they encounter some trafficked children. Poppy of course goes into protective, reckless mode, but this book also explores her relationship with her father and her dealing with her feelings of abandonment and now handling the up and down emotions of having him back in her life in some capacity and realizing that her definition of him putting her first will never be his reality of putting her first.

However, what i want to know is.. .what's in that package???

Everyone needs a good vacation!!!

What’s better than a relaxing, sunny vacation on a luxurious, privately owned Greek island with breath taking ocean vistas and comfy beds with sheets of too vast to imagine thread counts. Poppy Fields and her Thor, that yummy Mark Stone, have finally escaped to spend some well deserved alone time.
Only problem is that they find themselves chased by Russian mobsters who don’t understand alone time. When some others find themselves washed ashore on the island Mark and Poppy must help them and they find themselves embroiled in mysteries and the yachts of the uber wealthy.
Of course Consuela is there to lend a paw in this adventure, as are Poppy’s dad and “Mr. Brown”.
Thanks, Julie Mulhern, for another exciting and adventure-filled Poppy Fields saga. Fields Guide to Smuggling is another fun read !!! 📚❤️

Maybe one day Poppy will be able to take a vacation and actually enjoy it. This one, while stressful for Poppy and Mark, made great reading for me. I loved the Greek Isles setting and was so caught up in the smuggling ring they were tracking that I forgot they were supposed to be on vacation until she mentioned it at the end. Another fabulous adventure. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Fields' Guide to Smuggling by Julie Mulhern is so much fun and still heart touching! Poppy's heart is one of the things besides the humor that makes this series so special but she is able to be tough when she has to, especially in defending others. Like all the books in the Poppy Fields Adventures series, the pace in Fields' Guide to Smuggling is breathtaking, but I love the few slower moments just as much as the fast action. Together they show us who Poppy really is and faster ones are more likely to offer those hilarious incidences that keep the books from being too intense.
My heart bled for the girls that Poppy, Mark, and Dora were helping and we all know that human trafficking, especially of young girls, is a real thing. Poppy's reaction to her encounters was just right. The only problem with getting a new Poppy Fields book, or any book my Julie Mulhern, is that I can barely wait for the next one!

Couldn't wait to start, had to get to the end, sad it is finished.

There is no end to the adventure. No rest for a couple who wants to relax together. Timely and tough subject matter handled by a capable author with capable characters. Not a single dull page. People live, die, love, hate, get stranded, rescue others, live loud, hide quietly, poverty meets extreme wealth, and a little dog yips.

Poppy’s adventures are always a blast, and this time is no different! The cliffhanger at the end, though, may just kill me! Seriously... Ms. Mulhern, can you possibly write faster?

Trouble magnet

I just love Poppy and Mark. I'm really hoping this series continues for a long time. It is exciting and I love all the different locales. We get more of a look into Poppys upbringing. Sad so many people raised Poppy and cared more for her than her actual parents. Gunter is the best. Looking forward to next book. The box situation at the end, made me frustrated. Only complaint. This book deals with heavier topic than other books on the series. Her dog Consuala deserves all the things. Story is told from FMC POV. The romance between Poppy and Mark progresses, finally. They kept putting getting to kniw each other better off until after trouble was resolved, but trouble kept coming. I like these books because they focus on the mysteries and interpersonal relationships. Romance is there, but not focus. The relationship is consummated this book. It's not only closed door, its off page and only vaguely hinted at. So no worries if that isn't your thing. If I wanted more, I'd read a different series. I like how the author pulls you in and you end up cheering for this merry band of deadly misfits. Highly recommend.

More Poppy Please.

Each one of this series was a five. During a pandemic, there is something very satisfying about Poppy using krav maga and shooting her way into a hostage situation. You don't feel as helpless if you have Poppy and Consuela on your side. My only wish is that you would write faster!

I absolute am obsessed with this series! It’s perfect in every way. Poppy is fantastic and such an entertaining character, I love her completely! Mark, her partner and boyfriend, is a great compliment to Poppy and the most supportive and loving boyfriend you could ask for. The only complaint I have is: I need more!!!!!
