Omg!!! Finally the long awaited! Tanjiro’s sword.

Omg! Tanjiro fucking did it!!! Yessssss. Wth wait omg what a very difficult decision!

Tanjiro got strong, indeed! He can now sniff the weakness of a demon omg !!! So happy of this great progress! Not to mention he got his sword. I also remembered he was also able to approximately estimate the humans a demon has eaten. Like wow Tanjiro!!!!

Holy shit!! I also thought Nezuko was sacrificed but like holy shit!!! She can stay out on a daylight now?? Like wtf she looks like human now?? 😱

Wthhh!!! Nezuko talked!!!!!!!

Omg she was able to conquer the sunlight now omg. So happy 😭

But omg Nezuko is in great danger! Now Muzan know it he will chase her to the ends of the world wtf so happy and yet so worried.

Oh freak! Lol. I totally forgot about Zenitsu’s love for Nezuko. Now that she can talk he will be so gaga to Nezuko. Like always lol.

Omg Kagaya-sensei is getting worst I am worried for him! But also curious what his abilities are.

They should put Tanjiro as a pillar after all the words Amane said.

Omg Haganezuka is alive! Omg so happy and that hilt from Rengoku is giving me all the feels. Rengoku is a great guy.

Tanjiro’s sword is fucking GLORIOUS!!!!

I love it when Haganezuka get mad about the swords he make. I love his passion and dedication. It’s funny but admiring.

This Pillar training is interesting!!!! Many Demon Slayer should go up to being Pillar because this “Calm before the Storm” is so terrifying!

I wonder what happen to Tomioka. Maybe he is frustration no one is following his steps. But he is such a good guy and train Tanjiro. It’s just confusing but I love Tanjiro’s persistence!

Oh no, Giyu’s story. :’< OMG His story is making me cry. So sad and heartfelt.

Omg so funny!!! Kanroji’s training is hilarious! The clothes! Lol! XD

I forgot the name of the pillar who has snake but his training is questionable. Lol. Is he really a pillar? It looks like execution lol!!! Okay his name is Iguro. I think volume has the longest review from me. Lol.

A funny conversation:
Shinazugawa: Don’t get cocky, bub. I haven’t accepted you for shit.
Tanjiro: That’s totally okay! I don’t accept you either! You stabbed Nezuko, after all!
Shinazugawa: Kid’s got balls... (with a mad/annoyed expression)
LLLLOOOOLLLLL!!!!!!!!

The Pillars are Monsters! That’s for sure. But Shinazugawa has a loose screw that’s also for sure!

"Hold it! You're not getting away! I will chase you down the depths of hell and cut your head off!" [Tanjiro]

This volume had everything I love from the Swordsmiths Village Arc and Demon Slayer in general. It had been such a beautifully emotional volume, I'm still shaking from all the feelings! As an anime watcher, I already knew what will happen, but that knowledge didn't took away any emotional depth. I felt everything exactly how I felt when I saw all these events played out in the anime. What a truly magical experience.

'But before the dawn arrives and before Kanroji gets crushed, we're not gonna let that happen! We won't let you win!' [Tanjiro]

While Mitsuri's fighting a manifested dragon, the Kamado siblings and Genya are in pursuit of the Upper Rank demon, Hantengu. Everybody's doing their best, but the demon's not easy to defeat. The situation rappidly worsens and Tanjiro needs to make a quick and desperate choice: he can either save his sister or save two innocent swordsmiths.

"Good morning."

The wail that I let out when the Kamado siblings scene came had to be inhuman. I saw it in the anime and I saw it repeatedly in the social media, but it never stops making me bawl my eyes out, despite the fact that I know how it ends. It's so incredibly emotional and beautiful so much so that you just can't help, but react to it. I love the Kamado siblings with all my heart and I'm so fond of their bond, but there is also Tanjiro's pure heart. Seeing him frantically trying to cover Nezuko and desperately looking for a solution to the incredibly tough situation he found himself in was devastating to watch. No matter what choice he made, someone's life would have been taken away and Tanjiro's would have to live with that. It was truly traumatizing.

But, as we all know, after the night sun rises. In the Demon Slayer verse it can either doom you or free you. Was it a good morning? This volume has all the answers ☺️

"Survival is what separates those who manifest the mark from those who don't." [Muichiro]

The Hashiras meet again, but this time the master isn't present. His health has worsened and his wife had to take his place. Many demons had been defeated, three of Upper Ranks dead, but, despite all of the success, the war gets worse and the stakes becomes higher than ever. All the demon slayers finally gets the most awaited training, trying to become stronger and awaken their marks, but it's debatable how much they enjoy it... 😂 All of the Hashiras come together to make the Demon Slayer Corps. ready for the next battle, but can we really stand a chance against Muzan and his demons, especially now when he finally found what he was been looking for?

"I don't deserve a place in the Demon Slayer Corps." [Giyu]

Tanjiro recovers from the tough fight and comes back to training, but before he could fully lose himself to it, the master gives him a special mission which involves Tomioka Giyu. There is a hilarious scene between Tanjiro and Giyu that a Demon Slayer fan certainly knows (the "GIYU-SAAAN!" scream is truly iconic) and loves (and I'm one of them), but that's not what I want to focus on here. I need to point out the amazing parallels between Tanjiro and Giyu. Both don't feel worthy of being where they are and both are living with a survivor's guilt, which is something that, no matter if you battle it or not let's be real, will slowly kill you to the point that you will lose all the will to live. I never felt that way and I hope that I never will, but it's something that many people will certainly relate to. It's hard to lose such a mindset, to find the strength and will to keep on living despite experiencing a huge loss. But either Tanjiro nor Guyu are alone. They have each other and I'm so happy that Tanjiro reached out to Giyu, never leaving him despite the other acting cold and trying to distance himself, and that he never stopped offering an understanding and kind smile. It was such a beautiful and wholesome interaction, I loved it so much.

"I don't have a little brother." [Sanemi]

This Shinazugawa brothers interaction was something that I've been both looking forward to and dreading it, because, as much as I love to see these brothers, that particular scene was heartbreaking. All Genya ever wanted was to meet his brother again, to apologize and reconcile, but Sanemi, unfortunately, didn't gave him a chance. He reacted how I would expect him to, even if I didn't watch that scene beforehand. He acted all cold and distant, demanding of Genya to quit his career in the Demon Slayer Corps, mocking him for not having any talent. It was cruel, incredibly cruel, but I understood why he did what he did. He doesn't hate Genya, I will NEVER believe that he hates Genya and doesn't want to have anything to do with him. I think that he acted how he acted, because he CARES. He wanted Genya to be far away from the demon slayers, because he wanted him to be safe, built his life somewhere else, without getting more trauma than he already had to deal with. I have to admit, though, that he went too far with his actions when he started to become violent. I can understand his cruel words, but not his choice of using force against both Genya and Tanjiro when Tanjiro rightfully stood up to protect Genya. It was uncalled for, no matter if his intentions were good or not. You can do better, Sanemi. I still love you and believe in you, brother.

"Training ground?! No! Hell ground!" [Zenitsu]

All the demon slayers are getting through training now, including our main trio. Nothing's easy, though, especially not the training grounds prepared by Mitsuri, Obanai and Sanemi. The difference between the Hashiras reactions at seeing Tanjiro was so funny to watch! And everybody's struggles as well! I wish I could see more of it, but I understand that the clock is ticking. Muzan can make his move at any time, so we have to be prepared. We can either get stronger and face the enemy or we will die. Simple as that.

Tanjiro and his friends went though all of the Hashira training grounds, except for Gyomei's one. What did the leader of the Hashira prepare for us? We will see in the next volume! ☺️

TW// murder (including of siblings)

This volume was freaking amazing. So many of my favorite characters returned in this volume. I’m so glad I managed to dodge spoilers for most of this volume so that I could be properly shocked by all the characters who are in this one.

There were a couple scenes in the anime that I found to be a little cringey/awkward and I was surprised to find that they weren’t that way in the manga. I definitely prefer the manga versions for the end of the Swordsmith Village arc. I’m not sure if it was just a translation issue, but the “thank goodness” part in the anime annoyed me to no end and I’m so glad the dialogue was different in the manga.

I can’t wait for the second half of this volume to be adapted for the anime. There’s so many panels in this volume that I’d love to see animated.

Super proud of myself for getting ahead of the anime. It’s rare when that happens for me but it always so fun. 🩷

Holy shit, this volume was hilarious! I don't know what it is with Demon Slayer, but there are certain volumes where Gotouge goes all-out with the humor and it works! Tanjiro's interactions with Giyu were easily the funniest, but Inosuke and Zenitsu got in some great moments as well!

I'm so happy we get to see the other Hashiras in action, especially Iguro. I like his not-so-secret crush on Kanroji and would love to see his breathing in combat. His training was awful, though, and it speaks to how little patience he has for failure or irritants. Kanroji was as wonderful as ever and I loved her trying to explain how she got her mark. She and Tanjiro how more in common than originally thought!

One thing I kind of want to address, though, is the story. For those of you not aware, the series ended this year and it will only be 23 volumes long. That means there are only 8 volumes left, making this is relatively short series considering its story. The issue that I think a lot of readers have, and one that I've noticed, is that plot points tend to come and go with little fanfare or things that seemed like they would be important later (such as the Blue Spider Lily) are just tossed to the wayside. Considering what the series has been up until this point, I feel like this is a more action/battle centric series that isn't as concerned about its story as long as it makes sense. The problem, though, is that being dismissive of plot points (or just abandoning them entirely) makes your story weaker and not as compelling. That being said, I still love the series and thoroughly enjoy it for what it is: an action packed, funny, heartfelt, and character-driven fantasy story. I won't say that people aren't right to be annoyed, they most certainly are, I just wanted to bring attention to this and offer my thoughts.

This was just an overall fun volume that I had a blast reading. Demon Slayer is easily one of my favorite series right now and I'm loving every volume I devour. Hopefully the next one comes soon, I want to learn more about the Stone Hashira!

How and what the when and why???

So... I closed this volume feeling sorry for everyone 😂🤣😭 Tanjirou goes through... a lot in this arc. I will always love him for remaining a shining ray of pure sunlight while being surrounded by these wholesome blockheads.

2023 Re-read - Pretty much agree with everything I said below. Still solid in all the right places, and a few funny moments I actually missed first time I read it or least forgot. Excited to get into volumes 16+ where the series goes insane. But still great building blocks.

Original Review: This volume finishes up the baddie from the last volume. In a sense this arc was a bit messy and not as exciting as the last but it still had great moments. The shining moment here is actually all about Nezuko. I'm not going to spoil it but even I gasped and nothing ever really surprises me while reading anymore.

But this volume is very much the transition volume to the next arc. After the first 1/3rd wrapping up the last arc we get pretty much a small recovery and get to see the Hashira talking about obtaining the ultimate power to stop the demons. But then we get into Tanjiro and his training to become stronger and basically we see how training works with the Hashira. It's all really fun, lots of great gags.

The best moment is with Tanjiro and Giyu. This volume lets a lot of characters break their "Silent mode" and become actual people. There's a wonderful small backstory for Giyu and you get to see who he is and why he does what he does. All really solid stuff on that end.

The art seem to be a bit lacking here. Maybe rushed in some panels? Lacking the great detail I usually expect. It's not every page or anything but I noticed it in the second half a few times. Least the comedy bits worked really well.

Demon Slayer continues to be one of the best Mangas in recent years. Even in the weaker volumes like here I still enjoyed a ton of it. I'm so eager to see where we go from here. A 4 out of 5.

This volume was another good one! As Tanjiro defeats the demon Hantensu after gaining his power and concentration the other demons there also dissipate but the swordsmen village was destroyed and had to be relocated and there are good moments with his new sword and we find Nezuko has new powers so people will be coming after her and a big war is coming. They recover and the Hashiras start training to gain some mark and so Tanjiro and the other boys also have to train and there are comedic moments and great moments for Sanemi and Giyu. Loved this volume and focus on Tanjiro balancing it with insane characters and good comedic moments and also for shining a light on the training aspects and that insane last page. The big revelation changes the whole manga for good for sure.

2024: sabito ily and its wild that the training is becoming an actual season. they've already added a good bit more and expanded scenes into the season than just in the manga. now while this arc being an entire season is completely unnecessary, I WILL eat it up happily

2023: reread but not sure this volume will be in the swordsmith village arc movie. one of my favorite volumes and hoping for a great training montage (i’d watch an entire season of them just training ngl). rengoku and sabito flashbacks don’t make me cry

i’m OBSESSED with this volume.

I'm loving this arc of training. Getting to know a bit more about the rest of the Hashira is sooo interesting. Tanjiro is for sure the best of the best, I love him so much.

Giyu finally talking about Sabito got me almost in tears, I just love him so much.

So much going on here; I'll spoiler-tag my thoughts on the story here and then give my general thoughts on the title overall:

I've wondered for awhile why this title takes place during the Taishō era as opposed to the Meiji period or late-Edo period. I think it may be a meta-commentary on modernity, but I'm not sure. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba could be my favorite manga right now if not for the art and story-pacing. The Promised Neverland (which share the same publisher) still edges it out at both. The pacing was actually a little better here, but only by a slim-margin. Koyoharu Gotouge handles the art and story of the manga, so you can't argue that the decompressed story is the fault of differences with the creative team, but still the story is good even if it is obvious the author is writing for the trades. I'm glad I won't have to wait long for the next volume (yes I'm trying to read the English translation for this title the right way unlike the rest of the reviewers of this book (though some of y'all might be reading the actual licensed-translated chapter releases).
