Damn it. Is it my fault, were my expectations too high? Sam and Adaline's story has been building over the previous two books, now that it's their turn, I'm completely underwhelmed.
There was little actual story, in this story. Surprisingly little happens, perhaps because from the first line Sam and Adaline are in love. And the only things left in their path to prevent their happiness are just... well stupid.
All the things that had captured my imagination - Sam's dreams of the world burning or everyone suffocating - they are just tossed aside as no longer relevant. NNNNOOOOO! That's the story I wanted. How does he fix those futures.
Instead this story is nothing but a long drawn out meeting of two families getting to know each other when their adult children hook up. There is a lost child - big deal. And there are a never ending parade of characters - so many people, and the author kept adding more and more - and often gave them nicknames or power names - that wasn't confusing at all.
And all these people do is sit around and talk, and talk and talk. The magical explanations never stop coming - yet, still too often fail to make sense - Walker/Mistress Mother/Father - Pillars, elements, circles, holders - the history of other circles - there had to be an easier, quicker way of getting all this across without chapters and chapters of this stuff. It was repetitive and still confusing.
And lets add even more mysterious characters that hint and drop teasers and explain but don't explain what's going on. Not annoying at all.

And considering how all powerful Walker/Mistress are - I just don't get how the Hunters can get their hooks into them, or any of the other powers - no doubt it was mentioned in the never ending info dumps provided in this book, I probably zoned out. But these hunters don't ring true as a threat.

The author ends this novel abruptly - really, really abruptly. It kind of just stops. But not before she's teased us with some indecipherable conversation between James and Micah. And let drop that Ree doesn't have cancer but something worse is going on with him. Points for that teaser

I kept going forward with this series because of Sam. And here is book 3 Sam's story and, I have nothing. Very little story. And almost no romance.
First, the romance. Sam and Adaline are in love from the moment you crack this book open (fated if you will - which is both the hardest love to convince readers of. And sometimes the laziest device authors use because they just tell us about it, rather than show us). Okay, I can maybe believe they are totally in love. But they don't know one another. Nor do they know one another in the physical sense. But since they have been sharing dreams (horrific, generally end-of-world stuff) since they were kids, the author insists that is enough for these two to jump right into the sack. Yeah, maybe. But once they finish, that was when I needed them to truly form a connection. Instead the author just presumes that sex is the key in the lock and we are done on that front. I feel beyond cheated.

Same goes on the storyline front. No burning world. No entire population suffocating. Sam has an epiphany where he finally understands his powers and click - all those bad futures are sorted. Um, okay. So the author instead is going to double down and thrill me with all sorts of tense situations and keep me gripped? And that would be a no on that front. Another reviewer mentioned the word - magical-splaining - and that's pretty much all that happens here. Talk. Talk. Talk. Most of it doesn't even make sense.

Yikes - this was nothing but magical-splaining, with hardly any story. I was told a heap of stuff, then told some historical magical stuff, told a load more stuff, and then just to change things up, I was told even more magical stuff.
Too many identities/people with multiple names/power names and nicknames - the magic-splaining really didn't help on the Mistress/Walker, Mother/father, holders, anchors, pillars, Lords, Ladies etc, etc, etc. GAH, it's too much.
Adaline has almost no personality - giving her a tough background history does not give me much idea of who she is, what drives her, what kind of person she is right now (the exact same thing the author did to Lucy in book 2) other than she wears a nightie, eats berries and likes to sleep in the forest there is little I know about Addy as she is now. Way to make her magically one dimensional.

Not only did I feel cheated by this book because there really wasn't much of a plot/story, but considering this was Sam's moment to shine - and I was led to believe in earlier books that he needed to save this world and potentially every other world - but then in a blink of an eye, he didn't. That's all sorted.

I feel like someone just patted me on the head and told me not to worry my pretty little head about stuff like that. Way to suck out all the tension.

Please let Micah end up with Ethan. Please please please.

Sam and Addy were straight forward, no break up efforts there. It was sweet and a little terrifying given how powerful they were before taking the roles. It was sad everyone was afraid of Sam, and a little creepy with the goddess gifting thing. Nice that everyone is getting to grips with their own roles, although poor Matthew. He hasn't stuck out much until the spotlight was put on him. Was expecting the duo after reading Hank's story.

Not sure how I feel about the other circle or the way Jared keeps getting singled out. Feels a bit traitor in the circle. Poor Matty being the power guinea pig. Ethan was by far the saddest character. Micah is quickly becoming my fave, although Hank being the instigator of the betting pool was fun. I'm loving the series. Not really a Noah fan, so we'll see on the next one.

Addicted to this series!

I am so addicted to this series. It is a great mix of "chick lit" and paranormal fantasy.
I like the concept of embodiment of power focused as emotion, and how that is balanced and tempered by the person's true self.
I am laughing and crying with the characters.
When I read I tend to focus on the story and characters and ignore the quality of writing, unless it is especially bad. This writing is ok. The fact that ebooks seem not to be edited as well as "traditional" books isn't helping. But I've fallen in love with several characters and concepts of the story . I would love to be a part of this family!
I plan to finish the series. I have read the first 3 books in about as many days and I feel that after this book is a good time to take a break.
There is one more book out and rest of the series will be out later this year. I am highly anticipating the reading them over the holidays.

Sam and Addy

Darla has breast cancer, so one of her friends sends her to get some energy to help her thru the chemo. There they find others like their sons at Ava's, who can control their powers. Sam is communicating with Adeline and figured out finally where she is. The whole Trellis family and significant others all go back to Ava's. Addy is Ava's daughter. They form a circle of power to stabilize all the energy

So I found that either you loved it it you hated it. Well, I’ve laughed out loud, I couldn’t wait to finish and it had everything from magic to dream walker to the kitchen sink…

Sam was one of a kind, he knew the future and he had to find Adeline. The power Sam and Addy and the discovery of their circle were powerful. Like I said, either you loved it or you hated it and I for one loved this fun romantic read.

This series is amazing. It is hard for me to get "hooked" on a book. I was hooked from the first book. Each one pulled on every single emotion. I was shook that this one ended so abruptly and I hope there is more to come.

I loved it!

Although it gave a different approach to the main characters story, I liked it.

It is more a explaining about the world in which the story develops, but I found it interesting to think/reflect on emotions and life. It is a magical world, of course, but who says we cannot relate?

With the bickering and giggles still there with Trellis family's heart...

I want more.... :D

Let's continue building the circle!

Wonderfully addictive series

I loved this book, it is the third book in the series, each book builds into the next, each one better than the next. I cannot wait til the next book in the series.

Basic Plot: Sam and Addy come together and the whole family starts to see the bigger picture at work.

If you haven't read the previous books, you're going to be confused. Even if you have read the previous books, by this point the cast list has gotten so large that you're probably going to be confused, too. I found myself utterly lost with several names at various points- is it a brother barely introduced? A villain? Someone else? No idea. People are starting to blend together, and that's not good.

There was also a decided shift in the direction of the focus of the series. The first book was decidedly romance, with just a splash of paranormal tossed in, barely in passing. There was significantly more paranormal and less romance in the second, and that's fine. This book, though, I barely would have called romantic at all. Again, that's fine, but it isn't what the book is billed as. I can tell the author had ideas about what she wanted to write, but romance sells, so she decided to start there and then take a turn in the direction she wanted to go with each successive book. As a result, the actual plot of the series is taking way too long to build, and because the characters have NO IDEA what's going on with the cosmic wellsprings of power they have access to, they have to be taught what to do. There was so much information dumped on the clueless characters that it got actively boring at times to read. The worldbuilding for the whole series pretty much ALL happened in this book. As far as plot goes, not a lot happened in this book because of all the infodumping. It was shorter than the previous volumes by a significant margin and still took me longer to read.

I found myself getting bored and having a hard time finishing the book, so I don't think I'm actually going to finish this series at this point.

These books hook you from the very beginning, and are amazing. I read all three in one day, now I have to wait until June :(. The series is well written and edited! If you have not read them, I suggest you do you will not be disappointed! This book adds on to the characters within the story, allowing you to get more of the trellis family. The well written story is incredibly hilarious as the antics of the eight boys takes unexpected moments to enhance the book. Loved it! Sam finally find his love, Adelaide.

FASCINATING STORY!😊

Sometimes as I read this book I didn't understand completely or easily parts of it in regards to the different levels of the "energy" and "power" but I still could not put it down!!! Then I thought because of all the Pillars that it was an allegory of life.... Which would make a lot of sense because of all the conflicting emotions that the brothers and Beth represent,. All of which, each of us, at one time or another have struggled with or experienced. The Watcher and the Mistress makes sense viewed in that way too... Good and Evil... balance versus harshness, etc. All of it is represented. In this amazing series!!!

I am so glad that when I came across this series yesterday there were already four books available so I didn't have to wait for the next one. I am about to read the fourth one ..... I have been immersed in this family saga non-stop... And fascinated by this family's dynamics..... Each person featured in this book is unique, interesting, mesmerizing and wonderful a character to follow! I highly recommend this book and the others in the series if you like a book that is mysterious, jaw-dropping in parts, with lots of twists and turns, wonderful family closeness, plus steamy and loving relationships!!!!!!!😇

I was lured into the 'Building the Circle' series by Maggie M Lily when I read the first book, 'The Call'. I knew it was a series, I did not know that I would get sucked down the rabbit hole that is the Trellis family. This is not a series where each book is its own story like the cover suggests. You have to start at book 1 and read through book 6 to get the whole story of this amazing and loving family.

'The Call' introduces the majority of the characters and hints at a larger plot-line, but mainly focuses on Matty and Jake. It was a slow burn, coworkers-to-friends-to-lovers romance, not particularly spicy and a slow build for sure. Still, I found it to be deeply entertaining and charming. I laughed at the antics of her best friends, found my heart breaking at their struggles, and loving the characters. And the best part. The series just got better from there.

While each sibling finds their HEA throughout the series, I found myself enraptured with the characters, the plot-line, and how the story unfolded. Each successive book pulled me deeper and deeper, until I was so entrenched in their family's story and struggles, in seeing them flourish and triumph, that the romance aspect of it was just another layer to the plot rather than the purpose of the book.

I would highly recommend giving 'Building the Circle' series a shot. I think you will fall in love with the Trellis family as much as I did. Happy reading! ~Kay

You might need a seating chart

Okay, I've been reading these one right after the other. This book really starts giving you all the detail about their powers and how they interact with each other and how they are supposed to help the world. When they are building their circle, you will need a seating chart to follow how the different characters ( and their powers) are arranged. Things are starting to make more sense now and the action is fast paced and exciting. I can't wait to start the 4th book. There are still unattached siblings that need to find their mates, and the entire circle is going to have to figure out how to use their powers together. Plus, I just love the family dynamics... all the teasing and arguing and snarking and tattling on each other but still having each others back. It's funny and realistic. It reminds me of my family.

This didn’t go the way I was hoping; Sam has been my favorite and I really wanted him to get his romance and some peace/happiness… instead we get a fuckton of stress and strife, everyone fearing and distrusting him, and a bunch of new, confusing information about the Walker/Mistress thing. I’m glad we finally get some answers, although it takes almost the entire book to sort a handful of them and a lot of being dicked around by the former Walker/Mistress pair. And it definitely makes things more interesting to figure out the rest of the family’s powers and we have enough unanswered questions to keep interest in reading the next book.

I’m just disappointed with all the build up that Sam gets less than 48 hours with his girl before they’re put through the ringer again, and again. I want Sam to be happy and finally feel loved.

Book 1 was more of a rom-com. Book 2 brought more of the paranormal/magic to the forefront but still with the crazy family interchanges. Book 3 is full blown paranormal. There is still romance - Sam's story , but the mystical plays a bigger role and many more characters are introduced.
Sam has always been intriguing and you could tell everything was going to eventually revolve around him. Since the first book, we knew of his violet eyed dream girl. Finally, these two powerhouses are joined. Sam finally finds Adaline which allows a sigh of relief. But it is not really a very warm welcome to start. Poor Sam...I wanted to reach in and give him a huge hug! Everyone new fears him and shirks away. His power terrifies them. But Sam and Adaline balance each other and soon a Circle of power is built. But this is only the beginning and the Trellis family has much more to learn.

Let me preface by saying that I am on the last book of the Circle series but I will refrain from giving any spoilers beyond this book. OMG, you took me there Ms. Lily this book is by far my favorite, and it's because this book centers around Sam and Addy, and omg this one broke me. I was hoping I would not have to wait until the last book to get Sam's story and I did not. OMG this book took me through all the emotions I cannot Sam is my favorite brother with Noah coming in at a very close second. This book was the epitome of an information dump. You found out so much and so many questions are answered that I would not have been surprised if this was the last book lol. This book also gave me so many new questions but that's what happens when "Midas" has his book third lol.

I am totally shocked! Blown away!

Sam and Addy's story is amazing! The story is amplifying in huge ways. The family is all here and you get to learn more about each of their powers even as they learn them themselves.

We get to go to Addy's family this time and learn more about Ava as well as Addy's sister Jess. Not being a part of their own circle there is only so much Ava and Jess could do on their own.

Now with the whole Tillis family here things get interesting fast. Sam learns more about who he really is and his connection to Addy becomes concrete.

All together they become a circle and oh my, the power is immense!

So ready to read more of this couple and all of their family connections. Enjoy

Good, but a challenging read

I like this series, it's different from anything else I've read. The Trellis family is the kind where you really, really hope you get invited to all Sunday dinners. Or even better, catch the eye of one of the extremely wealthy brothers! But as each book adds to the series, it's more challenging read. Why? Well, we start with a family with two parents, eight boys and one girl. Then we add love interests and other characters as they appear. We even give different names to some of them!
What we end up with is a detailed story with an incredibly imaginative plot. I read this book slowly, even going back a page to re-read and clarify a detail. I definitely recommend it, and I hope that you enjoy these as much I did.

Nope not gonna spoil...just gonna babble, if your intrigued by life/time energy this is the book for you. Love a good love story, with all the feels with a lil....supernatural mumbojumbo...Im not a full believer in a human wielding powers of earths energy but I do respect they don't take out the God factor, but leave what if out there...what if you were given the power to hold that energy and would you do good or would you let the power take over all humanity in your mind...I'd like to believe i would stay centered and help the world, but i love seeing how the characters fight within themselves and amongst family...if you've seen Lucifer on Netflix it has the same vibe...personally, i love it!

More answers, more questions…

I am loving this series! Yes, you absolutely will need it in order. No, you will never really have any idea what is going on or will happen next. I love that we are learning things as we go, right along with the characters. Each new bit of information manages to answer some questions while creating more. We’ve known since book 1 that Sam was special, but I’ve loved watching him come into his own and find his violet eyed girl. It’s great to see everyone coming into their power as they embrace it and learn more. And as always, the banter is hilarious and spectacular. This family is amazing!!

In this book everyone meets. The powers are all explained. Sam and Adeline have some big choices to make. This is not a cliff hanger but some new people are introduced to keep things interesting.

This is a great new series with a unique and different storyline. I was getting tired of the same old repeated romances over and over with just a few different names thrown around. Then I switch to paranormal and if it’s not vampires, Fairies or werewolves, now
they’re all “Midlife”! I’m really enjoying a whole series of something different. At least until somebody copies it.

3.5 stars rounded up. Ending in the middle of a conversation but at least the story kinda ended? The next is a continuation of this book so I don’t know. I continue to love most of the characters but this time some new ones were added. Still very unsure about any of the new ones. I couldn’t give this a solid 4 stars due to how almost technical it was about energy. Over and over again. I got tired of all the explanations about energy flow to and from people and releasing it and pushing it out and on and on. So I left it at 3.5 stars rounded up.
