When You Found Me: The Princes of Allura Novella Collection

Rate this book
The Princes of Allura were not looking for love, yet they may find it in the strangest of places.

Better His Way:
Nicholas is battling a past that is haunting him at every turn. When his father announces a contest to find brides for his three sons, Nicholas alone is intrigued. Then he meets Della, a feisty young woman who has a heart for those around her.

Della has no desire to win a prince. She wants to remain in Findley and run her father’s shop. But Prince Nicholas is causing all her well-placed plans to crumble. When her maid comes to her with an even bigger dilemma, Della must decide if she is willing to trust God and His plans for her life.

Through His Eyes:
Collins has been banished to Ableton, a small town miles away from his home in Findley. Broken by the mistakes he’s made, but trying to hold himself together, he pushes away his failures, determined to redeem the future. But the past has a way of haunting.

Sage wants nothing to do with the arrogant, infuriating Sir Collins. Yet, the more she learns about him, the stronger her bond with the hidden prince becomes. When danger comes knocking, and Sage has to take matters into her own hands, her loyalty is put to the ultimate test.

Then There Was Grace:
The price of the war with Ironwolf has grown high, and Benjamin is not pleased with this father’s plan to bring peace. Marriage to the Princess of Ironwolf is the last thing he wants, especially when he sees the happiness his brothers have found.

Aurora is terrified of her arranged marriage to the Crown Prince of Allura, but she’s determined to see it through in order to bring peace for her people. When she meets the quiet, stoic Benjamin, she begins to wonder if love might not be so out of reach as she once thought.

With a twist on Biblical narratives, When You Found Me is a collection of light, uplifting romances for fairytale lovers everywhere!

When You Found Me is such a sweet, tender, and beautiful collection of novellas inspired by the biblical accounts of Esther, Ruth, and Jael! I was convinced by all the lovely Goodreads reviews by my friends (and friends of my friends; you know how social media works), and I was not disappointed!

Admittedly, the three princes’ of Allura’s stories have their faults. There were several typos and errors, but who am I to judge that? None of the mistakes took away from the stories (despite my sharp editor’s eye), which were short but well-developed for their length.

I never really connected with any of the characters, but I think they were all very solid, nonetheless. What felt missing to me was a bit of worldbuilding, I reckon, since I couldn’t see Allura vividly or feel connected to the goings-on such as the border wars and all. I think that’s where most all “fantasy” fairytale (or, in this case, biblical) retellings fail—too much focus on retelling the story and not enough focus on making the world your own.

My favorite story? Oy, that’s a tough one. I’d say I’m torn between Collin and Sage’s and Benjamin and Aurora’s. Those were the most interesting to me, and I really loved seeing Sage’s story unfold into the story of Jael!

Speaking of...my main qualm was that both Della and Sage were so against marriage. Like, I guess it just breaks my traditional (or chauvinist, call me what you will) heart to not just read about girls who buck against marriage (and authority, but that’s a story for another day) but to see them. As if marriage were not a God-instated union established for our good rather than our detriment. Marriage is something to honor and respect, not eschew (unless you’re going by Paul’s views on singleness, which I support in the right context). Sage did a better job at, I don’t know, not being so forceful, but Della turned me off on Page 1 by being so adamant against marriage. Then, lo and behold, she ups and marries a prince! Like, what happened to your independence, girl?

Ahem. Pardon the rant there. I suppose that’s just been on my heart lately. Aside from all of that, I did enjoy the stories. Of course, my fondness is deeper for the princes than it is for their brides (as always), and I do love how tastefully Augustine wove Collin into the stories as both the Haman figure and a hero in his own right. I love a good redemption story!

I think, with the right amount of polish, the Princes of Allura could shine! Without it, though, they are still lovely novellas of love and redemption, and enjoyable to read!

This book is just so good. I don't know how to talk about my feelings.
The first novella was good. It had a contest aspect to it, which was really good. The characters were well rounded and the world was introduced really well. At the end, I gave it four stars and moved on. The second novella was about my least favourite character from the first one and I was really scared about how I would feel reading it. However, Anna introduced her amazing bits of faith and this story really took off. It was so full of love, forgiveness, and redemption. I didn't think anything would top it. Then the third story came around and I absolutely died. It was even better and the whole concept was centered around some of my favourite tropes. The epilogue at the end of each novella was amazing. The epilogue at the very end of the book was just... even more precious. I am dying for more in this world.

This book brought tears to my eyes. This was such a breathtaking novella that held so much wisdom, romance, and grace. Anna wrote a novel that will impact your life one way or another. There will be once character that you find yourself relating to even if you haven't walked their exact walk. Anna definitely has a beautiful gift in writing.

Better His Way:
This story was probably my favorite. Della and Nicholas were amazing characters that I instantly connected with. Della was such a sweetheart and her personality made me laugh. She was so witty and wouldn't let anyone walk on her. Nicholas was a cinnamon roll (you will hear this a lot) who stole my heart. He probably was my favorite prince, if I HAD to chose one. I just loved his personality so much. 😍 I also loved that this story was a slight retelling of Esther. Esther is one of my favorite bible stories so I was so happy that Anna decided to do a retelling of it! I loved and kind of related with the whole theme throughout this story. I loved how Anna wrote a story about how sometimes our wills for our lives is not God will, but His will is so much greater and better than we could ever have imagined for ourselves!!

Through His Eyes
Collins story literally brought tears to my eyes. I loved reading about his redemption story. I loved how Sage was so compassionate with him and his story. I related to her so much in that area. I loved reading about how prayer works and how God truly does change someone's life. Though Collins was a butt in the beginning, he slowly transformed into the cinnamon roll of a character that he is in the last novella. I just loved this story so much. *sighs* 😍

Then There Was Grace
This story was another retelling of one of my favorite Bible stories (although Ruth is at the top of my list). I loved reading about Benjamin and Aurora's story. Arranged marriage tropes is one of my favorite tropes that I don't read a lot, so I highly enjoyed reading one. Benjamin was a such a broody, cinnamon roll and I LOVED it!!! 😍 He was so sweet and caring and I loved how he cared and wanted to protect Aurora as much as possible. Aurora's story broke me. My heart ached to hug her so many times. Her character I definitely related with one so many levels. Although I have never even remotely experienced what she did, I definitely feel and think some of the same things. I just loved reading about their story and seeing how God is able to move through people in the most unexpected ways!!!

Overall, this novella collection is not one you want to miss. I loved every single one of them. Really, I don't think I can truly pick a favorite story. They each were unique and special in their own way! 🙈 They each have a special place in my heart and I cannot wait to revisit these amazing characters again. 😍😭💙

Oh, my poor heart. I adored Nicholas and Della's romance. Collin and Sage's story was so amazing and beautiful. Benjamin and Aurora are such wonderful characters. This is my favorite novella collection I ever recall reading. Honestly, it's one of my new favorite books.

Pros:
--> The adorable romances.
--> The life-like characters.
--> The fun length of the novellas.
--> The worldbuilding.
--> Generally just fascinating, I-don't-want-to-stop-reading stories.

Cons:
--> The writing style was a little unprofessional at times. That's all the cons I got.

Content: Lots of romance, and it gets pretty intense without ever going into much if any gag-worthy detail about how they smell and kiss and such. Continue for minor spoilers (no names):

Recommendation: 15/16+ because of the spoilers above.

2022 Review:

I’ve read this book 3 times in the last year, and it gets better with each reread! Anna’s writing is both engaging and beautiful, her dialogue stellar, her characters relatable, and the romances tender and sweet! (I’m Team Benjamin all the way 😉) I will happily read anything Anna writes!

Original Review:

Let me start off by saying this was one of my top reads of 2021…in fact, I enjoyed it so much, I read it twice! The marriages of three brothers told in three stories with plots loosely constructed around biblical narratives. Benjamin and Aurora’s story was my favourite because…well, my personality is a mix of the two of them. (Which at times was almost uncanny because it was like reading about myself as a character but totally amazing at the same time.) And the ending…ah! If you know you know! A sweet and touching read…in all probability, I’ll read it again in 2022!

For some reason, it never clicked that this was a novella collection until I actually started reading it. So, way to go for me for reading the fine print. xD

I appreciated the Biblical retellings and sweet, clean romances that Anna wrote about in this collection. The third novella, Then There Was Grace was definitely my favorite. That style of romance, plus the beautiful way it was told, is a trope I wish there was more of (that remained clean!).

I was disappointed that there wasn't more to the stories regarding descriptions of places or world-building (the third novella had the most detail, which I appreciated), but I do understand that these are novellas and not full-blown novels. I would have liked to see a bit more accuracy on the medieval aspect, but do understand that this is fantasy and some rules are flexible in that regard. I personally am not a fan of such swift romance building, but I think again that that's merely because I'm used to reading slow-burn novels and not shorter stories, so that's just a personal preference.

Ahhh guys!! This book was so good and beautiful! Each novella fully immersed me with their lovable characters, sweet and sometimes heartbreaking story, and message of faith.

All three princes and their girls were well developed. I liked how Anna made flawed, broken characters that weren't annoying and were easy to love. I loved all of the characters: Nicholas, Collins, Benjamin, Della, Sage, and Aurora! Though Collins took a second to like, that boy, but I thought his character arc was written really well. I also really, really liked Lucius, and would love to read about him now! *hint hint author* XP

My favorite novella was probably Then There was Grace, the third one and Benjamin's story. Marriages of convenience/arranged marriages is one of my favorite romance tropes, so obviously I liked this one, and I really loved Aurora. She's broken and scared, yet learns to love and open up. Plus I liked seeing the couples from the previous novellas together. Their interactions were so sweet!

I loved how each novella was a retelling of sorts of different Biblical tales and had great messages woven in them, yet not preachy at all.

I highly recommend this book to all fantasy lovers who like swoonworthy romance that's clean and wholesome!

Anna Augustine's stories are not only sweet, but they get to the heart of the matter in a profound way. "When You Found Me" is a timeless collection of short stories about the Princes of Allura and how they overcome trials and find love in the midst of their brokenness. Augustine excels in witty dialogue, and her interweaving of Christian themes is beautiful.

Highly recommend! I look forward to more writings from this author in the future!

When You Found Me is a charming collection.ofnshorr stories of the Princes of Allura. I loved the different points of view the author included; especially the focus on the princes. More often than not so authors only provide the female perspective in a love story and I thoroughly enjoyed the male perspectives within these novellas. I only wish they were longer!

Can we take a moment to gawk at the cover?? 😍

This is a unique novella collection about three brothers in the Kingdom of Allura. Each of the three stories are retellings from the Bible. Esther, the Prodigal Son (at least that’s what I’m assuming??), and Ruth.

I thought it was super cute the way Anne Augustine redid them. She kept key factors of the story and used similar situations to teach her characters the same lessons.

It was a relaxing read and I flew through each story.

As with every writer there’s always somewhere to grow. In this case (considering it was self published), there were some random sentences that had weird structure/wording and it pulled me from the story (she honestly did a great job tho self publishing). Beyond this there were certain scenes in each story that were full of cringe, but it passed quickly enough. 😅

I was kinda afraid that each brother’s love interest would have the same personality. And while they did seem similar, their character flaws were different along with some of their strengths. SO. ✨ But Aurora was the complete opposite of Sage and Della.

Anyways (😅) the moral of the story is what matters. All three of these novellas encouraged me and made my heart light. While it wasn’t deep emotion (like that of Moonscript or Dawnsong) it did touch me.

The last story was my fav. ✨

When You Found Me is an encouraging, enjoyable collection of stories about the princes of Allura. Each story is even better than the one before, building to a beautiful conclusion with Benjamin and Aurora.

Anna Augustine wonderfully portrays characters who are broken and in need of a Savior. I loved how each main character exhibited growth in their story. Each redemption arc was real and showed the wonderful saving grace of God! (Collins was definitely my favorite, though. His arc is so beautiful!)

With beautiful characters, strong relationships, and a wonderful message, I would recommend When You Found Me to all readers! I’m so proud to say my friend wrote such wonderful stories!

Wow! I loved these novellas. They were sweet and touching, but they weren’t just fluff. When You Found Me is a collection of novellas written by Anna Augustine. These novellas feature the princes of Allura as they find love in the most unlikely of places. They had such a fun twist on Biblical narratives, and I really enjoyed reading them.
The first novella was Better His Way which is about the second son, Nicholas. This is an adorable twist on Esther which I thought was really cool. Nicholas was hurting. He had seen horrible things because of the war, and it has left him scarred. Della was stubborn and stuck in her ways. She didn’t want to marry a prince but God had other plans. It didn’t feel like instant romance, but they fell in love as they truly saw the other person. This was a touching story with a reminder that God knows that heart.
Through His Eyes is about Collins, the youngest son who is living with the guilt of his past. He only wanted to feel accepted and loved, but instead he made choices that led him away from his family. Collins had to learn how to trust that God would forgive his past, that God can forgive even things that we can’t. Sage didn’t like the arrogant prince, but as she gets to know him she sees a man who is hurting. Sage was a lot of fun to read about. She didn’t take anything from anyone. She was loyal to a fault, and once she was on your side, she would defend you for life. This was a wonderful story about redemption and learning from mistakes made in the past.
This one was my favorite! I adored the characters and the story. Then There was Grace is a retelling of Ruth, and I thought it was such a sweet story! Benjamin was such a sweetheart and he just wanted to lead his people well, if that meant marrying the enemy then he would do it. Aurora was resigned to her fate, but she would marry the prince to save her people. I adored reading about Aurora and Benjamin as they learned to trust each other and fell in love. They were both broken people who needed each other. They had such a sweet romance and I just loved this novella.
All in all, this collection was amazing! I would definitely recommend it and I am excited to see what else Augustine writes. This is a must read book. When You Found Me is a collection of clean sweet novellas. I would recommend this to 13 years and up.

Anna Augustine's writing is filled with lovable characters, suspenseful events, redemption, and sweet romance! "When You Found Me" is an enthralling collection of novellas about a marvelous family and their stories as they learn how to love Christ and each other more.

By some magical means, Anna weaves humor, adventure, deep life-lessons, and fantasy all into one set of novellas! I don't know how she does it, but God has gifted her in a wonderful way! And if you disagree, I will send all of her handsome, strong men and beautiful (also strong) women to harass you until you love them! ;)

Speaking of Anna's characters....prepare yourselves for my ranting because I LOVE THESE CHARACTERS!!!❤Like, seriously, this family is AMAZING!!! I found myself rooting for these lovely people (why do they have to be fictional???) throughout their stories! I wish I could hang out with them and live in their lovely kingdom. The kingdom of Allura is one of the best kingdoms out there with THE BEST rulers in all the fantasy world (no, I'm not biased towards Allura at all...)!

Also, let me just mention that her princes are not only ~quite~ attractive on the outside, but goodness gracious they have hearts of GOLD!! *cue the swooning* Actually, the redemption arcs that are woven throughout these stories are AMAZING! Like, there is one of the princes that you hate until you get to the end of his story and then WOW! He's my favorite now because of how he was transformed in his story! :D

And the ladies? Can I please go sit and have tea with these incredible, godly gals for a few decades?!??! (I just want to be a part of the family at this point lol!) They are beautiful inside and out and are honestly great role models.❤

Plus, in addition to the characters, the plot lines are fantastic! I kept reading to find out what would happen next and how my beloved royals would handle it!! Annnddddd Anna did a great job with the different romances! So sweet and amazing and UGH I LOVED EVERY SECOND!

Overall, I couldn't put "When You Found Me" down and binge-read each of these novellas! I can't wait to see where God takes Anna and what she writes in the future!!

P.S. Add "When You Found Me" to your TBR now because you won't want to miss this!
P.P.S. The kingdom is Allura, and that is remarkably similar to alluring....definitely shows how incredibly wonderful and captivating these stories are! ;)

This book is truly a masterpiece. Anna Augustine knows how to tell stories. Her writing style is so incredibly beautiful! Her characters are so real. I love how she had her main male characters Nicholas, Collins, and Benjamin go through hard stuff in their life. And how they reacted, they reacted with such raw emotions. I got to see a vulnerable side of them. She writes Nicholas,Benjamin, and Collins so incredibly well. (Also I love them to absolute bits!🥺❤️❤️) And how she writes the female main characters Della, Sage, and Aurora. They’re incredibly beautiful. They also go through some hard stuff and how they reacted to it, They reacted with such raw emotions.

I think Collins story is my favorite. From not being close to God. And him not really wanting God. Him thinking God could never love him because of what he’s done in the past. To finally forgiving himself and realizing that God does love him and that God has forgiven him. And him wanting and loving God and having a relationship with him again is really good character development. 👏🏻 (but then I don’t know who’s story is my favorite. because I love all their stories😭😭😭 and it’s so hard to choose)I loved every bit of WYFM and I can NOT wait to read It Came Upon A Midnight Clear.

Some of my favorite quotes.

“Della, I am broken.” His voice cracked. And he took a step closer to me. “But when I’m with you, I feel as if that brokenness can be mended.” ~ Nicholas

“Thank you, Sage.” I whispered, my voice husky. “ for not giving up on me. For seeing me through heaven’s eyes.” ~Collins

“I would still choose you every time.” ~ Benjamin

*Sighs dreamily*
Why did this beautiful book have to end? I think I'd be content to live in it's pages forever.
.
I was swept into Allura from page one and stayed fully engrossed in the character's lives until the end. Even now I am wishing there were more pages for me to devour. When You Found Me is an amazing novella collection that is full of Princes that I couldn't help but fall for, (like literally. I fell for all of them.) Princesses that I was able to relate to, fun side characters that are full of personality, sweet, sweet romance that made me swoon, and great faith content. I wanted to reach the end of each story so that the characters could finally fall fully in love with eachother but at the same time I dreaded the inevitable ending. I loved how I even got an arranged marriage story!
.
Back to the princes. 😏 I love them so much! Collins is my favorite...I think. It's so hard to pick a favorite! I loved him and his character growth. He definitely had me cheering for him. But I also love Nicholas and Benjamin. They're all just so amazing!
When You Found Me made me want to go find a prince of my own. Della, Sage, and Aurora were also so full of personality. Each one was unique and fun to follow. Anna did a wonderful job of keeping me invested in their lives.
.
I couldn't put this one down. I basically just sat down and read the entire thing today. Which was a great use of my time! I can't wait to get a paperback and read it again.
.
Anna's writing style is beautiful and captivating. She does an amazing job of keeping her reader totally absorbed in the story. I will be reading everything she writes.
.
You won't want to miss this one!

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding." ~ Proverbs 3:5

"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" ~ Romans 5:8

"God places the lonely in families; he sets the prisoners free and gives them joy. But he makes the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land." ~ Psalm 68:6

"When You Found Me" by Anna Augustine is a beautiful collection of novellas. Each one is intricately woven and written in a way that caresses the reader like a gentle breeze. The stories are horribly tragic and breathtakingly redemptive. The relationships are real, the characters are tangible and their stories are relatable.

However, these amazing qualities are not the winning factor. No, what put this author on my favorites list, is the powerful truths that she placed at the center.

#1 The dreams and desires of our heart are NOT ALWAYS from God. We must be prayerful, CONSTANTLY seeking the Lord's face and will.

#2 No one is too lost for Jesus to find, there is not one person to broken for God to fix, salvation is available for anyone and everyone who will believe.

#3 Love is when you carry your burdens together and display your affection in truth, action and servitude.

I loved this book and HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

These three novellas were fun, unique retellings on familiar biblical stories. Anna's writing style is engaging, and I felt like I was there with the characters.

And the wisdom portrayed through the pages! Deep, profound truths are discovered on every page, that every character experiences. With six characters, you'd think there would be overlap or characters would sound the same, but no - each character has their own voice.

I have to say, while I enjoyed all of the stories, I loved Benjamin and Aurora's story most. Ben's steadfastness and Aurora's determination made for such a sweet story. Marriage of convenience is not my favourite trope, but Anna pulled it off perfectly! Ahh I just love Ben! Where can I get a Ben in real life?!

It was also fun to see the characters growing throughout the series. And I'm part of a book group with Anna that's currently reading WYFM - and I have to say, the additional commentary provided by the characters (looking at you, Collins) through Anna is both hilarious and fits the character so well. It just goes to show how well developed these characters are!

All in all, WYFM was a sweet, lovely read that will delight fans of Melanie Dickerson or Jody Hedlund's YA series.

This was a fun read! I have followed Anna on Instagram for years, and was excited to finally be able to read one of her books.

This book is a collection of novellas that each tells the story of one of three brothers. Because they were all novellas, the stories were a bit faster paced than I expected. I would have loved to have had more time to settle in with each set of characters, but they all fit together and built on one another nicely. I especially loved Benjamin and Aurora's story (I'm a sucker for a good marriage of convenience trope). Anna also did an amazing job creating characters that were real. Even the handsome princes had some flaws, and I really appreciated this.

The world building and overall writing style reminded me a lot of Melanie Dickerson's books. I loved all of the medieval fantasy vibes, and the dresses worn throughout sounded gorgeous. Anna also did a great job in subtly weaving in Christian themes without being overly preachy.

Overall my only complaint is that it was too short! Each story could have been its own book, but since they had to be shorter, Anna did a great job.

What makes a good book? For me, it’s the characters. And Anna Augustine creates amazing ones!

There’s Nicolas and Della: An adorable couple trying to learn to leave their pasts behind.

Collins and Sage: (My Favorite 🤫) A couple of rebels.

Last but not least, Benjamin and Aurora: These two are hands down the best as they are beyond adorable! They are awkward, sweet, and fun to read about!

Anyway, just get a copy of this book. It’s awesome. Well done, Anna Augustine!!!

A really sweet and at times intense novella collection!

The first story, a loose Esther retelling, I didn’t care for as this type of enemies to lovers was my least liked version in that one is snapping at and being generally rude to the other but two pages later is like “I love you and only you!” and I’m just like, “wait, what?” But the other two stories, loose retellings of the Bible stories of Jael and Ruth respectively, were much better written and had more interesting characters, so I enjoyed them much more. I could also tell the author improved as a writer between each story too which helped in the last two’s likability.

The faith content was good without being preachy and I appreciated that the more harsh topics covered (like abuse) were with grace and tact while not glossing over the horribleness of them and the very real physiological impact left behind.

This was good and I’m curious to try more from this author in the future.

When You Found Me: The Princes of Allura Novella Collection by Anna Augustine is a book of three romance novellas about three brothers who are the princes of Allura.

Story 1. Nicholas and Della: Nicholas is the middle brother. He has a haunting memory that is keeping him withdrawn. Della is fiery and speaks her mind and wants to run her father's merchant shop, not marry.
I felt like I had read the story before; it was very familiar.
By the end, I was smiling. The story was nice, and the lesson of letting go of what we want for what God wants was good.
3 stars

Story 2. Collins and Sage: Collins is the youngest brother. He is sent away from the castle because of his actions. Collins goes to work with one of the castle knights at his home. Sage is that knight's sister.
Sage felt much like Della. The romance progressed very quickly.
The story had more surprise in it. The message of God's love being faithful and unconditional was good.
3 stars

Story 3. Benjamin and Aurora: Benjamin is the oldest brother. Benjamin is the Crown Prince. He and Aurora are in the royal families of enemy nations and are set up in an arranged marriage in the name of peace.
I did want to see Benjamin develop in relation to a character flaw of his brought up in the first story with Della, but that didn't happen.
The story was so sweet. I cried through about 3/4 of the story because of the message that a person may feel worthless but God can lead him or her to true love. This one was so sweet.
4 stars

Overall, I want deeper, more unique characters and more character development, but the stories were all sweet, clean, and full of very good messages about God and His love for us.
