Saint’s Passage by Elizabeth Hunter Elemental Covenant series #1. Paranormal mystery. Spin off from other Elemental series. Can be read without starting with the other Elemental series. Carwyn Bryn and Brigid Connor are elemental and altruistic vampires. Having already lived a long life, they now focus on righting wrongs and helping the lost. In this first book of the series, Carwyn and Brigid search for a runaway teen and uncover a potential slavery ring. They will shut it down and hopefully not blow anything up.
Amusing characters and dialog.
🎧 I listened to an audiobook version narrated by Sean William Doyle who performs the full Covenant series and the Legacy series. The Irish accents that are used for Carwyn and Brigid are wonderful and the sarcasm and joking between the two is so entertaining. I enjoyed listening to this book while occasionally following along in the ebook.
Don't hate me. This was a difficult review for me to write. As much as I love Brigid and Carwyn (Building From Ashes is one of my favourite Elemental universe books, and their first kiss was the best one ever), I couldn't get into Saints Passage in the same way. Not because it's a bad book though. It is not a bad book. The problem is all mine. If I'm reading a fantasy novel then I want it to be all about the fantasy world with fantasy world problems. Saints Passage was too much in the real world with real world politics, and to be honest the reason I read is to get away from all that. But then Brigid and Carwyn, bless their cotton socks, got their vampire game on and by the end all was forgiven with a few well aimed fireballs.
I. ADORE. Brigid and Carywn they are one of my all time favourite couples. EVER.
They work so well together. They complement one another and I just find them adorable.
In the elemental world when we first met Carwyn and Brigid ten years have now passed where Brigid is a vampire and Carwyn is her mate. While in the States, visiting a friend and residing in the dancing bear, yes Gavin, Tenzin & Chloe. It is like coming home, meeting old friends and catching up. A phone call comes in that a teenager is missing and Brigid's and Carwyn's skills can help.
Carywn feels that Brigid needs to spice things up. She has done everything she can for Murphy in Dublin and the mundane is coming in. Carwyn suggests the idea to quit and build something new, something different. However first they are off to California to find the missing girl.
When it comes to Ms. Hunter I can only praise her which makes me biased every single time. But her books and her characters are like catnip. The world that has been built in no way bores me and seeing as at times I can have the attention span of a hamster that is a good thing. EH creates magic in my opinion, characters you can't help but love. Excellent writing, a solid plot and most importantly development.
Read Carwyn and Brigid's book and then read this one I don't want to give too much away therefore I shall leave it at that.
DROP EVERYTHING YOU ARE DOING, BUY THIS BOOK, GET COZY AND GET READING. As is typical when I pick up a book by Elizabeth Hunter, all my plans get shot straight to hell because I forget the world exists and I don't move until I have finished the book. It has been some time since we have been able to spend time with our roguishly charming Carwyn and his sassy mate Brigid. Being back in the Elemental work was like having that cozy blanket to wrap yourself in, with the perfect pairing of wine and yummies - it just makes everything all better. Even with the drama, the adventure, and the emotions in this story, you still just KNEW that these 2 characters would not just triumph, but also how we all need that hero. Hunter's passion for intertwining facts, storylines and the paranormal are superior - it keeps you involved, it makes you care, has you rooting, laughing, holding your breath and then saying WHAT DO YOU MEAN I FINISHED IT?!?!?!?!
So, I received this book as an ARC on a Tuesday evening. I was finished with it by Wednesday morning. I love Carwyn and Brigid so much and this is a great next chapter in their story. They are contacted to assist in the search for a teen girl and find themselves taking on a whole operation that involves a lot of shady business.
We get glimpses of how Carwyn and Brigid have grown together. This is 10 years into their relationship and the start of something new for them. We get Carwyn's optimism and wit with Brigid's fiery personality. Their banter is on point. They are just so wonderful.
The story is action-packed and is a quicker read than some of Hunter's other books. Can't wait for the second one to come out this fall!
Note: I would definitely read Building From Ashes first. Don't want to miss all the good stuff.
Ever have that moment when you are reading a new-to-you author and you are 20% into the book and you realize you are about to buy her entire backlist? I had that moment during Saint’s Passage. ***** Rating: 5 stars Steam: ½ flame Genre: Paranormal Romantic Suspense ***** Saint’s Passage is an interesting and original take on vampires. I have never read a book with elemental Vampires before, and I was impressed with the concept and the writing.
Our two MC’s Carwyn ap Bryn (hero, Welsh, 1000+ year old earth element vampire) and Brigid Conner (heroine, new vampire, Irish, fire element vampire, with a terrible backstory) are a mated couple, and seriously the yin to the other’s yang. I am in love with this dynamic duo!
The two of these together are volcanic, witty, sarcastic, and swoon worthy. What I wouldn't give to have a Carwyn in my life. Having never read any other books by Ms. Hunter, I was very worried I might get lost, but that never happened. There was enough explanation and backstory to keep me happily reading and I never felt like I was missing anything. Though tbh, I now want to know everything about everyone!
Carwyn and Brigid are on vacation from Dublin visiting friends when they get a call from a friend of a friend requesting assistance finding a missing young woman. How can they say no to helping find the missing 17-year-old, Lupe?
As they follow the clues and leads, they begin to unravel a much larger mystery. One that will break your heart and boil your blood. Though they were only hired to find Lupe, they slowly discover that there is so much more at stake than just one missing girl. Will they both step up to do what is right?
Saint's Passage had me on the edge of my seat all day. The elemental twist was clever, the dialogue was witty and intriguing, and the characters wormed their way into my heart, even the secondary ones. This is a romantic suspense novel but the sexy times happen off page, so this book is appropriate for most people IMO. Finally, though this is part of a series, it is a complete story.
To put it bluntly, READ THIS BOOK! I LOVED IT and I have already got my BFF reading the very first book Hidden Fire and I will be joining her shortly. Saint’s Passage is a must read and gets all my recommendations!
The premise of this book had me hooked with vampires that have elemenental powers, solving mysteries.
Lupe, an undocumented teen, goes missing. Enter mates Carwyn, vampire and former priest and Brigid a younger badass vampire, who set out to find Lupe and bring her home safe. This mystery ends up going much deeper than one missing girl.
I thought it was a good solid story. What I did find lacking, that is usually one of my favorite parts of Hunter’s books was the character development. I felt like there were too many characters and I really didn’t feel invested in them. I loved the Glimmer Lake series and the first two in the Moonstone Cove series. I wanted to love this one as much. I just wasn’t feeling it.
Reading Saint's passage is a Divine way to Pass the time!
Bravo again Ms Hunter... you really do write the most amazing books. I so lucky to have been able to read an ARC of Saint's Passage.
The this book deals with some of the less pleasant sides of life such as addiction and sexual assault ,and these issues are handled with delicacy and honesty by Ms Hunter. There is no sugar coating and magic happy fixes but neither are these issues or trauma's used for shock value. The story feels believable, the characters responses, the situations they find them selves..all make sense for the story arc and plot.
I absolutely adore these characters, especially Carwyn and it is so nice to see how he and Bridget are growing together. I always have trouble putting a Hunter book down, every page is enjoyable and the pacing is always superb. What a wonderful book of adventure, intrigue, grit and down right Badassness lol
I really loved this book and highly recommend it. Enjoy!
I had forgotten just how great a couple Carwyn & Brigid are with the best relationship. This a new series with them starting out on a new venture where they are called in by an old friend to help find a missing girl. It should be fairly simple given their skills as an ancient Earth vampire & the Head of Security in Ireland with the added bonus of being a volatile Fire vampire. I enjoyed the way the storyline went & that other much loved vampires from the Elemental books were also here. I tried so hard to read this slowly wanting to savour every word as the dialogue was just superb & at times had me actually laughing especially between Carwyn & Brigid. In short I just love love loved it!
I was lucky enough to be able to read this story early and below is my honest review.
It’s always an exquisite experience to get to fall back into a beloved fictional world, and Elizabeth Hunter’s Elemental world is unparalleled. There are so many characters in this series that I have several tied for my number 1 favorite, and I would be remiss if I didn’t confess that Carwyn held one of those. Last time we saw Carwyn and Brigid they were off to have their happily ever after. How often do we get to take a peek at our fave characters years later once they get said HEA? Not often folks, not often at all!
In Saints Passage we get to see what HEA looks like a few years down the road when an ancient immortal and young in years (human and immortal) begin to set a new path ahead. Both are looking for what the right path is in their immortality. One may be more aware of that decision than the other when the story begins but I digress.
As with all E.Hunter books I found myself, (an east coast born and raised that’s never been to the area of the west coast mentioned in the book) transported to the locale of the book. I was mesmerized by the setting and community/lifestyle we get a peek at in the desert. Hunter doesn’t shy away from bringing the wrongs of the world into her story and making your heart ache with the injustices. This story has Brigid questioning right and wrong when it comes to responsibility of immortal and mortals alike. An important question to ask as she makes decisions for her future. I loved the love story, the teamwork and the understanding that this couple has with each other. The part of the story that really impressed me was ’the job’...I’ll leave it at that to keep it as spoiler free as possible. My heart was hammering in my chest and my mind was reeling with the flawless details. Ms. Hunter, if I ever find myself ready to take on such a job I shall use this book as a brilliant step by step guide, though I may need to borrow a certain elemental vampire if the time comes! Absolutely brilliant!! Together Brigid and Carwyn, along with an unexpected ragtag team take it on, and in doing so answer the question I was left with when I finished. Whose job is it to bring not just awareness, but to strive for justice for those who are so blatantly wronged in our world?
Brigid and Carwyn are amongst my favorite couples in the Elemental world. The plots in this series (and spinoffs) usually suck me right in but the hunt for the missing teen failed to pull me in. This book was put down a few times due to lack of tension and I usually gulp these books down in one go! I have hope for future C/B books.
This storyline was a little more real world/serious than the rest of the Elemental Universe, but no matter what, I am always in for reading more of Carwyn and Brigid's adventures. I love seeing their ongoing relationship and love for each other❤️
I was fortunate to receive and ARC of Saints Passage. I devoured it, loved it want to read again! I highly recommend this book! I adore Carwyn and Brigid’s story from Building From Ashes. This book is just as powerful and full of humor, mysteries, and a great plot.Brigid and Carwyn are such an entertaining couple they adore each other so much and the love they have is so powerful. It’s nice to see where they have been over they years. This book was like coming home to your family or best friends and catching up on what’s been going on. Carwyn is so lovable and humble, his humor is the best. Brigid is still a badass and that’s what I adore about her. She is determined and I admire how she is still dealing her issues still. I think this day and age we need a little bit of Carwyns humor and Brigid’s determination to keep going when things get rough. When a young girl, Lupe disappears from a church youth group. Carwyn and Brigid are asked to help in finding Lupe. During this search they realize that there is so much more than just a missing person. Every time they get close to finding her there is a twist and the plot thickens! I love , I mean love how Elizabeth can incorporate sensitive issues that are going on in today’s society. Such as illegal immigrants, addictions, human trafficking. These are such serious topics and she brilliantly incorporated these into the paranormal world, and the plot flowed beautifully.
Reading Saint's Passage felt like coming home to a loving family; remember Gio (swoon) and Gavin (swoon)? I 'dig' vampire stories with hot guys and kick-a$$ women and Ms. Hunter writes the absolute best ones. I've been reading all of her 'elemental' books several times over. Now I can add another book to my re-read list. Carwyn and Brigid were one of my favorite couples. Their interactions always made me laugh. This new book is the beginning of their new adventures after 10 years of love and a (somewhat) mundane life.
However, there is much, much more to this first adventure. Ms. Hunter tackles a horrible problem that has been around for centuries but never got much attention until our last administration finally started to do something about it. (I don't want to go into any details and spoil it for anyone.) I believe EH will be opening a lot of eyes and make a lot of people cry out about the unfairness that exists in today's world. It is heart-wrenching to just read about it.
I'm sorry if I sound a little doom and gloom. Trust me, you do want to read this book because there is also a lot of action. You'll be getting a suspenseful mystery with plenty of twists and turns. Don't miss out on it!
*I was lucky enough to get my hands on an advance copy and voluntarily read and reviewed the book.
There’s nothing better than getting to revisit your favorite fictional world and characters! I absolutely adore Brigid and Carwyn and loved this story! This has a bit of everything..humor, suspense and romance. This story is about a difficult subject, immigration and the imprisonment of immigrants, but Elizabeth Hunter handled the topic beautifully. I absolutely recommend this book! While I recommend the whole Elemental series, this could be read as a stand alone. I was provided with an arc to read and review.
I am already quite invested in the Elemental World’s character journeys and so I expected to enjoy this story about Carwyn and Brigid - and I absolutely did. But more than that, I was reminded that the thing which keeps pulling me back to Elizabeth’s books is not just the mystery elements or the robust character relationships (friendships, romance, rivals etc). It’s the way she gently draws attention to some very poignant modern issues and tackles them with grace and grit. This book gave well thought-out commentary on a modern day horror that my own momma-heart has grieved. It also does a beautiful job of explaining the struggles of addiction, homelessness and also the pervasive goodness in people which allows us all to hold on to hope. The plot tactfully inspires and challenges us to do better. To be better. To allow ourselves to grow even when we’re uncomfortable. I am honoured to have received this copy at no cost in order to give my honest opinion - which is, very simply, that I hope everyone gets a chance to read it. My favourite quote from Ruth Bader Ginsburg is: “Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that makes others want to join you.” I believe this book calls to us all to join in and care enough to do what we can to make a difference in some way. Well done!
Carwyn and Brigid are one of my all time favorite opposites attract couples! The love, humor, and adventure are packed into this mystery just like any of the other amazing books in the Elemental world. When a young woman goes missing they make the most of their connections, skills, and just their general bad ass selves to move mountains and try to save her.
I love a good spin-off! Carwyn was one of my favorite characters from the Elemental Mysteries. It was awesome to get a new adventure from Carwyn and Brigid. Absolutely love the Elemental World. Can wait for more.
Excellent read, Elizabeth Hunter always come through. I already loved Carwyn and Brigid from previous books so this a must read for me. I can't wait to see where there new adventures lead them from here, I'll be there!
When I first learnt that Carwyn would get his own book, I was sceptical of him being the male lead in a paranormal romance book. He appeared as a supporting character in the Elemental Mystery series, which is Giovanni and Beatrice’s story. He is one of Gio’s oldest friends, and at that time he was a priest in the Roman Catholic church. Aside from that he was described as being generally very laid-back, possessing the most garish collection of Hawaian shirts and being addicted to watching American Wrestling. So he seemed much more in the friend zone than a possible lover.
That changed when together with his vampire son he rescued an abused girl that then became part of his son’s family. At this point there was little actual contact between the girl, and later, when Brigid had grown into a young woman, they only saw each other infrequently. To Brigid, Carwyn always seemed larger than life and unattainable. Being plagued by the demons of her past, Brigid fell into drug use, and even though she succeeded in shaking the habit, one relapse was enough to change her life forever. When her foster mother Deirdre found her near death after an accidental overdose, she couldn’t bear the thought of losing Brigid, too, only months after losing her mate of several hundred years, so in a act of desperation she changed Brigid. Only Brigid didn’t take on the element of her sire, but instead woke up as a fire vampie, the most volatile element and the most difficult to control… While helping Brigid to cope with her new reality, Carwyn realizes that he is not as invested in the priesthood as he was for over a thousand years, and that he yearns to have a mate, especially as he sees Brigid blossom… This story is told in Building from Ashes and you should absolutely read it before you embark on Saint’s Passage.
In Saint’s Passage Brigid and Carwyn have been mated for several years, and Brigid is still working as a security expert for Murphy, the vampire in charge of Dublin (and Ireland). Carwyn was never too keen on Brigid spending so much time with Murphy and as Brigid lately hasn’t felt challenged enough in her work for Murphy (things just run so smoothly), Carwyn takes the opportunity to tempt Brigid into embarking on a new adventure with him. Carwyn has been asked by a friend from his priesthood days to help locate a young girl that has gone missing from LA. Nobody believes she just ran away, but what at first seemed a simpled finding and retrival case soon becomes more complicated as it turns out she is not the only young girl that has gone missing…
What I especially love about Carwyn and Brigid is their dynamic, in which Brigid is the tough one, the one who doesn’t want to get emotionally involved with people and invested in politics, and the literal firecracker, whereas Carwyn is the compassionate busybody who wants to just help people (even if it is not strictly his business), but while being nice and caring, he also still manages to appear sexy and manly. So it is no surprise that instead of just retrieving an errand teenager Brigid and Carwyn soon find themselves embroiled with a child-traffcking ring out in the Mojave desert…
Despite the rather dark topics this book touched on, I felt overall it was rather lighter in tone than for instance the Elemental Legacy books (featuring Ben and Tenzin), mostly because of Carwyn’s irrepressible good nature and his irreverent sense of humor! Looking forward to more Carwyn and Brigid adventures! 4 ½ stars.
I’m a big fan of Elizabeth Hunter’s Elemental Mysteries series, and its spin-off, Elemental World. Well, now the spin-off has a spin-off, as beloved characters, Carwyn and Brigid branch off into the Elemental Covenant series, which will follow the couple as they take on new challenges protecting, defending and searching for the lost.
Their first mission brings them to LA to investigate a teenager who has gone missing. Lupe Martinez was a good girl with a big heart, and she vanished into thin air while helping the homeless, so her family priest contacts his old colleague, Carwyn, and his wife, Brigid, to help.
God, I love Carwyn! Huge, hilarious, easy-going and deeply caring, he is a huge highlight of this paranormal world, for me, and I was thrilled to be back with him and his feisty wife. We get to see lots of time with them being together, married, and happy (and still passionately hot for each other!), and as they investigate the missing girl, it brings up questions about their own future and what they want to do with it.
There’s action, intrigue and excitement, and I thought the mystery/suspense storyline was really well done. I was engaged the whole way through as the case of the missing girl turns into something so much bigger than either of them were expecting, and I loved seeing the storyline twist and turn as it built to the exciting climax - the paranormal powers on display making it even more fun.
“Justice,” Carwyn whispered, “doesn’t always mend with mercy. Sometimes it mends with blood.”
We get to check in some characters from earlier in the series – I particularly liked Brigid’s girl time, and the glimpses of Gio and Beatrice, but mostly I just loved being back with Carwyn and Brigid, seeing them so happy together and still so in love, their relationship a great mix of playfulness, passion, respect and deep emotion.
He met her eyes. “You are the greatest gift of my eternity.”
Swoon!
This is a really solid read. There’s a lot of potential with this series and I’m really excited to see where it all goes from here.
3.5 stars.

Elizabeth Hunter - Saint’s Passage (Elemental Covenant Book 1)
It was wonderful to,catch up with Brigid and Carwyn. An most unlikely mating the very old earth vampire has teamed with a younger, feisty take no prisoners fire vampire, Brigid, and somehow they work out and are extremely devoted to each other and to having special missions. They excel at tracking down missing persons and have been called in to help locate a young woman who disappeared while at her volunteer job. Carwyn convinces Brigid to help not just locate the young woman but bust a human trafficking and drug trafficking center. It’s very a very sensitive subject but one that needs to be addressed and handled. The timely story takes place somewhere near the Mexican border. The world building is as always amazing, the author’s research is phenomenal making the story and colorful characters even more realistic. The story will tear at your heart, make you question and embrace the plight of so many during these difficult times. Love the direction that Carwyn convinced Brigid to take, finding and helping the missing(which also get Brigid away from her boss in Dublin making It a win win for Carwyn). An exciting great adventure and beginning of a new series.
I am blown away by the continuous work of Elizabeth Hunter. She has provided us with a wild and crazy ride of a story by way of Carwyn and Brigid. You can just imagine these two standing side by side, one is fiery and the other very tall with Hawaiian shirts.... And tell me that just doesn't bring a smile to your face.
On this particular ride in the Elemental world, we are with Carwyn and Brigid who have become known for finding lost or missing souls. There is definitely some fiery action, as you could imagine, and some heart warming words from a big softie. A twist I don't think you'd see coming, and a community you may not have known existed. Whilst looking for someone, they become involved in a rescue mission, can it be done without them revealing what they really are???
I was immersed in this book from start to finish, and was still thinking about it when it was long over. I hated to come to the end. As usual, the characters and the world were exceptionally well written, and the dialogue hilarious as times. I am very much looking forward to this series of finding people with Carwyn ap Bryn and Brigid. Another dynamic duo you won't be able to get enough of.
I squealed in delight when I found an early reader copy of Saints Passage on my kindle! Elizabeth Hunter takes us back into the lives of some of my favorite characters from the Elemental Series, Carwyn ap Bryn and his immortal mate Brigid in this delightful first installment of the Elemental Covenant series.
Linking up with Carwyn and Brigid feels like coming home after years away. It's a delicious dreamland where all the things that make coming home so perfect, like love, comfort, and acceptance stay the same, but the external influence of the day to day world can still be seen and felt. Carwyn is just as vibrant as I remember him, and Brigid has grown into her immortal self so beautifully. They truly are a perfect match, and Saints Passage brings their immortal talents into the difficult climate of America's immigrant crisis.
I won't spoil the book with details about the mission. I will just say if you are a fan of Ms. hunter's Elemental series, you will find yourself enraptured with this story. If you are new to Ms. Hunter's Elemental world, you can still enjoy this book as a stand alone, but you may find it more enjoyable if you read a bit of the Elemental series first, specifically Building from Ashes, as that's Brigid's origin story. If you enjoy vampires with elemental powers, thrilling adventures, mysteries with a bit of paranormal, or redemption tropes, you will love Saints Passage. There's something for everyone here, you won't be disappointed when you read this incredible book!
If you've read any of my reviews for Elizabeth Hunter's work, you know I am a huge fan. She has a gift with words and storytelling. This latest book, set as a spin off of her Elemental World, is no different.
Carwyn ap Bryn is a 1000 year old Earth vampire. His mate, Brigid Conner in a much younger fire vampire. They have a often hilarious, and occasionally prickly relationship. But the adventures they engage in cause for very exciting reading.
Brigid is bored. She enjoys her job as security for Patrick Murphy in Dublin, but has it left her feeling stale? Carwyn believes so, and he thinks he has the perfect solution for his mate.
Their latest adventure takes them to LA and brings us back in touch with Giovanni and Beatrice. JOY!
This story involves real time, true drama with current events. With the talent she always brings to her books, Hunter weaves the real world and the fictional world effortlessly.
Do not miss this wonderful adventure. I'm so thankful that we get to continue the journey with Carwyn and Brigid.
This book is really refreshing, and it brings in real-life problems in a paranormal world in a worthwhile read way. I couldn't put it down! Lupe is a 17-year-old girl & when she goes missing, no one seems to care besides her family and church. The reason why? She is undocumented.
This is when the elemental vampire couple Brigid & Carwyn come to help. With Brigid's skills with PI skills and her fire elemental combined with Carwyn's Earth elemental and need to do what is right, they quickly realize Lupe's huge heart & goodness is going to put her into some serious danger.
The love, lust, and banter between Brigid & Carwyn quickly make this power couple still your heart.
This book says YA, but I personally think it falls between YA & NA. Give this book a read. You won't regret it.
Carwyn and Brigit are back! Carwyn, the 1000+ year old vampire and his vampire wife Brigit are living life in Dublin. Brigit is head of security for the top vampire there. She's small but smart and deadly. Carwyn is a very large jokester that loves Brigit with his whole being. They end up in LA with their friends Giovanni and Beatrice. When they're hired to find a missing teenage girl, the adventure begins. As they enter a compound in the desert, a bigger problem becomes apparent. Do they do their job and find the girl or do they stop a crime that will ruin the lives of many innocents? This book is so fantastic I couldn't put it down. If you aren't familiar with this couple, this is a great introduction. If you are familiar with them, hurry up and get this book! You'll be so happy you did. I completely enjoyed hanging out with these old friends again. I was given an advance copy of this book so I could give my honest review. As always, I have also pre-ordered a copy.
What a pleasure to be back with Brigid and Carwyn. This was a fun fast paced adventure and what seems to be the start of a new series where we follow the couple as they save people in need. I wanted to give this five stars, but something was missing for me. Maybe it was an element of danger-they are both so powerful, they never seem to really be in peril. Maybe the problems were just too “real” for me. Or maybe I was waiting to be introduced to a new dynamic character. In any case, fans of Hunter’s Elemental series will not be disappointed with this entry into the Elemental World. Brigid and Carwyn’s chemistry and banter is as fresh as ever.
Two Dark Knights... I was fortunate enough to read this book early and here is my honest review. It was nice to be back in the Elemental Vampire World and with characters I know and love. Carwyn has always been one of my favorite characters. Carwyn and Brigid are like Batman, two Dark Knights, in this book. Vigilantes working outside of the law to bring their own form of justice to the world. At least that's what Carwyn really really wants to do. Brigid is a little on the fence. But just like Batman, there is a darker side to this book, so be prepared. It wasn't a complete escape for me. The story was good and the writing, as always, was superb. You could feel the dry desert air and see the amazing night sky filled with stars. As always you are transported to the places Elizabeth is writing about. But Brigid and Carwyn are searching for a lost teenage girl and along the way they find themselves embroiled in another bigger and darker mystery. There might be some triggers for some in this book as well. Rape is mentioned and child trafficking is a big part of the story. Nothing goes into any detail though. It's a serious storyline, but it is not disturbing to read. One thing I love is how Carwyn is adorable in his love for Brigid. He has waited a 1000 years to find his true love and he shows his love for Brigid over and over in this book. Brigid is doing some soul searching also in this book. She has come a long way from Building From Ashes. She is on her way. I agreed with most of their decisions in this book. They are both always trying to do the right thing, but they aren't perfect. This book shines a spotlight on the injustices of the world. It makes you think. We can all get overwhelmed with all that is wrong in this world, but we can find one thing and try to help as best we can. In that small way, we can all be Batman.
