Rumiko Takahashi (高橋留美子) was born in Niigata, Japan. She is not only one of the richest women in Japan but also one of the top paid manga artists. She is also the most successful female comic artist in history. She has been writing manga non-stop for 31 years.

Rumiko Takahashi is one of the wealthiest women in Japan. The manga she creates (and its anime adaptations) are very popular in the United States and Europe where they have been released as both manga and anime in English translation. Her works are relatively famous worldwide, and many of her series were some of the forerunners of early English language manga to be released in the nineties. Takahashi is also the best selling female comics artist in history; well over 100 million copies of her various works have been sold.

Though she was said to occasionally doodle in the margins of her papers while attending Niigata Chūō High School, Takahashi's interest in manga did not come until later. During her college years, she enrolled in Gekiga Sonjuku, a manga school founded by Kazuo Koike, mangaka of Crying Freeman and Lone Wolf and Cub. Under his guidance Rumiko Takahashi began to publish her first doujinshi creations in 1975, such as Bye-Bye Road and Star of Futile Dust. Kozue Koike often urged his students to create well-thought out, interesting characters, and this influence would greatly impact Rumiko Takahashi's works throughout her career.

Career and major works:

Takahashi's professional career began in 1978. Her first published story was Those Selfish Aliens, a comedic science fiction story. During the same year, she published Time Warp Trouble, Shake Your Buddha, and the Golden Gods of Poverty in Shōnen Sunday, which would remain the home to most of her major works for the next twenty years. Later that year, Rumiko attempted her first full-length series, Urusei Yatsura. Though it had a rocky start due to publishing difficulties, Urusei Yatsura would become one of the most beloved anime and manga comedies in Japan.

In 1980, Rumiko Takahashi found her niche and began to publish with regularity. At this time she started her second major series, Maison Ikkoku, in Big Comic Spirits. Written for an older audience, Maison Ikkoku is often considered to be one of the all-time best romance manga. Takahashi managed to work on Maison Ikkoku on and off simultaneously with Urusei Yatsura. She concluded both series in 1987, with Urusei Yatsura ending at 34 volumes, and Maison Ikkoku being 15.

During the 1980s, Takahashi became a prolific writer of short story manga, which is surprising considering the massive lengths of most of her works. Her stories The Laughing Target, Maris the Chojo, and Fire Tripper all were adapted into original video animations (OVAs). In 1984, after the end of Urusei Yatsura and Maison Ikkoku, Takahashi took a different approach to storytelling and began the dark, macabre Mermaid Saga. This series of short segments was published sporadically until 1994, with the final story being Mermaid's Mask. Many fans contend that this work remains unfinished by Takahashi, since the final story does not end on a conclusive note.

Another short work left untouched is One-Pound Gospel, which, like Mermaid Saga, was published erratically. The last story to be drawn was published in 2001, however just recently she wrote one final chapter concluding the series

Later in 1987, Takahashi began her third major series, Ranma ½. Following the late 80s and early 90s trend of shōnen martial arts manga, Ranma ½ features a gender-bending twist. The series continued for nearly a decade until 1996, when it ended at 38 volumes. Ranma ½ is one of Rumiko Takahashi's most popular series with the Western world.

During the later half of the 1990s, Rumiko Takahashi continued with short stories and her installments of Mermaid Saga and One-Pound Gospel until beginning her fourth major work, InuYasha. While Ran

I frickin love this series. Because it is such expert story telling, and such a great mid finale of the plot line. This is essentially when people are gearing up and Narku and the little shit baby of his too. Sesshomaru just pops in and out so randomly its almost funny. And for the love of god why can these two pairings not get together?

Really liked the design for Entei, and Hakudoshi seems like an interesting character. Also can’t wait to see Sesshomaru grow more! He may be one of my favorite characters in the anime.

I luv how especially dark this volume is. there were times in which I had to take a lil break bc it was unexpectedly gorey or intense, lol. the world building is coming along so satisfyingly as the chase for the final shard is at stake. soooo, soooo goood~

also, Sango should have stayed bewitched. it made her more of a competent fighter. (I am a hater)

Inuyasha and Kagome are finally acting a bit more mature which is a relief!
I loved the part in volume 10 normalizing "negative" emotions. Kagome has more insight into her emotions as a high schooler than I ever did at that age!

Volume 28

InuYasha is in serious trouble. Passing through the mountain barrier has rendered him a mere human. Snake blade wielding pretty boy, Jakotsu (finally remembered his name), is slowly, slowly slicing him to pieces. Without his demon strength and speed, or his swords power…or his rat robe armour, he is hanging on through skill alone. Meanwhile Monk and Sango are dealing with the living budha, albeit not well, but well enough to save Inuyasha’s gorgeous head from the snake blade.

Kikioy does what the others cannot and finds a way to help the living budha pass peacefully. With the barrier down, demons explode into the world. Inuyasha fights the band leader once more (and he just fought the snake boy too). Sango and Monk fall into what Naraku was trying to accomplish in the mountain. Though They have yet to figure out what it all means. But time dissolves away…

Volume 29

Escape, escape. The merry band focuses on escape )koga with them). Kikiyo has a mini showdown with Naraku and receives a mortal blow. Is she actually dead? (I doubt it) Inuyasha seems to think so.

Inuyasha can’t accept Kikiyo’s death and goes looking for her. A traveller says he saw her and he takes off, leaving Kagume with Monk, Shippo, Sango, and kirara for protection. They, however, are captured and Kagome comes face to face with another of Naraku’s spawn.

Volume 30

The crew falls into a village of possessed women while looking for a man’s fiancé. Sango falls victim and it’s up to Monk to save her (Inuyasha is busy).

Fire demon horse gets set loose and proceeds to burn down villages. Inuyasha learns the demon horse has chosen Hakudoshi (child spawn’s one half) as its new master. Hakudoshi is taking the heads of demons. Shippo assists one demon (with Sesshomaru’s help) that has been claimed as a victim of Hakudoshi’s head hunt.

This volume was GREAT! There’s always so much going on that I’m never bored but not too much that it’s overwhelming!

The Band Of Seven are defeated at the beginning of this Vizbig!

We get to see Kagome realise her true feelings for a particular character. This was my favourite bit of the manga, as I’m a hopeless romantic! As well as this, we see Sango confirm her feelings for another character.

We see Sesshomaru a little bit. He’s cold, as ever!

Naraku’s Heart that he’s taken out of himself is in the form of a baby to begin with, Hakodoshi. Now Kagome and Inuyasha need to hurry to Inuyasha’s father’s gravesite before Naraku or Hakudoshi get there!!! Why and what does Hakodoshi plan to do??? You’ll need to read to find out...

4 stars.

Naraku is a disgusting, vile thing. Everything about how he got his newest form grossed me out. I feel sad about Kikyo and truly hope that that is not how her story ends. I will Kagome would have more faith in Inuyasha's feelings for her and it always irks me when Inuyasha is painted as the bad guy for caring about Kikyo. I do like that Kagome said feelings like jealously and resentment aren't inherently evil.

I feel for Sango who has feelings for Lord Miroku but despite his feelings for her, he will always be a womanizer... poor thing. I'm curious about the shikon shard in the Borderland. I also didnt realize that almost all of the shikon shards have been found.

5 stars for Rumiko-sensei story work, of course.

1 star for the Viz edition of this volume. Who thought it was a good idea to bind these thick volumes with only a little bit of glue? While I was reading it, the pages just fell apart... I'm pretty mad! Also Viz translation is making me crazy!... Another case: until now Sango has been saying Boomerang Bone all the time, here she starts screaming Hiraikotsu all of the sudden... I would understand the inconsistencies in the original volumes, but these were editions published after Inuyasha manga has ended. You would expect some kind of revision work!...

None amount of care was put in these VizBig editions, by Viz. Extremely disappointing...

Band of the Seven arc is done. Naraku has a new body. The Shikon jewel is almost complete. The evil but also cute baby is here. And Hakudoshi is now wreaking havoc. This installment was a wild ride tbh. And the action never seems to run out and I love that. Still, even though it's fast paced, we still get to have deep and tender moments in between.

Like for example, Sango and Miroku at the cave? InuYasha still feeling responsible for Kikyo (her presence and her death)? Shippo helping that otter and having full trust on InuYasha? I love these moments because they show vulnerability and humanity. I always want more of these, that's for sure.

Exact rating is 4.25 😆

The story of the monk hits harder as an adult, as does Kikyo's reaction to him. It was really touching.

I do wish Jakotsu was treated a little more respectfully, in regards to his orientation. I just left a bad taste in my mouth to read about Inuyasha and Bankotsu calling him a freak. Like, murderer or sadist sure, but freak felt like it was specifically in respect to him liking men. Not the murder, sadism, and misogyny, which also felt like it might be playing into a bad trope about gay men hating women.

Wow. This series is getting darker. Between a monk who failed to attain Buddahood, Naraku's latest plans, and planning a trip between the worlds of the living and dead this series never fails to excite! The search for the final shard has begun. However, there is still light in the darkness. Miroku and Sango confess their feelings.

One of my favorite manga series. Rumiko Takahashi is so talented. Inu Yasha and Ranma 1/2 are by far the best in my opinion. I've read each multiple times and I'm so excited to add these combined reprints to my collection.

This volume was amazing, so much happens. The Band of Seven is defeated, Inuyasha and Kagome and ango and miroku are leaning into their feelings for each other. naraku finally gets rid of his heart and is able to defeat Kikyo. And Sesshomaru actually helps them in bringing a demon back to life using his sword.

What first drew me to this series was the romantic historical aspect. I loved how a modern day girl gets pulled back into the past. I don't know what it is about those stories that attract me so much, maybe it is the difficulty for the girl of fitting in and having to rely on the guy so much to be able to get along in the world.

I also really liked the group aspect to this series and the corresponding relationships that affect each of the characters.

I would really recommend this series to fans of Red River, it has a lot of the same concepts.
