Kyle Keeley and friends are back in Mr. Lemoncello's Library Olympics, the sequel to The Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library. After achieving celebrity status following their victory in Mr. Lemoncello's escape game, all Kyle Keeley and friends would like is for life to get back to normal in Alexandriaville, Ohio. Unfortunately for them, however, kids around the country have taken notice and wish for a chance to compete in the famous library. Game genius Luigi Lemoncello hatches a plan: the first annual Lemoncello's Library Olympics featuring regional teams of four players each. They will compete in the same style games as the original escape for a chance to become national champions. Team Kyle will have a chance to defend their crown as well.
The reason this sequel is even better than the original is because in addition to the fun and games and Lemoncello's fun and games, there is also the plot featuring Charles Chiltington and his mother with their group of library lovers. They believe that the library is abnormal and want nothing more than to wrest control of it away from Lemoncello. Enlisting the help of library Olympian Marjory Muldauer, the Chiltingtons unleash a scheme that could determine the future of the library.
Meanwhile the games are on, with the winners promised a free college education courtesy of Lemoncello. With even more high tech and logical games than the first book, Grabenstein has outdone himself in this ode to libraries and librarians. My kids and I all admit that this is better than the first book and we are eagerly awaiting to see if there is another sequel or maybe even a movie. Highly recommended to library lovers everywhere, 4.5 stars.

When he heard that the library in Alexandriaville had been shut down and then demolished, he decided to donate a brand-new, cutting-edge, transformational library. One that not only had tens of thousands of books, but made going to the library fun …One that had holographic A.I. technology built in …One that makes it easy to find exactly the books you want. One that helps educate the library patrons.
Lemoncello’s library is equipped with the latest AI interactive technology that allows children to interact with scenes from literature, history, or science. For example, in this book, they can actively compete against Hans Brinker in ice skating.
I can imagine versions of these AI interactive games that would allow users to try to find their way out of the cave with Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher, be a time traveler exploring the local area during the most recent ice age or participating in the Boston Tea Party. (I, personally, would use the virtual reality program to take a 20-year nap as Rip Van Winkle.)
In the first book in this series, Lem sponsored an Escape Room contest for 7th graders that required the puzzle solving skills, a natural understanding of game theory, some physical skill, cooperation, and knowledge about literature and library science. The videos of this competition went viral, and now Lemoncello has developed a new competition that is made up of teams from across the United States. The winning team will receive Go to College for Free scholarships.
Here’s something that bugged me. Lemoncello keeps making literary Dad jokes and puns based on libraries and books.
And remember, books are the true breakfast of champions! You may devour them. But please don’t eat them.
There is nothing wrong with that one—except the loud groans you just made. But some of his Dad jokes are not age appropriate for the book’s intended audience. For example, when a holographic cartoon brontosaur named Bronti appears next to him while he is talking to the contestants, Lemoncello makes the following joke:
“Thank you, Brontie,” “By the way, I love your sister Charlotte.”
When I was 11 or 12 this reference would have flown right over my head, and probably would have pooped on that gorgeous pre-teen mane of hair of mine. (I admit when I was 11 or 12, seeing someone get pooped on by flying literary references would have made me laugh—if it was someone else’s head.) I suspect that joke would elicit blank stares rather than laughs from the real-life middle school readers.
The Library Olympics are not the only thing Lemoncello has to worry about. There are book burners, library haters, people who think libraries should only be for books, and vicious mothers. In fact, the moral of the novel is that young readers need to be aware of thought police, censors, and moral crusaders who want to control what people learn or think or can say.
If these forces of evil gain control of Lemoncello’s library, their motto for the library is sure to become SHUSH!
🌟🌟🌟🌟 Stars. Yes, we are all thinking it. This series is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for bookworms. And that’s true—except the title character isn’t a maniac. If SHUSH wins in real life, we lose not just books—but the chance to share what we learn. In this sequel to the popular Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library, Grabenstein brings back the winning team to defend their title in a Library Olympics -- a game that spans the country with teams from every region. Included are puzzles for readers to solve (as in the first book), and a new mystery involving hundreds of missing books from Mr. Lemoncello's library. Avid readers of children's literature will especially enjoy the many books and authors mentioned throughout the chapters. Librarians will also appreciate the Dewey Decimal references.

I would love to have a library or a competition like this in my library! All of the chapters where short and sweet making the entire book entertaining. Kyle Keeley and all of his friends are extremely smart and are able to work together in the end. I can’t wait until libraries are actually this high-tech in real life.

Comments are looked forward to, folks!
Solving puzzles that uncover secret places, thrills me. Thus, the first Luigi Lemoncello novel was made for me! I was rewarded with a mystery-solving core, greatly wanting in crime-oriented adult literature. I insist on owning the collection in hardcovers and awaited a low-priced copy of: “Mr. Lemoncello's Library Olympics”, 2016. It reproduced some key traits but the stellar ingredients were dimmed, enough that I give four stars. Authors aren't in the position to know what makes their best books a hit, so I will elucidate!
You can't repeat the awe of beholding Chris Grabenstein's unbelievable library for the first time. You can bring back the enchantment, which I hope his third story does. The first quest rocked: spend a week-end in a library and using any resource it provides; be first to find a secret way out! Yes! A novel where a secret passageway is the point! I additionally favour a balance of skill sets. Mathematics and sports leave me out. The joy of this series is diversification of intellect; in a person or a team. Everyone shines.
This sequel invites out-of-town children to compete with the stars. Alas, this story was largely about an arrogant visiting girl and a bitter local family. Focusing on a nemesis overshadowed what makes this fictional series magnificent. Excitement was restored for me when Kyle beat a videogame with creative thinking. The arrogant girl, who knew the Dewey decimal system by heart, complained that videogames had nothing to do with libraries. To the contrary, this kind of contest captured what I love about Chris's début! Creative utilization of knowledge, in this case animals; provided Kyle with a winning idea. His teammate tapped resources with startlingly real holographic answers, about folding flight-capable paper airplanes. It is more inclusive and fun to combine people's talents!

LOVE. I can't decide if I love it more than the original or not, but I also really don't care. As a librarian, tech geek, word nerd, and lifelong book-lover, this book has it all for me: books, book references, support of free speech and banned books, technology, Flora and Ulysses, research, and on and on! Great themes for kids, too: friendship, hubris, right vs. wrong, empowerment, teamwork, RETURNING YOUR LIBRARY BOOKS, and on and on. And, of course, crazy Luigi Lemoncello and his constant word play. So much fun.

Chris Grabenstein is currently one of my favourite 9-12 authors. I loved The Island of Dr. Libris and the first book in the Lemoncello series, Escape From Mr. Lemoncello's Library. Mr. Limoncello's Library Olympics is fun, contains puzzles you can solve with the characters, and tackles important book related subjects such as banned books and freedom of speech. I'm excited to see what Grabenstein comes up with next!

Rozpaczam, że to już ostatnia książka z cyklu, która została wydana po polsku. Chętnie przeczytałabym dalsze części, choć nie mam takiego uczucia, że coś zostało nagle przerwane. Na szczęście da się przeczytać tylko te dwie części i mieć uczucie takiej pełności, sytości czy czegoś w tym stylu.
"Olimpiada pana Lemoncella" znów nie do końca mi odpowiadała, bo jednak dwunastolatkowie rozwiązujący tak trudne (w moim odczuciu!) zagadki, to trochę za dużo. Trochę zbyt nierealnie. Ale ten klimat! Jejku, uwielbiam! Ta cudowna biblioteka, te wszystkie książki, tajemnicze zadania, hologramy, pokoje gier, ajjj. Super to jest dla takich dzieciaków albo młodzieży. Przecież jak oni to zaczną czytać, to tak się wciągną, że biblioteki pokochają od razu :)

The whacky Mr Lemoncello returns for more fun and games in this second book in the series. All of my favourite players and villains were back, along with some new ones. In this book, middle grade teams from across the US compete in a series of clever games in the Library Olympics. This book is definitely one for a middle school/primary school reader, but it doesn’t cross over that well for adult readers. Having said that, I enjoyed solving the puzzles along with Kyle and the other players. I loved the theme of banned books and censorship running through this. Chris Grabenstein’s knowledge and love of books shines through with his many intertextual references. I wish these books had been around when I was in primary school. My nine-year-old self would have loved them!

This book is AMAZING! It is a perfect mix of libraries, Olympics, and games. If you like to read about the most amazing library in the world including a museum, electronic learning center, and three stories of BOOKS, I am telling you, YOU HAVE GOT TO READ THIS!!!!

قطعا خود کتاب برای بچههای پرشرو شور و عشق کتاب هم جذابه. البته جلد اولش جذابیت بیشتری داشت

The long-awaited sequel to Escape From Mr. Lemoncello's Library does not disappoint! I must say I enjoyed it even more than the first one! Kyle and his teammates are back to defend their title in the first-ever Library Olympics. This clever book is fast paced & funny. There is perfect amount of mystery, action, references to books. I highly recommend this one!

* i absolutely love this book, and have loved it ever since i was a kid. i love the way the library was designed, and how wacky mr lemoncello is, as well as how the characters are just so loveable
* such an easy read to go back to and reread again
* the challenges and plot twists are also relatable yet bring such a twist to the story that it captivates me every single time
* this book never fails to bring a smile to my face when i read it

This book was amazing! It really spotlights how great library's are and how important it is to read. The author expresses the importance of books in an entertaining way. When this came in the mail today I dove in and I loved it! Just a fun read and a celebration of reading, libraries, imagination, problem-solving and friendship with a message towards the end that fits in organically and is not too didactic! Highly recommended!

Mr. Limoncello on eksentrinen miljonääri, joka on perustanut Alexandriavilleen, Ohioon, modernin kirjaston, josta löytyy vaikka mitä leijuvista hyllytikkaista lähtien. Nyt hra Lemoncello on päättänyt pitää lapsille kirjasto-olympialaiset, joissa pääpalkintona on täysin maksetut yliopisto-opinnot.

Oczywiście i w pierwszym tomie były różne absurdy, ale mam wrażenie, że tutaj jest to bardziej widoczne. Jednak dobrze wpasowuje się to w przygody i zagadki, jakie tutaj znajdziemy.
Powieść bardzo fajnie podejmuje temat zakazanych książek i wolności słowa.
Kiedyś byłam w Planetarium w Łodzi i na kopule oglądałam film o historii lotnictwa. To było wspaniałe trójwymiarowe widowisko. Ta książka mocno mi o tym przypomina, bo niektóre scenki są całkiem podobne.
"Bez ludzi, śmiechu i nauki ten budynek był tylko fantazyjnym grobowcem pełnym zakurzonych książek."
W Polsce nie ukazało się więcej z tej serii, ale właściwie nie ma takiego odczucia, że czegoś brakuje, więc można śmiało czytać tylko te dwie.
Zaraz obok serii Sandersona o Alcatrazie, to kolejna seria dla młodych czytelników, która powinna być w każdej bibliotece. Kiedy je wypożyczysz i przeczytasz, to na pewno wywołają pozytywne uczucia.

This book was given to me as an advanced reader copy at the aasl conference in Ohio. This book seemed more original than the first book in this series. The first book seemed a very updated version of Charlie and the chocolate factory...good but still a knock off. However, this one seemed original in style and content. I like the fact that it answered the what if question of what if others complained about not having a chance to enter the escape of the first book. I loved the fact that it had a variety of book genres associated with the story. Also, the banned books and freedom of speech were great lessons that were not preachily shared. I liked the fact that ala was brought into it so that the real library world was shared. All in all a very solid offering that we very entertaining.

What an awesome book! I'll read anything by Chris Grabenstein, whether it's one of his excellent mysteries for adults or one of his wonderful books for middle-graders like his hilarious Mr. Lemoncello library mysteries.
This book has a large cast of lively and varied characters and features games, many references to real books (including quite a few banned books), and a puzzling mystery plot (with some twists I definitely didn't foresee). It champions "freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and freedom of fun," as Mr. Lemoncello puts it.
This is a book that can be enjoyed by kids and grownups alike, as its humor appeals to all ages. It's the second book in a series, but it stands very well on its own.

I know I get frustrated when someone is like “ oh that is not my age I’m thirty years old and I just read this book and it’s to easy and young for me” well let’s just say I now some ten year olds that love this book!!

Once again, Mr. Lemoncello has introduced readers to puzzles, games, books, and a love of Dewey Decimal System. In this book, readers are also introduced to Banned Books. I really enjoy the clues in this book and how the readers are given a chance to solve the puzzles and riddles for themselves before the answer is solved. Each character has strengths and weaknesses but work together as a team. Differences can be strengths and past mistakes forgiven. The joy of learning is what comes through in this book.

I really like that these books have been centered around a competition and puzzles. I wish there were more events like it in real life because I'd love to go. I also think the library sounds fantastic and enjoyed the technology they contained. I thought this book wasn't quite as good as the first one. Kyle was whiny and not as much of a team player. I understand that he was feeling the pressure to win, but trying to get someone to take his place and hurting his team made me frustrated. Kyle did get better though and the ending was a fun twist.

A curiously, puzzling sequel to the first Mr. Lemoncello series. With relatable new characters and a mysterious plot, middle-grade readers won't want to put it down! Overall 4/5 stars; I hope this book inspires a love for the library in all!

Well, there's 2 things I could rant at...
#1. I am angry at Mr. Lemoncello because he allowed a nit-picking student to sway his (and a top librarian's) judgement on who should receive a certain prize in particular. Obviously, two students arrived at a correct answer, thus they should have split the prize -- or forfeit it mutually, if needed. Regardless, THE SITUATION WASN'T DEALT WITH FAIRLY.
#2. This book has one moment SO SCARY, it was unbelievable. My literature-lovin' heart just about stopped beating when an ACTUAL BOOK-BURNING was announced. I mean FIRE + BOOKS. WHOAAA! Talk about a plot twist/climax. I was squirming in my seat through the whole thing.
Other than that? It's a really fun story. I absolutely love books about... well, books. And the story keeps you on your toes!
