I am not the reader for this. (I will not call it a novel.) There is a toilet full of swords on the cover. Lots and lots of penises in the imaginary coats of arms pictured in the back. It works very hard to be offensive in the manner of an adolescent boy who wants it even though he's not certain what it is.

1. One of my best friends from 8th grade and still today is Black. My husband and I have a family expression derived from her mother who would switch off the television if something racist came on—a movie, a news story. We say: "This is where Isabelle would turn off the television."

I got through the first two sentences of the Preface with four uses of the word "knockers." Here's the first:
As I dictate this to you, I'm lounging in Cabo with my feet on the biggest pair of knockers they've ever seen."

If nothing else, who is the "they" in this sentence?

2. Years ago when the term "ChickLit" got all trendy and cute, I began to refer to "DickLit." This refers to literature and film obsessed with women as body parts, and with violence and power and money. As a term, it is deliberately offensive because what I am terming DickLit is crass, narrow-minded, and [usually white] male misogynistic entitlement. "Offensive"does not begin to cover it.

If you loved Game of Thrones and appreciate vulgar parody, you might read through this with a sickening sort of glee. [I would rather burn it and flush the ashes than read any more.] I will, in fact, give it to someone who loved the series. I know such people. They are not bad people. I was not entertained. Before the first episode was over, I saw the entire stereotypical plot coming at me in great drippy clots: the plucky girl, the woman raped by her husband and soon in league with him—Gone with the Wind anyone? It was sticky with the entire panoply of swords and sorcery clichés.

This is where Isabelle would close the cover on this DickLit.

I thank the publishers for this free copy for my honest review. Writing it was far more fun than reading the book.

Puts the "off" in sophomoric ... and "awful."

In high school -- many years ago, decades even -- I read Bored of the Rings: A Parody of J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, the Lampoon's run at Tolkien. From it, I learned that making up suggestive names for characters (i.e. Dildo instead of Bilbo) was "funny," a technique that I used more than I ought to in the twice-annual humor editions of my college paper, The Gateway. However, in doing so, I also discovered that you need to have jokes in addition (or even instead of!) just making lists of Naughty Names. That was 25 years ago.

Fast forward to this ... effort ... and another generation of student writers is learning that lesson on the fly. In our defense at The Gateway, at least we gave away our "humor." If you laughed at "Dennys Grandslam" or "Jon Dough" in the publisher's description, or just can't get enough of the word "boobs" in print (heheh, I wrote "boobs" heheh, aren't I funny), this might be the book for you. Otherwise, the closest the authors come to a coherent effort at humor is occasionally spoofing George Martin as a rich, lazy, dirty old man.

Crude, dull, offensive, pointless.

Did Not Finish

This is just not for me, but teen me who once loved Harvard Lampoon probably would have loved this. I did enjoy the opening author note's, because the parody is both on point and over the top. I'm positive there's plenty of great moments in this book, but quite a bit of the humor is just potty humor which rarely works for me. Unless I was drunk... but trying to stay drunk and read this entire book might be beyond my reading talents. ;) I'm glad this book exists (even if I don't care to finish it) and I hope it brings joy to Lampooners everywhere. I will say that it's clear that the authors of this have a good handle on the actual GoT characters and plot points, which is nice.

I thought I'd really enjoy this. I like a parody, I've read several and I know the Lampoon basically does parodies and nothing else. I've watched the show, not read the books, but I figured I could follow along.

I could follow along. The problem was that it's not funny, or not what I consider funny. It's all fart jokes and sex jokes and ridiculous pop culture references. That's probably funny to some people - humour is subjective, after all - but it's not to my taste. I hope it reaches enough people who enjoy it to be successful.

Oh, and in case it matters, as far as I can tell it's all based on the TV show, not the actual books. Like I say, I haven't read them, but I know that the series diverged in the last few years, and this seemed very close to the series.

I would try and read a little before buying if I were you, but I hope you enjoy it.

WTF.... DID I JUST READ? This book
was an epic adventure of raunchyness, dark humor, and strategically named characters. This book took me a few days to read because it was so stupidly funny that I was laughing so hard that I was in legit tears during a lot of this book. If you're a Game Of Thrones fan and you're into drak humor, then this is a book for you to read.

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
This is a fun parody of a book series that is so notorious for being unfinished and television series that went off the rails after the plotlines surpassed the material in the currently published books. While I jumped ship from both for different reasons long before the disastrous final season, I still found a lot to laugh about due to the ridiculous plot lines I do remember and the secondhand knowledge I gleaned about the widespread dissatisfaction with season 8. While some of the humor is a bit immature, like fart jokes and whatnot, and the pop culture references are a bit much at times, I did like how it relished in poking fun at the incest of the Lannister family (the Bangsisters! XD) or pointing out how little Bran and especially Rickon contributed to the story or stood out against the much more interesting players, making the twists involving them in the last few seasons unremarkable.
This is a generally fun parody for both the amateur fan and seasoned veteran alike, whether they are disappointed with the ending, despairing at the fact that Winds of Winter is still unreleased, or both.

Lame Of Thrones (2020) by The Harvard Lampoon.
Here is a satirical look at one of the most popular book and television series around today. While others have poked fun at the drama series that features dragons and dungeons and drama in every betrayal and death, only the Harvard Lampoon dares take on the monolith that be Game of Thrones and survive intact.
Slightly deformed clones of all you favorite characters are here as is their, now skewed, dramatic interactions. Westopolis is the northern setting for “The final book in A Song of Hot and Cold.” We pick up the story with the death of Ion Dough who has designs on The Pointy Chair. Then he dies again. And again and again. From there the absurdity grows by leaps and bounds and sometimes it falls off tall walls onto well horned beasts.
This is the imagined final chapter of the R.R. Martin books that somehow brings the entire massive pile of pages to a fitting conclusion while still maintaining the high level of gratuitous soft-core sex and hard-core violence. What more could you ask for?
You might groan or you might shoot milk out your nose, but no matter you are going to find something strangely amusing, or at least strange, on every page.

3.5 stars. Entertaining, but not as much as the other Harvard Lampoon parodies, in my opinion - this one had a lot of repetition and jokes that did not really land as well as in the other books, plus an over-reliance on gratuitous sex and violence, which I know was to poke fun at the source material (both the books and the TV show) but since it was used too much it lost its efficacy. Enjoyable on the whole, though - I liked Malarya (this book's version of Arya) the most - and probably the best part was the ending chapters, where the crown kept passing from character to character. Also, although the title and some of the language is a bit ableist (I chalk that up to ignorance, since I was not aware of using ableist terminology myself until a few years ago), kudos to this entry in mostly steering away from the homophobic, bigoted, etc. jokes that would be sprinkled throughout some of the previous parodies.

This parody of George R. R. Martin's "Game of Thrones" epic fantasy series, will get a laugh or two out of this work by the Harvard Lampoon. It 'wraps up' the individual stories of the main characters in the books. Unfortunately, it seems to have been written at times by schoolboys, who get their jollies
by 'toilet-humor' jokes . Lots of 'pee-pee and poop' references, and tons of sexual inuendos fill the pages. Jon Snow becomes Jon Dough, Arya becomes Malarya, Tyrion becomes Beerion, Cersei and Jaime Lannister become Cervix and Lemme Bangsister, and so on.
Overall, a disappointing effort.

I did not finish this book, but in my defense, it wasn't very good. Bereft of an actual second two books to spoof, the Harvard Lampoon settles for hitting the high plot points of the last few seasons of the series. Fair enough, that's what Benioff and Weiss did, but they forgot the part where spoofs are supposed to be funny. There's precious little wit and none of the charm of Bored of the Rings; if that elder volume is Airplane!, then this is Disaster Movie (or your own choice from the Friedberg/Seltzer toilet). I tapped out after the Battle of the Bastards, after not laughing once and being visibly annoyed at empty bits that went on far too long. At least I already know how it ends.

Out if all the Harvard Lampoon books, this is probably my favorite.
And let me tell you why:

I adore lord of the rings and twilight. However those are finished books and making fun of them got old...

Game of Thrones is fair game. HBO f-ed up so bad on the ending, it was terrible and you know millions of people agree, so why not parody it, it's not like it can get any worse..

It just fit, it seemed right. Season 8 was so darn ridiculous, that this didn't even seem that crazy.

Loved it, these books always make me laugh.😅

The one thing that burns me about this book is the “Also by the Harvard Lampoon” list towards the end. It includes the real titles they’ve done, but also Okay Expectations, Ass Wednesday, Where the Wild Thangs At?, The United States Constitution Strategy Guide (with Cheat Codes), and...and (get this), All of James Patterson’s Books: The Book. Why must they torture me with these fictional titles? It’s just not fair.

A humorous take on the Game of Thrones series. It was a pretty quick read but I can't say I connected with the humor most of the time. I'd be interested in reading other parodies by The Harvard Lampoon because I do like the concept of re-imagining popular series in a comedic way.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I'm a huge fan of both the books and the TV show of Game of Thrones and the different Lampoon's. I found this book hilarious and a refreshing change from all the stuff I normally read. like I said I'm a huge fan of Game of Thrones so the subject matter was dear to my heart and I really enjoyed the levity they brought to the familiar arguments.

The Harvard Lampoon does it again! (Makes me laugh until 3am with a fun parody about a popular series).

Definitely recommend this one if you're ever needing a book to just make you laugh and you're in a silly goofy mood (as a warning tho, lots of dumb jokes in this one, but that’s kind of the point after how stupid Game of Thrones turned out, lol).

This is not the kind of book that I enjoy, but my Millennial niece loved it. She said that it was gripping and suspenseful enough to hold her interest throughout. She liked the character development and would recommend the book to those who like this genre.

As a parody of the HBO finale, this was a great read. The characters are introduced fast, and with a little concentration, the reader is able to decipher the descriptive names. This was a fun, fast read.

I wasn't paying attention when I entered a giveaway for this. I am clearly not someone who can read several genres for academic interest. I read the cover and sent this to recycle. My apologies to the trees.

You have to be a fan of the show to try to appreciate this. I found the humor to be a little too juvenile and felt they were trying to hard. Outside of a few chuckles, it didn't strike me as a good parody. I will say their ending made about as much sense as the show's ending.

The fictional letter from George RR Martin to start the book was actually pretty funny, but unfortunately it stops there. The rest was just a bore to read, the same lame name gags repeated endlessly, nothing else was funny

This books tries really hard to be funny. Occasionally it succeeds. Worth reading if you enjoy parodies, and you've watched the HBO adaptation (this book pretends to be the sequel to the book series that Martin seems incapable of finishing).

I really really loved ASOIAF but HATE GOT. I found this book way more enjoyable than the shows writing. Its absolutely hilarious! Its very obvious that they really cared about the source material and i really appreciate that in a parody.

Excellent book! Exactly the humor that was needed for 2020, and a great end for a series that seems will never get finished!
