Part two in a Christian Regency Romantic Adventure epic serial novel with a supernatural twist
A dire situation
Mr. Solomon Drydale and his team are reeling. After only a single act of mayhem by underworld lord Apothecary Jack, one of their group is down and another is missing.
An urgent plea
Desperate, Sol acts on his forbidden knowledge of an agent for the Crown who is known only to the highest levels of government—le petit prince, master of disguises. He defies his superiors and asks the Prince for help.
A hazardous hunt
Now, the team must learn to work with a new member to save one of their own. But time is running out before Jack finds him and breaks him—and puts all of their lives at risk.
PLEASE NOTE: Like the novels published in Jane Austen’s time, this is a novel in multiple parts. Each volume has a completed story arc, but this is NOT a stand-alone novel and the story continues in volume 3.

Berserker picks up right where Archer leaves off, so make sure that you read book one first, or you’ll be out of the loop. I appreciated jumping right back into the action, as well as the further development of characters we met in book one. There are some surprisingly things about a couple of them that really drew my intrigue. I adore the unfolding of Laura and Sol’s relationship. They are such dear friends, but there are hints of more, and I’m all about a slow burning, friends to more romance.
The plot is pretty much on the go for the book’s entirety, leaving a few loose ends as to be expected with a series like this. However, things do seem to end on a hopeful note, with the characters finding more than surface dealings with each other. They are becoming more like a cohesive team, which I find so endearing. The villain (villains?) of this story are creepy – I can’t decide who is more scary - the mastermind behind the chaos or the one who is prodded and allowed to create the chaos himself. It does make me wonder just how far up the ladder of leadership the nefarious machinations go. There is quite a bit of fighting and violence, and while it’s not gratuitous, I know it’s not every reader’s preference. There is a lot of action and intrigue, so this is not your typical tea, society, and dancing Regency read.
So, still several unanswered questions, still some characters whose fate is in jeopardy, and an overall feeling of mystery surrounding what will happen to this colorful cast next. I’m eager to get my hands on book three, which is on my to-read list for next month.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel; a positive review was not required, and these are my honest thoughts and opinions.
WAIT! If you have not yet read book 1, Archer, please go and read that first since the action and story picks up right where book 1 concluded. This book were full of action, action and more action - the fighting scenes were very well written and I could "see and feel" each punch, kick or knife thrown.
Some questions were answered but more questions where left open as well. I enjoyed getting to know the team better, meeting new members and the revelation of Prince's identity took me by surprise. Jack is a very twisted villain, but the partner was even creepier.
This regency crossed with "marvel" is totally different. If you enjoy traditional regency, this is not it, but if you want regency with a twist not yet seen before, try this series.
Looking forward to the next book in this serial.

This book mainly covers the 24 hours immediately following the end of book 1 - Archer. Like an action film, the author takes us from one perspective to another, watching events unfold all across London and peeling back new layers of intrigue, until everything comes together at a boiling point over the last fourth of the book. Some early portions of the book were more...gradual? But that didn't bother me due to the series being one that is supposed to build with each installment, to draw you into a mission that is on a more realistic timetable than your average fantasy. And the end!! I love how we're left hopeful and yet *still* biting our nails! I cannot wait for book 3 (Aggressor). I'm sure it - like books 1 & 2 - will bring this reader to the edge of her seat.

Berserker by Camille Elliot is the second book in her Lady Wynwood’s Spies serial. In this continuation of the story the team must rescue one of their own from Apothecary Jack. This installment is mainly about that rescue, which is basically the next 24 hours from the first book. There was a lot of action in this story. With very capable heroines. I enjoyed getting to know le petit prince, master of disguises. The only draw-back was that the author kept switching from a person’s first and last names. It made it very confusing to keep up with the many characters. Other than that I really enjoyed the story.
DISCLAIMER: This is a serial novel. Each part has a complete story-line, but is not a stand-alone novel. It ends in a cliffhanger!
I received this e-book from the author for my honest review.
Action fills Book 2 of Camille Elliot's saga of Lady Wynwood's spies. This is a serial collection so must be read in order.
We once again meet the characters from the first book, Archer, and add a couple of new characters. The many talents of the main characters work together to make a wonderful group of spies. But in this book, one of their own has been captured by Gentleman Jack and forced to take the root. Their job is to find Mr. Ackett before Gentleman Jack kills him or he dies from the root.
This book definitely continues the action from book 1 as well as the prequel novella and ratchets it up another notch. Every one of the main characters has a role to play in order to slow down Gentleman Jack and his gang as well as rescue Mr. Ackett. The slowly developing feelings between Mr. Drydale and Lady Wynwood are enjoyable to watch as they step forward then backward. The relationship between Phoebe and Keriah made them seem almost like sisters as they supported one another. Perhaps the best thing about this wonderful story is the Christian thread that winds it way so beautifully throughout the plot. This particular book does include a great deal of violence which is appropriate to the story line but may seem a bit much for some readers.
Looking forward to book 3 in this serial series to see what happens next as the group continues to foil and eliminate Gentleman Jack.
** I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
In Berserker, we are introduced to a few new characters that are related to ones we have already met, and the threads begun in Archer continue here with greater depth and increased backstory that adds nuance to the characters and plot.
I am really liking the continued themes of value and how we determine our worth in a world that tries to put limits on us based on gender, social situation, or family. Phoebe especially must wrestle with these ideas as she has had everything she has known stripped away, leaving her foundering with her place in the world, both because of how she has been treated, and how society views women during this time.
This installment seemed to contain a bit more action, having a battle scene that lasted quite a few pages. Partially occasioned by the storyline from the first book, I expect more still to come as the main characters continue to pursue the villain; the closer they get, the more desperate he becomes and the violence he inflicts increases.
There are also more hints of romance between several of the characters, a change I loved and look forward to reading more of. It certainly increases the stakes as both the men and women fight for a cause greater than themselves, one that is by no means safe, regardless of gender.
As with the former book, this is a serial novel and should be read in order with the others. Had I not read the previous installment, I would certainly have had difficulty understanding what was going on and some of the terminology used, as well as being confused about the characters. But read in order, the story is fascinating with well-developed characters and I cannot wait to read the next part. I highly recommend this novel for older teens and up!
I received a copy of this book from the author but was under no obligation to post a positive review. The opinions expressed are both honest and my own.
Wow! This second book in the series had me on the edge of my seat. Apothecary Jack is truly a mad and ruthless villain. He doesn't care who he hurts and delights in watching people suffer. Ms. Elliott has created a creepy, despicable and dangerous threat. Lady Wynwood, Sol Drydale and their team have their work cut out for them as they try to stop him and his super strength men.
There is enough action, suspense, questions, and chaos in this book that I couldn't put it down. The end of the book is a cliff hanger, so plan on buying the next book too! I can't wait to see how this clever and resourceful ring of spies is going to meet the threat of the Root and its use for defeating anyone who stands in Apothecary Jack's way.
Love, love, LOVE this Regency series with its blend of suspense and supernatural/speculative, strong and smart (but very human) characters (and the women's intelligence doesn't make the men stupid by comparison). Be aware, however, that once you start, you're in for the long haul ... but IMHO, it's a very worthwhile commitment. (I've read up through #5 at this point.) Camille Elliot has become a must-read for me!
Action filled part 2 of this saga. Yes, it builds on the people and discoveries of the 1st volume. But part 2 also adds depth to the characters, reveals more of the actions of the past, and reveals the previously hidden deceit of. The plot moves along nicely. This episode presents a new “situation”, fleshes it out, and resolves it nicely, as it builds onto the previously set foundation. By the end of it, there is a sense of completion for the episode, yet an anticipation is built for wrapping up all the threads anticipated in the final book. On a deeper level, the whole saga is looking at the effect of betrayal and cruelty on various people, and how they have learned to “let go” of their pain and anger. Some have been able to use this energy to serve the “greater good” of the nation. Others, have learned to overcome hatred and jealousy with giving loving support to younger or weaker people to help them escape horrible lives in which they had been trapped. (We see another example of that in this story, with several of the main characters taking part in a rescue of a young woman). Phoebe, our heroine, herself must learn to overcome the betrayal she has experienced. She is given advise from which we can all benefit: “My child, you are letting someone else’s actions infect you.” “You cannot control what he does, but you can control your own behavior....[and] your emotions, also.”
Such words find deep resonance in today’s chaotic world, in which violence is clearly “infecting” one group after another. Great action, well-rounded characters, thought-filled comments helping direct the reader to a better, more positive way to view life’s problems, all wrapped up in a mystery that has yet to be solved! I look forward to the next (final?) book in the series. I was given an early copy of this book. My review is voluntary and reflects my own opinion.

The scenes are abundantly descriptive with colorful details that blend and flow, creating a majestic backdrop so rich and lively it feels as though you're part of the story instead of on the sidelines, feeling everything the characters feel. Amazing job Camille, thanks for sharing this awesome little gem with us.
Berserker by Camille Elliot Lady Wynwood’s Spies Volume Two Thorne Rosmont has been recruited to help find Septimus Ackett. A missing agent and a good friend to Michael. He was used to working solo, but soon found himself surrounded by others. In the end, he was thankful for the team around him. Phoebe has found something she wants to do in her life, besides being her father’s property to do with as he pleases. She wants to be an agent like Solomon Drydale and some of the other agents she recently met. She gets a taste of it as they go to rescue Sep, along with her friend Keriah, Aunt Laura’s coachman, Mr. Havner, the twins...Calvin and Clara. They are all facing an enemy like none has faced before. Not even those who have fought in the war. No, Jack Dix is an evil, demented man who is making monsters. Taking men and giving them the Root, which makes them stronger in so many ways. An incredible series that is continued from one volume to the next. https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
I started this story wanting to find out what happened to Michael - nothing. It bothered me that Phoebe never went to see him and nothing was mentioned about the care being given to him. Did they just lock him in a room and leave him there???
This story is more about Sol and Laura and how they fell into this mess. We need to find Sep and rescue him and see if we can find Mr. Dix (the lunatic at the heart of the evil going on in the city). There's lots of people getting beat up and two past characters end up taking the tainted root and becoming berserkers and our team needs to try and stop them before they can tear up the town and kill innocent people.
An alright story, much the same as book one. This is a clean read without any memorable crudeness like book one.
I was eager to read this book after having finished the first volume, wanting to find out what happened to one specific character. Well, that character is basically out of the action for this entire book :-) I still enjoyed the book, and learning about all the other characters. So now I'm "forced" to read the next one :-) If you like to read about Regency England, love romantic suspense, and don't mind some good spiritual content as well, you will really go for this series.
I was given a ARC for this book with no obligation to write a review. This a great second part to the story. You definitely need to read the first book to understand what is happening in this one. It did not disappoint. I cant wait for the next book to come out to continue the story.
Thank you for a very beautiful and wonderful story this is the first time I have read anything by this this author and I was very impressed with it I would recommend this and I hope to see more
