Please know I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Second I just wanted to stress that I am not a cook, chef, or in any way, shape or form should be left alone in the kitchen. Now, that might seem weird to you; however, I figured since this was a book for beginners, I could give it a whirl and see how 'beginner' it was. It turns out the recipes were pretty easy to make, and I never once feared for my kitchen or home.
Pros: I really enjoyed how easy and minimum the ingredients were. Most of them were easy to get at my local store versus buying ingredients from amazon or tracking things down.
Again as a new cook or rather a bad cook, it is sometimes hard to try out a recipe with tons of ingredients or a lot of steps. I did not run into that problem with this book, and I appreciated it.
I also want to say I only tried three of the recipes (so far), and the three I tried were easy and tasted pretty good. I was actually willing to make it again and maybe become brave enough to share it with friends.
The first recipe I tried was the Breakfast Cookies: which ended up being dairy-free and vegetarian, which was a nice change. These cookies were super easy to make and tasted pretty good. It was a nice break from eggs for breakfast which is what a lot of keto recipes I have found. I had all the ingredients and only had to order pumpkin seeds (which I will admit that I did not use). The thing about these cookies was the heartiness of them (if that is even a word). I ate 2 for breakfast and felt full until lunchtime, which was nice.
The second recipe I tried was Chicken Marsala, now this one had more ingredients, and I had to order something I didn't have like Marsala or xanthan gum... Needless to say, it turned out okay, but it was stressful for a new cook to make, and in hindsight, I should have waited for a little before tackling this one. However, it still turned out edible, and I think with more practice, I will be able to NAIL IT.
Cons:
The only con that I saw with this book is the e-format with recipe books, in general, are tricky. This one was hard because the pictures did not always line up. And it was hard to find a recipe after I had moved on to a different one.
All of that being said, I would recommend this cookbook for both beginners and excellent cooks. I liked the simplicity of it and how the recipes flowed, and the basic ingredients involved. Definitely going to check out other cookbooks by this author.
