I have read all of this authors books, and when she publishes her next series, I will be one of the first buyers.
I read Lynette Noni's other two series before this one, which both happen to be fantasy series that will always rank high on my list of favourite books. Because I read her take on fantasy before this, it was interesting to see her write in real-world settings but with magical aspects.
As someone who lives in Sydney (where this series is set), it is still weird to hear her talk about the landmarks of the city that I grew up around and don't see often in other books.
But enough about the author. While I will always return to these books, and I will most likely reread them enough times that I can memorise every word (which I have done with her other series), they won't be my first choice when faced with a big bookshelf. I found the beginning was a little slow, and I think if I had gotten these books at the same time as other ones, I would have DNF'd them and come back to them when I've finished all the faster-pace books. Thankfully, I am used to slow-ish starts, having been introduced to older books by my parents as a child.
This book is not for people who want to get straight into the action. It takes a while for it to begin, but when it does, I could hardly stop.
Lynette Noni has managed to create a rollercoaster with a pen and a piece of paper. I have found that with everything she has written, she has managed to make you feel everything the characters are experiencing.
I don't want to give anything away, so I won't go into details, but every word made me want to read on. Now that I'm looking back at this review, I'm noticing that I'm contradicting myself a lot, but that's what happens with this duology. It gives you so many mixed emotions and I don't know how to feel about it.
I would recommend this for anyone that is into Sci-Fi. There are no spicy scenes (but enough romance-confusion), which makes it appropriate for pretty much all ages. Probably not for anyone under the age of 10-11, though, because it might be a little confusing or hard to follow. It all depends on your reading age, not your physical age.
