Dark Alpha's Night

Rate this book

Dark Alpha’s Night is a brand new paranormal romance in her Reapers series featuring a brotherhood of elite assassins from New York Times bestselling author Donna Grant.

There is no escaping a Reaper. I am an elite assassin, part of a brotherhood that only answers to Death. And when Death says your time is up, I am coming for you...

I answer to no one but Death. I am impenetrable, impervious, immortal. I exist to do Death's bidding and no one--not Reaper nor human nor Fae--can stand in my way. But I've been called from another realm by a woman so stirring, beautiful, enigmatic, that I can't help but be drawn to her. I shouldn't get involved with this woman. But anyone kidnapped by a Dark Fae needs my protection. Especially when she's hooked me, body and soul...

Daire needs Death to fight…

Geez, wouldn’t it suck to be known as Death? From the little I know, I’m guessing she earned that title, but it can’t be good for your self-esteem. Maybe it helps that she’s strikingly beautiful? But then again, it’s like the forbidden fruit, it’s appealing but you know it’s bad for you. Well, Death, the feared one, isn’t really living up to her name. She’s acting a bit like a scaredy cat at the moment and her poor Reapers are bearing the load.

Poor Reapers? Yeah, that is another one that’s a bit of a laugh. Well, these reapers aren’t the sickle holding ones I once imagined. They’re gorgeous, strong, powerful and in some ways, good. Their job is not an easy one, but as Death’s Enforcers, it’s a necessary evil.

It absolutely cracks me up that I’m talking about characters and stuff that had me shaking in my shoes as a kid, that I can’t help but love as an adult. Maybe I’m in denial, but it’s hard to see them as evil or bad. These characters are quite lovable, fight baddies and struggle with fears, self-worth and emotions like most people. They’re not invincible and they can definitely be hurt.

In Dark Alpha’s Night we’re still on a mission to save death, kill Bran and stop the war that is brewing. A new connection is formed when Ettie, a half-fae, finally finds out what she has been waiting to be ready for. Her father made her aware of her heritage and the evilness of the Fae. He trained Ettie and her sisters to be ready. Ready for what, you ask? Well, that’s the mystery and Daire and his fellow Reapers are here to help her be ready for what’s coming.

Donna Grant has a lot of books that are interconnected. Her ability to make each one enjoyable without having to strictly be read in order is amazing. I came late to the party and while I sometimes wish I knew so-and-so and what they've faced, I still follow along well enough and appreciate it on its own merit.

I really enjoyed Dark Alpha’s Night. The Reapers, while not very long, have plenty of action to keep my attention, and give me a hit of hot and steamy to get my heart pumping. Donna Grant’s books are exactly what I love about paranormal romance.

***Death, toughen up, my pretty. You need to put on your armour and fight the war…and stop hiding from Cael. You're acting like a scaredy-cat.***

4 - "Don’t give up on me…" Stars!

We return to the Reaper series with book five; Dark Alpha’s Night giving us Daire’s story.

He’d always been a bit of a rogue, his rebellious streak creating all sorts of havoc.

So, we are at the point in the series where as a reader I want to see things start moving along with the bigger story arc playing out, Bram is still causing mayhem, especially in relation to Erith and Cael, who are still circling each other like wary tigers, but in general things have sort of ground to a halt a little.

This is what she was meant to do. And Daire was who she was supposed to be with…

It was good to see Daire find his woman in this instalment, and the fact Ettie has two sisters’ gives me hope for a deeper storyline for the O’Byrne family playing out at some point. But I think more questions were added to the list than actually answered, the connection between Ettie and Daire is of the ‘insta’ variety, but all-in-all I enjoyed Dark Alpha’s Night.

"I want to see you beneath the sun and moon, so I can kiss, lick and touch every inch of you…"

I am looking forward to seeing where Donna takes this series next, with Eoghan still lost, but not forgotten, and Death starting the feel the effects of the power Bram has over her, I hope that the story starts picking up again and moving at a more steadier pace in the future novellas.

"I have a bad feeling about whats to come…"

Daire and Ettie are great. I loved how he came in and "saved" her. Her sisters were great in helping their romance along. Daire is just as hot as all his Reaper brothers.

I really need Bran to DIE! Now!

I was looking on Ms. Grant's website, and she has listed books 8 & 9 in this series. What? There are only 7 Reapers. Don't tell me Bran is going to stick around that long

The was a fun and fast paced PNR. The action and adventure picks up right from the first page and although I haven’t read any of the books prior to this one (#5 in this series) I didn’t feel lost while reading. There is a nice short intro to the other side characters, we get a bit of background regarding the villain, Bran and things pretty much take off from there.

Daire is one of the seven Reapers, he works with Death to keep a balance between the Light and Dark Fea. When the Reapers discover Bran has somehow found a way to leach power from Death, herself, and due to some weird loop hole, the Reapers can’t harm Bran, they’re desperate to find allies. Only an outside force (someone that hasn’t joined the Reapers cause) can inflict damage to Bran.

Daire and his friends realize Bran has been tracking down his blood descendants but they don’t know why. When their search leads them to Ireland, Daire is sent to scout and gather information. What he finds is alluring and distracting Ettie.

Ettie and her sisters have been living on the same land that has been passed down from generation to generation for as far back as anyone can remember. Her father and his father (and his father – you get the idea, right?) before him, dedicated their lives and prepared their families for something . . . big. No one ever quiet knew what they were preparing for but Ettie believed her father and never doubted his determination. But it’s been five years since his death and it’s becoming harder and harder to keep her own faith alive.

When Bran and Daire appear, days from each other and with stories of the Fae, Death and a battle against evil, she’s relieved and also conflicted. It’s a lot to take in, especially since Bran wants something from her and the price to fight him off might just get her killed.

What I liked:
Ettie and Daire were amazing together. She was strong and opinionated and he was honest and straightfoward. Bran plays a lot of mind tricks and Ettie held her own (way more than I would have tbh) and even though some of the lies and manipulation did play right into Bran’s hands, she didn’t stay down for long and Daire always had her back – sometimes literally – Lol! This was a quick read and I was sad to see it end. I was just settling in for the long hual when things started to really pick up. It ends on a sort of cliff hanger, only because this is a continuing series.

What I didn't like:
This might not bother others but for me, personally, the secondary story line regarding Death and Cael, stole some of Daire and Ettie’s thunder. Not because they outshined the MCs, but because the jump to their POV’s – that are shrouded in mystery, angst and riddle – felt forced and out of place. Daire and Ettie were amazing but it didn’t help that the limited time we had with them kept getting interrupted by this other side story. A story that will continue later on, probably in a future installment, but didn’t actually go anywhere in this book.

Would I recommend?
Yes, it was a short read but packed with great characters and a fast moving plot.

This is most definitely a series best read in order with lots of characters that actually connect to the authors Dragon King stories. Yes here we get Reapers but it's a book that's all about the Fae and even Death who just happens to be a person and with this instalment some of her secrets just might be coming to light.
So essentially the Reapers work for Death as her executioners and it's their job to make sure that the Fae don't overrun the human realm. They are frantically trying to find the descendants of Bran a former Reaper whose dark powers are growing . Daire tracks down three sisters who are clearly Half-Fae but he's obviously too late as one of them seems to be under Brans spell ! Can Daire convince Ettie that she's in danger ? More to the point though is exactly what does Bran want from Ettie ?
Daire is a character who has been off on an assignment for Death so readers of the Dragon King books probably have wondered exactly who he would be partnered with. Well step forward Ettie and I have to say when it comes to passion and romance this couple don't wait around ! Frankly it's a little too fast for me but works in these books which are slightly shorter. There are huge clues in this book about the overall story arc although a lot less action than in some but nevertheless I did enjoy it and will continue to read this series as things are definitely hotting up.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

DARK ALPHA’S NIGHT is book five in the Reapers series. Although this is a fairly newer series by Donna Grant, the worldbuilding is vast and complex. I wouldn’t suggest reading this series out of order. There’s too much backstory and worldbuilding for any newcomer to just walk in and enjoy. However, this complex storyline is why I continue to return to Grant’s books again and again.

That being said, I do generally enjoy the hero and heroines that Grant comes up with. They are always such steady characters with a whole lot of heart. Although there are their personal obstacles, it doesn’t stand in the way of the politics of the world. So I do think that Grant does a good job of balancing both the external and internal conflicts.

There’s quite a lot of reference to the Dark Kings series so if you haven’t read that series, you’re basically shit out of luck. I think it will be very confusing if you don’t read both series and I think that’s the double-edged sword of this series. Since I read both series, it’s a wonderful experience because the plot becomes so rich. However, if you’re just dabbling in this world, you will definitely miss out on all the details of the plot. So I very strongly urge that you read both series.

The only negative thing about this book I will say is that the beginning does that a bit to warm up. It’s much slower than her previous books so I’m hoping that the pacing gets better for the future books.

I think this is my favorite of the series so far. I loved Daire with Ettie. His was instantly drawn to her. After descriptions of her two sisters being more beautiful, I like that he only saw her. He thought she was the most beautiful woman he has met. What's not to love about that?

Ettie's background made for a fascinating story line. She and her sisters are halflings. Her father has passed down the knowledge of Fae and that they must train for war and be ready.

Since the Reapers and Death can not kill Bran, they need to find descendants of Bran who can. We learn that Ettie and her sisters are descendants of one of Brans children. Just as Daire and the Reapers track them down, so has Bran. Daire must convince the sisters to side with the Reapers against Bran.

We are not at the end yet. Not everything is resolved but we are getting closer. You will want to read this series in order. This is a contented storyline with a lot of the same characters as well as new ones. ARC provided by NetGalley.

Of all the books in this series, this one has had the largest impact on the Dark Kings series. This is Dare's book. Dare, who has had a crush on Rei, the powerful Fae for quite some time. And Rei has a broken heart over a Dragon King. So, this book answers a question about how things would play out with the Kings.

Of all the reapers, I know Dare the best. He's been following Rei, at Death's request, for weeks. He knows her well. And he's patient. It took some time before he ever spoke to her. At various times, Dare helped Rei in battle. He's loyal and kind. I really like Dare and was excited for his story.

Ettie has been preparing for battle her entire life. A battle she has no information about and has only been told to always be ready. She has prepared but she was never ready for Dare. Or Bran. Her and her sisters hold something he wants. Bran tries to romance it away from Ettie. Yeah, that's just gross. Gratefully, Dare steps in to stop that.

I enjoyed these characters and seeing old favorites. I feel like this little family of reapers are old friends. I love checking in with them and their plans to defeat Bran. Oh and Bran, I so don't like him. He needs to die. The reapers have come close but he always seems to slip away.

Like the last book, I felt like this book had a better story line. I enjoyed it a lot. It stands more as it's own story than some of those before it. But I enjoyed the aspects that are important to the Dark Kings series the most.

I continue to read this series for the information on the Dark Kings but I finally want to read it for this series too. Bran needs to end. And I can't wait to see it happen.

Reviewed for Romancing the Readers Blog: https://romancingthereaders.blogspot....

I will admit that this series is newer to me. I didn't start it in the beginning, I know, that was shocking for me, but what can I say, it happens. This is only the second book in a five book series that I've read. I need to make the time to go back and read the first three because I really enjoy them.

I've got to tell you that this is a fun and very fast paced. Which works out good since it's basically a novella. When a book is that little of pages it needs to grab you and keep you in the moment till the end. It also has to feel like a complete story. Nothing worse then it not. With Dark Alpha's Night you get all that. A enjoyable story, great characters, a chuckle or two.

All you want in a story. Or at least that's what I want.

What I enjoyed was the interaction between both Ettie and Daire. They worked. A lot happens in the story but I felt that while it was happening these two stood by each other. At times though I felt the story was slightly busy. It jumps from character to character and if you aren't on top of it you could get slightly lost. Other then that, it worked for me. I'm so glad I read it and will be reading more in this series.

Dark Alpha's Night by Donna Grant is book Five in the "Reaper" series. This is the story of Daire and Ettie ended. This can be a standalone book but I think it as to the enjoyment of the story to read the series.
Daire is a a reaper working with his friends to help keep order and to try to take out the bad guy that has been working against them and hurting others. Daire tries to help Ettie and her sister who are Half Fae and are in dangers.
Overall this was an exciting read that I enjoyed. Ms. Grant books are always ones that I look forward to reading! Great Series!

Daire sure knows how to lay the charm on thick, "his smile was slow, and entirely too sexy. “And you certainly aren’t a fool.” Daire is just adorable at times, "he smoothed her hair back from her face. “I . . . well, I have feelings for you.” I really liked this book, I liked Daire.

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I got a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I own this series in ebook!

The cover is steamy!

This is the first book in the Reapers series that I have read. It is for adults only due to the steamy content. I really love how this world and the Dark Kings are one in the same. I went and bought the whole series of the Reapers, but I still need to collect the Dark Kings. Reading in order is not necessary, but I do suspect that you would enjoy it so much more having read it in order as well as the Dark Kings too!

I learned a whole lot more about the Reapers in this book. I definitely like the group and their camaraderie. I loved reading Daire and Ettie's story! There was tons of mystery and intrigue as well as treachery from Bran. Both Daire and Ettie deserve happiness though they have both had some hard times especially Daire. I’m definitely in for reading the whole series! I can’t wait to read them all!

I highly recommend to any fan of Donna Grant’s work or fae lovers who want a complex world filled with all sorts of paranormal kind! I can’t wait to see what Donna cooks up next!

As I've stated before, this is not a series you want to just jump into having not read any of the previous stories. It is heavily intertwined with the previous stories so it's a good idea to just start from the beginning.

I really enjoyed this one! As per this book is filled with riddles, mysteries and untold truths. The suspense is almost unbearable because you know it's not really going to be resolved in this story. You get drip fed minute pieces of the puzzle.. enough to keep you interested, engaged but not significant enough for you to have a clue where the author is taking this plot in the long run. It's fucking smart. The writting is so tightly woven and seamlessly connected to previous stories that you forget it's separate books. The characters are great additions! Extremely likeable with substance. Ettie and Daire are just yummy together! Great chemistry throughout making for some real steamy encounters. It's creative and something different from the usual pnr romance. Another fabulous read!.

I can't wait for Caels story! And death... she got me all kinds of curious. But I'm betting he'll be left still the end just to tease us.

I kindly received this ARC from the publisher via netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

3.5 Stars, I wasn't too sure what to expect going into an already established series, I found it was an ok read for me. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I had read the previous books and even that the series connected to another and that to another and so on. I have no time to be able to go and read all her work. This was a good though, this is part of her Reaper/ Dragon King series, I did get confused at times but I found I plotted along. Ettie was pretty cool chick and I really liked Daire. The romance was fast and hot, I enjoyed it for what it was. I liked Donna's writing style.

The fifth exciting installment in Donna Grant’s Reaper series!

Dark Alpha’s Night is the fifth exciting installment in Donna Grant’s Reaper series. This series shares a timeline and multiple characters with her Dark Kings’ series. I do not recommend it, but if you absolutely insist, you could read this as a stand alone as the romance is self-contained within this tale. That said, there is an overall series’ arc along with tie-ins to the author’s Dark Kings’ series which add together to make the series best read both in-order and in-tandem with the Dark Kings’ series. I am inhaling both series and, trust me, the way Donna interweaves the two makes for a richer reading experience.

IF you are new to this series and the Dark Kings, just know that this series is about Reapers, who are elite fae assassins who answer to Death, a mysterious and beautiful female. The Reapers are on a series-long mission to save Death who is in dire straits, stop the traitorous Bran, and stop an upcoming war. Fans of the series will enjoy catching up with previous favorites as all the Reapers make appearances in this story. Readers may also expect many long-held secrets to be revealed.

As this tale opens, the Reapers are desperately searching for Bran’s descendants who may very well hold the key as to why Bran’s dark powers are growing so rapidly while Death’s are mysteriously ebbing threatening her very existence. Emphasizing the importance of this mission, Reaper Daire has been pulled from his assignment shadowing Rhi. He finds three half-fae sisters on a family farm on the outskirts of Killarney, Ireland. Unfortunately, one - Ettie - appears to already be under Bran’s influence. Can Daire convince Ettie that she’s in danger and that she should not follow Bran’s bidding?

Ettie is a big sister who has raised her two uniquely-talented younger sisters, Carrie and Jamie. Even though Carrie and Jamie are now full-grown, Ettie still feels responsible for them. Their father trained all three sisters to be ready to protect themselves and combat the evil fae, but, he failed to explain why that may occur making the whole scenario seem to be nothing more than a father’s fanciful fantasy. Ettie’s family situation makes things very interesting for the Reapers as they must discover and then cope with the diverse needs of all three women instead of just one. Can Daire and his fellow Reapers figure out why the sisters are of value to Bran before it’s too late?

Daire’s and Ettie’s chemistry is off-the-charts hot and steamy! I love that Daire has found his mate and how they interact. She’s definitely no wallflower! Daire originally captured my heart as he stealthily followed Rhi in the previous books. He certainly has earned his HEA – but it won’t be easy. Donna makes him work for it!

Villainous Bran is prominently featured in this book as he shows off his acting skills portraying someone he is not. He certainly demonstrates that he feels no remorse ruthlessly utilizing innocents to further his wicked revengeful plot against Death and the Reapers. In the past, I felt some sympathy for the way Bran and his love was treated. No more - as it’s blatantly obvious that everyone and everything is expendable to Bran.

Following please find a few of my favorite lines from Dark Alpha’s Night:

Ettie knew the best thing to do would be to put some distance between her and Daire. Being so close to him was making her feel… all sorts of wanton, lustful things.
---
“Don’t you want to experience the world? Find a man? Have sex? Because, I really, really want to have sex.”
---
“I’d be a fool to turn you away.”
His smile was slow, and entirely too sexy. “And you certainly aren’t a fool.”

This tale is not quite as action-packed as the previous books have been, but, at the same time, there seems to be more disclosures related to the series’ arc which just has to be reaching a crisis point. I sure hope that Donna moves the plot quickly from here as it’s painful to watch Death as her powers wane. Next up is Dark Alpha’s Hunger releasing August, 2018.

When life gets stressful, I tend to escape into books. I have enjoyed the Reaper series, so was exceedingly glad I had a new one to take my mind off some things. Except in this instance, I had a hard time getting into the book. This usually isn’t a problem for me no matter how discombobulated I am, so although I’m a little worried this may be an “It’s me, not the book” situation, I’m not so sure that’s the case. A word of caution, this is a series you need to read in order or you’ll be lost.

Things are looking rather bleak for the Reapers. Death is fading away while Bran is gaining strength and they have no idea how to stop him. For the first time, they are wondering if they can actually win, Daire especially, but Cael, the Reaper’s leader, has a plan.

Ettie is the oldest of three sisters. She sacrificed everything to raise them when they lost their father. He was a bit odd, but he taught his daughters to fight the fae and told them to “be ready” although they were never sure why. This is fixing to change and not in a good way.

I really liked Ettie and her sisters, although I thought she had spoiled them a bit. Ettie was pretty badass, had a strong personality, and was willing to do the hard things when it came to keeping her little family intact. Approached by Bran first, she let him in just a bit, falling for his tricks, but she knew something wasn’t right so he didn’t get too far. What threw me was that when Daire showed up, she just believed him. I felt this was a situation where caution should have had her questioning everything. Of course, Daire’s side was the right side, but still.

I also liked Daire but for some reason, I didn’t love him. He was everything he was supposed to be: hot, dominant, caring, sexy…but, and I can’t really put my finger on why he just didn’t melt my butter. And he really should have, it was weird.

The good news is we do get a bit of insight as to why Death has been acting like a sheep waiting for slaughter lately. She has a history and parts of it are not good. I still don’t get why she’s not being as proactive in fighting Bran as I think she should be. I’m also intrigued as to who Ettie is to Death and what the connection is. It will be interesting to see this play out.

Dark Alpha’s Night had some sweet parts, it had some serious parts and it had some sexy parts. I wasn’t as wowed as I wanted to be, but I did like that the overall plot line got some momentum here and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Rating: 3.5 Good But...Stars

Dark Alpha’s Night by Donna Grant
A Reaper Novel #5

I was lucky enough to get in on this spin-off series from the beginning BUT sometimes wish that I had started from the beginning of this wonderfully crafted world filled with stories of warriors, dragons, fae, halflings and others…it is enchanting and enthralling and makes me eager to read whatever comes next…even when I am not 100% sure what the storyline was before the book I am currently reading. I will sometimes search out reviews of books that precede a book I am getting ready to read so that I have some idea of what has preceded…that said…

I loved this book!
I am engaged in the series
I want to read the story of each and every Reaper
I am eager to find out if Death/War/Erith and Cael with ever get their HEA
I really REALLY want to get the entire series at some point in time and read them from beginning to end
This series would make a WONDERFUL TV series ;)

Okay…the story…

It is Daire’s turn to find true love and he finds it with a Halfling, Ettie, who has been raised with her sisters “to be ready” – for what – they have not a clue. So they have trained in the art of war and waited and now it is time for them to become embroiled in the war brewing between Bran and Erith…

So much happened in a novella length story and all of it was good. Daire and Ettie ended up together. Bran was thwarted again. Insights were given into how Bran is increasing his power and Death is losing hers. We learned more about Death and a bit more about her time before she took on the moniker Death. There was mention of characters in other series and what I found most intriguing was the simple way the previous characters’ stories were shared so that a newbie to the series would not be totally lost.

Did I like this story? Yes
Do I recommend it? Yes
Will I read more by this author? Definitely

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Dark Alpha's Night features Ettie & Daire. Daire used to be the one following Rhi, but now that is no longer needed he is assigned to watch a half fae named Ettie. She has two siblings, who were also half fae (the family was visited by multiple light fae or just the same fae three times?)

There is a connection between Ettie and Bran which has the Reapers trying to figure out Bran's motives. Daire connects with Ettie and together they come up with ways to set Bran up. For some reason Bran is determined to take everything Ettie and her sisters have. She just needs to sign it over. This confuses the Reapers wondering just what it is he is looking for.

I was really nervous when Ettie confronts Bran thinking she has the support of the Reapers, but none appear to aid her. It was heartbreaking until she finally learned the truth. But now they know another thing that Bran can do, so the Reapers will be prepared.

But still the question remains, just what is Bran looking for? Also, despite Death's disappearing act, she makes an appearance to acquire just what Bran is looking for.

I was concerned about the relationship between Ettie and Daire. I thought he had a thing for Rhi for awhile, so it surprised me when he so willingly took this new assignment. I'm not reading these in order with the Dark Kings, so some things kind of lose me and I have to remember if what they are talking about happened in a Dark King book. But I was pleased with the strength that Ettie showed and how she proved to be a match for Daire.

While I did enjoy this book, it's probably my least favorite of this series so far. Maybe it's because of the length, but I just think things moved too fast here. As for the main characters, I didn't dislike them, but I also didn't love them. I was simply content with them I guess. I'm also not happy about the Reapers wanting to pull Rhi into their fight. Like she doesn't already have more than enough to deal with.

Daire is back with his fellow Reapers discussing things when he is summoned by Death. Erith gives him the choice to either continue following Rhi, or go back to his brothers for their war. He chose the latter thinking that he would be actually out there fighting...not searching thru piles of information trying to locate some of Bran's descendants. Eventually he comes to a town that has suspiciously no other fae there. That's when he finds Ettie...and can't take his eyes off her.

Ettie is one of three sisters who have been raised their whole life "to be prepared". For what, they have no idea. They learned how to fight with all sorts of weapons and do know of their heritage. But Ettie is the only who really hung onto what their father always told them and believed him. The other two can't wait to leave their little cottage. Sadly for Ettie, no male has ever really showed interest in her when her two sisters are such stunners. So when a hot guy starts talking to her at a bar, she eats up everything he says and they're quickly going out.

What Ettie doesn't know is that Bran targeted her for a reason. >>Side note...totally gross how he was with his own descendant. I don't care how diluted it is.<< Bran is searching for something and he's sure that's it's somewhere on Ettie's land and he'll do whatever his dark self has to to get what he wants.

Daire overhears her sisters talking about how much they don't like or trust Bran, and he decides to take the risk and reveal himself to them and explain what they have found themselves in the middle of. From there things move fast. When he finally meets Ettie face to face, their attraction is immediate. Though she doesn't want to believe what he tells her, the truth is right there and she's a very important piece.

Bran enacts his schemes and we eventually find out what he's looking for. Something very cool, and fortunately safe from him. The Reapers fail again to kill him though and things are even worse than they know. They have no idea what is happening with Erith, and that's something devastating.

We do find out how Bran is stealing her magic, and honestly, I think it's kind of silly. But whatever. We at least know now. Erith has sealed off her realm and is now ignoring Cael for fear of him seeing her as she deteriorates. I really liked learning about her past and what she can do if she were to fight. But I hope this self-imposed isolation ends quick, because no good can come from it.

There was also no progress with Eoghan. And I'm dying to know where he is and how he'll get out.

The only reasons why I rated this five stars because of the Reaper in this book. And how the story unfolds.

As the fifth book of the Reapers their is slowing showing in the world where the Kings and the Warriors reside. For the Fae, they maybe a legend, a myth, and something to scare their children, but for the people that are caught in the coming war...the Reapers are formidable allies.

From the last book of Heat, Cael, has extended a hand to the Kings, from there, Daire, well...sorry nope, you need to read the book. The revelations and the action will really shock you or you will forever curse the villain in this series.

What I love about the Dark Series, is its unshakable value of family. From the Dark Sword, to the Warriors, till the Kings...and now the Reapers, the value of each family member, may it be blood or not, the core value is there.

We are a family, not matter how we came to be, we will do this together...for you are not alone.

Ms. Donna's books make us realize that our blood family, may hurt us, but there are connections that are far more deeper than blood.

In every page, in every paragraph, and in every word, we are given a chance to see that love can truly come in may forms. The greatest love might be finding your true love, but nothing beats a love of a peoples acceptance in making you a part of a family.

I look forward to reading the other books in the Dark series.

FTC DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE PUBLISHER THROUGH NET GALLEY. I VOLUNTARILY OFFER MY HONEST REVIEW OF THE BOOK, THOUGH IT IS NOT EXPECTED OF ME! RECEIPT OF THIS BOOK IN THIS MANNER DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION OF THE BOOK OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW!

I don't know what it is about the Reapers vs. Dark Kings books, but I always seem to prefer the Reapers over the Dark Kings, and this book was no exception. The story had a bit of Insta-Love going for it, which is not a trope I enjoy, so the book lost a star for that. I liked that Ettie was both plain and an exceptional warrior. I think it made her more realistic for me. Daire was a good Reaper, but we just don't get too in depth with him, which didn't make him easy to connect with. I liked that this was a shorter jaunt that referenced the Dark Kings series, but wasn't too confusing to read. I really need to make time to read the previous installments in this series!

Dark Alpha's Night is an exciting addition to the Reaper series. Bran is on his quest to kill Death and exact his revenge. He may be all charm to get what he wants but he's a ruthless killer. He's met his match when he tries to make Ettie give up her family's land to save her sisters. She will fight to protect those she loves. I enjoyed seeing her realize her powers. When she meets the Reaper Daire, her world changes. Their chemistry is powerful and left them both shocked. I loved their romantic relationship, but I wondered if they had a chance. This story is an exciting paranormal story. The characters are well written and larger than life. The setting adds to the suspenseful atmosphere. Donna Grant kept me on the edge of my seat. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Ettie knows about the fae, she has been training to fight since she was a child. When Daire, a Reaper who works for Death, shows up he knows he needs to convince her that she is in danger. Can Ettie trust Daire or is he leading her to something worse?

Daire was an intriguing character and I liked Ettie a lot. She is a warrior and protective of her sisters. This is a quick read that catches you off guard and I definitely need to go back and start at the beginning. Fascinating concept.

OMG! Is anyone ever going to kill Bran? I’m pretty sick of him. I was hoping that this time it would happen but no such luck. And when are they going to find Eoghan, the Reaper that got taken in a whirlwind of Bran’s magic

Anyway, this was about Ettie, Carrie and Jamie who live in Killarney, the ONLY place in Ireland where no Fae will come, except the Reapers: Daire, Cael, Baylon, Talin, Fintan, Kyran, and the only female Reaper Neve, and horrible Bran. The two each try to get the sisters to side with each of them.

And it’s about a Black Sword which everyone thought was just a legend, until it appeared in Ettie’s hand for a few seconds, before it disappeared again.

There was explicit sex in this book but you can easily skip over it. And the F-bomb was not used at all. It’s all about “ feck and fecking” now. Which, in my opinion, is a totally stupid word. BUT it keeps the non-swearers happy, so there is that.

This is out on audible but I couldn't see spending $9.26 on 158 pages read by a narrator that I think sucks. Again, my opinion.

Daire & Ettie's Story.

Further progression in the overall Bran story arc. We learn how he's stealing Death's magic and that he fathered by fae & half-fae children.

One of those half-fae is Ettie. Like the others she is unaware of any powers until they are needed/necessary for the battle.

Kinda disappointed by Death in this one.

M/F Paranormal
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

Hmm, this is the first book that I've read in the series and I would suggest that people read the previous books because I definitely felt that I was missing nuances within the story.

Daire and Ettie are a strange couple. Daire is on a mission from death and when they figure out what their rival is searching for, the mission changes drastically. Daire has seen a lot of his fellow Reapers find love and settle down. It's a little disheartening because he sees what he could have.

Ettie and her sisters are always prepared, but since they never really know what for, their background is very mysterious. I liked how protective she was of her family, but also thought that when she was given the chance to have happiness for herself she was almost too trusting.

Daire and Ettie are a strange couple. Their relationship is a whirlwind and yet, it somehow kind of works with how the story flows. It's a shorter story with a lot going on. Overall, it was a good story with a good love connection.

The Reapers are on a race to find the Half-Fae before their enemy finds them in this thrilling action packed Reaper story.
Donna Grant keeps her Dark World full of exciting and surprising twists, lots of adrenaline pumping action, thrilling suspense and fascinating characters and the Reapers are an exhilarating part of that world that brings more of the Dark World to life ensuring that readers can never get enough. Every time I read another book in this electrifying world I become a part of it and have a grand adventure that provides lots of fantasy material for sexy hunks and dreamy romance.

Dark Alpha’s Night is a brilliant story in the Reaper series, it is full of surprises and keeps readers on the edge of their seat in anticipation while providing readers with an excellent romance that has fiery sparks flying in every direction along with some emotional turbulence that adds depth to the story. I was completely caught up in the fast paced and suspenseful plot from the very beginning and couldn’t put it down until I had read every last detail. I sure can’t wait to visit the Dark World again when Torched releases in May.
