With the end of the school festival, Nanami and Ichijo decide to finally make the leap. After a lovely date and general floating around Cloud Nine, Nanami gets a mysterious letter. And then, well, lord have mercy on a girl from down in the boondocks… (or the Japanese equivalent)

By this point it is ridiculous to keep pointing it out, but this series is really well written and it shines in both its characters and the way it tells a story that has been erecting its foundations on the ground laid by many other shojo. It’s better than its genre trappings.

The aftermath of the festival, where Nanami and Ichijo are both trying to confess to one another, is a great example of how such a simple scene can turn into a series of strong moments for every main character in the series.

If there’s a weak spot here it’s actually the date proper, which is a fairly standard visit to a fairly standard location. It’s not bad, but honestly lacks the punch it should for such a momentous event.

Still, that mysterious letter kicks the story off in a whole other direction that I kind of loved. It once more takes something that’s a very basic concept, yet runs with it in some surprising (and, admittedly, a little implausible at times) directions.

This entire plot line turns into a real speed bump for the course of true love, but I think the way Nanami handles herself and the writing handles her (I love how she’s no pushover) is spot-on. She’s a low-key great heroine; simple in her way, yet effective. Her basic niceness doesn’t mean she’s naive, it just means she’s willing to try and understand, which is more than some can say, as it turns out.

No, it turns out that Ichijo is the problem here as he ends up not standing up for himself, or Nanami, simply because he’s both far too dependent on the hand that feeds and has a very obvious weak point in the form of his mother, which some people are only too happy to use to apply pressure.

Look, all I can say about this volume is that it has moments for everybody. The dog, Kon, a really good part where Chihiro acknowledges how perceptions can make life hard. And Ieiri ends up being a voice of comfort and wisdom, which is quite the turn - it’s another testament to the writing that he still has lots to do even after his status as a relationship obstacle fades away.

4 stars - an okay date and some oddly misplaced plot swerves that are a bit over the top for the norm keep it from perfection, but this is a shojo that is absolutely worth the time and effort to read. It’s a very strong telling of a story that’s been done to death.

I hate naggy old rich grandmas 🙄, but everything else was so so so cute! I’m loving the characters and wish the series was longer tbh, but a lot happens in each volume so I’m excited to see where this goes. What’s happening at the moment reminds me of Meteor Garden, so maybe that’s why I’m a fan? Idk

This, right here, es la razón por la que no voy a leer los últimos dos volúmenes. Chihiro te amo demasiado como para seguir sufriendo porque no sos el male lead.

UGHHHHHH!!!

This is the kind of volume you want to throw because the ending is just that frustrating! *laugh cries*

Seriously, this volume was SOOOOOO good, but THE END!! I AM SO UNHAPPY WITH IT!!! UGHHHHHH!

Outside of that ending, this volume was wonderful! The opening chapter is everything I've been looking for and really loved how Rei's friends gave him space (especially Ieiri)! It's really wonderful seeing how close they are to one another and not feeling slighted because of Rei's feelings for Midori or wanting to spend time with her. It was so so so good!

It's just when that one character showed up and then another character's actions changed…BIG sigh.

I'm sadly knocking one star just because of how upset I am emotionally at the turn of events. LOL! Maybe that's shallow, but this volume was absolute perfection before that one moment.

I'm unsure of what is going to happen next but I'm really hoping things turn around. How can this volume have everything I wanted and then have an ending with something I DEEPLY don't want?! *cries*

FINALLY, they confessed their feelings to each other! Rei and Midori are now dating and go on their first super cute date to the zoo... But Rei's grandmother invites Midori to a birthday celebration. Rei's family is in charge of a huge corporation, and his grandmother wants to make sure Rei doesn't stick himself with a person who can't bring more influence to the table. Will Rei end things quickly or will he stay by Midori's side?....

I'm happy they admitted their feelings to the other and are dating. I hope they'll be able to figure things out and stay together.

So many highs and lows….we finally get the confessions, a super cute zoo date with matching souvenirs, and even a forehead kiss!! ╰(*´︶`*)╯♡ but then the expected drama of Rei’s uppity family, and especially his bitch of a grandmother, result in this volume ending on yet another cliffhanger (T ^ T) I was hoping Yuki’s role in the love triangle had ended, but I guess not…and did Rei really let his grandmother kick Midori out like that?? We are in a fight, Rei.

Also - that one comment Midori’s mom said to Rei, about Midori being ‘a few cards shy of a deck’…like wtf mom..??? That was so uncalled for lol.

It must be hard, but I think it defeats the purpose when you can’t be with the one you love and end us hurting them instead 💔

I’m happy that my library got in the next volume so that I could continue on after the last cliffhanger!

This volume was a bit slower in the beginning as there wasn’t much going on. The declaration of liking one another was nice to see after waiting a couple volumes for it. I’m glad that they got to hang out together away from their friends. They also picked the zoo and I mean who wouldn’t have a good time there? The little animal drawings were adorable. 😍

I’m not going to lie, the slowness was kind of killing it for me but then by 50% this volume did a 180! It was back on the drama hype train and I was here for it. Some grandmas don’t play and this was another case of that when it came to Rei’s. I am very curious about what will happen next because it left off with some tension and sad moments for Midori. Why is love so hard?

Overall, this was a good volume and I will happily be waiting for the next!

Yesssss volume 5 is giving everything I wanted from this novel. Romance, stakes, drama it's giving it all! I didn't know how we were going to have a love triangle, or I guess square at this point with how the plot was moving, but now I DO see it. The family drama, the future graveling, the exploring of other love interests, I LOVE IT. It's all a lot more fast paced too which I am very thankful for. The pace before was fine, but it's a nice breath of fresh air to go at a higher pace.

Sigh. Family drama. Lack of communication by the MC H to the MC h, him making the decisions for both of them. Booooo!!!! 3, disappointed, stars.

I rate this 3.25 stars because I’m so tired of the my-son/grandson-is-too-rich-and-important-to-marry-a-“normal girl”-trope, it’s everywhere!😡😑 Which is one of the reasons why the web comic and manhwa A Business Proposal is so refreshing and I love it! In that story, the male love interest only has a grandpa and he is all for both of the main characters to marry each other, while female lead wants to wait a bit. This is my least favourite volume in this series so far, because of that annoying same old storyline. I rated it a little extra because their date was cute. Although I do wonder, seeing what Midori wore to their first date, that do kids not dress up for dates anymore? Is it just in Japan? Is it just in manga? I’m very confused and disappointed since I love to wear pretty dresses. Even the dress that was given to her for the party wasn’t as fancy as Midori thought it was.

There’s a page where the grandma says that to marry an Ichijo, she has to have certain qualifications, ugh. Lady, you do realize that people aren’t born with these qualifications and that you’re talking to a teenager! No teenager is fit to lead a company or help someone lead a company, they have to go to university, get life experience, and grow up. Do rich people actually think like this!? Or is it just very common in media? Just because she may not seem qualified yet, doesn’t mean that won’t be in 10 years. I understand her wanting to leave the company in good hands but come on! This kind of reminds me of Ouran High School Host Club. I haven’t read that series in years and I don’t think I ever finished it, so I might reread it since I also forgot some of what happens.

Yes, there were cute moments in this volume, but I’m reminded on why I gravitate more towards adult romance and shonen romance. It’s realistic, yes, but also kind of boring for me. I still love some shojo series though and I do love vol. 4 of this series.

1.5 or 2 stars. I didn't dislike it, but it was meh. Without spoiling anything, I wasn't quite entertained, and I thought the new conflict/plot that sprouts from this volume felt forced and better suited for adult characters rather than 16-year olds.
The characters are usually pretty cute, but it wasn't enough for me this time :/
Plan to continue reading if only for Ieiri and Chihiro, and because it's a fast read.

Wow. Just wow.

This series moves fast, but it’s so beautifully done that I don’t even care—I can’t devour it fast enough! Volume 5 was an absolute whirlwind of emotions. I knew heartbreak was coming, but I didn’t expect it to hurt this bad.

Let’s talk about Grandma Ichijo… BE GONE WITH YE. I knew she’d stir up trouble, but I still wasn’t ready. The way she came for Nanami? Infuriating. If it were me, that whole situation would’ve left a bitter taste in my mouth. But Nanami, as always, handled it with grace. She’s the kind of character you can’t help but admire—strong, kind, and always moving forward, no matter what’s thrown at her.

And then there’s Yuki… WHAT is he doing?! Is he just taking Chihiro’s words to heart—"get between them yourself"—or is there more to it? Because that ending? That felt real. I can’t tell if he’s playing a game or if his feelings have finally come to the surface, but either way, I need answers.

I only have two volumes left, and I’m not ready for this journey to end. I’ve grown so attached to these characters, and at this point, I’m fully invested in their futures. Volume 6, here I come!

Thoughts on This Volume:
Adorable. So cute. (What are more synonyms that mean these words? I need to learn them…) This volume made me smile so much—until that last chapter. I’ve seen enough Kdramas with disapproving family monarchs, though, that I know it will be okay…right?

Content from this volume:
A teasing mention of praying after seeing someone beautiful; a 'damn', a “pisses me off”; A mention of wondering if someone is drunk;

1 forehead kiss; An embrace; Hand holding; Blushes; Mentions of crushes/liking someone, confessing, dating, dates, & girlfriends/boyfriends; A mention of a guy looking hot in a suit;

This one got a little too cheesy in the middle, with an extended date scene between our leads, and I really think grandma shouldn't Well, maybe those old, traditional Japanese families with businesses that are passed down from generation to generation are different from the rest of society.

Midori and Rei were brilliant and so cute in this volume. The start of the relationship and the first date was so stunning and fantastic to read about. Midori and Rei feel closer then ever, and the development in the relationship was perfect. The way Midori found her way to the party was interesting and very on point for a rich family. The miscommunication that Rei and Midori face at the end was heart breaking and it really showcased that Rei had some more growth to go through. It was nice to see Yukinojo be their for Midori and it is so heart warming to see this relationship get closer and friendlier. This was a brilliant and enjoyable read, so worth the read.

I'll admit it: I read the entire series in one day, and loved it.

I did struggle to distinguish some of the characters for a few chapters (specifically Chihiro & Yuki), but the overall illustrative style was very sweet.

THE GOOD:
🐕 Overall just so adorable with good illustrations
🐕 A fun cast of characters
🐕 A nice slice-of-life romance

THE NOT-SO-GOOD:
☔ Midori was very much a Mary Sue character, which was a bit annoying
☔ Took me a minute to be able to tell apart Yuki & Chihiro
☔ I was left wanting more! The ending was good, but there were still more stories to be told (especially after the bonus Yuki chapter!)

Rei's grandmother is a b**ch.

That could be the summary of my review. But I imagine you want a bit more so...

The art is good, as always and the story line gets a bit more interesting with the festival continuing. Yuki decides to stop getting in the way and Midori and Rei both attempt to confess their feelings at the end of the festival after party.

Super cute. Reminds me a lot of Ouran High School Host Club this volume. It'll be interesting to see how this conundrum is solved next volume, but I have to wait until the English version is released ! *pout*

And it’s Itchijo who is the problem in this relationship. Not gonna lie I don’t love this couple. Because I’ve seen it’s a million times, dark hair sad boy gets in his own way and hurts his girlfriend for no real reason.
Nanami is a low key a great heroine where she does have a lot of the basic shojo female MC characteristics but she’s not a push over and she’s always trying to understand.
Also I love every other character so much, especially Goshima. He is best boy by far in this series. I want his love story. And Yuki’s to be honest.

You got them together to just break my heart right there at the end. I mean I’m not not happy considering yes I know Rei is the love interest but I definitely prefer some of our other characters. But to see the hard ass meet her at the end and hug her even when he usually doesn’t like to be around her much was touching.
