What an whimsical idea for a cookbook! When I saw the title I was practically drooling like Homer at a plate of donuts.

The recipes inside the cookbook definitely evoke all my fond memories of The Simpsons and call back to all sorts of different episodes. This would be a cute series of cookbooks potentially if there are more candidates (Flintstones, Jetsons, Family Guy, South Park)

The recipes actually contained inside are on the simpler side though a few are more extravagant and gourmet. The real prize here lies in the way the recipes stick to the show and kind of transport you to Springfield.

This would be a must grab for any die hard fan of the series and a home run for a Simpsons Watch Party.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of The Unofficial Simpsons Cookbook.

I've been a fan of The Simpsons since it debuted on The Tracey Ullman show.

And, no, I'm not going to tell you how old I am.

I was thrilled to receive an ARC and I love all the jokes, the puns, the references to the episodes, I laughed when I read the foreword and the blurbs before a recipe.

Jokes aside, the recipes are nothing to write home about.

The photos are not visually appealing; in fact, they're quite plain and not something you would see on Instagram or want to post.

Most of the recipes are pretty straight forward and simple; others require a few more steps.

I did like the inclusion of a drinks section where you can find familiar cocktails like a Flaming Moe.

This would make an awesome gift for a Simpsons fan but I wouldn't use any of these recipes for a dinner party.

I received this ebook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I really love how bright and colorful this cookbook is. I also love how it's divided up into different meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, drinks, and desserts. I loved the Simpsons when I was younger, so I'm really excited to try some of these recipes. They're simply laid out and have really easy instructions, so that is really nice and helpful. I also really like how each recipe says which season or episode it came from so that I can go back and watch them if I want to.

The Unofficial Simpsons Cookbook by Laurel Randolph is a colourful and bold book. Set into sections of breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner, dessert and drinks. Each secretion has a small selection of recipes.
It has classics like Krusty Burgers and Sloppy Jimbos, Floor Pie and Flaming Moes. The recipes are easy to follow and seem nice, though maybe not for everyday use. There’s a lack of pictures which I think is disappointing but otherwise a great book.
Thank you netgalley for letting me read this.

What's not to love? Laurel has all the classic Simpsons foods adapted so that they actually taste good (no small feat for jokes like Krusty Brand Imitation Gruel and Caramel Cod) PLUS her writing absolutely nails the first-twelve-or-so-seasons Simpsons tone. In recipes! I say again, no small feat. If you love the Simpsons you'll love this cookbook 👍

[review of uncorrected page proofs}
This book is no joke. With genuinely helpful cooking tips and gluten-free & vegetarian options, this book offered up far more than I was expecting. It is a bona-fide cookbook "inspired by the look and flavors of the original cartoon eats." Don't think they're healthy recipes, though--it seemed like several contained at least half a stick of butter! Recipes are accompanied by illustrations and photographs [not credited in the uncorrected proofs I reviewed] as well as an episode reference.
If I weren't an introvert and threw or willingly attended parties, I'd have a Simpsons-themed party in a heartbeat just to serve Marge's Patented Happy Cracker Snack Platter (might have to bring that to the next work potluck just for fun), Little Meatloaf Men, a Delicious Gelatin Dessert, and Squishees (I feel like I might set something on fire with a Flaming Moe!).

Librarian notes: 30+ years of fans are going to guarantee an audience for this one. Also, gruel is thin porridge and can be made with cereals other than rice.

For the Simpsons fan, this cookbook is a joy to read and helps one reminisce about the glory days of one of our greatest TV shows. With such recipes as Million-Dollar Birthday Fries, Forbidden Doughnuts, and Marge's Pretzels, readers will be taken back to some of their favorite episodes in just one bite. The chapter introductions provide many inside jokes, and I love that each recipe shares what episode it came from. I can't wait to sit back with a homemade Squishiee and some Steamed Hams (Krusty Burgers) and re-watch some classic Simpsons with my kids.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

So, I got to confess that I got nothing with The Simpsons show. Nothing. I tried watching it, but it just wasn’t my show. However, I couldn’t resist this fun cooking book. While the Simpsons may not be my show I do know some of the food things one sees on the show and also a lot of the characters, thanks to the internet. Plus, I am always eager to learn new recipes/find new recipes to make at home.

This one was a ton of fun to read! Some references I got (yay internet) and others not, but I still really liked them! The recipes are very easy to follow and all get a fun introduction telling you about the show/the food item you will be making. There are cooking-tips to give some extra flavour to recipes or what to look out for with ingredients. I definitely got hungry while reading (and that while just having had breakfast). Quite a few of the recipes had photographs with how the food item would look like if you are done. While I loved these, I would have liked photographs for EVERY recipe. For me it is so important to see what the food will look like, as I often base my “should I try this one or not” on photographs.

I love that each recipe has a what episode was this food featured/mentioned on including the season number. That is such a nice addition, now you can watch the show while eating that specific food item. Not something I would do of course, but a die-hard fan, I can see them do that. Haha, I know I would have done that if I was a fan of a show and had a food item that matches.

I am glad that they added a conversion chart for US/Metric, though that one is at the last pages of the book. I would have rather seen things be directly converted instead of someone, like me, who lives in metric like most of the world, have to go back and forth and write all the things done. Plus converting… it is just annoying. I have tried making recipes with converting but it just gets too mathy for me and the joy is out of it.

All in all though, this was a fun cookbook and I am happy I got the chance to try it out. I would definitely recommend it!

The Simpsons has been an American icon for years, and while the popular television show hasn’t actually focused on food, there have been dozens of references to food during the many seasons of the show. Laurel Randolph has taken those references and turned them into an unofficial cookbook that will definitely appeal to Simpson fans everywhere. The Unofficial Simpsons Cookbook: From Krusty Burgers to Marge's Pretzels, Famous Recipes from Your Favorite Cartoon Family is fun, and if you happen to be a fan, it is a cookbook you’ll want to own.

The recipes are written in standard recipe format so that they are easy to follow, and many of them actually are appealing and cooks will actually want to make them. The recipes are mostly easy with minimal ingredients (although there are a few that are a bit time consuming and while not difficult, may take a bit of time to prepare), and most cooks, beginners to advanced, will find the recipes easy-to-follow and worth making. There are enough good dishes to prepare that fans could plan a Simpson watch-a-thon and invite their friends to watch several seasons while eating the fun dishes in the book.

While there aren’t enough photographs (most cooks like to see what the finished dish should look like before making it), there are good pictures of some of the dishes. Several of the dishes are good hearty foods that everyone likes such as Bart’s American Balls (meatballs), Little Meatloaf Men, and Marg’s Pork Chops (which are very good). There are also several appealing sweets, such as Kent Brockman’s Danish (good and easy), and Forbidden Doughnuts (baked doughnuts that are both easy and good). One extra appealing recipe is a breakfast heart attack on a plate called Good Morning Burgers and it is in the “must make immediately queue.”

All told, this is an excellent cookbook for Simpson fans everywhere. It will make a controversial and fun coffee table book and a fun addition to any cookbook collection.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

I am pleasantly surprised! Some of these recipes actually look really good!

So I saw this title while browsing my local library looking for some sort of cookbook to help 'inspire' me to make something new and thought "huh, the other might get a chuckle out of this." He read this things in one sitting....the man who reads roughly 2 books a year. Just wow. So I decided to look.

Now I will admit. I read up to and stop after reading the Krusty Gruel recipe (not exactly what it's called, but you know or will know what I mean if you watch The Simpson and/or read this book too). It took me a week to get back to the cookbook cause the thought of it, while hilarious, was just so awful to imagine in my head. lol I am not a fan of risotto or rice pudding or any time of gruel looking/feeling anything. I struggle with the texture of porridge for crying out loud. So the thought of the gruel...ugh.

But once I hopped back in I restarted to realize that a lot of these recipes weren't bad and actually sounded kinda good! Of course I was reading it while eating breakfast so I could have just been hungry... (joke)

I will probably buy this one at some point, if only so my other half can put it next to his Halo cookbook he sometimes pulls out. lol

I received The Unofficial Simpsons Cookbook as part of a NetGalley giveaway.

The Simpsons, a pop culture phenomenon for over 30 years, has spawned memes, catchphrases, theme park lands, feature films, and countless media and collectibles. In The Unofficial Simpsons Cookbook, Laurel Randolph delves into the countless dishes that have been mentioned and prepared on the show.

I'm not going to lie, given the bright, cartoonish Simpsons aesthetic, I was expecting Instagram-friendly dishes with a lot of visual appeal. Instead, these are fairly straightforward, simple recipes--think chili, spaghetti and meatballs, etc. On the whole, they were actually probably a bit too simple for my taste, though I appreciated the depth of inclusion by citing the episodes from which specific recipes came, and the inclusion of a few fun classics (The Flaming Moe!) was also a nice touch. Maybe not a cookbook I'd draw from regularly, but it would certainly be a fun gift for the Simpsons fan in your life.

I feel this book is really targeted to two groups. The Simpson fan and The Cookbook collector. I would definitely say that this book is perfect gift idea for a true Simpsons fan. It would be a unique gift that would add something a bit different to their collection. As for the cookbook collector, I also think it is a solid choice. This book offers a very good variety of recipes that can cover many occasions and for varying skill levels. There are some nice photos included (although not for every recipe) and some helpful tips to. Is this a cookbook for the serious cook? No, but it is fun and has quite a bit to offer to fans, families and the adventurous cook. I thought the Flanders's Planters Punch was delish (potent though) and the Forbidden Doughnuts a tasty treat that everyone really enjoyed. I am independently posting an impartial review.

I have been a Simpsons fan since the third grade and I still love it to this day. I had low expectations for this one but was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the recipes. I definitely can’t wait to try Marge’s famous pork chops and the birthday cake recipe.

This cookbook is perfect for a cook with a sense of humor and fir any fan of the Simpsons who wants to know how to make a Flaming Moe.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the e-arc I received in exchange for an honest review.

I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was a surprisingly standard recipe book.

There aren't a lot of pictures, and the pictures there are are of real life food, not cartoon-y Simpsons food. There are donuts, waffles, chili, spaghetti, and other pretty standard foods. The book lists what episode each food is from, but there's not much Simpson-y touches beyond that.

It's an interesting idea that may appeal to die hard fans of the series.

This recipe book is plenty of fun, and gives families the opportunity to recreate some Simpsons food items. Recipes come with the stories, or details of how the recipes are connected to the show, and the kids love it - especially big Simpsons fans! I watched The Simpsons in my childhood, and haven't watched in quite some time, and still loved the recipe book. Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

I just finished The Unofficial Simpsons Cookbook and was delighted with the amount of joyous fandom it emotes. The Fig Cake that Mr. Burns makes for Homer in the episode “Signs of a Class Struggle in Springfield…genius. It’s only downfall is it is a little light on the photos. How can you possibly print a recipe for Homer’s Nacho Hat and not have a photo of the finished product? How can I craft a hat without photo reference?

This cookbook is just a fun humorous cookbook but make sure as the consumer you are not seriously looking for actual recipes. These are just mostly silly ideas that came from the cartoon and over simplified to create in real life. I can see giving this as a gift to a true simpsons fan but nothing other than that.

A fun read. If you're a Simpsons fan, you'll enjoy this recipe book - even if you won't be making any of the food. On the other hand, the recipes are actually pretty simple since the Simpsons food sound fancy but aren't truly. They are just like any other recipe book! Square pancakes, I Love You Breakfast, Bart's America Balls, Ribwiches, and many more.

Real Recipes from the Show

I was shocked to find out these are real recipes you would find in any other cookbook. Each recipe starts with a recap of how it came to be/was used on The Simpsons. Very excited about these recipes. Very simple with mostly ingredients I already have around the kitchen.
Highly recommended for any Simpsons fan. I also recommend to anyone interested in something new and not too complicated.

This is a perfect gift for Simpsons fans everywhere - the recipes were fun, varied and actually achievable in the average home (something not so many novelty cookbooks manage to do.)

The bright colours, illustrations and information about the TV show and how their recipes linked was plentiful. I’ve bought several copies to give as gifts already.
