When most people win a lottery, they get money. I got a big green alien warrior who wants to claim my body.
Lucky me.
Entering The Mates Lottery, a contest set up by five alien races to find human brides to breed with, was the only way to get the money I needed to save my youngest sister.
I never expected to win.
And while I may have won the lottery, Prince Khirrox is dead set on winning my heart...
Prince Claimed is the first of an eight-book series called The Mates Lottery. Sexy alien warriors meet feisty Earth women who steal their hearts in this series. Will they steal yours too?
Great sci-fi romance. Darcie and her sisters are the focus of the series. Darcie get picked in the Mates Lottery by Prince Khirrox. In the story we learn of his race's background. It was interesting and the characters were varied. Also get sneak peeks of what is yet to come for the sisters. The story was steady paced and a quick read. Great start to the new series.
This may be a case of “it’s me, not you.” Or maybe I’m just on a string of poorly written books, but I just could not love this.
This book had all the ingredients for all my favourite tropes:
✅ Fated Mates ✅ Possessive MMC ✅ Touch her and 💀 ✅ FMC isn’t a doormat ✅ [Alien] Prince wants an heir/breeding trope
So I went into this basically convinced I would love it!
So why only 2 stars?
While the FMC was indeed not a doormat…I found her to be incredibly annoying and inconsistent. First voluntarily signing up for a mate lottery for money, then being absolutely FURIOUS at her mate for finding her through said lottery. Then going on a 3-day hunger strike in protest and 2 pages later basically falling in love with him.
The chapters were also super short (sometimes 3 - 4 pages long) and the author kept repeating the same catch phrases at the end of the sentences like it was some dramatic ending. Hint: it’s not dramatic when you say it every few pages.
Example: p. 47 “What was I thinking? I can't fall for an alien prince.” p. 49 “And nope. That just can't happen.” [falling for him] p. 51 “But falling for an alien prince just cannot happen.”
And something that annoyed me: she kept referring to the men as “alien men.” Like, never by their race (in fact, I completely forgot what race they were until the glossary at the end of the book). The word “alien” is used 88 times in 133 pages.
There were also many spelling/grammer errors and the story was relatively predictable.
Overall this had so much potential but the execution left much to be desired. I won’t be reading the next one.
is one with no good reason for her actions but a dedication to her own misery. Signs up to be a breeder. Wins breeder lottery HOW DARE YOU TRY TO BREED ME?!? WHAT KIND OF GIRL DO YOU THINK I AM?!?! One that doesn't hold up her end of a VOLUNTARY bargain, and insists on reneging, obviously. if they hadn't paid her,she would have been p.o'ed,but it's perfectly fine for her not to live up to her part. the aliens swearing, the *story's* pacing and the world building were inconsistent, weird and stilted. the lack of backstory for the R &C animosity made that plotline confusing at best, completely unneccessary at worst. i feel the jackson's are all just going to be annoying "i am woman, hear me roar, anything a man can do i can do better" heroines with no real character other than obstinate stubborness. wavering on reading book 2,but i KNOW i can live without finding out how everything goes down. just my thoughts. feel free to read and form your own opinion.
Darcie Jackson was on the roof of a building watching the aliens walking around in the market place. Her youngest sister had a chronic illness that poisoned her daily and she would not survive unless she had medicine which was very expensive. So her sisters were signing up for the Mates Lottery. Darcie was the last one to sign up, hoping for a miracle so she wouldn’t have to. A homeless child ran into the alley as Darcie climbed down from the roof. He had a can of beans and was being chased. He was so thin and she wished she could take him home with her, but they were also poor now. So she gave him instructions on climbing to the roof, going over 3 buildings and hiding unless the search was disbanded. When she turned around, a tall alien in a cloak was watching from the alley’s entrance. She felt strange, then he walked away.
Rox instructs his men to get the boy and put him on their ship. Then he shocks his friend Zex Cross, a healer, by asking when the Lottery closes! He had felt the mating bond as he looked at the woman in the alley. He walked into the Lottery building and gave his name: Prince Khirrox from the planet Strixa. That evening, when the names are announced on TV, all of the Jackson sisters have been chosen! Only Darcie is unwilling to go and she makes plans to run. When a spaceship lands in the yard at the farm, the alien she saw the day before stands in the yard behind her. She turns and runs for the old car to make her escape, but he seems to disappear and she runs right into his hard body. When she wakes up, she is in space and looking out at the stars! As the days pass by on the 8-month trip to Strixa, Darcie keeps fighting the way she is feeling about Rox who has shown kindness and compassion to everyone. She saw that Mick, the little orphan boy, had a job now that he loved and he was happy. She heard Rox talking to Mick in a positive, upbeat way, encouraging him to embrace his new life and honor his parents’ memory. He was a good man, and as soon as she thought that, she became hard and unyielding toward him because she foolishly thought that loving him meant her sisters would never be saved. She didn’t even know if her sisters were happy, and she certainly had no way to “save” them from anything. They had all been sent to different planets! Yet she fought constantly and stubbornly resisted falling in love with the man who loved her. Will he ever convince the stubborn woman that they are meant to be together? Would she ever see that he would cherish her always and give her the family life she craves? I think one of the early problems with this story is that it is told to us as a narrative (like a laundry list) rather than using the interactions, events, and dialog among the characters to let the reader feel something and get to know them like friends. There were attempts at that, but most of it is a told narrative so it’s difficult to become invested in the story. We are shown Darcie’s kindness with the starving child in the alley, but then she continues to be bullheaded, stubborn, irrational, and reactive where it is not warranted, which irritates the reader rather than generating compassion. Sticking with the book, however, finally starts to raise the reader’s awareness and emotions as we respect and care about Rox and the crew members Darcie talks with. Stay with the story and I think you’ll begin to enjoy it as we contemplate whether Darcie will ever see her family members again and if she will give Rox his chance. (Also, remember Rox had not wanted his brother to know his intentions on Earth, so there may be much more to perk up the reader’s interest!)
New author to me and it seems that this could be her debut book. I enjoyed the book, there was some sections that could have been better but overall its a well written action-packed alien romance with drama, suspense, a mate bond and intense chemistry that draws the reader in from the first page, I was unable to put the book down.
The plot and story line were interesting and well developed with an honorable alien Prince, Khirrox "Rox from the planet Strixa, and a smart feisty independent human woman Darcie. Darcie guilt entered into the bridal lottery out of sheer desperation to get her sister some medicine and never wanted to win, as a matter of fact she was convinced she would not be picked. When her name comes out with her sisters' names that they were picked, she is freaked out and runs, only to be run into an alien, pass out, taken and wakes up in space. So she does the only thing a prisoner can do - sulk, hide away and go on a hunger strike.
All the characters are well developed with great personalities and it’s easy to relate to them. Entertaining, action packed and fun read and I look forward to the next book in the series.

Earth has degraded to a dog-eat-dog lifestyle and one of the only hopes for anything better comes from entering the bridal lottery. A number of planets have negotiated for human partners because of their dwindling populations. Darcie doesn't want to enter the lottery, but one of her sisters is horribly ill. The payout that she and her siblings will get from putting their names in the draw is all that's keeping them afloat. What they don't expect is that not only will Darcie's name get drawn, but so will nearly all of the other sisters'. Within hours, they're separated and taken off planet. Will Darcie ever be able to give Rox her heart when he's the one keeping her from ever going back to her family?
Darcie liked to bluster and complain one second, then realize her immaturity is only hurting her and cave the next second. I kept hoping that she would learn and become more open-minded, but instead she just went on repeating her pattern. Prince Khirrox, or Rox as he prefers, recognized Darcie as his mate on site and then assumed she'd be acquiescent and fine with the situation even though no one bothered to explain anything to her. If I were told that my life's purpose was now dedicated to having children and that I could never see my family again, I'd be pretty put off too.
The plot deepened after the halfway point, but by then I was already pretty checked out.

Darcie and her four sisters are struggling on Earth barely making a living. When one of the sisters became sick and the sisters couldn't afford the medicine, they decided to make the ultimate sacrifice. They all signed up for the alien bride program. The signing bonus each had would help buy the medicine besides brides signed up but few were chosen. Darcie was horrified when she found out she and all but one of her sisters were chosen. Not wanting to be used only for breeding, she tries to run away but she is caught by her future mate Rox. Darcie would rather kill him than give in
Rox is a green alien prince with super strength. He wasn't planning to find his mate but their Goddess had other plans. On a visit to Earth, he spots Darcie and watches her stick up for a poor human boy. Her courage and caring makes it clear to Rox that she is meant to be his princess. When he arrives to pick up Darcie, he is surprised at her willingness to mate with him. He goes all out to court her but Darcie can only think about her sisters out in space
Will Rox finally convince his mate to be with him? This is a good story with a strong heroine. Rox is very Alpha but will do what he can to win Darcie.

This story about Prince Khirrox from the planet Strixa and Darcie Jackson in this first book in the series was a enjoyable read. Prince Khirrox while delivering food and supplies sees a women enter the Mates Lottery building who activated his mating bond. Alice and her sisters sign up for the Mates Lottery figuring they would never be chosen. When their names are chosen Darcie decides to run away because she doesn't want to be a breeder to Aliens. While landing his ship by Darcie's farmland Prince Khirrox sees Darcie running away and runs after her until she runs into him and knocks herself out. When she wakes up she is on his ship in space. Will their travel back to his planet give Prince Khirrox time to change Darcie's mind? This has the normal troupe in alien romances, stubborn human women, alien who knows his mate, and intro to characters for future stories. Overall I found this a enjoyable read by a new author in this alien romance genre. I received this ARC via Booksprout I volunteer to read and review.
I've read one or two books with similar storylines, Aliens and Human brides or mates. This book is my first by the author and I have really enjoyed it. Darcie was a bit naive at first, but I liked how she grew through the book. She thought signing up for the mates lottery would save her sisters , but although they'd be fed and cared for... They would no longer together as a family and thats how they all get a book each. In book 1 we meet Rox, our green Prince. Rox was quite the charming Prince even tho he's green. Maybe I'm not into green alien types, he didn't really make me wanna swoon, but he was kind and understanding but also Alpha male enough to fit the character role and satisfy the story arc. The Dragons have me fascinated, space dragons at that! Plus the blue aliens, which we will hear about in the next book. This book sets the reader up for the other sisters stories and i hope we get to catch up with Rox and Darcie in book 2.

Fun, sweet alien romance with a sort of slow burn romance! Plus, I love the whole soulmates scenario. Enjoyed the read! Love the super sweet connection between Darcie and Khirrox. Good chemistry and fun banter between them. Darcie and her 4 sisters join the alien bride lottery because they need money for their sick sister’s medication; they don’t think they’ll be picked, but that isn’t the case. Darcie is the one that doesn’t exactly handle things well when she’s chosen; she’s feisty, but Khirrox is a very understanding alien. Darcie is attracted and feels drawn to him, but she wants to get back with her sisters. Some fun action going on with some bad guys on the loose; I would’ve actually liked a bit more action, but it seems this series is going to be awesome! Cool sci-fi type stuff too! Fun and entertaining! I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the sisters finding love with their alien mates!
Darcie would do anything for family, even if it means signing up for The Mates Lottery, along with three of her sisters, to get the money for her sisters’ medication, but what were the odds she would win; that they would all win. There is no way she will become a breeder for an alien.
Khirrox “Rox”, a green-skinned alien warrior prince, has not given much thought to finding a mate until he feels the mating bond with an Earthling woman entering The Mates Lottery building. He has never felt the bond before and once the blood tests confirm the match all he has to do is convince her.
Darcie and Rox are stubborn but genuinely caring characters that make a good couple. There are good supporting characters that add plot depth. I received a free copy of this book but my review is honest and voluntary. This is a well-written sci-fi romance and with other sisters in the mix, this is going to be a great series.
Darcie and her sisters need money, to buy food and necessities, but most importantly for medicine for their sister Alice, so they've all entered the Mates Lottery, not because they expect to be chosen, but for the money given for entering.
Fox knows Darcie is the one for him at firs sight, unfortunately she has just entered the Mates Lottery... so what's a Prince to do but enter the same Lottery and trust the fates to match them?
This done in one Kindle unlimited quick read took some unexpected turns, clearly has plans for Darcie's sisters, but brings Darcie's story to a very satisfying conclusion, while exploring the difference between Darcie doing what she must to survive, and when she is freed from those basic concerns/fears, she can discover what she wants to do, what she cares about, and appreciate her inner strength and compassion for others.

The setup and worldbuilidng is excellent. The idea behind the Mates Lottery is really good. Darcie is a human who co-owns the family farm with her sisters, one of whom has a disease that needs expensive medicine. In order to pay for the medication Darcie puts her name in the Mates Lottery, knowing that she has a one in a million chance of getting randomly chosen...until she does. Rox isn't looking for a mate until a chance run in with Darcie. He will stop at nothing to win her over. The overall story is good but Darcie was so unnecessarily stubborn that I rolled my eyes a few times. It took a little while for me to feel the chemistry between them but once Darcie caved and gave Rox a chance it worked really well.
There were a few structural and grammatical errors.
Spoilers - Rox sees Darcie in an alley, helping a young homeless boy that they were going to take with them to another planet. The alien mate lottery is coming up so Rox signs up, as does Darcie, to help pay for the expensive medicine that will help her sister. All of the sisters end up in the lottery and go to different planets. Darcie is on the ship Rox is heading home in, so during the travel time, he needs to win her over to become his true mate. I enjoyed the story more toward the end, when so much was happening and we are getting to know everyone better. The welcome home to the new planet, the battle for king between brothers, the pregnancy, the healer teachings and then the kidnapping. Can not wait to see how her sister fairs against the criminal that escaped and has a gun on her.

I received this free eARC novel from the author. This is my honest review.
O. M. G. I LOVED this novel!! I can't believe how much I adore this novel! From the very beginning to the very end, I was sucked into this novel and I didn't move until I devoured this entire book.
Darcie is fierce, loyal, protective and determined. I myself would never have put my name into a mating lottery because that sounds terrifying and torture, but she did it to help her sister. And when she was on the ship to her new planet, she didn't make it easy for Rox.
I also loved loved loved Rox. I'm wishing I had my own alien right now.
I am so glad I got the chance to read this book and you can bet I'm going to be reading this entire series!
Darcie and her sisters sign up for the mating lottery to earn money so they can buy their sick sister medicine she needs to living never expecting to be picked as matches. All but one sister in picked in the annual lottery and Darcie's mate comes for her first after having seen her at the market and knowing already that she is his mate. They travel to his planet encountering adventures along the way and again once they reach his planet. At first Darcie is resistant to Rox and his courtship but he quickly wins her over. This is a story of a true love mating bond between the two. Rox is a super protective, kind and generous alien who sweetly loves Darcie and convinces her to be his mate and stay with him always.
Interesting Sci-fi Alien Romance. With two people to stubborn to give in Rox the big green Alien Prince has just spotted his mate and she is entering the mates lottery he will win his prize.
Darcie and her sisters are entering the mates lottery for one reason only to help pay for there sick sisters medicine. Darcie wants nothing to do with Aliens or there breeding needs. And one very sexy green Alien won't change her mind.
Dance will get stuck with her Alien have to make a choice love or family they have all been chosen all but one there is danger and a space battle will Rox be able to keep Darcie safe and what will happen to her sisters.
I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book via Booksprout and this is my honest review.
Fast pace alien-human romance! This takes place where humans and aliens know of each other, compromise and trade with each other. They also do a lottery event where humans win a chance to be with aliens which darcy didn’t think she would get chosen.. or all sisters! It sets the start of a new series and it was a wonderful read! I loved it! Its not insta love for Darcy but she definitely feels the pull! i love the work and understanding Rox puts to get darcy to fall for him even thought she secretly fights it and likes him 💚 Her goal is to find her sisters... but along the way she realizes is out of her control and is limited. Rox helps as much as he can and definitely is swoon worthy!!! HEA! Bring the next book plz!
I absolutely love this start to a new series! if you love aliens and any type of bride lottery, this is the book for you.
Darcie is a loving, fierce, determine and loyal woman. In order to save her baby sister, she enters the Mates Lottery to get the money she needs. She never expected to win, but win she did. And along come Prince Khirrox a hot and sexy alien.
This book is a slow burn and starts off slowly but continues to build as the story progress. The chemistry between Rox and Darcie is sizzling hot. You'll get plenty of humor, action and of course some heat. This is a definite must read and I can't wait to see what the next book brings!

Earth is a rough place, especially for a family of young women trying to keep a farm going and pay for expensive medicine. One way to get help is to join the Mate Lottery to become the mate of an alien. Darcie reluctantly joins to help her sister and is shocked to win. Her prospective mate takes her on his ship and brings her to his world. The trip takes eight months in which Rox can convince Darcie they are meant to be together. The first part of the book with Darcie and Rox getting acquainted on the ship is occasionally frustrating because of Darcie’s flipfloppong, but once they reach the planet things get exciting and dangerous. ***3.75 stars*** Nice start to The Mates Lottery series by Vivian Star. The development of the storyline and world for this book was great. Darcie and her sisters put their names in the Mate Lottery to get money to pay for their ill sister’s medicine. Rox is an alien prince that has found his mate in Darcie. Rox is adamant that she should give him a chance. Darcie is a childish and selfish human. After being chosen she runs instead of taking responsibility of what she signed up for. I just couldn’t get over her character she was so annoying. Liked the action, drama, mate bond, and Darcie’s sisters. Hope to read their stories next

I have a new author i will be following and I will be looking forward to each book in this series. It is a stand alone story that can be read on it's own but it does make you want to read more. It is an engaging story that draws you in. You really get to know the characters and can feel the love between them. I cried reading this book and I loved it. It make me sit on the edge of my seat but also happy and sad. It is very descriptive too I could see it all play out in my mind. I will be looking for more from this author and I am very glad i got to read this book.

The first an exciting new series! Darcie Jackson enters The Mates Lottery along with her sisters hoping to win so they can afford the medicine her sister Alice needs in order to live. Prince Khirrox of Strixa wins Darcie, having entered the lottery after seeing Darcie in an alley. Prince "Rox" comes to collect Darcie and the journey begins! I loved it!! This easy to read story captures your attention right from the beginning. It's humorous, intriguing and the characters have great chemistry. Keep the books coming Vivian!!

Really enjoyed the story. The series begins with Darcie Jackson and her sisters. Darcie encounters a man in a cloak and suddenly she feels a pain in her chest. He is a prince and recognizes her as his intended mate right away. His friends call him Rox a shortened version of his full name. Darcie and her sister who she is with are headed to sign up for the mate lottery. When Rox sees her go into the office he goes in later and signs up himself. The story continues with Rox trying to win her over. I recommend the story. I believe people will enjoy taking the journey with them. There are sexual scenes that may offend some readers. Otherwise, go for it!
I think this does well laying the foundation for a new series. I'm a newbie to this author and like that the story is adventurous with sexy warrior action. I love the determination, patience and protectiveness of the Prince. I love that she challenges him with her independent and stubborn ways. Tense moments, sad moments and sweet, happy moments all come together well and I am intrigued to find out what the next lottery mate adventure will bring.

This was a very well-written book 1 in The Mates Lottery Series that I really liked. It had exceptionally crafted characters that worked well together. The story and characters engaged me throughout the book. I loved the characters while watching them grow. I found this book fascinating with great word building which made me feel apart of the story as it unfolded in front of me. A must read for any fan of Alien Romance and it had many twists/turns, deceptions, action, adventure, betrayal, and love

This wasn’t great. The writing wasn’t consistent, the characterization wasn’t consistent, there was basically no world building, the pacing was off, and then, this is just one of my personal icks that someone else might not notice but the big bad at the end of the book being his adopted brother? Why would you make the adopted brother the villain, and then also specifically have the mom say she preferred her biological son over him? I was super not impressed by that and I don’t feel a desire to continue to series.
This was my first book by this author, that being said, I devoured this one. The characters are intriguing, you’re introduced to each of the alien species, given the back story and there’s so much foreshadowing that you cannot miss it. I love the sisters they’re all strong individuals that will find their way back to each other. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

stolen from earth by a rigged Mates lottery because the giant green alien who saw her help a young boy escape someone chasing him decided she was his chosen one, his fated mate. Now can she fall in love with him and find her sisters in the vastness of the universe? this was a great read with tons of action, adventure, emotion and great characters.

This is a great start to a new author and series for me which I enjoyed a lot. The characters are likable and engaging. Darci and all but one sister has been picked by different aliens in the lottery. She is paired with prince Rox after he saw her helping a little boy in an alley. I loved the drama and the love these two have for each other and looking forward to the next sister's story, Savannah.
