Wonderful!

I absolutely love a Shelby Nichols Adventure and this one is every bit as wonderful as the others. In fact I think it’s my new favourite although I probably say that after every new adventure. Dying Wishes is jam packed with exciting cases for Shelby to solve with the cutest sidekick, but I can’t make up my mind whether that’s Ramos, Dimples, or Coco. I highly recommend it, you won’t be disappointed.

Absolutely Fabulous

This Shelby Adventure was one of my favorites out of the whole series. Of course, Coco definitely had a lot to do with it, but there was so much excitement in all the cases Shelby was working. Just reading about everything she does for so many people made me tired and I am excited to see what else Colleen Helm has in store for Shelby, Coco, and the rest of the family including the Manettos and Ramos!!

Five million stars.

This honestly may be the best Shelby book yet. All of them are perfect and I love them but this one was insane. In the best ways. I’m too ready for another one. Please tell me there’s gonna be another one.

Great book

I don't know how Colleen Helme does it, but this series stays fresh and interesting -- each book is better than the one before and leaves me looking forward to the next book. I know the series is "paranormal" , but the way Shelby's character developed, I seem to just accept her gifts as totally believable.

This series shows no sign of slowing down. Shelby is such a grounded and relatable character, the supernatural elements don't seem out of place at all. If you haven't started the series, start from Carrots and enjoy the journey.

I love Shelby and am always excited when I get an email from Colleen about another book. I can't believe we're already at number 14!!! This was most definitely one of my favorites - most get between 3.5 - 4.5 stars, but this is a 5 star read for me.

So much is happening in this book! Shelby has been away from the police recovering from when she was shot in NY, not to mention the previous run-in with a stalker that she ended up shooting and killing. In her absence, another psychic has tried to move in on her turf. I really enjoyed their conflict and the competing "supernatural?" abilities. It was a fun twist to her work with the police.

Uncle Joey is also thinking about everything that happened in NY and starting to set his affairs in order - which leads to some unexpected twists for Shelby. I wasn't really sure how I felt about it (neither did Shelby honestly) and I'll be curious to see if things are really settled in this area.

Then there are the THREE murder investigations Shelby gets pulled into. Each had their own interesting elements. My favorite element was the family's new dog!! I love when animals are a big part of a story. Shelby's abilities allow her to communicate with their new dog, which gives him added personality. And one of the investigations got very intense and scary at one point.

So yeah, this book had everything I love about Shelby - fun interactions with most my favorite characters (I miss Billy, Dimples wife!), paranormal/supernatural fun, some intense moments, some funny moments, and solid mysteries. And then you add in the dog and I'm thrilled. Looking forward to more!

Dying Wishes is unexpected, amazing, awesome, breathtaking, heart-stopping, and wonderful. From the first surprise to the last twist Colleen Helme's newest addition to the Shelby Nichols Adventure series grabbed me and barely let me go for pit stops. I really need to quit reading her books the moment they land on my Kindle but no way can I resist even though they arrive in the middle of the night.
As most readers, I adore the fun flirting between Shelby and Ramos; she should know by now that any zinger she sends his way is coming back to her doubled. lol. In real life I wouldn't approve of the tempting sport, but it is one of the fun parts of this series. Ramos knows she loves her husband and would never leave him; that loyalty is one of the things that makes her so attractive to him. He would never damage her life, but a guy can dream.
Coco!!! Shelby promised their kids a dog after they cared for another great one some time back, but the kids would have fallen in love with almost any dog that loved them. Coco is so much more. Even the kids can kind of understand when he speaks! YUP! Smart, kind, and so in need of their devotion, Coco is the perfect dog for the Nichols family. YUP! Trying to solve three mysteries is a major stressor for Shelby and Coco is a big help with that too.
As always there are surprises that make trying to figure out the mysteries even more entertaining as well as some unexpected events in Shelby's life...I mean...a psychic trying to take Shelby's job??? Really!

Shelby is so dumb and cluelees

I don't understand how this author has made the main character, Shelby, so dumb. This series would have been so much more enjoyable if Shelby would have had normal intelligence. I found my self declaring many times," Give me a break, no one is that stupid. Especially since she was working with the police. Colleen Helm please smarten up your female characters. I found it insulting and madening

Shelby Nichols #14 Dying Wishes is a great read. Every time Colleen Helme writes another Shelby Nichols Adventure, I say this is the best one yet, and I mean it. Like a fine wine, Colleen Helme continues to refine in vintage nuances and subtle tones and notes. She just keeps getting more refined as a writer and her characters continue to grow, mature, and evolve. The more she writes about Shelby and all the main characters, the more pleasure it is to read the stories. I never get tired of them, and I never will. I listened to the audiobook as well, and in my mind, Wendy Tremont King IS Shelby Nichols.

One of the remarkable things about these books is that they follow a flow of time continuum and the characters really grow and change as they mature. While you would never want to think of Uncle Joey "the Knife" Manetto as less than very dangerous, he is certainly a mob boss with a lot of character and a lot of heart, and he is very loving of those he holds dear. But if threatened or crossed, he will kill, and so will his hottest of the hot hitman, Ramos. Ramos could practically be a story unto himself, and in fact, has his own book Devil Rider as well as featuring prominently in all the other adventures. He's even got his own song. And many, many, women, fans of Collen Helme, who are constantly drooling over him. His story could easily be spun off into his own adventure books. The barely restrained naughtiness and the chemistry between him and Shelby are always on a knife-edge of going too far.

The biggest problem with the Shelby Nichols adventures is that I read them, and then I'm done, and then I need to wait for the next one. Of course, reading some of the stories that I have not read in a while is always great, because I notice or remember things that I had missed or forgotten.

Shelby Nichols and I met while I was a road warrior, now nearly 10 years ago, and she has traveled all over the world with me. It is part of why I feel like I know her, and why I love to read the adventures. In this latest adventure, we learn that she CAN communicate with animals, in this case, a search and rescue german shepherd who loses his master, and Shelby has to untangle the mystery of who killed him. We also discover, yet again, that while she can read minds, she can also pick up thoughts, emotions, and messages of a sort from dead people. The main plot is always entangled by sub-plots that look like a strand of DNA, and they always add to the enjoyment and robust character of these wonderful adventures.

The books are always edge of your seat grippers, page-turning adventures that cost me way too much sleep, and that I cannot put down, and Dying Wishes is just as exciting, dramatic, emotional as the rest of them. This one caused me to laugh out loud, to gasp, and yes, I even teared up in certain spots unexpectedly. That is a tribute to just how good a writer Colleen is, and just how good these books are.

What are you waiting for? Get in and fasten your seat belt!

A ghost, dog and drug case

Another crazy book as usual. Three different stories/cases - one with ghost, dog and drugs. Very well written, fast moving and great cast of characters. I wanted to read more. Some new characters were also introduced and one was dropped for good I hope. The inclusion of the Counsellor was interesting as Shelby sort of used what she read in his mind to help herself as well. I can’t work out which ‘case’ I enjoyed most, I think the ghost and dog story come in equal 1st and then the drug case. The ghost case was about romance and suspense while the dog case was about family. The drug case showed her relationship between the police and the mob and the very thin line she is walking. Cases from both sides, good and bad.

There is still that balance between good and bad that Shelby continually faces and she is walking a very thin line. I’m amazed she hasn’t died with the amount of times she comes so close. I guess she is very lucky to have Ramos, Dimples and now her dog. We get to see more with her ghost abilities. It would be great if she could actually see them and talk to them as well.

I loved the introduction of the dog and so glad it was a German Shepherd. I guess the cover sort of gave it away. Was hoping it would be a service dog - police or army - but was not expecting what it was. Curios? You will have to read the book. I hope she also uses Coco to help through that service as well and with her other police work. I liked how she interacted/talked with Coco and would like to see more interactions between Shelby and other animals. Wish I could do that. Maybe a case at the Zoo?

I know I shouldn’t be thinking this but I wish she would hook up with Ramos and remove the husband through separation or death. I guess the this author writes the two men, the are very different, and way more attracted to Ramos. But I guess there are those who are attracted to the husband. The chemistry between Shelby and Ramos was well written and still very present. Glad Uncle Joey changed his mind at the end but was interesting to see how she was dealing with it and the inner mechanism of her mind. She’s almost worked with all law enforcement now, so would like to see her work with military and with Coco above. I liked the title of this book and how it fit in with one of the stories/cases and the cover of the book, as can’t not like the dog in it.

Really do love this series and wish it would never end….highly recommend.

As you can guess from my title I loved this book. Some how the very talented author manages to keep the series going strong and book fourteen is still as fresh, interesting and captivating as book one. I love the addition of the dog to the Shelby household but must confess I did have a few tears. There was so much going on, helping the police, working and worrying about uncle Joey and even solving the death of her dogs previous owner, that the hours spent listening to the story just flew by. There were three cases or mysteries going on but with the carefully worked out plot it was easy to follow along. The characters are wonderful and a very mix group but everything about this story works for me, even the ghostly helping hand and mother nature part seems right for a Shelby adventure and her mind reading ability never gets old. Can't wait for the next book.
Shelby returns from a less than relaxing holiday to find the police department have hired a new psychic while she was away and she and Dimples are working a case. A woman as been found covered in blood with no memory of what happened. When her husband is found dead Shelby hopes they don't make a big mistake. At the same time someone is using Uncle Joey's name to sell drugs and when he turns up murdered the police are once again looking at the mob boss. On the home front Shelby is talked into rescuing a dog from the animal shelter only to find out the reason he was placed there was because his previous owner was murdered. Can she help get to the bottom of all three cases? Show up the psychic as being a fraud or at the very least stop her from replacing her? And can she keep her secret from the counsellor that the police department require her to see but maybe her dog would be a much better sounding board for all her worries about her cases and Uncle Joey.
Wendy is a brilliant narrator and she does some great voices for the characters, even the dog sounds good. Yep!
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Another winner from Colleen Helme. I alternated between listening and reading and will admit that I ended up listening more. The reason, the narrator that brings this book to life has become - to me- the voice of this series. She does Shelby so perfectly. I do not think I could take it if the narrator was ever changed - but that might be just me.

I am and have been in love with the zany mother of two teenage children, married to her husband the lawyer (Chris), and who was shot in the head and can now read minds. She is so amazingly good hearted, but for some reason - she is also a walking disaster. Even with ALL of the trouble that she ALWAYS happens to find herself in. It is not always her fault - well, not ALL of the time.....

This book made up for the last book and went back to all of the things that have made this a great series. Honestly, if you think about it - I really do not think that Shelby has ever gotten into as many dangerous "situations" as she does in this book. We are also seeing something of a - what might the correct word be? - something of a progression or developing of her abilities. This book showcased some of these, and it freaked the heck out of pretty much everyone, including Shelby.

She is walking a fine line - between the relationship with her "Uncle Joey" and with Dimples. One being a mob boss and the other a police detective. She has been able to walk this fine line in the past, but it is becoming clear that it may not be possible too much longer. That added to the drama. But, she has so many people that would drop everything if she needed help and run to her defense. She is that much of a compelling character.

All of these things added to a wonderful stress build up - for Shelby and for the reader. There was drama, action, mystery, danger....it was a wonderful book and it made me laugh just as much as it made me cringe. LOVE this series....completely!!!

I CAN NOT wait to see how much more trouble she can get into next!

As always I love the paranormal aspect, the mind reading, the funny dialog and plot twists.
The lost stars are for the following reasons which are unfortunately been the same in the last few books:

1- The thing with Ramos, it's called cheating!! it would've been ok without crossing the lines with the kissing and hugging, but she basically told him she loves him and in her mind, its ok and justifying all of that as long as they didn't sleep with each other.
I wonder how would she feel if Chris was the one who's going around with another woman thinking she's hot and sexy, and kisses, hugs her and go on late night rides with her!!!......

2- The long and repeated inner dialog just filler.

3- For some reason Shelby has many stupid moments, at this point she should have become smarter. With her mind reading and all the things she experienced and gone through, many obvious things she should have thought of or prepared for, but she goes around like acting like a stereotype stupid blond.
Example, 1. when she finds out that a gang unit detective has taken an interest in her, while she's on a gang related case which involves the mob bo she's hanging around everyday, the least she can do is to be more careful!!
2. Not also to forget always slipping up and answers ppl thoughts, blurtting out stuff without thinking, and taking stupid risks.

All of these reasons get on my nervous and stopping me from completely enjoying the books, last few books I started skipping to get over with it.

I hope things get better next books, but I doubt it.

It’s great to be back in the world of Shelby Nichols. “Dying Wishes” takes place shortly after Shelby and her family’s return from New York. She is having nightmares after her close call with the mob boss in New York. Before she can go back to working with the police she has to be cleared by the police psychologist.

Once Shelby enters the station, she discovers that they now have another consultant, Willow, working with them. Shelby is a little hurt by this and Dimples feels guilty about it as well. Dimples is not too crazy about Willow.

Meanwhile on the home front Shelby and her husband promised the kids they could get a dog. When they go to the pound there is a depressed looking dog that seems to have chosen them. His name is Cocoa. He will play a pivotal role in their lives but first he wants something from Shelby. Cocoa wants her and I find the person that who murdered his former master.

In addition to all of that Uncle Joey wants Chris to draw up his own will in which he wants Shelby he o he is the executor of his estate. Additionally he plans to legitimize his holding and wants Shelby to take over. Is he dying? What is going on? You have to read the book to gain the answers to these and many more questions.

I love this series and adding in Cocoa the dog as a new character really keeps this series fresh and adds to new possibilities. This was one of my favorite installments and I am sure the next ones will be just as good or better!

Shelby Rocks again!

Wow another brilliant Shelby Nichols adventure. I absolutely love this series. Shelby is having nightmares after being targeted by a mob hit Man in the last story. As a condition for her return to work at the precinct she has to see a therapist before she's cleared for work. But she finds a physic working with Dimples and by reading her thoughts she knows the physic is definitely after her job. Add to that a couple of murders investigations and helping Uncle Joey, Shelby has got loads on her plate. She also promised her kids that they can get a dog but the dog comes with another mystery to solve. I love these books and own them all including a selection on audible that are beautifully narrated by Wendy Tremont King. In my mind she is Shelby. Start with Carrots and you won't be disappointed. Love these books.

Awesome Book

I Love This Series. Shelby is a happily married woman with two teenaged children. She has the ability to read minds. And she works part time at three jobs, as a consultant for the police, as a consultant in her own business, and as a consultant for a mob boss, endearingly referred to as Uncle Joey. Shelby is pulled in three directions, good, bad, and for herself. But the lines between good and bad seem pretty thin most of the time. Somehow she pulls off the impossible and keeps everyone satisfied. This book was fabulous. She has three murders to solve, plus some very weird happenings with Uncle Joey and his business. A lot going on kept this book a fast page turner. And the relationships she is developing are so interesting! Mild flirtation with an assassin, and friends with Big Kahuna, a Samoan gang leader. Really fun times. I wish I was Shelby.

Another winner! I've read all of the Shelby Nichols adventures and they just get better and better. In this one Shelby returns from her New York vacation to find she's been replaced at the Police Department by another woman who gets premonitions. There are cases piling up and Manetto wants to name Shelby as his successor. The stress is too much and Shelby is ready to break. The kids remind her of her promise to get them a dog so she caves and takes them to the pound. While there she finds a dog who seems to pick her and her family. They adopt Coco and that leads to yet another mystery for her to get involved in solving when Coco takes Shelby on a walk to his old home only to find his old master was murdered and no one knows who did it.

I really enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes mysteries with a something something extra.

The good and bad Shelby

I always anticipate with a readers excitement a new Shelby Nichols book. Some of that has to do with Ramos, as I'm sure many enjoy a sexy hit man. That's the world we escape to, where an everyday mom can mind read, talk to dogs and save her world, with the help of the mob and especially their top hit man. Hubby Chris deserves five stars for keeping it real! As with some other series the first book is still my favorite, because it introduces the characters and the guiding action of the plot. Every book expands Shelby's growing responsibilities and its catching up to her. Required counseling doesn't help her as much as being chosen by Coco to be their family pet. I'm not a fan of reviews that repeat the plot so I encourage you to grab book one and step into Shelby's world. You'll love it!

I don’t think I could convey how much I love this series...

Another instalment in the exciting life of Shelby Nichols.. a mum, a wife, a consultant for the police, and she’s entangled with a mob boss.. the best part, she can read minds!
Seriously, go pick up the 1st book, Carrots... you will not be disappointed..

So, this is another great read, that it kept me up late into the night.. we have the introduction of Coco (L❤️ve him already) another mystery to solve, a tangle with drug dealers, and some ghostly shenanigans.. what more could you want?! You’re right, there’s Ramos too :)
Brilliant writing, brilliant characters with a completely engaging story... seriously, 1st book is Carrots 😉

Two major themes in this book. First, the absolute joy of rescuing a dog. When a dog finds itself abandoned through no fault of its own. It is totally confused. Their entire world is lost. When they trust a new human, it is a big risk. The second theme is that life ends. Everyone faces their own mortality. Sooner or later you realize you will not have forever. You need to set a plan for your loved ones to be cared for. Uncle Joey tries to plan for his empire and realizes it is a monumental job that not just anyone can do. Shelby and Ramos can't do it together. even with Chris running the legal side. It's a rough business.

A good addition to the series.

I really enjoy this series. Shelby has her hands full with her crazy life. Besides investigating two murders, she sees a psychologist, deals with a rival psychic and adopts a dog. Coco, the dog, wants her to find the murderer of his dead owner. Shelby gets into tough situations as she tries to balance her life. She walks a thin line between helping the police or helping Uncle Joey.

Another winner by Colleen Helme. I couldn't put the book down until I finished it, I read it in one day Shelby is such a special character and with exciting fun adventure. This book has it all and the new addition to the family that will steal your heart.
I love the Shelby Nichols books, and so ready for the next one which I hope is very very soon starring the new addition to her family. Please start with her first book if you are a new reader to this series.

Perfect.

Shelby puts so much on her plate she doesn't know how the stress of her job is going to affect her. With the new help of her four legged Friend Coco, will she be able to keep her plates turning and keep her relationship with a Mob boss away from the police.
This has everything to keep you reading till the end. Can't forget the sexy hit man that any girl could crave. Just another amazing book!

Such an incredibly inspiring read

Helme has yet again rocked it with this addition to the Shelby Nichols Adventures. I just finished the entire series back to back for the second time and I re quick ally just want to start again. The dynamics of the characters, relationships, plots and twists keep the series moving quickly forward and never predictable for the entire series. I can't think of a more unique and thrilling series.

Dying Wishes

Loved this addition to the series. Shelby is going through a lot. Between expectations from the police (three murder mysteries) and uncle Joey's expectations of the future and a new awesome pup named Coco, Shelby hands are full. The last thing she needs is another psychic taking her place. Lots going on and Ramos doing Ramos things, it makes for a great read. Highly recommend.

I love Shelby! The latest in the Shelby Nichols Adventure series is every bit as good as the ones before--if not better! I feel so connected to these characters that I can hardly put the book down without finishing it. If you like suspense, humor, and a dash of daring... this is the book to purchase. I am looking forward to the next installment in this terrific mystery.
