VIDEO REVIEW HERE: https://youtu.be/cZ5wkISCNpQ

I really enjoyed this volume!

I sort of felt like I went into this volume thinking it could be the "deal breaker" if I continued the series because the way Edy interacted with Filimena bothered me a lot in volume one. There were times I felt she just needed to break the engagement, but seeing this very sweet cover made me hopeful that things would change, and they sort of did!

Is Edy really any different throughout the course of the volume? No. LOL! However, I can say that I LOVED his interactions with the hero's party and laughed a few times at how moody he was! But I also really loved seeing him "warm up" to his companions, especially the hero, who was SO sweet!!

And speaking of, I LOVED the hero and was absolutely thrilled he got a whole chapter! His bright, sunny personality of course clashed with Edy's and I was all for it! LOL!

With this though, I will say that once again the writing was superb, and LOVED how it poked fun at the traditional isekai RPG plot! It was fun and I really really enjoyed that part of this volume significantly because Filimena isn't the most exciting of heroines (and I don't mean that rudely), but her pointing out this really felt like a cliche RPG/fantasy story was awesome! I loved it when she even commented about how the Lord of Darkness was returning and couldn't take it seriously for a moment because of the name. LOL!

But changing topics, as much as Edy's treatment towards Filimena bothered me, I really did love the ending of this volume. Seeing him so softhearted and FINALLY show his feelings for her on his sleeve really made it worth it honestly!

Considering how this volume ended, I'm extremely unsure of what will happen next. If someone really wanted to, they could just read these first two volumes and call it a day because the story feels wrapped up very nicely!

I however will definitely continue to read the series and hope I continue to enjoy it because this volume was good!

This volume had more action combined with the sweet romance and I loved it as much if not more than volume one!

The hero’s party to save the world plot line was my favorite part and I really liked the new characters of Al, Yuri, and Clementine especially Yuri who just really wanted to befriend Edy and did so even though Edy was totally fed up with him, lol. And the action was sooo good especially one certain part that’s a spoiler but really hit me right in the heart and just…!!! 😭😱

And Filimena realizing she loved Edy…😭😭😭 Sooo sweet though heartbreaking in the context of her realization. And Edy finally got a little less harsh though not too much. Wouldn’t want grumpy Edy to turn too nice on us, now would we? 😉

I’m looking forward to reading the next volume! Of course that all depends on whenever my library decides to get it…

‼️Content‼️

Language: what the; damn

Violence: fighting evil creatures and people with weapons and magic (nothing over PG-13); bodies are shown lying on a battlefield (nothing over PG-13); a character sacrifices themself on the battlefield; a character is smacked in the gut

Other: magic; magical powers/abilities/creatures/place; a character was reincarnated; a fantasy world has fantasy spirits and a goddess; wizards; a dark lord; a character is called a monster and a demon; grief over a lost loved one; a demon lady

Edy and Filimena have been engaged and spending significant time together, allegedly, since this book doesn’t handle concepts like the passage of time well, but Edy is forced to go on a quest to defeat the Dark Lord with a bunch of companions. When the unthinkable happens, Filimena must come to terms with the state of things, and the audience must come to terms with the fact that it’s meant to care.

I’m no writer, but I think if you want the audience to care about anything in your story, you should probably develop it. The miserable, grouchy relationship between the sourpuss Edy and the incredibly patient Filimena barely has time to be anything except more freaking tea before this whole Dark Lord business starts up.

Once the chosen hero and the other party members (I mean, Filimena knows what’s up at least) head off it’s basically nothing but Edy and these new characters, but I don’t care enough about the main pair yet to give a crap. I know it’s symbolic, but that damn handkerchief cannot stand in for character development.

Filimena’s utterly unwarranted jealousy from nothing over the princess (I’ll at least give them a nod for making the latter much different than the usual archetype she seems). The tragedy that bogs down the book and dares to maybe go somewhere interesting before it’s hand waved away (“I am better than every other person who had done this” is lousy writing). This is just a mess.

Let me give you three immediately obvious ways this book could have been smarter. One, Filimena is actually the titular wizard because of her very black hair in her previous life. Two, Edy actually ends up in Japan. Three, Filimena is the one who pulls the magic sword from its resting place and becomes the chosen hero. Instead, mopey and mopey learn to copey is the order of the day.

The art goes from wildly dynamic and detailed to wonky as hell again - one of the last panels of the princess makes it look like her chin is melting. It ends with a big moment that should wreck the title of the book and doesn’t land whatsoever based on its previous actions.

There’s so much glossing over things that should be far more prominent. I utterly lost it when Filimena thinks to herself that she should be honest with Edy because she’s an older woman in a young body during the climactic scene. The time for that was probably a couple vows ago!

2.5 stars, rounded down because annoyed. They might as well chop the ‘fiancée’ part of this off the title because this book couldn’t care less about it’s title character. Everything is in service to this dour jerk. I’m half tempted to try a third volume to see if this can get any better as I’m morbidly curious where the story might even go now, but it’s going to be a hard sell.

This story grew on me the longer it went along. I appreciated the idea that the main character wasn't involved in the heroic fantasy part of the story. Only Filimina and Edy's reticence is keeping them apart, and there are no serious impediments or misunderstandings thrown their way. Their supporting cast is fun and cute.

For some reason, though, it wasn't as impactful as it could have been. It's light and comforting, and I can certainly enjoy a "cozy" now and then, so that isn't the problem. It's probably the low stakes, in combination with the world-building being generic (bog-standard medieval fantasy world with king, princess, magic school, council of wizards, JRPG elements, ho-hum), and the story being rather predictable.

I'm still not convinced this needed to be an isekai. In fact, there are some things about its being in that genre that make this story uncomfortable. For example, Edy has no idea he's marrying someone with a mind that's nearly 50 years old, because Filimena never brings it up, even when she's at her most open and honest with him.

The story could quite easily end here, with... well, you can see the cover for yourself. The title of the series will be inaccurate, unless some other fiancée of another wizard is the main character in the next part!

I'm not the one buying these, and if it were entirely up to me, I'd stop reading here. But if another one makes its way into my hands with no effort or expense on my part, I'll probably be curious enough to read it.

This series has so much potential that it's just not living up to. (And some of the worst names in fiction.)

Me, crying over a book? Yes, yes I am. This manga tore so desperately at my heart and soul. The couple finally moves past school, and are finally finding time to spend together, only for him to be forced to go to war. The past life scenario plays into this one a bit more than the last, and there's some heart breaking news that turns to joy. Nonetheless to quote Brendon Urie, "What a Beautiful wedding."

Today’s post is on Fiancée of the Wizard Manga, Vol. 2 by Masaki Kazuka (Illustrator), Syuri Nakamura (Original Creator), Keiko Sakano (Character Design). It is 176 pages long and is published by Yen Press. The cover has the two main characters in their wedding clothes. The intended reader is someone who has read the first volume, likes shojo manga, and isekai stories. There is no foul language, no sex, and very mild violence. The story is told from third person close of the main characters. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- An ordinary story with an extraordinary love...

With Egiedeyrus's time at school behind him, he's quickly appointed as the prestigious

Chief Enchanter to the Court. Though Filimena hopes their nuptials will soon follow, Edy's busy work schedule continues to obstruct their time together. Despite setbacks, Filimena is content to wait, but the evolution of her new life takes an ominous turn with news of the Lord of Darkness's resurrection...The worst is still yet to come, however, as Edy must join the Hero's party on a quest to save the kingdom!

Review- An excellent continuation from the first volume. Most of this volume is the quest to defeat the Dark Lord but we get to see how much Edy loves Filimena and what he is willing to risk to get back home to her. It is a fun volume that ends with their marriage. We also see the hero of light and I like him. He is not put off by Edy’s rough personality or his black hair that causes Edy no end of trouble. The bad guy is beaten and the lovebirds get married at the end. Edy now has a cool new scar from the adventure. Filimena has some character growth as she has to deal with thinking that Ey has died on the adventure. But I was proud of her, as she faces herself and comes out stronger for it. I am very curious about where the story is going to go from this point on. I recommend this series.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

I didn't realise you could read this online. So this whilst down as the paperback, the paperback is I believe, the same as the online version. There are 6 chapters I believe per paperback which is brilliant because I was able to read volume two.

Fiancée of the Wizard, Vol. 2 continues the captivating romance between Lidia and Prince Elrad, blending magic, political intrigue, and emotional growth. This volume dives deeper into Lidia’s struggles as she tries to prove her worth in a world that doubts her, while her relationship with Elrad faces new challenges.

The artwork remains stunning, with beautifully detailed character expressions and elegant fantasy settings that enhance the storytelling. Lidia’s determination and resilience make her a relatable protagonist, though her hesitations can be a bit frustrating at times. Elrad’s devotion shines through, making their dynamic both sweet and compelling.

While the pacing occasionally slows due to exposition, the character development and plot twists keep the story engaging. The mix of romance and magic makes this a satisfying sequel, leaving readers eager to see what’s next for Lidia and Elrad.

With that said the world building was slightly better in this volume. with more details around the world and it was a brilliant read, but it still felt like the world was lacking in what was within it. The focus was mostly on the yearning of each character for one another which was cute, and the art is the main reason I'm still reading.

There was more going on here story wise than the last book. Seeing Edy go out on a quest with new characters was interesting.
Still having problems with his personality and filamina just rolling with it.
I had some complaints in the last book about their romance together since it doesn’t make much sense. I still feel the same way mostly. I get he likes her for accepting him when no one else did. But why does she like him? He’s a jerk. I never really got a solid reason nor do I understand.
At least by the end of the book he actually tells her he cares for her. Finally! He was engaged to her for many years and never expressed affection so she didn’t know how he felt about her.
A similar type of dynamic happens with Edy and the hero who is desperately trying to befriend him after finding out Edy has a fiancé. Edy is a jerk to him too but for some reason the hero wants to be besties. Again, I don’t get it.
Anyways, I am interested to read more and to see where this is going. It’s not so bad that I can’t continue, I just have some gripes about the personalities and relationships in this series so far. This book ended on a happy note which I am satisfied with.

In this volume, absence makes the heart grow fonder. The couple is separated due to a magical war. Filimena acts understandably torn up from Edy’s departure, but their relationship isn’t that deep to warrant that level of tears.

Again, since this is an isekai/reincarnation story, Filimena makes a lot of RPG references and self-aware quips (meta jokes I guess). The illustrations are still lovely and there are some shots of Egiedeyrus “Edy” where he just looks utterly broody and regal.

I thought I would be annoyed at the sudden appearance of a new character, hogging the spotlight. But he’s actually cheerful and endearing. His earnest attempts to melt Edy’s frosty demeanor are lighthearted and sweet. Also, there’s actually a little tension here.

The first story arc of this series is complete in two volumes, although it goes on from there. The lead character, Filemina, wakes up from an illness when she is six years old with vague memories of an earlier life in modern-day Japan. In her current world (the standard vaguely-medieval world of fantasy manga) she’s a nobleman’s daughter. The story follows her romance with Edy, a wizard who is ostracized because of his black hair, which in this world means he has powerful magic; of course, being from Japan, Filomena is not put off by black hair at all. He goes off to wizard school, then to work for the royal court, and because he’s sullen and inarticulate, he never tells Filemina he loves her, but because this is a shoujo manga, she waits patiently for him to open up. What’s odd about this book is that the main character is away from most of the action, although enough happens to keep it fairly interesting. The art is done in a gorgeous, detailed shoujo fantasy style.

I didn’t expect them to get married in this volume, I thought there was going to be more build up of their relationship before that happened but nope plus Edy’s character development just came out of nowhere…lol

After years of basically no contact and then being cold to her when they finally reunite I thought they would interact more so that he would warm up a bit and then they would get married but no. He comes back after battle and then suddenly is able to be kind and loving towards her lol

It’s nice to see because I was getting annoyed that she was clinging to Edy so much despite his coldness towards her. I would think that someone who is really a 30 yr old woman would be more confrontational.

Not gonna lie I still enjoy this story (it’s become a guilty pleasure) and I’m gonna read the rest.

I give this a 3.5 but I rounded it up.

Definitely has its flaws, namely character development (there is either none or a quick and complete change), a weak FL (Filimena’s about as interesting as a hairbrush), and strange pacing (the main ‘dark lord’ war is over in a blink of an eye). With that being said, I’m a sucker for cute romantic shit, and we’re finally at the part of the story with cute romantic shit. So far the fact that this is an isekai means very little for the plot, and I think this could have been a fine fantasy story all on its own. I don’t really know where this is gonna go since they literally got married…? But I’m interested enough to keep reading, and it seems like Edy is finally going to be a good partner.

I like that they end up getting married in this volume, but I feel like not much has happened elsewhere for their relationship. Despite the other characters being happy for the couple I’m left a bit confused. I don’t understand exactly how much time has passed for their relationship and they haven’t had much interact as adults outside of some tea time, and especially not in this volume.
At this point since I’m halfway through the series, I’m simply reading the last 2 volumes just to say I read the entire thing.

-I thought it was promising.

-I know it's primarily romance but I wanted to see the FL be more motivated and have initiative. Instead she just... waited and waited and waited, doing nothing but fret about her affianced status and the ML. So 2D

-Couldn't she, I don't know, utilized her past life's knowledge and do something with it?

-I got bored after the first two volumes and just stopped when they got married.

-I went and looked for spoilers. I didn't miss anything substantial.

I`ve fallen in love with this manga since the first volume, so I ordered the rest of volumes. I love how fast-paced it is. The story and the art are just so beautiful and gets you hooked. It is based on a novel by Syuri Nakamura, but I haven`t came across it, yet. Can`t wait to read the next volume.

While I loved the two perspectives we got in this volume, i definitely agree with other reviewers that the story has rapidly progressed. They could've expanded the story moreso into a few more volumes than just to 4.

However, i still enjoyed this volume and now am reading volume 3.

Honestly, this is your generic fantasy isekai and they are even aware of it. The heroine talks about how her life is a typical plot and either this or that will happen (which she was semi-right about). Being self-aware is dangerous….

Really liked this volume, the romance was so sweet, but it felt very rushed. The journey with the hero’s party could’ve used at least a whole volume, and although I love Filimena and Edy’s relationship, it could’ve used more development. Still really enjoyed this though!
