The girl... Libby's life is going according to plan. She has one free summer before she starts her new job, which means she has time to do a favor for her best friend, Evan.
The favor... Libby agrees to keep an eye on Evan's grandma until he can find a permanent companion for her. How hard could it be? But this particular grandma is determined to commit the perfect murder.
The match... While Evan and Libby spend the summer protecting the world from Grandma Marcie's murderous plans, they find themselves blurring the fine line of friendship — and there's no going back.
My favorite part of this book was Evan's grandma. She is a hoot! She keeps the younger generation on their toes and they really have a hard time keeping up with her. I will never be able to look at an Emu the same way again. (A comical part of the book.)
This book has a sweet romance. Libby and Evan have a great friendship. The problem that they face is the possibility of it becoming a romantic relationship. They have been "friend-zoned" for so long that they are afraid of messing up their relationship. It takes a smart grandma to stir the pot and get things going.
This is a very cute book that is full of humor and a little bit of romance.
I recently discovered this author and I am so glad I did! Her stories are wonderfully funny and the romance is clean. It’s hard to find such a combination these days. The books are fast-paced with delightful characters and loads of fun to read. I will definitely keep seeking out her work. In this book the grandmother is very funny and she keeps Libby on her toes, wondering if Marcie really is planning to murder someone for “research” on her latest novel. It’s very cleverly written.
Reread 2021 So cute, love it and #grandmagoals #spunkyoldlady
The Perfect Plan by Carina Taylor This book was like a fresh cup of lemonade! The writing is fun, the dialogue is great, the friendly banter is the best (not just the main charcters)! The Grandma is crazy and spunky, which makes this story even more enjoyable! This book has a romance, and it also has more then that. Carina wrote these charcters in a way that they seemed like they could be real people. You can see how family relationships or lack of one affected them personally. The most refreshing part of all was that Libbys charcter didn't change due to curtain events. 💜 For example I have read in the pass where, the guy winks at the girl and she forgets everything and turns into something so different then really is. Don't get me wrong swooning over sweet things is not bad but that's not what I'm talking about here. 💙 Or when the character is like "I'll forgive him because he said he likes me" noooo! Libby stayed true to her character stopped and analyzed things that was so refreshing!!! 💜 This was a five star read and I'm looking forward to reading more about the small town of Colter. 💙 I received a copy of The Perfect Plan by the author, all my thoughts are my own and this is my honest review:)
“...maybe if Marcie had a good cup of coffee for once, she wouldn’t feel like murdering someone.”
I loved this book! I laughed so many times while I was reading it! And I highlighted quite a few quotes that I loved. Marcie is hilarious, and she was always doing something that I didn’t expect, not to mention she seems to be a bit obsessed with committing a murder. And I want to live in a town like Colter that has a dog named Carl who stops unfamiliar cars as the mascot! And then there’s all the flirting and scenes with Evan and Libby! I love them, and I’d recommend this book to anyone who likes cute, clean, and funny romances! I really hope this isn’t the last we see of Marcie and the town of Colter!
Perfect plans are not always that perfect as we thought... - fantastic, romantic comedy
Funny, momentarily very hilarious and very enjoyable read. I spent very good time with the characters from this book I would happily spend some more. Their interactions with each other, great banter and things they did, oh boy! It was quite different to usual stories that base on the trope from friends to lovers. And how all this happened to bring the two to their happily ever after was one of the most interesting way it could happen. This story really immersed me and I was not able to put it down and see what is going to happen next. All the mystery and meddling grandma's ways to bring her family back to her, just perfect. It is also a little bit special in a way the plot is built and structured. We do not have so much interaction between hero and heroine. It's very much slow burn romance but I loved lack of overwhelming angst and drama that often accompany many of the stories we can find on the market. I loved how their perfect plans as you might guess were not that perfect after all, as in life. And I could relate to that. I had some perfect plans in my life as well... I hope there will be more stories coming from this author about Colton and the characters from first book. Great writing and fantastic story, can't recommend enough.
A small-town romantic comedy complete with a crazy grandma! Does it get much better than that? I don’t think so.
There’s even a touch of murder-mystery in there!
The slow-burn romance that forms between Libby and Evan while they are both on an after-college, jumping-into-real-life journey of self-discovery will melt your heart, and their sarcastic banter will make you giggle out loud while you’re reading.
From the first chapter they appear in, I fell in love with the town of Colter and all its quirky residents. They are truly lovable, genuine, and ultra-hilarious—even the non-human ones! And that’s all you’ll get on that—no spoilers!
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to more from this author! It was such a cute story with witty and fun characters, a unique storyline, a plot that makes you keep turning the pages to find out more.
This was a really fun read! I loved the eccentric characters like the grandma and all the towns people. The witty banter between Libby and Evan is great too!
LIbby sure didn't expect Evan's Grandma to be so vital at 80! Why was she needed to keep an eye on her this summer? Pretty sure Marcie could run circles around Libby. Libby spends her days learning about Colter, Oregon and trying to keep Marcie from committing murder. Marcy's plots for her 20+ best sellers are all based on things she has done. Now Marcie's current book is a murder mystery. Add to that general wackiness of the town, and a longing for a more serious relationship with Evan, Libby's summer is packed with new and different life changes...and new friends.
Such a fun book with great characters. I couldn't help snickering and exploding into laughter as I read.
One of my favorite lines (when Libby is stuck on a ladder after rescuing Marcie from her toilet papering caper with a hurt ankle from a mishap with Evan in the yard) Evan asks if she was planning to spend the night up there. "Yes, yes I am. I thought to myself how nice it would be to be stuck on this ladder in my pajamas and bare feet when a bunch of strangers come out of their houses to get their morning newspapers!" She was surprised the sarcasm didn't drip onto his head from this height."
Don't miss this fantastic book! It will definitely change your opinions on 80 year old's and small town living! It was perfect!
I didn't like this book- I LOVED it! Carina Taylor has become one of my favorite authors and she always delivers on her romantic comedies. Her stories are hilarious, yet so believable and are character driven. I love that Libby and Evan are both slow to declare their love for one another, it allowed for so many funny moments. Throw in Marcie, Evan's murder plotting grandma, her Emu, a baby raccoon, friends and a small quirky town full of characters that made me love them! Can't wait for the next book in the series!
I need to start by saying I love this authors work but this book was just not what I expected. I still enjoyed it but it wasn’t really a romcom in my view. Libby and Evan were great characters. I just didn’t really feel chemistry with them. Part of that could have been that they were rarely with each other. It was more a story about Marcie, the grandma and Libby. It was funny and cute just not what I was thinking it would be.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. It wasn’t just a sweet romance, but also a story about friendship and growth. I think Libby’s character had to learn to trust and let other people into her heart before she could really admit her love for Evan. There was also some laugh out loud moments. Great debut novel!
I have not laughed so much while reading a book like I did reading this one. Libby, Evan, Vivian, Marcie, Ellie, Lane, and friends had me in tears. I could not put the book down. Thank you for making me laugh. It's a good thing my bladder is strong😀 Would love for you to write a book with Vivian's happily ever after. Thanks for the laughs!!
Yeah! Now I have to find another 20 words. Although this was a relatively short read, it sure isn’t a trope, and I really liked that the authour thought outside the boring trope type of book. I particularly liked it being clean and fun at the same time.
I had a hard time with Elly at first until I realized we share some less desirable traits. Mostly I kept reading for Marcie and the other townsfolk. The resolution was worth the read and I'm looking forward to the next book.
This book sucked me in from the first page. Carina has a gift for witty banter and zany characters. I’ve purchased every book she’s written so far and I’ve not been disappointed once.
I enjoyed the fresh storyline that other books don't contain. The idea of how the main character becomes part of a small community while learning how to be a different person from the most unlikely person was refreshing.
I was laughing so much while reading this and fell in love with all of the characters. Not just the main characters, the whole town. This could easily be made into a movie that I would go see!
I have loved everything I've read by Carina Taylor. Until this one. Now I didn't hate it, & it sounds like this was her first book - but frankly, I'm really glad this wasn't the first book I read by her, or I probably wouldn't have looked further & then I would have missed out on some awesome books! .
The story is sooo slow to develop, with lots of repetition; and though Taylor's characteristic wit is there, too often it's just trying too hard with little to no payoff.
The theme that grandma is going to kill someone is sometimes treated seriously but mostly as a joke - as a reader, I wasn't sure what exactly the author was trying to do with that, but I certainly never took it seriously.
The story doesn't really feel like it starts till Evan finally gets there. Then it picks up somewhat. The characters are all well developed & likeable. I can see the potential. It just doesn't seem as if it's sure where it's going or particularly committed to getting there.
Carina Taylor is one of my new favorite authors, but I recommend starting with "Neighbors Like That" instead to appreciate her gift - it's funny & swoony, with a little excitement thrown in for good measure.
I wanted to love book as much as I enjoyed her others! It started out with everything that I look for. It was clean, had humor, and the makings of characters I like and can root for. However, it took too long to get to the relationship between the main characters. Also, I felt there was way too much description in a place that doesn’t exist. Had Colter been a real place, I wouldn’t have minded. I live in a small town about an hour a way from Portland and at first thought she was talking about our town or community. After reading a little further I quickly realized she wasn’t and did a google search. There is no such place nor did it seem realistic that such a small town could have so many businesses that can stay open. We have a post office, a cafe that can only stay open half the time, and a gas station. We have about 2,000, so I had a harder time with that than most would. I didn’t finish the book. I just kept waiting for something to happen and yet it rarely gave you even Conversations between the two love interest. I love this author’s other books though!
