A note from Audrey: Some series can be read out of order - this isn’t one of them. Start with Alpha and welcome to Ghost Mountain!

The Ghost Mountain pack has been waiting for their fancy new den building for months, but it won't be the only thing unloading off the trucks.

The coming days will have a lot of surprises - for pot-scrubbing dominants, for betas who weren't expecting to lose their hearing just yet, and for an elder who was present on the day her pack was born and every single day since.

Myrna was ready to stand at the center of her pack's rising. Except that isn't where they need her to be.

The best story I have had the privilege of reading, ever.

There are a million books about shifters. Not one of them comes close to the world expanding, depth plumbing, heights ascending, heart building world that Audrey Faye has created in Ghost Mountain.

This is not a series about macho Alphas and swoony sexy times… this series is about heart, and healing, and lives being rediscovered and rebuilt. Audrey has written a song of hope, and wonder, and absolute unbridled joy. You cannot read these books without laughing out loud, grinning your very largest smile, crying with joy, and absolutely falling in love with the ever-expanding number of souls that make up this wonderful pack.

You cannot hope to start this series at the end, or the middle, or miss a book… you must start right at the beginning, and travel along with these amazing characters from the very first book Alpha… You will then get sucked in and will find yourself cheering these strong men and women on, and offering your very best shoulder leans to those who need a bit of shoring up.

The characters become a part of you… each in their own very distinctive way. And that is one of the reasons why these books, and Audrey Faye, are so very remarkable. Each character is deep, and flawed, and perfect, and growing, and utterly real. You know these people, no matter their personal stories. Strong, cantankerous Myrna, with her giant heart and unbending will to be there for her people. Hayden who knows that the best way to lead a pack, is to let pups cover him with sticky jam fingers. So many others that I daren’t mention else I ruin your wonder and excitement as you watch this story unfold.

As this world builds, you may need a list to keep all the names straight.. but you will know every character, and will treasure them dearly, even those that are just shadows in the trees, or paint on the walls.

I cannot recommend this series highly enough. If you let it, it will change your life, fill you with joy, and give you a whole new perspective to relationships, and how we interact with one another. You never know, it might even make you a better person. Oh.. and it’s a rip-roaring bloody great story as well!!!

"Elder isn’t an age. It’s a role."

And we get to watch as Myrna tries to figure out how she wants to elder with the help of Cleve and other friends, new and old. But elder is only one thread in the story. The new den finally arrives, some secrets are revealed, Myrna's boys keep heading towards home, an unofficial mating ceremony continues to take shape...

As always the point of view changes throughout each chapter, which for me enhances the story. I do occasionally have to flip back a few pages to see who's point of view I'm reading, especially if it's one of the three immigrants. Otherwise the multiple points of view help me feel that reading a Ghost Mountain Shifter story is about catching up with family and old friends, and making new friends.

Which is why I adore this series but also why the author is entirely correct in saying that you should start at the beginning. And why I love it when time permits me to start at Heart and re-read through to the end of the current book. With such a large cast of characters a few sometimes slip through my memory cracks without the whole series re-read.

Elder is another fine installment in the history of Ghost Mountain. Once again I intended to take my time, read slow and savor every word. Fail, instead I galloped through like it was on fire. Oh well that's what rereads are for.

Ghost Mountain continues to be one of my all time favorite series, that I go to when I need a different reality or a positive pickup. So I'm sorry to see it go on hiatus but I also want the author to have the time and atmosphere to give the complex story and large cast of characters the attention they need to shine.

Plus I'm sure I'll fall in love with the trilogy she's working on. Audrey Faye stories are on my auto buy list.

cross-posted goodreads, amazon, bookbub.

I liked this one least in the series. That's not to say that I disliked it, but ... it felt disjointed. I think maybe it was trying to tell too many stories, and so there didn't feel like there was a core. All of these books are basically chapters of an overall story, and I'm good with that. But the rest of them felt like there was a core to their "chapter" where this one didn't.

There was also something rubbing me the wrong way about the way some of the characters felt it was their place to make really presumptuous decisions impacting lots of people with no discussion. I know that's always gone on to some degree in the series - they love each other, and so they meddle. But this one felt like it was a lot more than that, and ... I don't know. Several things didn't sit well with me.

And I'm just never going to be comfortable with how this series seems to empower the strong female characters by utterly sidelining and making irrelevant the strong male characters. I don't think that's really the kind of empowerment I'm rooting for. It's laughable, after 7 books, how much they are utterly not allowed to even know what is going on, much less participate in the decisions, discussions, and planning. All while they pat themselves on the back about how much they are all about everyone belonging. SMDH.

I think I need a break. Which is good, because this is the last one out anyway.

I'll read on - I adore the world and characters. But stuff was starting to grate, so it is a good time for a break.

Yeah, this one is definitely my least favorite. I wondered if, the first time around, it was a product of binging the whole series, but no. Myrna, in particular, rubs me the wrong way - the high-handed way she acts, as if everyone else is just a piece on her playing board...it is too much. This wasn't about encouraging people, or empowering people. It was about her deciding how she wanted things to be, and forming a clique to help her pull strings and manipulate until it happens. It's gross, generally sexist, and I'm not a fan.

Fortunately I've already read Sentinel and so I know it leaves all that bullcrap behind.

I've enjoyed this series. It is different than the usual werewolf romance. If you are looking for a series that revolves around lots of hot sex, keep looking. There is romance in this series, but what the series is about is pack, specifically one particular pack that endured years under an abusive Alpha. It tells the reader how the damaged members of that pack heal and grow strong again. It is a long process with no easy magical fixes. Well, maybe some magical fixes, but they aren't the wave-a-wand-and-be-healed type. Loved seeing Cleve come back, and can't wait to learn more about Milo and Xander.

This series makes me wish I could crawl into the book and share the fierce love, loyalty, and friendship the characters share. This installment centers on the elders, Myrna and Cleve in particular, who are trying to decide and embrace their place and purpose in the pack. I like how the author switches points of view rather than centering on one or two main characters. I think this enhances the feeling of immersion in the story. It's fairly easy to follow though occasionally I find myself turning back to see who's point of view I'm reading. Redemption and appreciation of healing and material gains of the pack are strong themes in this story also. Be sure and start with the first book, Alpha, to get all the characters straight with their back stories if you haven't read any of this series. It's well worth the time!

This one is another good addition to the series. The pack continues to build their den, but more and more people are being moved into honored positions. It's fun to see when they realize what is happening and then how they embrace those new roles. I also love seeing more of the pack come home/get their heads out of their asses/visit the den more often. So many outliers in this pack and each of them being welcomed in their own way.

Wow!!!!!!!

This has been my favourite book of the series so far. It leads you on a rollercoaster of emotions as some of the lost wolves start to find their way home. The book is fast moving between characters and sometimes takes a page or two to find where you are within the stories as the POV changes. It made me cry as the heartfelt story progressed. The characters feel real and it's so well written you can feel their struggles. A note by the author at the end means a break in the series unfortunately . I will eagerly look out for further books in the future, just wish they would be sooner

ELDER was sweet and emotion-driven, which was exactly what I expected. It was my least favorite in the series so far, though. There were many little moments of character development and movement forward in the story in terms of the series as a whole, but no real plot as such in this book specifically. I also wish there was a character list or pack chart, since there are SO many characters it is sometimes hard to keep them straight. I did tear up (of course) near the end with Myrna and Xander and will read the next one when it is released and I need a jolt of sweetness.

Elder - Myrna's story
Myrna is the daughter of the founding Alpha of the Ghost Mountain Pack. He and a few families built a small pack that was open and progressive. When Aaron and Tera took over, they welcomed single moms, on of there own with a toddler cub, a Raven and even a human. Then Samuel destroyed it all. Myrna was an Elder, who stood defiant. Protected her home and pack the best she could.
Her Pack is healing, but they still have a long way to go.
Eady, Hayden's Grams, Adrianna's mom, comes to Ghost Mountain, along with the new Den along with is little sister Jules. She wants to better know the members of her grandson's pack. Spoil her great-grand pups.
Myrna is trying to find her place in the Pack. She helps where ever she needs but no longer has a true purpose. Eady is helping her find what kind of Elder she is going to be. Cleve is right along with her.
Her lost sons are on the way home. Kendra and her Hawks are keeping an eye on them. Kendra making contact and leaving them items that smell of pack and home. Myrna is terrified that they may be to far gone to rejoin.
Ronan's older adopted cubs/pups are going to the community college, and Myrna has found a new purpose. She is going to be the Elder that there young come and go and give them a strong piece of Pack to hold on to. Cleve is grandfather, and maker of the muffins.
Great series. not a stand alone, needs to be read in order.

Elder is the seventh book in Ghost Mountain Wolf Shifter series by Audrey Faye.

Myrna deserved a dedicated space many novels ago. That Faye waited until an appropriate time as to facilitate not only her change, but her sons journey home was perfection. (This book has not received the final star Bc they did not make it to ghost mountain by the end and I’m feeling petty.)

Elder is an apt title. Many visiting from Whistler; as well as ravens, hawks, cats, and a few extra bears sprinkled in. Then there’s the evolution and solidifying of solidarity amongst Ghost Mountain’s very own elder pool. Where they individually and unitedly came into their power and place. So many fierce and brave and hurting wolves who stepped up to bring the stragglers home. A staggering amount of which, that are their own children lost to past trauma and fierce darkness residing within.

I drank up the moments we spent in Xander and Milo’s company. In Damien and Evans steps back into pack. In the minute and terrifyingly large leaps that some ghosts traveled in these pages. And the walls that have finally settled into their new land, strengthening ever growing bonds.

This stream of consciousness series just keeps me coming back for more. It's been so long since I read a book that wasn't classified as a romance, but I'm so glad I branched out to this series. I love it just as much now as the first book.

This book focuses more on Myrna's story and her place in the pack. She's one of the pack elders - her father is the one who started the pack all those years ago. She's struggling to figure out exactly where she fits now that they aren't struggling to survive under a sadistic alpha. And we get the start of the journey her two broken sons have towards coming back home.

There are a lot of characters in this series, and sometimes they can be a little hard to keep track of, especially since the "voice" of each chapter doesn't really change regardless of the narrator. But I love them all anyway. It evokes such a sense of family and pack (duh) and belonging and finding your place. It's such a comfort, the perfect cozy read.

I'm looking forward to what lies next in the series - babies and shadows coming home.

I got my review copy of this book on a Sunday, which I'm sure the author does on purpose so we can spend the whole afternoon with the book. As usual, I read the latest Ghost Mountain Shifter story in one sitting.

Elder seems like it should mostly be about Myrna, and it is, but it's about them all - Cleve, Tara, even Eady (Hayden's grandmother). It's about learning more and more about some of the "ghost" pack members, learning to let go, coming home, and all of those things at once sometimes.

This series really should be read in order, and even then, it's a bit hard to keep all the ancillary characters straight. Maybe a bit easier if you read them all in a row. I am still longing for some kind of pack "family tree" to keep everyone straight. It's definitely NOT an editing problem, it's just that there are so many characters, and they each have a part to play.

We were told that there will definitely be more books, and I already can't wait.

DNF at 40%

After taking a long break from this series due to a couple of underwhelming installments, I wanted to give it another go. Unfortunately, as much as I’m interested in learning more about Myrna, I’m beyond bored. There’s no interiority and not even much of an external plot so there’s nothing driving the story forward. It’s too slice of life about building the Pack’s home and throwing pinecones at each other. And well, it’s just not that interesting to keep me going. It doesn't help that there are multiple POVs and they all sound the exact same. However, I still recommend the early books in the series for their depiction of healing from trauma.

Content notes: past abuse by former alpha for the whole pack (physical, emotional, verbal, financial), pregnant secondary characters, past death of loved ones, ableist language

Myrna finds a new place?

Ugh. This book is titularly my about Myrna, but it's also about Xander and Cleve and Damien. There are too many points of view, and too much meandering. Too much "very". I'd be hard pressed to pull a cohesive plot out of this slice of life of the Ghost Mountain pack.

It suffered from me disagreeing with the author about what people's emotions should be, my questions about what dominance is and why it matters (in the wild, the alpha is dominant and the rest submissive), and my struggle with the psychic nature of wolves.

It's nice to see Cleve, Damien and Ethan doing better. Myrna's role in the pack had to change in detail, but the idea that she's somehow changed or grown as a person in this book doesn't resonate with me. I hope the author taking a break from this series will allow her to be more focused for the next book.

Soul touching

I wait impatiently all year for the next book each time I finish one. Audrey Faye has written the most unique and heartfelt were-shifter book I have had the pleasure of reading. The time spent building each character and twisting them into a healing and delicate pack takes my breath away. The writing about overcoming the varying forms of abuse that each pack mate has suffered from pup all the way to the dominants, takes a special amount of care and thought to do justice to each of their stories. Audrey Faye delivers every single chapter, with thoughtful insight into the hearts and souls of each packmate of the ghost mountain pack.Truly a beautiful book series.

The description of relationships and feelings is obviously an important part of these books, but at times the ultra sweet cosiness just becomes overwhelming.
Part of the problem is there isn't a strong main story, it's really a collection of many tiny incidents and conversations that can be interesting, but just take so long to get anywhere. In fact this is what's wrong with the series, it just moves too slowly.
I have a fondness for many of the characters, especially Kelsey, but maybe familiarity is getting to me, as I found this a struggle to finish. I gave the first book in this series five stars, but I have finally reached a point where I can only give two.

OMG I'm so hooked on this series. In the first book I wasn't sure I'm gonna be this interested in this type of books cause it was so different to the other shifter ones I read. This story like in all the ones that preceded it has so much depth to it. I read the whole series in a week and now I'm a walking zombie. I'm so sad that we're gonna have to wait for the next book but I understand that good things need time. This author is so good at capturing the reader and let them live through her characters emotions. God I cried and I laughed and felt all the emotions these characters felt. I can't wait for the next book to he releases and I hope it won't be too long

Another fluff-with-depth installment of this lovely series. Not a standalone.

Recommended if you'd like a series with 1% hurt, 99% comfort ... building family and relationships, PTSD-rep, relearning to trust, respect and grow. Plus various animal-shifter shenanigans (centred around wolves, but not exclusively that dynamic).

I do feel like there's implications I'm missing sometimes, there are a number of asides like "of course he understood why she felt that way," where I thought 'he might, I don't'. But that's fine in context, as long as the characters know what they're doing, I'm happy to be along for the ride.

I really did enjoy this one, but I'm getting a little miffed. These books are constantly changing point of view. We get to see tiny events in great detail, sometimes to the point of becoming a slog. Pages are spent on everybody watching everybody else. So then why, I ask, do we not only see one of the events we are all working towards from the viewpoint of someone else, but we don't even get to see it in real time? Finally, we see the start of Damien's redemption, but not from Damien's eyes, and all told from a memory. And this is not the first time. In one of the earlier books, we also skip over an important event. Why? We spend so much time on everything else!

Honestly the first four books in series great- the last three only ok

The first 4 books in this series are great, the last three are only ok. Too many changes in the point of view and not enough resolution even within the current story.

The elder in this book doesn’t get enough pages to truly finish out her chapter of the story - I mean her kids don’t even make it home yet.

Anyways- I will continue to read the series for now, but more things need to happen and it needs way more focus.

Stream of consciousness writing style.

Book's primary focus was on Myrna and how the role of Elder in the pack needed to change for her to really fit in and grow herself. Also central to the story was Cleve's changing fit in the pack. Overall, probably my least favorite book so far in the series - still a 4 star. It followed the same process as previous books where each chapter was the voice of a different character - you need to pay close attention to that or you will be lost! It seemed more disjointed than other books for some reason. You do get some character growth - mostly with Myrna, Cleve, and the "lost boys" though.

Audrey Faye Never Disappoints!

The next installment of the Ghost Mountain Series made me laugh over and over. The antics of the cubs and the way the pack buys in to fun is so great! As always, Audrey's emotional I.Q. comes through so strongly, and really makes me think.

I would definitely recommend this book to anybody who wants their books to make them feel happy and uplifted!

I can't wait for the next installment!

I can't get enough of this series. 10/10

Honestly, this series has made me fall in love with each and every character. It's just so thoroughly written and so many details are given to each character, that they just come alive. I'm slightly frustrated that she won't be writing more on this series for awhile. But I know that when she eventually decides to pick it back up again it will be worth the wait!

Loved this

I adore these books. There is something quiet and peaceful, deep and moving about them that gets to me everytime, and takes me to a place that soothes, even as you ache for the pain, desolation, anger and fear, and rejoice at the bright, simple happiness at obstacles and pain overcome.

Reads equally well as a standalone or as a part of the series.

Thoroughly recommend.

Waiting to see where the series goes.

I loved another series by this author under another name and I love this series as well.

The end of this journey filled me with joy and hope. I will be waiting to see where the next chapter of this pack leads and waiting to follow where it leads.

No bangs, no sex, except loving couples with leaves in their hair and laughing kids. There is trauma and tears but they are hints not up in your face visuals.

Start at the beginning.

Another Good One!!

I can hardly wait for a new book on the Ghost Mountain Shifters. I'm really sad I will have to wait longer for Book 8. I can't wait for Myrna's sons to come home and a new baby raven. This is a world I wish we could all live in. I know it is a fantasy world since there are just too many people in it who are so kind and caring. It makes me cry a lot but it is good crying.

Love, love, love

A book that will take you on so many emotional journeys. Good for the soul. I can’t believe I have to wait for more! I was deep into the 7th book and was caught by surprise when I realized I had just read the last word. A wonderful community that I wish I could live in, hahaha. I’m off to hunt for something else good to read that can sustain me until #8! You won’t be disappointed!

Transitional book

In this one I feel we are moving from one chapter of the Ghost Mountain story to the next.

This story revolves around the building of the new den and the transitions this puts in place, particularly amongst the elders in the pack.

Honestly this one is a little slow. I kept waiting for something big to happen, but suspect that’s coming in the next book now. Overall still a great story with characters I love.

This is such a perfect series!

Beautiful written, positive and heartfelt. I enjoy every single book in this series. THE ONLY THING is do not start with this book, this series is best read as a series as there are so many characters, it will be hard to follow along if you have not read the books before it.
